Description of Work: The owner did come out to obtain measurements for estimate for kitchen remodel and stated he would be able to give me the estimate in 3-4 days. On day 5, I called him and he stated he was "working on it". I never heard back. If someone does not want the job, at the very least they should let you know that. It is extremely unprofessional. This was only one of two jobs I have planned.

+ 3 moreThis is the second time i have called on Matt and the second positive review I have written. I would not have done so if I was not completely satisfied. Much of the work was done in a concentrated period of time (over about a month, I think); Matt was also able to be flexible and work around both of our busy schedules. Jason (who works with Matt) did a lot of the work and is awesome also. I left all the purchasing of supplies to Matt and have no complaints at all. He makes good decisions. That's what I needed - someone who could take the ball (i.e. make sense of all my crazy ideas and requests) and run with it. He did. I appreciated all of his suggestions. Matt and Jason are totally honest and trustworthy. I have no hesitation in recommending them.
Description of Work: Laundry room remodel, emptied/refilled water heater several times during the process, creatively dealt with interior security issues, installed new door knobs/locks, installed new front door, installed all new baseboards on first floor, patched where old light fixtures were and painted, stained portions of kitchen cabinets, fixed gate locks, made it easier to lock patio doors, created new closets with bi-fold doors and installed tons of adjustable shelving, caulked leaking windows, installed water pipes through the garage attic from side to front of house to make watering the plants easier, fixed lots of cosmetic issues inside, tweaked toilet installation that flooring guys didn't get just right when they replaced the floor, removed a broken light bulb that was stuck in the ceiling fixture….lots of things!

+ 0 moreI called Matt on Monday 10/14/2013 and explained that I found him on Angie's List and wanted him to give me an estimate on replacing a floor in a bathroom and possibly some other work. He took down two phone numbers for me and said he would get with me later in the day. I waited for his phone call and was never called. Today, 10/16/13, I called Matt back and he said that he was driving the other day when I called and he lost the piece of paper with my phone numbers. Matt stated that he was on his way to Largo and would call me on his way back so he could stop by and give me an estimate. Guess what- no response again as I waited for his phone call.
Description of Work: Absolutely nothing. No response, no phone call, don't care!

Apparently, door installation companies aren't too keen on installing 3rd party doors and will only install the ones they sell (lesson learned). Matt was extremely prompt, courteous and professional. I absolutely recommend them!

Description of Work: Sequoia Builders remodeled an area in our Great Room in order to accommodate a new large flat screen tv. Description of Work: We had a few rooms painted and granite tiles laid in the kitchen as well as having a sticky sliding door fixed. Matt came and gave us a "guesstimate" of how much it would cost and he stayed in that parameter. He was punctual even though he had to travel more than an hour to see us. The whole job took 4 days and it seems as though Matt's worker, Jason did most of the painting and cleanup. He was very good and worked very diligently and left the place completely clean and tidy . Matt picked up some of the materials for us at our local Home Depot. In Summary, we received more than we expected, and received a call from Matt a few days later to make sure that we were happy with everything . . . and of course we were. We would be only too happy to use Matt and Jason's services again, should the occasion arrive, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone . . . it was a stressful time for us as we were in the process of moving from one Condo to another, and they made our move quicker and easier Kudos to Sequoia Builder's Group. and thanks to Matt and Jason from Donald and Gerry ! ! !

+ 2 moreSequoia Builders--Matt was responsive from the first phone call. He provided an estimate and scheduled work the next week. In the process of repairing the known termite damage, he discovered additional damage in an additional room and closet. As part of the repair, we replaced a window. Matt took care of everything. He was prompt, professional and courteous. In fact, he did such a great job on this project, we have since used him on 2 additional projects: replacing interior doors and trim throughout our home, replacing bifold closet doors with french style closet doors. We plan on having Matt do additional work on our laundry room remodel. I highly recommend Matt for any home improvement project.
Description of Work: Repaired termite damage inside walls in 2 rooms. Removed sheetrock, replaced framing as required, replaced sheetrock, texturized walls in prep for painting.

I had a room enclosed to create an office and crown molding and painting done in the rest of the house. I could not be more pleased.The job was not a hard job and could have been done by lots of people but I wanted no hassles. They worked hard, cleaned up each day and were responsive to questions. I would definitely use them again. They were not the cheapest quote that I received but I paid for great quality of work and don't regret it. Matt is a true craftsman that takes great pride in his work and it shows.

+ 1 moreMatthew was professional and honest. He rearranged his busy schedule to come to my home because the issue I needed addressed was a likely water leak, albeit a small leak. He saw the small amount of liquid oozing from beneath the granite backsplash where it meets the granite countertop, and said it was not anything of concern. We are new owners of the home, and he said that the substance was most likely baby oil that the prior owner had spilled and it was slowly oozing back out, or it was the oil in the sealant that was used to attach the granite backsplash to the granite countertop. This was a relief to me and explained why I couldn't find any evidence of water leaks or damage underneath the vanity. I was afraid a contractor would have to rip out the vanity and granite countertop to be able to assess where the water was coming from.

+ 3 moreI contacted Matt based on his Angie's list reviews. After our initial discussion he stayed in contact with me until I could arrange a start date that suited my variable schedule. He and his helper worked three long days on this project. They were prompt, courteous, kind and most of all, professional. They describe themselves as craftsmen and that's how I see them as well. They made suggestions that improved the project significantly. For example, instead of just building a plain wall they suggested building in several niches. Great idea! This new section of wall is now a feature in the room. No one can tell which floor tiles are new and which are the original ones. The new grout matches the original grout perfectly. Finally, they cleaned up after themselves! They worked hard to leave the house and work area (garage/driveway) as they found them.
Description of Work: Work involved taking out 3 massive built-in wood cabinets (corner entertainment center, room divider/wet bar, corner desk and shelves). Once these were removed the ceramic tile floor had to be repaired and rebuilt and a section of wall that contained plumbing had to be extended. Lots of patching of walls was required and texturing was done to prepare them for repainting. I have chosen to delay repainting until I can decide on the right colors but would have no hesitation to contact Matt again for this or any home project.

