Gary is the ultimate professional. He showed up when he promised. He did the work with great skill and attention to detail. He cleaned up after himself. His estimated price was fair and he didn't inflate the price after he started, I've worked with a number of contractors in the 40 years I've lived in Gainesville but Gary is by far the best.
Description of Work: Gary has done two remodeling projects for me. One was removal of a load bearing wall to open a living room to the dining room and kitchen. The second project involved removing a closet wall to increase the size of a bedroom.

After purchasing a 3 year old home from the builder I discovered untreated pine was used on all outdoor wood areas of the house all of which needed to be replaced. Not only did Gary identify the problem areas and replace the wood with cedar, he came up with ideas on how to protect the new wood from water flowing off of the house. I watched him paint all surfaces of each piece of wood with sealant and again with paint. He was as concerned about the integrity of my house as much as he would have been if it where his own house. Gary discovered evidence of fraud on the part of the builder and reported it to me. This caused a two month delay in construction at Gary's expense. Anyone other contractor would have ignored the evidence of fraud in order to expedite the conclusion of the project. I've handled many construction projects in my life but Gary is the first contractor I've ever worked with that I could truly call a friend.

It was a pleasure being able to work with you [Member Name Removed] in repairing your house. By replacing the inferior materials with superior materials we have added many years to the life of your home, and I sincerely hope you enjoy it! Thank you very much for your business, and for your wonderful review! Gary Evans
I wanted to build a very large detached garage on my property. Space for 10 cars and a work area. I initially hired an Architect to help me design it. After throwing money away with an Architect who didn't have any idea what things really cost to build, I fired the architect and worked with Gary on the design. He listened to what I wanted, provided recommendations and come up with an outstanding design within my budget. I hired Gary, and the outcome was outstanding! This was a large project and he completed within budget. He chose the right sub contractors for the right jobs, and completed some of the work himself. In one case, where the subcontractor was not responsive, he fired them on the spot and made arrangement for a replacement immediately. It is about 3700 sq feet of total open garage. The outcome looks great and is very functional. I have attached picture of the results, because words cannot describe how great the final product was. I enjoyed working with Gary and hope that he will be available when I expand and build my second garage!

Gary is very detail oriented and I was able to communicate with him through the entire process with ease. Our home went from a 1968 time capsule with Avocado Green Appliances & Shag Carpets to a Beautiful Modern Home. We were able to customize all aspects of our home to suit our needs. After getting quotes and after some contractors failed to even quote the project Gary was a blessing. He delivered everything he promised and worked with us from beginning to end to make sure we were happy with the final product. Gary made our house Our Home.
Description of Work: Major/Complete Home Renovation - Upgraded Electric, New Plumbing, New Sewer, New Windows, New Garage Doors, Removed Walls, Added One (1) Full Bathroom, Upgraded (2) two Full Bathrooms, New Laundry Room, New Master Walking Closet, New Tile Floor (whole house), New Kitchen, Resurfaced all interior walls, New Interior Lighting, New Ceiling Fans, New Closet Doors & New Tankless Gas Water Heater.
To be determined. Mr. Evans was prompt, courteous, and professional. They did work on my son's house and my son was very satisfied to the point of recommending Evans & Evans for work to be done on my house.

Evans and Evans provided us an estimate for residing three sides of our house with Hardie Board and replacing our back door. We had rotting areas of T-111 siding that needed desperately to be replaced. Gary Evans was very thorough, explaining all the steps in the process, and mentioned things that other contractors didn't tell me needed to be done (like replacing the current trim so that the trim would stand out from the siding). The estimate from Evans and Evans was not the cheapest we received, but based on the thoroughness of his communication, willingness to answer questions, and taking the time to walk me through what needed to be done, we decided to go with them. The price was approximately what I expected to pay based on some preliminary online information gathering. Gary was flexible with scheduling, and started at the agreed-upon time. The job took approximately two weeks to complete. When the trim was removed, we discovered that the original Hardie Board next to the garage had not been installed properly. They replaced that section at no additional cost. The crew cleaned up after themselves and left the jobsite tidy at night after they left. Gary handled most communication via email (my preferred method), and did an excellent job communicating with us about the job while it was being done. I would not hesitate to work with Evans and Evans again. This was our first big home project, and Gary Evans made it as pleasant as could be.

