For the most part it went very well and we would give them an "A" overall if it were not for some issues we had with damage to our trees and landscaping around the house. To start with McFall was very professional and efficient in coming to look that the places in our roof that were leaking. They made a reasonable argument and estimate for how it would be better to replace the entire 15 year old roof rather than just trying to repair it. The cost estimate and breakdown were very clear and reasonable. They detailed when and how they would replace the roof shingles and stuck to that time schedule and cost estimate.. The only problem came when the repair crew was taking off the old roof/shingles. We were very clear that we did not want a lot of debris and old roofing materials to be scattered around the yard and wanted our landscaping to be protected from damage. It was our understanding that they would take most of the old roof off and place it in a dumpster that was placed by the garage. This was not done. Although they put tarps over the plantings, a number of plants were injured but materials they threw off of the roof onto the tarps. In addition, the crew chopped back limbs of trees that were hanging over the roof without asking our permission. Largely all of this was a problem of the demolition crew not being properly supervised. We had to get a professional tree surgeon to cut back the trees so has to make them look reasonable (instead of asymmetric) and to regrow properly. To McFall's credit they were very apologetic and had no problem paying for the cost of the tree surgeon. In the end the roofing was put on very quickly and efficiently and it looks great. The cost seemed very reasonable (not cheap) for what was entailed. Management was very responsive to our calls and when we did have a problem. I would recommend them but be very clear about what you expect from the demolition side of the job.

We discovered during a recent rainstorm that we had a leak in our roof. I called a handyman who refused to patch the roof. He said I needed a roofer so researched roofers on Angie's list and decided to call McFall Builders. I left a message one time and then called back a day later to make sure they had received the message since I hadn't heard from them. Anthony came to see us, and went up to see the area where we had a leak. I knew we were about due for a new roof and he confirmed it. He said they wouldn't repair it since they'd guarantee it for 10 years and we needed a new roof. He told us about the company, the products they'd use on our roof, presented their work site rules and how they protected the landscaping during the re-roofing, the fact that their workman ship was guaranteed for 10 years and then he measured our roof. If we decided to hire them, they would put a tarp over the area where we had the leak until they could re-roof the house. He told us roughly what the cost would be - big surprise because we've never put a new roof on a house. I told him I'd found them on Angie's list and he mentioned the coupon. I'd forgotten about it. He also recommended a color for the shingles when I asked. A few days later he called and stopped by with an actual estimate and left it for my husband and me to consider. In addition to replacing the roof, they were replacing skylights with double pane low-e skylights, installing continuous on-ridge venting, squirrel-proof all lead boots and paint all accessories on the roof to mach shingles, and having a qualified person to come take photos of the work, fill out a wind mitigation form for possible insurance discounts, and file it with our insurance company. The work they did also included re-nailing existing plywood decking with nails to meet Florida Building Code Hurricane Mitigation Retrofit, they cleaned up the area each day and used a magnetic device to pick up nails. They shingles they used were ranked as a Best Buy by Consumer Reports. We decided to go with them and Anthony brought the contract over for us to sign. He'd forgotten the Angie's list discount so we inserted it into the documents. He said it would be the end of Sept. before they could re-roof our house since they were really busy but they'd come put a tarp over the area where we had the leak. They did cover the leak before the next rainstorm. I received a call from Anthony couple of weeks later and they were going to move our house up to the last week in Aug. because they had a 6 month job coming up. He called on a Sunday morning before they were supposed to start the job on Monday and apologized for having to move our start date to the following week because they had been delayed in finishing up some other jobs due to all the rain. He said they'd start Monday (Labor Day - and they did). The port-a-potty, the dumpster and some materials were delivered on Friday before Labor Day and they started on Labor Day at 7 am. We took the dogs and went out for the day. It took them a week to complete the roof as Anthony had estimated. They covered the landscaping around the house each day in the area where they were working and had a ridge on the roof to catch debris for the particular area where they worked each day. They didn't tell us when the amount of plywood in the estimate had been exceeded but Anthony did call and tell us the number of sheets of plywood they used when the job was finished. We had talked to the supervisor on the job and he'd told us that someone had put screws in the shingles to hold down the gutter guards and it allowed water in which caused the plywood to rot and we could see the plywood in the dumpster each day so we knew it could go over the original estimate some. The roof looks wonderful. We could immediately tell a difference when the new skylights went in - it was slightly darker but not quite as hot in that area. They day they replaced the skylights, we came home and also found a little debris on the kitchen floor and counter under the skylights but it wasn't much - it was very small particles. If you have skylights replaced, we recommend finding out the day they'll do it and placing newspaper or something to catch the dust and small debris. It didn't occur to us to do so. Since neither of us wanted to climb on the roof to inspect the work, we got our binoculars and looked it over. They did a good job, our landscaping looks as good as it did prior to the roofing being done, we've literally only found a couple of pieces of debris (small) that could be associated with the roofing job and considering all they did, that's amazing. One pipe was tilting slightly when Anthony came to pick up the final check and he went upon the roof to straighten it and make sure it was sealed tightly. McFall's has an inspector who comes to the house to inspect the final work in addition to the county inspector. When Anthony picked up the check, he told me that the person who'd be filling out the paperwork would be calling within a couple of days. I didn't hear from him in the estimated time so I called Anthony and he said he'd call the gentleman. The person called the next day and we made an appointment. He said he'd just been extremely busy lately. He crawled up into our attic and took photos. He obtained our homeowner insurance info from us and sent me a copy of the report later that evening. We received our discount today and were amazed at the amount. It was more than Anthony had estimated but the amount depends upon the insurance company. We were very pleased with the workmanship, the conduct of the roofers when we were around, and they kept the area clean during the week but then did a final sweep of the yard at the end of the job and cleaned up whatever hadn't been earlier. I highly recommend them and they may be more expensive than some other roofers in the area but they were very professional and we are pleased with our homeowners discount. Anthony always called before he stopped by and usually the time period was before he said it would be. They had to change the date they were going to start roofing our house at the last minute due to unexpected delays on other jobs but it worked out fine - it would be hard to estimate with all the rain we've had this summer. Hopefully never need to re-roof a house but if we do, we'll use them again and have recommended them to our neighbors when we talk about our roof. None have needed a new roof as of yet but will within the next 5 years.

