A UV light was installed. We had already had one UV light installed prior to this by the same company. They then informed us that we actually needed two UV lights. Obviously someone screwed up. So we went ahead and had it installed thinking our problems with mold etc. would be over. At this point we also decided that we would not do business with them any longer because it was one problem after another. Things seemed to be ok for awhile but when we turned our air conditioner on after having it off for several months during the winter, the system was not working correctly. As time went on we had more and more issues with it not running when it should have been. We called another company to check the problem out. It turned out the second UV light was installed completely wrong and was affecting the whole system. They had to remove the light. They then quoted us a price that was less than half of what we paid Thermal Effects to install a new one. These people are unethical and apparently are not trained correctly to do their jobs.
Description of Work: Installed a UV light in the AC unit.

Like another person stated. A young man came and stated that he had never seen such a mold issue in his life and tried to sell me a new A/C unit. I had already paid for a 2 year contract for maintenance for $250 and once the technician left I called the company and told them to never come to my house again and I wanted a refund for the maintenance contract that I did not receive. They claimed they put in 2 pounds of Refrigerant in my system (I can not verify either way) and that the refrigerant cost $70 per pound plus the initial service call so they would not be returning my money. I just chalked it up as a loss and figured I could just help others stay away from this company who only wants to sell you a new unit. As a follow up to this mold issue. I called another A/C company and they said it was normal and they cleaned the coils for me. I couldn't figure out why I would need to replace a unit that appears to work well and efficiently.
Description of Work: I hired The company to come and check my A/C unit and signed up for a maintenance plan.

Young man claimed I had a mold problem that was the worse he had ever seen and I needed to replace my unit immediately or else my whole family would get sick. Instead of telling me I needed to get my working unit serviced. I paid for a 2 year maintenance plan for around $150 and he claimed that he put in 2 pounds of coolant into one of my A/C units and informed me that it was probably leaking and would need to be filled often and replaced soon. I was new to the area and had not dealt with local repair men yet so I was skeptical to part with the money to get a completely new unit. I checked the BBB website in FT myers and there were comments about this company doing the same exact thing to them. I immediately called the company and told them to never come to my house again and cancel my policy and return my money as I had already paid for the service done that day. Apparently since the technician put 2 pounds of refrigerant in my system they said they could not refund my money becuase it cost that much to put the "complimentary" amount of refrigerant into the system. Ironically 12 months later I had a reputable local A/C company come out and check my system and it was free of issues and did not need any refrigerant. My guess is that it didn't need any the first time and he never put any in. Do not deal with this company they are out to sell you an new A/C unit. I feel they would go so far as to sabotage your current unit if you let them into your home and do not follow them around every minute.
Description of Work: I called thermal effects to schedule a checkup and purchased a maintenance plan for 2 years.

The AC installation went smoothly, came on time, etc. However, later price comparison showed cost to be excessive. Unit installed did, however, reduce utility bills by about 15%. Surge protector price was also excessive, but we were not in town and could negotiate little by phone. The county inspection was hedged and dodged and required our seeking county intervention. The unit and installation did, however pass inspection. Further research found Thermal Effects had complaints filed with Better Business Bureau. In my experience, they hustle the customer, have very high prices, and are less than forthcoming. I suggest one be very knowledgeable and do much research before dealing with them.
Description of Work: I responded to $29.95 inspection/maintenance "special. Everything was fine. However, subsequent service visits showed "mold", "leaks", "coil problems", etc. They installed a new unit to replace a 6 year old one. On a follow-up, they noted a need for a surge protector, which was installed. Next visit the recommendation was for another $900+ work which I refused. They also were to schedule a county inspection of the furnace installation. .

Avoid this company. I had used them once several years back & the service man came up with all sorts of extra problems requiring extensive extra work, which I did decline.
Description of Work: I received an unsolicited phone call form a heating & air conditioning company for a service call. I told them I had a service contract with a company & I named them. I asked the caller if they were that company and she implied that they were . She scheduled a date for service. That day came & went & they didn't come, but they came the next day. When I found out that they were NOT the company I had the contract with, I sent the service man on his way. I think this company just hopes that you are not astute enough to know what's going on. It looked like an obvious unethical practice.

They did do a good job of installing the ducts and the A/C. However I felt like they spent more time selling products than doing what they were supposed to do. When they came in, we got 3 years of inspections. During the first inspection, the tech was only there for three minutes inspecting, before he tried to sell me a UV light for mold in our ducts - and the ducts had only been installed for 4 months!
Description of Work: They put in our A/C unit and later installed the new air ducts.

Mr. (member name removed) has an 8 year old system. When my Technician went out on 9/4/13 for the regular maintenance of the unit. At that time he was recommended an in place coil cleaning of the evaporator coil, sanitizing of duct system an UV light for preventive maintenance of microbial growth on evaporator coil. Mr. (member name removed) agreed to have the work done and work was completed. Our office has never heard from Mr. (member name removed) that he was unsatisfied with the work preformed or for what reason.

After the check-up, and some suggested problem repairs, I signed a service check-up contract. Stupid as I was,I only glanced at it since the Thermal Effects representative had just finished a verbal summation of what would be in the written contract. When I did review the written contract a day later, it was not consistant with the verbal sales pitch, and offered far less. The next day, I called the office, and was told that the rep. would contact me. He never did. I followed up on Sept.19th and left a message to have someone call me..No one did. Next, I wrote a letter and received no response. I wrote again. Finally, I was given a refund on the price of the contract, less a 20% "processing fee",( thirty dollars). I then wrote back, suggesting that, under the circumstances, the $30 "processing fee" was unreasonable, I requested that the "processing fee" be waived and a check written. That was on October 26th. As of today, two weeks later, I have not received the courtesy of a reply, one way or the other. I remain hopeful that a refund will appear. If it does, I will try to update these comments. 11-15-12,, Have received the check. Thank you

After careful review Thermal Effects has decided to refund the processing fee that is clearly stated in the contract. The check was mailed out on 11/6/2012. If the member has yet to receive the check please contact the office at 239-325-1247 and we will need to stop payment on the check and re-issue a new one for the $30.00. We can only apologize for the misunderstanding at this point and assure the member that we are willing to met his request.