Description of Work: Gary Evans and his staff remodeled our family room. They also replaced the entrance door to the family room. | |It was a pleasure working with Gary and his staff from the beginning of the project till the end. Gary was very helpful to us in making several decisions concerning the project. Gary and his staff were punctual, professional, courteous people. The price was fair and the quality excellent. I contacted Evans and Evans Construction to ask for a quote to replace exterior siding on my home. Gary responded quickly, arrived at my home, surveyed the areas that needed repair and then offered his own professional opinion on the steps that needed to be taken. I found this to be the most helpful part of entire process: instead of telling me in no uncertain terms what needed to be done and how it would be done, Gary and I engaged in a real conversation about the pluses and minuses of the various options available to me. This helped me to come to a decision about the scope of the work would be done, and how it would be done. Once we agreed on the scope of the project, Gray provided a detailed quote and contract for the work to be done, as well as all the required insurance and license documentation. Gary was also flexible with scheduling the start-day, and was willing to start when it was convenient for my family. Once Gary and his crew arrived, they were professional, punctual, and the work they performed was more that satisfactory; it was excellent. The work was completed ahead of schedule and the job site was left as clean (if not cleaner) than when they arrived. And to ensure that I was happy with the work, Gary patiently reviewed the repair work with me step by step. I would absolutely recommend Evans and Evans to anyone looking for a trustworthy and reasonably priced contractor who will perform high quality work!

The work was excellent. Gary is a good communicator as well as a good craftsman. The remodel involved almost half of my house as the living room ceiling below the two bedrooms had to be removed to complete plumbing and new electrical work. I took that opportunity to do some upgrades in the living room as well. Gary took the time to understand my needs and the structure of the house. He helped me design the bathroom space to be efficient. He explained everything he was doing every step of the way. He was able to maintain the integrity of my historic house by reusing molding and doors from the demolished part. He also saved the old wood floor to use in the new master bedroom. As with most old houses, once the house was opend up, there were some additional issues to address. With mine it was the electrical system from 1928. He helped me understand my choices in dealing with the old wiring and the pros and cons of having it addressed. Gary was also flexibile on changes and additions I made to the original plan. I was very happy with the work that his plumber, electrician, plasterer and tile setter performed. I highly recomend him for any construction work you are considering. I thought his price was reasonable and I am very happy with the completed work. It exceeded my expectations.

Projects on the home were completed in phases. The replacement of siding & repair to the back of the house were completed first. Mr. Evans had to coordinate with the local utility company and electrical subcontractors to complete the work. He made sure we were not without electricity for more than an 8-hour period. The second phase was repair and replacement of roof over the entrance of the home. Original roof was fiberglass, which was replaced in 2005 after significant hurricane damage in 2004. The new roof leaked and several attempts were made to correct the problems, none were successful. Mr. Evans as well as others were contacted to assess several problems that needed to be fixed. After reviewing the estimates provided and further discussion with all, we selected Mr. Evans. Mr. Evans researched current products on the market, which he thought would better meet our needs. After several delays, none because of Mr. Evans, the work was completed. We found Mr. Evans to be understanding of our desires both financially and aesthetically. We would hire Mr. Evans again.

I recently purchased a home that had significant water damage to an exterior wall. I got estimates from multiple people and initially went with another company since Gary's price was a little higher due to the fact he wanted to do a more extensive rebuild. After the first company I hired dug into the wall they realized the damage was worse than they thought and they were not licensed to do what needed to be done. I called Gary back and he came by the very next morning to assess the situation. He honored his earlier estimate even though what the other company had messed up was going to take him more work to fix. Once he started working, he realized that whoever initially built the wall had not done a good job and some things were not up to code, which again created more work for him. We eventually got everything put back together for roughly the initial estimate, even after the additional materials and labor. A month or two after he finished the work, my roof developed a leak near where he had been working. Even though it was likely not his fault (I had a new roof installed by a different company right around the same time), simply because there was a small chance that it might have been, he returned multiple times to troubleshoot where the leak was coming from. He eventually completely redid a small portion of the roof in the area where the leak was and that fixed the problem. Meanwhile, the new doorjamb that he had installed warped slightly due to the Florida humidity, causing the door to become crooked. He came and fixed this problem also, no questions asked. I am a first-time homeowner, meaning I didn't know a lot going into this process . Gary was and continues to be extremely helpful. In my opinion he is a very trustworthy and skilled contractor.