Mike McFall was our contact person. He was professional, punctual, and thorough. The crew that worked on roof was courteous and professional. They arrived on time each day and worked hard all day long. When they finished each day, our property was swept for trash and nails. At the end of the project, our yard was spotless. They even checked the surrounding properties for roofing debris. Mike called us a few days after the work was complete to do a walk through to make sure the work was done to our satisfaction.
Description of Work: We had all of the shingles replaced. The plywood was renailed and a heat barrier will be applied to underside of plywood in the attic. They also installed a solar fan to help draw out the heat from the attic.

It went very well. They arrived on time and were professional in their demeanor. The area around my house was kept clean of debris. When the amount of plywood they used exceeded the estimate, the let me know right away. They did extra work around the chimney, including new HardieBoard and a new custom made chimney cap. I have been told stories by several neighbors about other homeowners who had their roof done and did not address their chimneys and experienced leaks afterword. So this was a good thing. They also painted the wood and trim and cap on the chimney. All my gutters were left intact and are fully functional. They also added more roof vents than I had before so more hot air will escape from the roof, thus prolonging the life of the shingles, etc. I would definitely recommend McFall and I would use them again should the need arise.

This is a fairly long review, written on June 16, 2014, so this paragraph is the bottom line if you don't read the whole thing. I had my entire 22 year old roof replaced in February 2014 and chose McFall Roofing for the job. I would strongly recommend that you let McFall Roofing give you a proposal on any roofing needs that you have. They likely won't be the least expensive, but they will do an excellent job and follow though afterward. I decided to use only Angie's List to choose which roofing contractors I wanted to give me proposals on a complete re-roof. There are multitudes of roofing contractors and choosing one isn't easy. It takes any contractor several years to build its reputation. Also, there isn't any contractor that will please everyone all the time. You just can't please some people no matter how hard you try, so the occasional negative review needs to be taken in stride. I rarely hire any contractor that hasn't been in business for at least five years, so I generally won't call them for a proposal. When choosing any contractor to work on your home, there are many things to consider besides the price. There will always be contractors that can low-ball a price. It doesn't mean that's what the final job will cost you. There are usually some unforeseen issues that will cost you more. There are also possible legal issues that can cost you a lot. That makes it very important to choose a contractor not just on price, but on reputation. A contractor that is much lower in cost on their bid must to be asked some very important questions, and asked for proof of their answers. Low cost contractors often cut costs, that at best, will give you a shorter lifespan of the work being done, and at worse, are illegal and could cost you your home. All contractors must licensed by the state. You must verify this and that the contractor is insured before providing the services that you need. An unlicensed contractor is someone that you may not be able to hold accountable if things go wrong. An uninsured contractor is leaving you, as the home owner, holding the bag for anything that goes wrong. You must have contractors provide proof of liability insurance so that you are protected if they damage something, and provide proof of worker's compensation insurance in case one or more their crew is injured on your job, so that you are not financially responsible. A low cost contractor my not be able to provide proof of these types of insurance. Worker's comp and liability insurance for a roofer is expensive. That cost has to be reflected in their price. A reputable roofing contractor will also get a building permit before working on your roof. Work that is performed without a building permit goes without an inspection from the local government building codes inspector. That can cost you not only in the job being substandard, but if discovered, cost you substantial fines and extra fees to correct. If the contractor doesn't say they are going to pull a building permit and doesn't disclose it in their proposal, I would recommend that you don't choose them. If they tell you that you don't need a building permit for a re-roof job, they are wrong. A reputable contractor will give you in your proposal, proof of their licensing, liability and worker's comp insurance, the disclosure of fees for the building permit, a listing of all the materials required, an estimate for replacing damaged or rotted sheeting and wood, what unforeseen items will cost in materials and labor, and return your calls or emails promptly when contacted. If your future contractor doesn't do these things, I'd recommend that you don't choose them. From Angie's List, I chose six roofing contractors for proposals. Of the six, one contractor pulled up my home on Google maps street view while I was on the phone with them and said my roof was too steep for their crew to work on. Another contractor sent an estimator and decided after briefly walking the roof, they were not up to the challenge since it was too steep. That left four, one of which never returned