No estimates, No call...F
Description of Work: Called to get an estimate to get a bid for 2 roofs (one on main house and one on a cottage at the same property) and replace the windows through out the main house. No small job! They had a guy come out, just happened to be at the same time we had another company out for a window estimate. The guy went around on his own and measured and so forth. We told him a little about what we wanted as far as roofs and windows, but he really didn't ask much about what we wanted and took off. I waited a week for the estimates. Nothing. Called and got a message center and the guy on the other end said they'd call me the next day. No call. No estimates. Very unprofessional!!

Overall it was a very positive experience using Gainesville Restoration. They were extremely professional and I would definitely recommend them. They did everything we asked and more in order to get us back into our home by the holidays. Most refreshing was that if Chris Pickering said it would be done, it was done--and done correctly. Dependable, reliable, and professional--all words I would use to describe this company.
Description of Work: Our home was struck by lightning in August of 2012 and burned. Gainesville Restoration repaired the fire and water damage incurred as a result of the lightning/fire. Over 3/4 of our roof trusses were removed and replaced due to fire damage and the interior of the home was gutted to the stud walls. Gainesville Restoration did a fantastic job getting our home back to it's pre-fire condition. Our home was basically a shell as a result of the fire damage. Gainesville Restoration repaired the home (interior--walls, ceiling, wood and tile floors, trim, cabinets, countertops, fireplace, kitchen, laundry room, built-in bookshelves, appliances, doors...everything you can think of. Exterior--roof--trusses, shingles, skylights--siding, paint, gutters, soffits and more.) All done to meet or exceed our expectations!

The response time was good and time it took from start to finish was very reasonable as well. We could not be happier with the professionalism of the contractor or quality of the work. The new roof has increased the visual appearance of our 1980's house
Description of Work: A small leak had occurred around the chimney at some point in the past but there had been no evidence inside the house. In the process of repainting the house wood rot was discovered which led to the a discovering the leak. In the end we decided to re-roof the entire house as well as repairing the chimney surround and exterior siding below. Mold had developed within the wall and the insulation needed replacement as well. Gainesville restoration took care off all the problems and dealt with the mold problem also. We know have a nice new roof with architectural style 30 year shingles with a 50 year warranty and 100% warranty regarding the mold problem.

Gainesville Restoration had rebuilt our home after a major fire and we were very pleased with the work so hiring them to reroof our lake cottage in Melrose was an easy decision. We discovered a leak after a recent storm that had damaged part of the living room wall. The roof had reached the end of its life so we decided to completely rebuild the roof. The work involved replacing a couple of sheets of roof decking new underlayment and new shingles. There was also repair needed to the damaged wall which involved replacing some drywall and refinishing with plaster and paint. All of the work was done within a very reasonable time frame. The yard was cleaned of debris and you cannot even tell were the wall repair took place. When we were getting the estimate for the job we were told of a new extended warranty on GAF roofing because Gainesville Restoration is now certified by GAF as a Master Elite Certified Roofing Contractor as being very knowledgable, professional and reliable and this certification is apparently rare among roofing companies. The extended warranty takes the 30 year warranty out to 50 years for material and labor for just a couple of hundred dollars more for our size roof and in Florida this is a great relief. I only wish that this certification and warranty had been available when we rebuilt our main home. Once again we are very satisfied with the professionalism, timeline and cost that Gainesville Restoration provided our family. There is only one problem, my wife now wants to remodel the kitchen and bathroom of the cottage.
Description of Work: New roof installed with some roof decking replaced. Repaired some minor water damage and treat for any possible mold or mildew issues.