They were just fine. He just charged me by the hour. We negotiated a deal that was retractable to both of us. I was out of the country and Gary was receptive to coming out and working for me. He did a superb job, he did well enough that I asked him to come back and do a different project for me. He was not the cheapest estimate I got, but he did do superb work. I kept going back to him.
Description of Work: The first thing he did was he changed out all of the windows out of my house and he boxed in internal plumbing pipes on the exterior. When he came back the second time, he worked on my car port, jacked up the roof with a beam to make it structurally sound. The third time he came back, I asked him to pressure wash the exterior of the house and he painted the exterior trim.

I contacted many contractors who didn't want to bother with this job. Then I heard from Gary Evans of Evans & Evans Construction, who not only read my email, he had actually studied the pdf attachment, then emailed me immediately to tell me he thought I had ordered the WRONG DOOR. And I had!!! I ordered the dog door for door installation, when I needed the dog door for wall installation. How amazing is this??!! Gary caught my mistake, so that I was able to return the wrong door, and order the right door and have it at our home before he came out for the installation. I was impressed beyond words before I even met him!! Gary was in constant communication; when the door arrived, scheduling the work day, then confirming the date. He arrived on time, in a company truck packed with every tool he needed. He unpacked the box and studied the drawings again, then flawlessly installed the door. This was installed through our hardiboard exterior siding, through the wall and into the garage. My husband and I were busy with Saturday chores but peeked in once in a while, in awe, at all the work (precise placement, measuring, cutting metal, walls, siding, the door installation) that was involved - and the skill that Gary has. His work is impeccable. He is honest, personable, professional, and we would recommend him without hesitation. One last word to any other contractors reading this - we plan to turn this big garage into a downstairs master suite, add on a large master bath and closet, and back deck that connects with our existing deck in the very near future. Guess who has the job? Gary Evans, Evans & Evans Construction. Gary says "that kind of work is really his specialty". He works with an architect and engineer who fool-proof floor plans (CRITICAL) and specializes in home additions and remodels. We spent time in the backyard discussing our renovation ideas and Gary could see it just as we did. We wouldn't consider using anyone else. So, sometimes it pays to help a customer out with a small job - you never know what other business might come from it!
Description of Work: We purchased a large dog door which we wanted installed to connect the outside of the house to the inside of the garage via our wrap around porch. This was a very critical event for us. We're dog lovers and our precious pups (three) provide us with tons of laughter, companionship and love in return. Their safety and comfort is critical to us and their dog walker is moving away this summer. We had to find a solution. Our Grand Plan was to buy a shed, move all the garage contents into it and turn the garage into a heated and air conditioned dog lounge. Much planning went into making this happen. We got it all done and ordered the dog door.... Then we turned to Angie's List to find a contractor to install the door. The door was expensive, and in my correspondence to the contractors I included specific descriptions of what we needed, what we ordered, and asked that any interested contractors please read the pdf files I attached for the door.
Evans and Evans Construction did a fantastic job and our overall experience was excellent. The structure was very unique. Gary and his crew made the pump house look as if it had always been there. They worked efficiently, the quality was the best and at a very fair price. Gary was straightforward to deal with, on time and worked the whole day. When I compare Gary to other contractors we have used he is excellent!!
Description of Work: We wanted to move an outside water treatment and softener system to an indoor location. We designed a pump house that was attached to our garage and that matched the rest of our custom contemporary house. A concrete slab, concrete step and shed structure needed to be built from scratch. Also underground water PVC pipes needed to be moved from the old to the new location.

We got a few estimates. Gary came in less and he was more knowledgeable and more willing to let us do some of the work. Gary was very easy to work with and a man of his word. He and his team were prompt, reliable, courteous and paid attention to detail. He worked well with the subcontractors for the poured slab and the roof. They worked in the middle of the summer with little complaint of the heat.
Description of Work: A metal roof pole barn 50’ x 25’ was converted to a workshop and storage area. One quarter of the barn was enclosed and 2/3 was slab. Work done: pour rest of slab, framing, OSB interior walls, exterior sheathing and cement board siding, ceiling, paint exterior, new metal roof, dig ditch for electrical. We chose to do the demolition, insulation, interior painting and electrical work ourselves.
We are very happy with the work that Gary and his team did. No one would have known how much of a bear this job was because the fireplace was poorly constructed. Thus Gary and his team had to work very, very hard. They were pleasant and easy to work with. We also found them reliable, knowledgeable and trustworthy. They were careful with our property and took extensive measures to prevent dust getting all over the house. Gary made sure were very satisfied with the work.
Description of Work: We wanted to remove a very large stone fireplace in the middle of the living room. As a result the roof and floor needed to be patched. Installing roof shingles was subcontracted.