my call after I left a voicemail. Of the three contractors remaining, all gave me a proposal. One of the proposals was from top tier contractor that was also the most expensive of the three. It seemed like their proposal was for a worst case scenario of what it would cost to replace my roof, and that probably is what caused it to be noticeably higher. It was like they built into the price not only the costs of materials, labor and discovered damage that had to be replaced, but enough buffer in the price that even replacing a lot more unforeseen damage would still result in the price quoted in the proposal being the final price of the job. To me it was like a ?no surprises? proposal, and for some people, they may desire that peace of mind in knowing that what they were quoted is what they would pay in the end. The proposal was very professional, and in my opinion, a bit too professional. Almost like I was dealing with a mega-corporation. They likely would have done a fine job, but to me their presentation was a bit cold and too professional, in addition to being noticeably higher than the others. Another proposal I received was noticeably less costly than the other two, and while reputable, in my opinion, wasn't professional enough. The proposal was on a preprinted form that was filled in by hand. That made it a bit harder for me to read. The estimator that walked my roof only spent a few minutes on the roof and that concerned me a bit. When they worked up the proposal, all the required items were in it, however, when it came to replacing damaged sheeting and wood, it was on a piece by piece basis for labor and materials as it was discovered during the re-roof without an up front estimation of what needed replacing. That would definitely add to the final cost of the re-roof job. To me, that made the proposal not as low cost as it seemed. There will always be some wood or sheeting that needs to be replaced with a very old roof. Trying to figure that out takes time and a thorough examination of the roof. In my opinion, that kind of estimating needs to be part of the base proposal, with a spelled out cost of materials and labor for things that were not detectable during the roof inspection. While reputable with a good track record, I felt that their proposal was lacking. When McFall's estimator arrived, he spent more time on my roof than any other contractor spent at my house during their entire visit. It seemed like he was on my roof a long time, but was really about 20 minutes. When the estimator came down, he said that the proposal wouldn't be ready for a day or two, and someone could stop by to deliver it, or it could be emailed to me. While the McFall estimator was on the roof, I could hear him walking, using a steel tape to measure, stomping, pounding and what really seemed like sizing up and ?feeling? the roof. I was pretty confident that the proposal would include a good, close estimate of what it would cost to replace the roof with discoverable damage. When I received their proposal, it was professional, with all the required information and documentation presented, cost built in for sheeting that would need to be replaced based on their inspection, and the cost of materials and labor for undiscovered damage. Michael McFall visited me to deliver the proposal, and brought to me a sampling of the roofing materials to be used. I was provided a detailed, in-person explanation of all the elements of the proposal. McFall ensures that area around your house is protected while working, covering plants, A/C units, having a person remove debris as it's being scuttled off the roof, that after working each day, a magnet is used to sweep for nails in the drive and walk ways, that nothing is left uncovered on the roof at the end of the day in case of rain, and ensuring that the house looks as presentable as possible given the work that is being done at the time. In addition, the McFall warranty was for 10 years and they would take care of any issues with materials and labor during that time. It was the best warranty of workmanship I've ever seen provided by a contractor. McFall is a family owned and operated business, and you can see when dealing with them that their reputation, their family's reputation, is very important to them. After studying the three proposals for a couple days, I decided to go with McFall. Upon signing the contract, McFall scheduled the job to start about three weeks later. I have about 2,800 square feet under the roof, but since the roof has a significant pitch, it would take about 4,400 square feet of materials to cover it. I was told it would take about a week to complete the job. Since the weather was cooperative, they finished it in two days. In fact, their work was so well orchestrated and performed, my neighbor, who also had a 22 year old roof, chose McFall as her contractor and had her house re-roofed shortly after mine. Of course, follow up after the job is extremely important. As with any job of this scale, there are always going to be concerns or things that need to be addressed. After the job was completed, there were some fit and finish concerns that I brought to Michael McFall's attention. Those were immediately addressed and resolved at no charge the next day. You can't ask for any better follow up service than that. You can tell that reputation is important to them. McFall Roofing is simply the best contractor I've ever had experience with. They probably won't be the lowest in price, nor likely the highest, but I believe that they will be the best choice and one that will give you peace of mind after the job. I highly recommend them.

