Miguel showed up on time for the estimate and the work. It was less than 24 hours from the time I called until I had the complete written estimate and an installation date. I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and price for the job. I actually selected and purchased the materials myself. The job took approximately 2.5 days. Miguel and his son are very hard workers and their work is of very high quality. They did an excellent job with the installation and clean up afterwards. I highly recommend this company. and plan on using them in the future for other jobs.
Description of Work: I had the master bedroom carpet replaced with tile. The area was approx 600 SF.

Bottom line, I think he lied to me on the estimates and the quantity of tile required. I originally thought he was going to do reasonable quality work, but that is not what happened.
Description of Work: I hired Penate Tile Marble and Wood Floors to install rectified porcelain in my house four years ago. He estimated how much square footage that we needed and said he would do the project for us. My husband put in a buffer before the project started. He then said that we needed more tile. I went to the store and bought more for him to use. Throughout the project he kept telling me that I needed more tile. I would go out and purchase the tile when needed. He also contracted a worker to help him with the project. The worker had been working in one of the bedrooms under no supervision. I had left for a while and came back to find that one of the bedroom doors was closed. I stepped into the room and smelled liquor on the worker. Months later I discovered that liquor I had stored in a closet during the project had been filled with water. After the work was done, Penate had notified me that he was moving out of the area. I kept an eye on the tile and two weeks later it had shifted. The extra tile that we had purchased was claimed to be used but I do not know where it went. I decided to get the tile fixed and once again got Penate's name. I called him in early February 2012 and set up an appointment. He never showed twice for separate appointments that had been made.

Spoke with Miguel initially and he was supposed to call on the weekend to come look at the job. When he hadn't called a week later, I called back and he again said he would come by on the weekend. Never heard from him and gave up.

Miguel Penate has done a couple of good sized projects for me. The quality of work is very good. The first project was installing tile in two showers which included ceramic tile, glass tile, and metal trim along with glass corner shelves. The results were very good. So, I contacted him to do a larger project for me in another condo that I bought - a complete remodel - floor tile with tile baseboards & sound proofing membrane and two complete bathroom remodels. Miguel and his co-workers are hard workers and put in a full day's work on the days that they are here. They take pride in their work and they have the skills and experience to deliver very good to excellent work. Another floor tile installer had installed tile in my first condo and the installation was a B+ ... I had Miguel install floor tile in my second condo with the same tile as the first and his work was a solid A ... better than the other tile installer. The tile installed was 24"x24" rectified porcelain tile installed like marble with 1/16" grout lines. Miguel quoted me prices that were reasonable and came in either close to or on the quoted price. If there were any issues along the way (as there is with any large remodel project), Miguel fixed them right away. He is a contractor that you can work with and you will be pleased with the results. The bottom line is, would I contact Miguel again for another project? The answer is 'yes'. I will recommend him to my friends and neighbors. If you are looking for quality floor and bathroom tile installation, then you should give him a call.
Description of Work: Installed ceramic & glass tile and metal trim in two bathroom showers. Installed ceramic tile on wall under bar top. Completely remodeled two bathrooms (porcelain floor, tile in tub surround, shower tile, new tub, tub to walk-in shower conversion, new vanities, sinks, faucets, and toilets, some plumbing rough-in changes and minor electrical). Installed 24"x24" rectified polished porcelain flooring in diamond pattern (laid level with 1/16" grout lines like marble) with Pro-Flex membrane and tile baseboard.

He helped me so much. I really needed someone to come and do this job after the other company completely ruined my tiling. He finished the job and did what he had to do for me. I am so appreciative that he was able to help me. What a professional, hard working man, who went 200% out of his way for me.

Overall...I did not go with Penante, I really wish I had because Penny Pare from A-1 Inside and Out came out cheaper but did a horrible job!
Description of Work: I had wanted the flooring part done, taking up laminate & putting down tile. For that work and a few little items the price was very good, but I asked if he did painting & he said yes, or that him & someone else would probably do it. When they came for the paint estimate it was just as much as the flooring job, and the flooring was the whole 2 bdrm, 2 ba condo. I was buying all the supplies for everything. I would have liked him to do the job but in the meantime I found someone, a woman contractor Penny Pare from A-1 Inside and Out that would need 2 guys for a couple of days and she came in $2,000 less than his whole estimate for all her work, painting, putting two commodes in, removing all base boards, putting down the new base boards and the putting in of tile. In these economic times, they both knew I had saved up, I am unemployed, divorced late 2010 and had to move somewhere decent after selling the other home. I had references on the other woman contractor and was told of her work & price, of which I will write a report when she does the job...I have to still get the supplies. I should have gone with Penate Tile, they came to my house fast, gave a good floor estimate but the paint job was a little high. I made a mistake not having them do the work.

