Outdoor Gardens Inc. was over 1 hour late for an appointment (the first of their day due to "traffic"). I called them to consult after changing 3 bulbs and having success with all except 1. The Architect/consultant did not remove his sunglasses on this rainy day for the entire meeting. He mentioned several times that he thought the system was bigger and was looking for additional fixtures in the shrubs (expressing disappointment with the limited scope of work). He dug the dirt from around the transformer and said that was the cause of my problem; that it should not be on the ground. The transformer had been successfully supporting the 4 of 5 fixtures the night before. Architect Percy quoted $845 to refurbish 5 small fixtures on a 300 v. transformer. Of this quote $300 is the transformer. Research online indicates that cost of a new 300v transformer is $89. Regarding expertise, I inquired about expanding system to the other side of the driveway and side yard. He recommended digging up a portion of my driveway to run low voltage cable under it. I said, "Wouldn't it just be easier to install a second [$89] transformer there (where the house/electricity is) since this transformer is at capacity with the 5 fixtures anyway?" He said, "Yes, you could do that too." That night, upon darkness and timer clicking on I noticed that now none of my lights are working. I promptly called and left a message for suggestions to get the system back to original functioning before the consultation. They did not return my call. When I called again, they said they could not help me. I checked the outlet and transformer myself then and found that the gasket to keep the transformer watertight had been removed, torn and discarded in my bush and that the switch was in the off position. Unfortunately turning it on did not restore my lights. This vendor was late, ridiculously over-priced, lacked expertise/logic in approach, and takes no responsibility for dismantling my system during troubleshooting nor offers suggestion to reconnect after he dug around it, turned it off, removed the gasket and unknown other tasks which render my system now inoperable.
Description of Work: Outdoor Gardens Inc. came to my home to provide tuning of landscape system they had installed. I suggested checking the connections to troubleshoot why 1 bulb/fixture of 5 was not working. I expected that a connection was loose or wire frayed. I also wanted to explore expanding the system.