I am reasonably happy with the results. The workmanship has held up over the years since it was finished and the results still look good. I liked the results. Several of the subcontracts were very good and I have used them for small projects in my home since then with excellent results. My biggest complaint is that the work was projected to take a few months but actually took almost one year. I thought that was bit much. Aside from that, there were no major complaints. I would definitely recommend them.

Our 20+ year old roof was leaking and in need of replacing so after calling 4 different roofers of which only two responded, we decided to go with McFall Builders because of price and overall quality of work. After initial contact, Michael McFall came by within a few days with an estimate and samples of the products they would be using and why they use them. The presentation was very informative and professional. He gave us an estimated time they could begin work and was right on time. They took the time to protect the surrounding area and move patio furniture, etc. out of the way while they removed the old roof. It took them 2 1/2 days to strip two layers of shingles, replace underlayment where needed and put on the new roof. As we expected, it turned out the roof needed more of the plywood underlayment replaced than originally quoted in the estimate, but Michael us gave the additional sheets at a discounted price. After all was done, they cleaned up thoroughly. I highly recommend McFall Builders for any roofing needs. They give you quality products at a reasonable price and do a super job installing them.

4/7 I called, got an answering machine. I left my name, phone number, description of problem ( a large branch fell on roof and punctured a hole thru it. Having water marks coming thru ceiling and wall.) Need help ASAP. 4/8 3:15pm. No call from roofer. I called them. She said that 'Oh, she remembered the name but there was no phone number left'. I left a phone number unless your machine cut me off. I tell her the information again. Then she says that they are scheduling repairs 3 weeks out. I said that I have water coming thru the ceiling and down the wall. She says, well that's the best we can do. I said that I would call another roofer. She said okay. Not very good office help. No offer to send someone out to check the damage. No offer to schedule an estimate. No offer to do ANYTHING!!!

