My husband and I are very budget conscious, and because of this we sought out numerous roofing companies to give us their estimate to reroof our home. Surprisingly to us, the estimates were all very similar, within 10% from one another. We decided to go with McFall Roofing in Gainesville, FL. Not because they were the least expensive, which originally was a priority, but because there was something about Mike McFall that gave us a sense of peace and confidence in the undertaking of the reroofing process. He responded willingly to my skylight desire by making his way through our very small attic to insure the skylight was possible...did I mention it was a hot Spring afternoon? Mike did a great job of communicating with me and answering my questions promptly. And after the job began, the work went smoothly with their friendly and efficient crew. Their professionalism, our experience, and end product was worth every penny! Julia

They were professionals from the first meeting through the final clean up. Everything was completed on time and with excellent quality. The bid was the most complete one I received with clear indications of what was included in the bid and what was not. The work was begun and completed on schedule. Every day they cleaned up carefully at the end of the workday. I could not be more pleased.

I live out of state and he took care of everything with my mom's house locally for me basically all over the phone. Inspected the job on my next visit and it was done with quality and everything I needed. I would definitely recommend this company and will be using this company again!
Description of Work: Anthony was very professional and quick to give me both an estimate and complete the job. He replaced a vent, fixed flashing around the chimney, replaced some shingles, and filled the holes from the tarp we put on with cement so they wouldn't leak.

McFall replaced our roof over the course of about a week. The work was thorough, and independent inspection gave it good marks. It looks good, and they didn't leave a mess behind.
Description of Work: Great results, left things clean when done
They were very easy to work with and very few days when we could not use the kitchen.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen cabinets, sink, countertop, and floor. Using the same layout new wooden cabinets replaced laminate cabinets. Granite counter tops and tile floors installed as well as new sink and faucet. Part of a wall was removed around existing pantry to enlarge the pantry. Also added undercounter lighting.

Michael McFall was terrific from beginning to end. The quote was fully explained including why they do things the way they do and the advantages of it compared to how others may do it. He did this as he knew others would be cheaper but we've always found that you get what you pay for. He did everything he could to be sure we would be happy with the color we picked including providing addresses of houses nearby with the roofs we were considering. He kept us up to date on what was going to happen when (including rain delays) and was there to make sure it was done right (ex. delivery of the dumpster). The crew was incredibly careful to avoid damage to our house, plants and pool. This included moving pots and furniture to a safe distance and completely covering the pool with a tarp. Mike checked with us before anything was done that could have been the least bit controversial to avoid surprises. When finished the clean up very satisfactory. The entire crew were always friendly, cordial and professional in dealing with us. It was clear throughout that their number one priority was for us to be 100% satisfied and happy with the job. We are and I don't see how anyone could have done better.