I ended up not using Penate Tile Marble & Wood Floor Installation Company because I thought that the person who came out was horrible. He was so unprofessional that he came to my house and took wood samples from me saying that he wanted to match it and he never returned it back to me. He never got back to me with a quote either. I think that he was terrible. I would absolutely not contact them in future.

It went very well. See above.
Description of Work: There were two parts to the job. 1/ Miguel and his two employees leveled and tiled a 1955 patio that I chose to restore rather than demolish. Some minor repair to a low decorative concrete perimeter patio wall was also involved. Porcelain tile with a stone face was laid over the old concrete patio slab. The slab was "contoured" a bit so that it drained away from the house 2/ The second part of the job was to add a terrace outside the perimeter wall but adjoining the patio. This involved laying tumbled marble pavers in sand, which required some extra thought and work to do it right. On this and previous jobs Miguel has always made that extra effort rather than slap something down and run. (He also advised me on what size marble pavers would best match the patio tile.) On this job he was concerned with a slightly higher grade in the yard area around the new marble terrace that could possible cause it to flood if run-off draineded towards it, and so he graded and then formed a small trench around the terrace perimeter and filled it will attractive pebbles. This will handle any run-off. We can plant in this drainage area to maker it more attractive if we choose, though it doesn't look bad as is.

I selected this company based on the positive reports posted on Angie's List. Miguel Penate lived up to these accolades and more. First, his price was very reasonable. Second, this was seriously quality work. Miguel is a perfectionist- he is detail oriented. The job took about a week & a half and was done methodically. All debris was removed on an ongoing basis which made the house habitable while the work was done. Miguel and his crew were always punctual and stayed till the day's goal was accomplished. If you are looking for an honest, hard working and meticulous person to install your tile, this is the man you want! I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome and would recommend him in a heartbeat. I will be using him to remodel my bathroom.

The finished job is beautiful. Miguel takes pride in this work. His employees Frankie and Jorge are also capable fellows. Miguel has since done a bathroom for me and, again, he was tenacious until it was done right. He is coming again soon to do my second bath. The bottom line is that Miguel has integrity and that is so hard to find. I trust him. A word of advice to readers planning to buy tile: You need to become an informed consumer. Go on-line and learn enough to choose a quality tile. Research the tile manufactuer and the tile you are considering. There are industry specifications as to permeability, hardness, and the like. This affects how it will wear. If you can't find the specs on a tile, or even who the manufactuer is - don't buy it. Don't just go into a showroom and be sold something. If you buy a tile that is not properly manufactured - that is not flat, for example, and this is not uncommon with tiles made in certain countries - then your installer could run into problems, and a tile that is not flat may crack over time. Miguel did not choose my tile for me, but he did suggest a couple brands. I asked him to guide me a little so I didn't buy the wrong tile, then I researched and decided on one, and it should wear well and maintain its beauty for a very long time.
Description of Work: Installed 24" by 24" rectified polished porcelain tile throughout my entire house in the "diamond" configuration and with a 1/16" grout line. Many less talented guys could not have done this job, because with a narrow grout line - a very sharp look - there is little room for error on the part of the installer. Plus, Miguel had to work in what were some tight spaces for this size tile and grout line, making the job more challenging.

We could not have been more pleased with the job performed. He and his crew worked long days to get the job done in the time frame required (custom closets were being installed and the tile had to be done before that could be done). All work was performed professionally and they cleaned up after themselves. We have already asked him do tile our master bath when that project is ready to be done and would recommend him to anybody without hesitation.
Description of Work: Miguel and his team tiled our master bedroom, closet, hallway, and dining room with tile that we had already purchased. He had to level the floor in the home (not an easy task) with the appropriate bonding agents and mudding. He performed very well in placing the tile to give the room a very eye-appealing look, lines were straight, and grout lines are hardly visible.

Miguel showed up when he said he would to give a quote. He did a thorough inspection and worked up a very reasonable quote on the spot. We settled on a day he could start the job and he showed up on time ready to go. He and his workers did an excellent job- straight lines- level tiles and completed it in good time. I had different tiles for the bathroom and asked him to cut it on the diagonal and he did a fantastic job. It looked great! He also removed the old toilet and installed a new one for me for an additional charge and did a great job on that as well. He is a very easy going hard working guy that is very professional and has a very good work ethic. I would highly recommend him (actually already have to a friend of mine) and will call on him again when we are ready for to put some wood floors down as he also does those as well.