Dear [removed member name], It is unfortunate that we were not able to work with you to take care of your roofing needs. The first message that you left got cut off without recording your phone number. Our office staff is very careful to provide complete messages with phone numbers if they are included with the voice messages. Water intrusion can be a very frustrating experience. We would love to promise that we could come out immediately and cover the roof, but our roofing crews are engaged with re-roof work that prevents us from taking on emergency repair work at this time. As our office staff explained, all of our repair work is three weeks out. The offer to schedule an estimate would have come after you approved of our three week repair timeline. We try not to turn away any work and it is our desire to help each customer who comes our way, but sometime we are not able to get to your job as quickly as you need the work performed. We wish you all the best with your home repairs. Sincerely, Jason McFall, President

We called several roofers, as we wanted a major leak fixed quickly. McFall immediately called us back, came out the same day. We had a quote by the end of the day and the next day he was here with a crew. They got it done quickly and efficiently. Can't really compare their prices, due to lack of responsiveness of other roofers. But I believe that being quick to respond has it's price and we were willing to pay that.

An estimator named Anthony was supposed to be at my house at 2pm. He showed up at 1:30 without calling. I was not available at that time, so he jumped over our locked gate and took the liberty of walking around our house. I was quite surprised to see him at my front door instead of waiting at the gate, like other professionals do. If you expect to be early, a customer should be called to see if they are available. A locked gate, means "keep out" not jump over! He took a quick look at the proposed roof repair and did no measuring of the pitch nor the length/width of the structure. I asked about possibly using metal roofing, to which he stated that was the best way to go. He left, promising an estimate the next day. It's been over a week now with no response, which turns out very lucky for us. I had two other roofers look at the roof, and they actually measured the pitch and dimensions and advised that metal roofing would leak in this application. Both said the pitch on the roof would only support one type of roofing. I am so glad that I had other companies come out. Based on Angie's list reviews, you would think this company is top notch. It's not. If you've had them work on your roof, look for issues down the road, it may just be a temp job. And for those companies who send "estimators" out in the field; please stop wasting a customer's time, sending people out that have no intention of doing their job. I value my time immensely. I feel cheated when someone unprofessional wastes it. It seems like the business owner has no idea that his estimators are just driving around on his dime.

Dear [member name removed, First of all, I am so sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with our company. Anthony arrived at your home early because your home is approximately 40 minutes from our office and since he had not been to your home before, he gave himself plenty of time to get to your home so that he would not be late. He did call you when he arrived, but you did not answer and he thought maybe you were outside and he wanted to save you a trip down your very long driveway. We do all of our roof measurements using a satellite imaging program. We find it provides accurate dimensions without the estimator having to climb onto your roof. We have an extremely high success rate with metal roof installations and take the necessary precautions so that our roofs do not leak. We do provide a warranty on our work, but find that we do not have to spend a lot of time on warranty work because we do the job right the first time. I am sorry that you did not receive an estimate in a timely manner. We arrived early to your appointment because we value your time and do not want to waste it either. Our business owners are aware of the schedules of all of our team members and value Anthony as a vital member of our team. Thank you for your feedback. Sincerely, Jason McFall, President

All of the staff was helpful and professional. If we saw any changes we would like, they addressed it immediately. Since they do more remodels they we will ever see, they made a lot of suggestions that they thought would make the kitchen more ergonomic and useable for us. They paid great attention to detail, draped plastic sheets to minimize the dust and cleaned up their workspace every day before they left. I would use them again in a heartbeat and we kinda miss not chatting with all of them every day during the project.
Description of Work: The kitchen remodel went very well.

They used architectural shingles and got me a wind mitigation for discounting my home insurance. Color came out great! We were hindered by weather, but these guys came through and did a great job! I would highly recommend them to anyone.

McFall roofing did a fine job on our house. Michael and Anthony were very professional, as were the members of their roofing crew. I was very satisfied with the quality of their work and would not hesitate to use them again.

I can strongly recommend McFall Roofing Company for all your roofing needs. I got 5 estimates including McFall's and I can say that Michael McFall and his foreman Anthony were the most professional and detail oriented of all the company's that gave me roof replacement estimates. Michael and Anthony took the time to go over and explain all my roofing options. They never seemed rushed or made me feel dumb because of my questions. They were also very good listeners and always willing to go the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied. McFall's staff and workers were very courteous, conscientious and hard working! One other important point that I would like to make is McFalls prices were right in line with the competition while at the same time offering outstanding service and products. I had one very small aesthetic issue with a place on the roof that I noticed 2 months after the installation, I called Michael and they fixed the spot with in a few days. Michael McFall and his foreman Anthony told me that they had a strong desire to be "The Premier Roofing Company" in Gainesville instead of following the pack and being only as good as the other guys. It's really nice to know that there are still a few company's out there that put their customers first and back up their words with actions. Based on my experience I believe that McFall Roofing is indeed "The Premier Roofing Company" in Gainesville. These guys are great!

