Bruce Garren Design & Drafting

Bruce Garren came highly recommended to me by someone who had used him to produce a set of plans for a new home. Bruce produced a set of building plans for me for a 584 sf addition to my home: two bedrooms and a laundry room. The design part of this was NOT straightforward. The existing home was built in 1979 by a local architect for himself and it is an unusual home. Many of the construction elements in the existing home were the kind used in commercial construction (the most challenging being an 8" concrete slab roof with parapets. Using the same techniques and material was cost prohibitive and just out of the question. The challenge was to do this addition without those, but with the end result being that it looked like it had always been part of the house. I can't say enough good things about my experience with Bruce. He was tremendously generous with his time. We has at least three meetings that went four hours. I was extremely happy with the drawings when he delivered them to me, but that was nothing compared to the appreciation I had for his work by the end of the project. There was virtually no conflict between me and building contractor because what he owed me was what was in the drawings. And EVERYTHING was in those drawings. I think my contractor avoided conflicts with his subs for the same reason. They bid the job based on the drawings and, if it was in there, they were committed to that. My contractor mentioned a number of times over the course of the project that these were some of the best plans he'd ever worked with. For the time he put in with me and quality of the work, to say this was a good value would be an understatement. This was worth more than he charged me. This was the smartest money I spent on a very expensive project.