How is the job going, not great do to the rain and I had a lot of issues replacing fascia boards about 40 feet in total but at a very reasonable price. Roof was to take 4 to 5 days, 2 1/2 days were already lost to rain. Now Dos and Don't. Do get more than 1 price to replace your roof, 3 at least. Do go on the net and look up the shingle to be used. The warranty is important, 30, to 50 years or limited life time. Shingles used in Fl and other areas are mold resistant there is no extra cost for mold resistance. Do request a contract & terms and conditions sheet from every contractor and compare them, there is important info here and they are not all the same. Do get info on the size of your roof as there are a few GPS systems that are not as good as others. This is in "Squares" 10 ft X 10 ft is one square. Make sure all contractors are very close in these numbers. Some do not use a GPS picture or can't use it as trees cover the roof. Measurements are than done on the roof. Do call your Insurance co. and get a claim number, most will inspect your roof for damage if needed. Do ask questions, if you do not understand ask for an explanation. Do get references and make a few calls but this could be helpful, and ask about that co. staff. Do ask for insurance Deck sheets and call that insurance to confirm coverage. Don't trust your insurance co. to do the right thing. To often they will low ball their cost, or say there is no damage. You may get help from all roofers you meet with by asking them to do a letter with pictures. Your Insurance Co. may call your roofer. Demand all documents to support their cost of the roof, in my case they said 59 squares GPS they used was wrong, it was 62 squared and I won that battle with Mr. McFall's help! Don't believe the there is a life time mold resistance shingle, at best 7 to 10 year period maybe more or less. Don't trust all estimates you get or every thing you may be told. Check it out, a roof can cost $5,000 to $30,000 or more depending on size, do some homework. Don't be afraid to fight with your Insurance Co. as I have been told that there is no such thing as a "little damage" It's damaged or it's not, period! My roof is not yet finished maybe a few more days if no rain. I selected MaFall as I believe they are better that good, and all the other I believe will do a good job as well. Is MaFall a bit more in cost, yes, but a minor cost to me and others as well, my opinion: well worth it! One other point: check your fascia boards if in need to fix or replace this is the right time to do it. Mr. McFall & staff thank you for for your help and the quality work you are doing!
Description of Work: Do to the Hail storm on March 14, 2012 my roof was damaged. I filed a claim and had the roof inspected, once approved I researched re-roof our house. I studied roofing for about about 4 days as I have done a lot of renovations to our homes, 5 in total. While in NJ I got ripped off by 2 contractors and after that I research all my projects before and only use a contracted if I can not do the Job myself. I am smart enough to know what I can do and can dot do. I don't do roofing. I got estimates from 5 roofing contractors and had my list of 20 questions. The first contractor was Mike McFall. He inspected the roof first and than explained the way roof replacements are completed. I than started with my list of questions. We talked for about 2 hours, he addressed all questions, some of my questions were not revelent but most were. I was now better educated about roofing than before, and better equipped to meet with the other 4 contracted. Two of the contractors asked me if I was a builder because of my questions. Mr. McFall was now the standard that had to be improved upon by all others. Not one other roofer was equal to McFall Roofing or better. Later that day he sent me his pricing with a GPS analysis by Pictometry supporting his price, square foot of roof, length of ridge, hip, valley, eave, step flashing, pitch on roof and waste factor. His estimate covered every item my insurance company needed, and other items they excluded. No other roofer came close to this amount of detail, one contractor that I asked for the details to support their price never sent it to me and other had to adjust pricing as measurements were not as accurate. My opinion is that McFall is better than others, quality products, his staff is great, clean up every day like they were never here, protected drive way for dempster after checking it, at least 1 hour + to pick up nails and did it often during the days, protected all plants, protected the screen encloser not with a tarp but 1/2 ply wood and coverer pool ecumenic with ply wood as well. I had off ridge vent, and replaced them with ridge vents and when they were removed the hole was not just covered the entire sheet of ply wood was replaced. His staff are professional roofers, well trained, hard working and a team that works together. They are friendly and will answer my questions as I watched them every day just because I an interested in all phases of construction and I am learning how a roof gets done right the first time. On a 1 to 10 scale they are a 12 even better. The owner of the company, Martin McFall, Mike's Dad, has been here 3 days so far. That's shows to me they really care about their jobs and do nothing lest but superior work.

The biggest problem was the weather. It rained almost every day last week. The crew was careful to remove small areas of roof at a time and cover it with a synthetic underlayment that is waterproof, so when it started raining, the wood was not exposed. The crew was very polite and neat. Friday and Saturday were the only nice days weather wise, and they made a big push to finish the roof, as they were concerned about the possible upcoming storms from the hurricane. They cleaned up each day and at the end of the job, and left us replacement shingles, which no company has done before. Their price was a tiny bit higher than some, and lower than others. I got four bids altogether, and they were in the middle of the group price wise. They seem to be using a better underlayment, and it may be my imagination, but it looks to me like the shingles they use have more depth and color to them compared to some of the other new roofs I have seen. As mentioned above, they changed the venting system on the roof believing it to be more effective - I'm sure it would have been easier to just replace what was there. They painted the new pipes and accessories on the roof to match the shingles and that looks very nice. McFall also gives a ten year warranty on labor. They installed a stand off strip on the roof, which was never done on the old roof, and that helps keep the fascia board clean when it rains. They also are sending an inspector to do a wind mitigation inspection that may help lower insurance premiums. Michael McFall, the owner, is outstanding in communicating with clients. I really liked that fact that most of the time, Michael answered his calls right away himself. If you had to leave a message, he returned the call promptly. When Michael came to the house with the contract, he was very thorough in going over all the details. He also called every afternoon to keep us updated on progress. I would not hesitate to recommend Michael and McFall Builders for any roofing needs. We are very pleased with the job and would certainly use McFall Builders again.
Description of Work: The old roof was damaged by the hail storm in March 2012 and was replaced. McFall also replaced and primed some fascia boards that were rotten. They changed the venting system from off ridge vents to on- ridge vents, as McFall believes that to be a better venting system. They also installed a stand off strip on the roof.

It took Michael McFall over a week from the day I spoke to him about obtaining a re roofing estimate to get back to me. Other companies had already replied and provided an estimate to do the job. However, during this time, he did call and apologize for the delay. The estimate he gave me was in a folder, very professionally done, and included other information that was helpful. Mr. McFall spent a good amount of time explaining the roofing process and the contract and didn't seem the least bit rushed while answering my questions. Honestly, the price he quoted was higher than other companies, but after some research, it appeared that what he was planning to do and the materials he was planning to use were of higher quality work and materials. The job took two mornings and about an hour on a third morning. The workers worked at a steady pace, didn't make any conversation with me, but also didn't have any unprofessional behavior. During the job, we found 8 nails around the house, and since they've left last week, we've found 4 nails. That concerned me, but I don't know if that would have been any different with any other company. Michael McFall was very responsive, always answering my calls, my questions, and took the time to check on the job daily.
Description of Work: The company put a new roof on my house. They replaced two skylights and painted vents to match the color of the tiles.