The folks at Gainesville Restoration did a great job and we could not be happier. There is not one sign of the damage and absolutely no odor. The fit and finish is far better than what the original contractor performed and we could not be happier with the upgrades and new addition which was fairly priced. We were thinking that it would take at least six months for the work to be completed and were very please with four and half months that it actually took. I know the local codes inspector and he did not have one criticism of the work as it progressed. Also, our electricity bill is about 15% lower than we would have expected just by the minor upgrade to the AC/Heat unit so I can only guess that the insulation is superior to the original too. The insurance adjuster must have been satisfied with the price as the project was negotiated and work started within a month and demolition beginning before the contracts were even signed. I have found very few remnants of the construction activity after the job was completed. If we ever need or desire work again we will be calling Gainesville Restoration.
Description of Work: We had an attic fire that gutted our home and Gainesville Restoration was recommended by our insurance adjuster. I called my real-estate agent to see if she had any information about them, she said that they did good work. Our house had to be stripped to the wall studs and floor slab due to the extensive damage. Gainesville Restoration worked with my insurance adjuster freeing our time to deal with life. Once the insurance company signed off on the job it took approximately four and a half months to rebuild our home and it is in better condition than when the original builder finished the house in '01. There is no indication of the extensive work that was done. We also, out of our pocket, upgraded the kitchen, bathrooms, roofing, HVAC and wiring for computers, cable etc. and added some additional space in the form of a large finished porch. The work included demolition or the remaining roof and ceiling, removal of all drywall and flooring, windows, doors, appliances and fixtures.

Company owner was extremely rude (several times) and charged me $500 for about 10 minutes worth of work. His estimate was much higher than other providers, but he refused to reimburse any of the initial money paid.
Description of Work: Put one piece of plastic (not large) on roof and said he would provide estimate later. Charged $500 for that, then gave estimate only after learning what insurance company would pay, much higher than other providers.

The man said that a sweep had been done. We hired another company to come and do a sweep and they found about 250 nails, including 20 found on a porch roof. They also found tar paper and other roofing materials that he claimed to have cleaned up. The second company stated that they felt a sweep had not actually been done at all. More importantly he did not seal the ceiling and it was open to the attic, exposing appliance and insulating dust, and leaving up minimally supported ceiling materials which eventually collapsed into the house risking injury and death. It seemed like he wanted to be fired so he could make some quick money on the contract. He provided minimal written estimates and those that he gave seemed extremely unreasonable according to other contractors who worked on the issues. After we fired Gainesville Restoration for poor service as well as putting our home and bodies at risk, some of Chris Pickering's first words were, "You'd better speak to a lawyer!" There was nothing like saying they were sorry and would make it up to us. After months while engaging two lawyers at our expense, the case was finally resolved. This was even as difficult as dealing with the contracting work itself. Complaints: 1.After using more reputable contractors to finish our home and on speaking to the adjuster we discovered that .Chris Pickering's contract was actually just a work order and gave little detailed information on what was to be done, and what individual costs were. 2. Insurance adjuster said the work was very slow compared to similar jobs. 3. Roof work was done by 3 people with periodic no shows and most often by one person 4.Our adjuster and lawyers stated that Mr. Pickering gave a lifetime of the shingles that did not exist. 5.We were billed for a roof warranty that was never delivered. 6.Post roofing family members stepped on five nails- three which penetrated shoes. (Thank god we were not barefoot as we often are during the summer!)We found at least 20 left on the roof. (We hired another roofing company to clean up and they found over 2 hundred nails and other metal roofing materials. 7. The most serious offense was leaving damaged and wet drywall ceiling and lighting fixtures up. They crashed down at once in the kitchen. This 200 lb of material could have severely injured or killed. Prior to this a workman had suggested sealing the large hole to the attic, but Mr. Pickering said not to. A covering may have at least minimized the strength of the ceiling collapse and eliminated the daily problem of falling insulation and loss of conditioned air. 8.Chris Pickering gave us an estimate of $3 K for some extra electrical work while the electrician said he was going to do for $1,200. This would have given GR an over 50% profit rather than the contracted 20%. 9. After firing GR we asked for a bill for work completed so that we could continue repairs with moneys left. Our continuing repairs were delayed for weeks as Mr. Pickering took at least two weeks to present a bill. 10. GR's first bill was very vague and charged a $ 4 K penalty for firing him, as well as for materials, work, and a warranty that were never done. 11. With the use of lawyers for months a settlement was made that we thought was still overcharging, but would not be made up for by further use of lawyers. 12. After all of this we found from neighbors, friends, relatives, lawyers and some business people, that GR had a poor reputation. The very competent man we hired to complete the job said that he had worked for GR for two weeks and found their work sloppy, their management disorganized, their ethics poor, and their wages low. Despite a family to feed he did not want to be associated with such an organization. Lesson- check Angie's list and other reliable references prior to work!