It went very well. Miguel picked up my initial call and came when scheduled to measure and provide a quote. During that visit he spent the time to discuss various options for threshold work given that the tile being installed required some sort of transition to other rooms' existing tile. A few weeks later, once I had ordered the tile and was ready for its installation, Miguel came on the date discussed (unfortunately the tile delivery was late) and he used the time to prep the floor. Each day thereafter, he and/or his assistant, Frankie, came each day when expected (on one day a personal but very justifiable issue prevented Miguel from coming, but there was no appreciable delay caused by this). Both Miguel and Frankie worked very diligently and with great attention to detail. With a bit of creativity on my part, I designed some custom cut work and a unique foyer design element. Miguel executed these perfectly (although there was an additional but reasonable charge for this).
Description of Work: Porcelain tile (18" x 18") installation in living and dining rooms, kitchen and hallway. Approximately 460 square feet. Because the bond of previously installed tile to the concrete slab had failed, I had already removed prior tile. However, floor was prepped with bonding agent and etched for proper adhesion of new tile by Miguel and he guaranteed the new tile would not lose its bond. Following my design, Miguel did beautiful custom cut work in the foyer area and for transitions in thresholds/doorways between areas where tile was being installed and rooms with different tile already in place. Thereafter, the tile was grouted. Miguel's price included thin set and grout materials.

We found Miguel Penate on Angie's List and took a chance by calling him - our first time using the List. Miguel came the next day and gave us an estimate on our family room - a large space with a horrible rug. For $1,400, Miguel said that they would tear up the existing rug and put down the tile that we had chosen - it seemed too good to be true, but we went for it. Miguel told us exactly what we needed to buy from tile, to thin set to grout. A few days later, he went to the tile store and picked up everything and within three days, we had a brand new floor. Miguel and his assistant were immaculately clean - they left my house and garage looking better than when they came. The work was flawless - and they even did little extras like securing a loose step and adding tile where it had not been, just because it would look better in the end. Before he left, I had Miguel measure four of my bedrooms so he can do those next!

The chattahoochee had been installed back in the 80's and although very old, it was also well stuck to the ground. When Miguel finished removing the old stuff, we realized it had been about one inch deep. He installed the ceramic tiles in several days, since he had to constantly check the weather report for rain. He and his assistant were very neat and meticulous in preparing the area, keeping it clean from falling leaves, debris, even using a industrial strength vacuum cleaner, before and during the install. They even trimmed some of the plants around the area to insure a clean and tidy area and left me with a gorgeous backyard and entrance. You can tell by the wonderful results, that Miguel and his crew take great pride in the work they do. He was always punctual and kept us informed of what was going on. He's easy to talk to and flexible to work with. I'm having Miguel come back, as soon as he has an opening to do our balconies, too.

Miguel Penate's workmanship is excellent, high quality. He takes pride in his work, and used quality materials for the job which is hard to find these days. Prior to selecting Miguel, we had numerous tilers come to my home and check out the situation and give me estimates. Not one was able to satisfy my requirements as far as price, quality and the type of materials they would use to install the tiles. Almost every tiler that came to my home to give me an estimate raised RED FLAGS for one reason or another and was one disappointment after another until we found Miguel Penate. As a matter of fact, one tiler was set to do this job for me and cancelled 2 days before he was to start. In the end that was the best cancellation that ever took place. Took 6 months to find Miguel and it was well worth the wait. He was extremely attentive to me, always arrived on time and was very personable. He communicated any issues and always had a resolution. I would recommend Miguel Penate in a heartbeat!!
Description of Work: Miguel and one assistant removed approx. 400 sq. ft. old tiling, removed all old material on floor under tiles and installed new porcelain Italian tiles on the diagonal. They completed this job in 3 days. They had to use lots of muscle and machinery to rip up the old tile. After the removal of the tiles, the concrete floor was so uneven, but Miguel was able to resolve this issue as well. They came on time everyday and worked until 6pm or so with only a lunch break. They protected the other areas in the home so no damage would occur from the removal of the old tile. They hauled away all old tiling and debris from my home. The clean-up at the end of the job was amazing as well. They hosed down my entire back patio where most of the cutting took place. After they left, you would never know that so much activity took place. I was very happy with the outcome in every aspect. Miguel took on a very difficult job and passed with flying colors.