Description of Work: To date I only requested a roofing estimate. I showing him our roofing needs he spotted a place around the fireplace that was unsealed. He took care of the problems and said no charge. I will be calling them when I do replace the roof this winter. Great attitude.

After a branch knocked a hole through my roof, McFall was able to repair it cheaply and quickly. Other roofers wanted to rip out a large section and "do it right" but there was clearly no structural/beam damage, and my roof is going to be replaced in the next year or two anyway. So, I was happy to get an affordable repair done. It's been about 8 months, and the roof doesn't leak at all. I just wish it looked a little better. The shingle color is much lighter than the original roof. I'd use them again for repairs.

Wow. Our 20-year-old, huge, irregular roof, which we'd been planning to replace anyway, announced it was done with a leak that poured a waterfall of water through the ceiling -- through a fixture and right into the master bathtub, fortunately. I'd already done some research on re-roofing because of the age of the roof, and selected McFall using Google and Angie's List. So my husband called McFall Roofing and Michael McFall came right out to talk to him and sent some of his men to fix the immediate problem. Mr. McFall provided a detailed estimate including satellite photos of our roof in just a few days, which was entirely satisfactory, and we agreed on a start time. It wasn't cheap, but it brings our roof up to the most up-to-date code, with much improved venting, and will reduce our home insurance premiums because the roof is now much more wind resistant. The work is guaranteed for 10 years and the roof should last as long as our house does. The proviso was that McFall's crew would be done in time for Thanksgiving, and they were! I was very impressed by the detailed planning, Mr. McFall's availability and promptitude, and the timely completion. But what really floated my boat was the professionalism of the team. It was obvious that most of them had worked together for years and were proud of their work. When painting or extensive carpentry to repair areas of rot had to be done, men from McFall Builders came to do it, and they were as impressive as the roofers. The crew spent hours on clean-up, not just on the last day but throughout, and used a large magnetic device to find any roofing nails that escaped the catching devices on the roof. Since they left, we've found all of three roofing nails and one small piece of shingle. This is a huge contrast to some work we had done on the roof at the house we had in Ohio years ago, when lots of nails and other debris were left in our flower beds and on our deck and balcony.Mr. McFall left us spare shingles in case there's ever any need for repairs, and a really good taste in our mouths. We plan to use this company again for future work on our house or if we decide to build a new home. These are quality craftsmen who respect themselves and the homeowner and Michael McFall is a straight shooter. A really good experience.
Description of Work: The crew started when agreed upon, set up guards to protect the plants (only a few basil stalks were damaged in a densely planted yard) and catch any loose nails, and methodically stripped the old roof. They brought in a large dumpster into a tight driveway and damaged nothing, having carefully placed plywood and supports on our driveway. They carefully replaced all areas of rot, only slightly exceeding the replacement plywood allowance specified in the contract (they also took away the plywood they'd brought and exchanged it for thicker wood (at no extra cost to us) when they found it didn't match the original thickness). They covered the exposed areas with liner that was guaranteed to be waterproof for 100 days even if not covered with shingles, and though we did have one heavy rain during the roofing no water penetrated that liner. They re-vented the entire roof up to current code, put new grates on all the vents to keep the critters out, and paid special attention to the area around our chimney, which had caused problems in the past. Then they methodically re-shingled the entire roof and cleaned up after themselves so beautifully they left the place as clean as they found it (see also below). All this was accomplshed in two weeks, and we have a large and irregular roof. Very well done.

They can help you get plans drawn by a very intelligent, capable, affordable draftsman. Then they do their "take-off" from these plans, acquire subcontractor bids for labor, get the best material pricing, etc. You are presented with a budget with clear-cut "allowances" for each element.
Description of Work: I have not had Martin P. McFall Builders perform work for me. I was their Office Manager for four years. I want to let people know that Marty and his sons, Jason and Michael, are the most honest, hard-working men in Gainesville. If you have a house plan, or just a rough drawing for a remodel or other project, they can give you an accurate estimate with clear-cut allowances for every phase of construction. You can make decisions by level of importance to your own circumstances and allocate funds to the things that really matter to you personally. They are well versed in all the options and various methods to accomplish your project. YOU have control of your project to whatever level you want, or you can feel comfortable leaving everything in their capable hands. Martin has over 35 years under his belt as a homebuilder in Gainesville, Florida. He's well-known in the community. He uses the BEST materials available from the best suppliers. His subcontractors have, for the most part, been with him for many years. They are the cream of the crop in their trades. I wouldn't hesitate to contract with them to build my home or business. They also do remodeling and roofing. Visit their website at www.mcfallbuilders.com. Thank you!