Overall, they restored our property to better than it was originally. I was very surprised at how quickly they responded and repaired our home. My wife and I learned a lot of how devastating fire damage can really be for the entire house even though it started in the kitchen and mostly isolated to this area but smoked up the whole house. It took approximately 2 weeks to make all the repairs and a total of 4 weeks for the entire project included installation of new cabinets and countertops. There program to make selections and get the project started was very satisfactory. They started on our project the next day after they came out to asesss the damage. Thanks for your work on this project!
Description of Work: We used Gainesville Restoration to repair the house from Smoke damage from a kitchen stove fire, when my wife left a pan on the stove. The smoke filled our entire house that is a 4 bedroom 2 bath. I could not believe the damage from the soot that traveled thru the entire house. We used this company before to do a remodeling job and they performed well, so we called them to work with our insurance company to help us clean the house, replace the appliances, cabinets, and flooring ( carpet ) in the house.

On time and budget. I was very satisfied with the quality of the materials used and the craftsmanship was excellent. They did all the work in house which made me feel very comfortable knowing who was going to be working at the house when my husband and I were not at home. The workers showed up at 7 am when they said they would, when we were leaving for work. That is an A plus in my book!
Description of Work: We just remodeled our kitchen and bath in our 1987 home in Gainesville. We were long overdue and replaced all the kitchen cabinets and countertops and tiled the floors. Also replaced the vanities in both bathrooms and the sink faucets and mirrors. They took off the wallpaper and textured the walls and painted. What a difference! They provided us with several ideas and 3-d layouts at no charge to choose from. As far as choices in cabinets they had some of the best we have seen even compared to the big box stores. I think the main reason we chose this company was their pricing, selection, and quality of craftsmanship. Turned out the project was on time and budget!

We contracted Gainesville Restoration & Construction to do our roof at the end of July. Six weeks later the roof is still not done. We paid 50 percent of the estimate up front (9,000). We have already taken a number of days out of work waiting for the workers to come. This morning we were told that they would definitely come between 8:30 and 9 - and, once again, we were betrayed. We offered to pay for insulation (that was done) and asked for the refund of our retainer. We are now threatened with the cancelation fee of 3400 dollars (20% of the total estimate). I firmly believe that the estimate (17,000 for roof, insulation and installation of a new vent in the kitchen) was highly exaggerated in the first place. I would NOT RECOMMEND the company to anyone - not only because of the way that they have lied to us over these past six weeks but also because of the nastiness and the threats deployed once I called to tell them that we no longer wanted their service.
Description of Work: Gainesville Restoration & Construction was contracted to to do the roof, add insulation and minor remodeling (duct work for kitchen vent+vent installation). After six weeks, no work has been performed apart from adding insulation in the attic.

Due to the weather/rain, we did get backed up on our work. However it was actually 3 - 1/2 weeks that it took us to get the work started. We communicated this with the homeowner each week giving them an update. We do have a cancellation clause that states if we set up the job and or do any work there is a penalty. I am sorry you were disappointed with the contract, however we do adhere to our contract specifications and you did agree to the contract by signing it.

We tarped the roof, and also inspected roof on the weekend. Our policy is a minimum of $500 for this service after hours or on the weekend. Our contract clearly stated there would be a $500 fee for this service that was signed by the homeowner.
