After contacting Lowes and Home Depot, I called Culligan for an estimate for a water softener system for our house. Dan was the sales rep that showed my wife and I the water softener info as well as the reverse osmosis option. We were surprised at the high cost for the system because the units available through big box stores and the internet were 1/3 to 1/2 the price. We told him we would be in touch because of other estimates that we expected would allow us to compare. Lowes was paid a $35.00 fee[refundable with purchase] and they contacted me once and seemed to know little or nothing about water softeners but would be in touch for a home visit and estimate... it never happened! I contacted Lowes install people after the Culligan unit was installed and complained about the lack of follow up[20 days] and got my refund of $35.00 back. Home Depot floor sales person said to go on-line because he knew nothing about the systems. The end result was contracting with the local Culligan group for the water softener/R/O system. The install people were prompt and courteous and completed the install in one day. The only hicccup was the electrical outlet the the system was connected to was on a light switch [my fault], and they had to return to connect to a new outlet they installed. Overall, excellent job but more expensive than I would have liked to pay. It all boils down to having to pay more for what used to be standard and professional work by most installers. Our water is great for bathing, dish washing, and drinking ...a vast improvement from the moderately hard water from the Destin Water Users.