Description of Work: I scheduled a $29.99 service. They said I had a Freon leak but it would be better for me to buy a $150.00 maintenance contract that would also cover the cost of the Freon. They spent a great deal of time trying to sell me a replacement system. I decided to get additional estimates. I joined Angies list and scheduled an "A" rated company to come out. They told me that my system was fine and then patiently showed me how none of the service work I had paid Thermal Effects to do was ever done. They also showed me their gauges and explained how it was highly unlikely that I had ever had Freon leak. I called their manager to give them an opportunity to make things right and they did nothing.

It went very well. I was very pleased with Thermal Effects LLC
Description of Work: I had gotten a flyer in the mail for a promotion of $29.95. What the promotion entitled for was they come and do a complete tune up on my A/C unit. They found a couple of things wrong with the A/C unit and that they recommend that I sign up for there Maintenance Contract, which I did. I was very pleased how well the tech came and presented himself. I would differently recommend Thermal Effects to family and friends.

Description of Work: Thermal Effects came out to do a free estimate and recommended having the ducts cleaned and also quoted me a good price so i allowed them to return to do the work. I was really impressed with the outcome and how much better the air flow came thru the house. The techincans were very respectful and professional, and also respectful of my belongings and my house. so i will return as a customer and i definitely recommend this to friends and family.

Started out well, quick response, but a maintenance call turned into an aggressive sales call. Had the unit rechecked by another professional technician who found that there was no issue with the freon pressure and that the unit worked properly.
Description of Work: Responded to their Aircondition Maintenance letter special for new customers from this "Family Owned and Operated Company". Got an appointment the next day and the rep called and showed up early. Made a good impression and said that he would complete all the items listed on the letter. I did not have the time to watch him continuously, and was surprised how quickly he was done. Was informed that our smaller unit was low on freon. He could try to find a replacement coil unit, but the only real solution would be a complete new unit. He quoted two separate models, one with a FPL credit at prices that looked reasonable, also called back his boss to get a better price and to confirm that a coil replacement would cost $2,000 including their labor, almost half of a completely new unit fully installed with 10 year warranty and 2 year service contract at no extra cost. It became very clear that his mission was to get my agreement on a new system and was very eager and pushy to have it installed the same afternoon or the next morning. After I asked to postpone the installation to the following week, he later called back to get an earlier installation time and his boss even offered a price reduction if they could do it early the following morning. This eagerness and salesmanship made me suspicious and I checked the BBB rating (it is F) and two Angie's list reviews and the rest is history.

Description of Work: Thermal Effects promised a $29.95 AC cleaning service, but I soon discovered that it was just an excuse to try to sell additional services. I was suckered into buying freon, which I probably didn't need and subjected to a high-pressure effort to get me to sign up for annual maintenance. This was two years ago, at which time, I was told that my AC unit was in "poor" condition and needed extensive emergency repair. Thank goodness, I declined additional service. For the past two years, I have had no difficulty with the AC at all.

Despite the one F rating from an Angie's List customer, I decided to try them because they offered a $29.95 special for new customers only. I thought if we watched him carefully we would know if we got the services promised in his flyer. The technician, Mark introduced himself as the GM of the company. I told him I had seen an unfavorable report on Angie's List about his company. He didn't know what Angie's List was. Anyway he did go around & inspect the A/C equipment & change the filters. He provided a plethora of maintenance advice, which was helpful. However he did discover some mildew in the condenser unit & spent a fair amount of time qxplaining the consequences of allowing unchecked mold to grow. He recommended vacuuming all duct work in my 3 yr old home, pulling the A/C motor & cleaning all parts and installing an air cleaner & purifier for $2250.00. I think he did a satisfactory job for my $29.95, but tried a little too hard to sell additional services. He was not too pushy, but did talk about coming back after a few months & finding moldy carpet & unhealthy air.

This company did not clean our air handler, but did replace the filter. Please see the comments above for our overall experience.
Description of Work: We contracted with Thermal Effects LLC to clean and check our air conditioning system. They spent five minutes replacing a filter and over an hour trying to sell us a new air conditioning system. They showed us cell phone photos of the interior of an air handler, which they claimed was ours, filled with "microbial growth." Told us it was a health hazard and that our duct work was "crushed in" in areas and leaking. They tried to sell us a new air conditioning system and new duct work. They quoted us $14,000 for all, then when they saw the shock on our faces, called their boss who then authorized a "special" for us for $11,587. We were in shock. We had just moved to Marco Island from NH and had little experience with air conditioning systems in warm, moist climates. Luckily, we overcame our shock and told them we would get back to them. We immediately contacted three other companies, one from Angie's List, and had them come to our home to give us "second opinions." They all agreed that our system was old and would eventually need replacing, but not now. Also all the other companies said that all Florida air conditioning systems have some degree of mold and mildew. Thank goodness we got several other opinions before spending all that money on a new system and duct work. We also got quotes for many thousands of dollars less for a new system and no one recommended replacing the duct work! Bottom line, always get a "second opinion", especially if you have a strong feeling that you are being "ripped off."