I spoke with receptionist 10/17/13 informed her of my problem and she said I'll let someone know and they'll call you,. Quite a few days later the owner called, was very nice and apologetic saying he's been very busy so he suggested he come out following Tue 10/22/13 at 3pm however, he never showed and never called. It was raining around that time for about 1 hour however, I still think someone should of had the courtesy to reschedule. My time is just as valuable as anyone's so if you don't call me and communicate with me then I cross you off my list as a provider of future services 10/28/13 .I received a call from Anthony who was VERY APOLOGETIC about forgetting to call me last week in regards to our appointment at 3pm and made another appointment for the following day. He showed up on time and fixed the leak around my skylight and a few loose screws at no cost to me. I was very surprised but, pleased and for this I will call them again in the future as I'm almost positive after speaking with Anthony in depth that I will be needing a more thorough look under my roof to see why the screws are coming loose. Thank you McFall for coming through for me.

We were very pleased with McFall Builders. Anthony and Michael and all of the members of their crew were very professional and delivered on all that they promised. The existing roof was in much worse shape than anticipated, but they were not phased. They showed up every day on time with a large crew and worked throughout the day.. They cleaned up the worksite each day before leaving as well as tarping the roof to protect it from the elements at night. We found them on Angie's list and chose them from among several bids. We would highly recommend their service.

The main impetus for undertaking this home improvement project was solving the challenge of our great room, which was consistently 2-4 degrees warmer than other rooms in our house. We contacted McFall Builders, who had previously remodeled our bathrooms, for advice, and a possible solution. Jason proposed installing a radiant heat barrier to help mitigate the problem. I was skeptical of the recommendation, but desperate for a solution. After investigating radiant heat technology, we scheduled a second meeting with Jason and Michael to outline the scope of the entire project, and request a bid. The radiant heat barrier solution was a success. Since the installation, the great room is considerably cooler, and much more functional. And as a bonus we have noticed a reduction in our monthly GRU energy bill. Count me as a satisfied believer. Reroofing was done in a timely manner, using quality materials. A certified roof inspection was conducted at the completion of the project which resulted in a $350. a year discount from our insurance provider. In conclusion, we have worked with McFall Builders on multiple home improvement projects, and strongly recommend their expertise and services. Their work is outstanding, with a high level of quality and attention to detail. They are professional, punctual, hard working, and provide excellent quality for the cost. Most important, both McFall home improvement projects were completed on time, and on budget.
Description of Work: The project included replacing rotten exterior siding, exterior house painting, new gutter installation, installation of a radiant heat barrier in the great room, and reroofing of the house.

Every effort was made to minimize the impact of the renovation project. Plastic tarps were installed to trap construction dust, and floor covering was provided to prevent carpet damage throughout the construction traffic areas of the house. Their subcontractors were courteous, and displayed a high quality in their workmanship. McFall Builders were great to work with, from initial design, through construction and completion of the project. Their work was outstanding, with a high level of quality and attention to detail. The finished project was on time, on budget, and exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: McFall Builders was contracted to oversee the remodeling of our master and guest bathrooms. Jason McFall provided valuable insight and recommendations for utilizing existing space; giving the bathrooms functionality with an updated contemporary appeal. The master bathroom was gutted and replaced with new plumbing fixtures; new cabinets; granite countertops; new floor tile; as well as other amenities. The focal point of the master bathroom was the instillation of a new tiled glass shower. The project also included plastering walls in two additional rooms, and retiling an existing countertop in our great room.

I found the estimate to be more specific than other roofer's. The estimate was higher than others but I had the feeling that it was more transparent. It was. Michael McFall was professional and considerate. His crew was, as well, and punctual and VERY HARD WORKING! They cleaned up daily and kept me updated. The roof looks GREAT!