McFall roofers gave a clear and reasonable estimate for the job, arrived only a short time after the promised date due to rain, and showed up for work promptly and regularly for the next several days until the job was almost completed. The job took a bit longer than anticipated because of the discovery of rotten wood underneath old shingles, but this was handled quickly and professionally, and I was charged the agreed upon price for this work. The final cleanup and settling up took a bit longer than expected because of inspection delays, etc. Michael McFall was professional and accessible, and the crew was helpful and professional, despite one small accident where some spillage occurred, but this was taken care of quickly. Overall I was quite satisfied with the job done by by McFall Roofing.

They made a lot of promises about how professional they are and how they will take good care of you, but they aren?t that good once you have submitted to the contract. The project coordinator swore that he would give me his A-team but it was like a bait and switch. The guys that came in to do the solar tubes were from the roof crew and these were the first solar tubes they had put in. They aren?t used to working inside a house so they didn?t think to put down a tarp to catch the debris as they were sawing. They didn?t think to clean up after themselves either. They were nice guys but there was no training or oversight while they were here. They tried to charge for other things like Porta-Potties that they said they were going to use but didn?t. I didn?t want the whole house cleaning that they offered because I was exasperated. They had put a ceiling fan in my screen porch but the price that I was quoted was way higher than it would have been if I had called in my own guys. They kept justifying it by saying that they needed to make a profit. The son is taking over the company and he is still young and into the party scene. The project coordinator was also his party coordinator and he would take days off of my job to plan parties for his boss. I got tired of that whole mid-20s attitude. I?d hear about these big parties but I?m looking at work that wasn?t done on time because the project coordinator was too hungover from partying with his boss. He had promised that he would be available 24/7 to take my calls, but when there was a problem I couldn?t get through. He gave me excuses about his phone falling into the sea but he never bothered to return the calls I made to the office either. All I was asking for was to be treated professionally. I was going to pay when everything was finished but they came asking for the money before the county inspector had come and before they had completed everything. This guy came to my house uninvited, he came through my back yard gate, and came to the screen porch where I happened to be sitting. He asked for his money but I showed him what the contract said and pointed out that I didn?t have to pay until everything was finished and signed-off. I don?t like that he didn?t have the courtesy to call ahead or even to knock on the front door first. He called his office and it turns out that I was right and he at least had the grace to apologize. I felt invaded that this kid came in making it sound like I was trying to rip them off. I wouldn?t recommend doing business with McFall because it isn?t worth the headache. The project coordinator is also the one that lines up the jobs and he is like a con-artist; he gives this impression that everything is going to be wonderful. I came to find out that they don?t have an A-team and they wanted to switch out their best painter from my place with a team that had botched up a job at another house. I just said no and that I didn?t want that team. The number one painter turned out to be really into drinking and he tried to seduce my daughter when she came to see me. He would show up with beer and did not do a real good job; he was really unprofessional. The whole experience was immature and unprofessional and I will be surprised if this company stays in business. Under his father, McFall Builders had a good reputation. Under the son, the reputation is quickly going down hill.
Description of Work: McFall Builders installed three solar tubes and a skylight. They also did the screen porch on the back and painted on the interior. They were going to do the garage but I was so exasperated that I nixed that project.

Excellent service. They cleaned up each night. The men working on the roof were polite. I had an overall excellent experience. They replaced all the wood rot and kept me in formed of the work. The price was very competitive and they began immediately. I would recommend them to friends and use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced my roof, added a vent and replaced wood rot.

It went pretty well. The weather was a little difficult as one day it was blazing hot the next day it poured rain. But eventually they got the roof up. We have a steep roofline and the shingles we chose had to go on in a pattern so it wasn't easy but nobody complained to us and we were very happy with the result.
Description of Work: We met with Jason McFall and went over what type of shingle we wanted. We wanted an architectural style and he helped us select one. They removed our old shingles and prepared our roof for the new ones then put them on. .

It went pretty well. They are roofers as well and general contractors so they're doing a lot of different jobs. The window company they used were very good and local which I liked. The carpenter and painters were all very professional. Occasionally, a day or two went by when nobody worked on the project, but we've done a lot of remodeling and that is par for the course. Sometimes the subs aren't available. But the McFalls were very easy to work with over all.
Description of Work: All of our windows were replaced with double pane windows. The removed window trim on outside and replaced windows and replaced trim and painted trim.