+ 2 moreIt went very well. The whole job took about five days. They were very neat and clean and they picked up after themselves. The man who owns the company, Matt Christian, is very professional and very nice. He had all his receipts for supplies so he didn’t just say, “all the supplies cost x amount of dollars.” He kept an accurate record of the hours he worked because he did this job on an hourly basis. He did a fantastic job removing the wallpaper; no one had ever painted under the wallpaper so it was a nasty job. I think his prices were quite competitive. He charged me $35 per hour and he worked every hour he was there. He’s a general contractor and not just a guy who does a few jobs on the side. He either answered the phone when I called him or he called me right back. The quality is very nice; everything is plumb and it is finished off nicely. It was a positive experience; I would use him again.
Description of Work: I used Sequoia Builders Group to remodel my condominium. He did a bedroom closet and some smaller projects. He resurfaced the walls and removed wallpaper.

+ -1 moreI called Matt the beginning of June and he came and gave me an estimate. He was punctual, explained what he needed to do, and really seems to know what he's doing. I had to call him a couple weeks later to schedule a time for the repairs due to my unpredictable work schedule. He stated that he had a 2 week job but would call me at the end of the week and let me know when he thought he would be finished. I waited a week and a half and called him back. He said he would be done by the end of the week and would call me then. Again, he never called. I decided to try one more time (and give him the benefit of the doubt) almost 2 weeks later. By this point it was the middle of July. He told me he'd call me right back, which he did. He then explained that he wouldn't be able to do the job because of the risk of mold and he didn't have the experience to get rid of spores properly. I was incredibly frustrated and have no desire to ever use him again. 1. He was not upfront from the beginning. 2. He kept putting me off instead of telling me the work couldn't be done so that I could work on finding someone else. 3. He did apologize for not telling me sooner but regardless, not telling me was poor business period.I think Matt really knows what he's doing and I have a lot of work that will need to be done over the next couple years. Had he been honest from the start I would have used him for some other things I need done and just gotten someone else to fix the drywall. Now I'm back at square one1 1/2 months later.
Description of Work: I spent awhile searching Angies list for a good handyman who could do some drywall repair on a patch off wall that had not been repaired properly the first time around. It needed to be cut out and totally replaced to prevent mold from growing due to previous water damage. I also needed my front door realigned due to a bent hinge.

I would definitely refer him to anyone looking for quality work and I told him I will tell my neighbors about him here in our condo where we live. He was very clean and made sure everything was picked up when he had completed his work. There are many companies who did a very poor job at cleaning up but I must say Matt was an exception to this rule. He is a good working young man and I would tell anyone looking for services such as we had too give Matt a call. I assure you that you will not be disappointed. There is nothing he can't do so when we decide to do our other bathroom we will give Matt a call for sure.
Description of Work: I had Matt install a new bathroom vanity for us in our guest bathroom. He came along with me to help in the selection process. After selections were made Matt made sure that everything was in good condition and nothing was broken before leaving the store. He explained that the plumbing underneath the sink needed some work and he selected the necessary items to complete the job properly. He took all the materials in his truck as I was unable to do so in my auto. He came back within a week to begin the job as he was finishing up another job he had been working on. We had agreed on this previously so this did not present a problem for me. He called when he was en route to our home to advise us he was coming which we appreciated very much. When he arrived he began work immediately and didn't waste any time. He had to make several trips back to the store as he discovered he didn't have any liquid nails and the store hadn't given him a coupling I had paid for. He also discovered that there was no back on the vanity so he had another trip to make in order for this job to be completed in the proper way. He purchased a mirror for us to be put on the wall w/o me really asking for him to do it, but I didn't make a big deal out of this as a mirror was going to be necessary in any case. He did say if I didn't like it he would take it back. I just accepted the mirror as I really didn't want him having to leave again & then come back with another mirror. The mirror was exactly the same as the original so it all worked out. All in all I was happy with Matt and his work. He had a helper with him whenever he came & they worked well together as a team.

+ 4 moreAfter we bought our Florida home in Tarpon Springs, my wife went on line to Angie's List looking for different contractors to complete various jobs, both inside and outside the home. One of the contractors we interviewed and asked for a quote on items was Matt. We liked Matt from the very beginning. It was evident he was experienced, could do a multitude of jobs, and was "hands on" which was extremely important to us. We interviewed several other contractors and had them quote on the same jobs. Matt was not the cheapest nor was he the most expensive. But, after weighing everything we decided to go with Matt on our first jobs and see where we would go from there. The rest is history. We were extremely pleased with Matt's work. Not only pleased with the finished product, but pleased with how easy Matt was to work with. He and my wife worked well together, exchanging ideas and collaborating on the final design of terms. Over my career I have moved many times, worked with multiple contractors building & refinishing several homes (8 in all). Matt is the best I have ever worked with. He is a perfectionist. He is honest and committed to delivering what you want.I certainly feel I got the best value for my money with Matt. Now, if there is any project I need done around the house, I call Matt. We have built a trust and friendship. He also has many contacts in the business. If there is some expertise Matt needs he brings it in, but he never relinquishes control of the job. I guarantee, you will not go wrong with Matt.
