Disaster!!
Description of Work: Had an addition put on and added another a/c unit. We were permitted for a 4 ton and they installed a 5 ton making us fail inspection not only due to size but pieces were not hooked up and left hanging in attic. When called on discrepancy they changed the serial numbers and not the unit. Had owner come over and address workmanship and was told right in front of our contractor how difficult it is to get this kind of help and all his employees are on drugs! Investigated owner and found his mug shot in Florida public records for sale of drugs and a served prison term. They have done nothing to remedy the a/c problems, unit not working properly. I will never allow these people back in my house after finding out about drug issues. We are out $10,000.

Charged too much and after much time and 14 phone calls to company and 1 very rude employee we managed to get a small refund once the services of Angie's list and the Better Business Bureau were involved

I will not recommend Service Star Cooling & Heating, Inc had to do some duct work to try and fix the issues, they never did fix it completely. They can do everything better starting from the owner. We had a terrible time to get in touch with the owner because of issues we were having. He refused to call us ad wouldn't answer our phone calls. We ended up dealing with their office manager. The house wasn't cooling, we contacted them to say we had a problem. They came back and said the problem was our duct work, it needed to be upgraded so we upgraded it with them. First time they did any duct work, there was no change. The second time, it cooled it better but not what we would expect with a brand new high efficiency unit. We had their multiple service people out here constantly for 6 months and never once did any of them not find an issue that needed to be addressed. Every time they came out, there was an issue that they found. The inspector came out and their initial load calculation that they put in was too small and manipulate calculations which they did. I tell everybody that I know not to use them.

I found them on Angie's List. They gave us an astronomical quote on the repair and we said that that was too high, they said that we could do it off the books for $600 and when my husband said that we don't keep that cash around, he said that can we go get it and at that point we said that we weren't interested. I will never, ever, ever call them again. I'm totally not happy with them at all. They were late for the appointment.
Description of Work: We were having issues with our air conditioning drain pan so I asked Service Star Cooling & Heating, Inc. to come out and look at that and give us an estimate on a new unit.

The service that they performed was fine but because we had work done, we were promised 3 years of free service. Now the company doesn't seem to remember who we are. When I call for service, they can never find any record of us in their system.

Horrible.
Description of Work: We contracted Service Star to perform Preventative Maintenance Service for units at an upscale condominium complex. They we late daily, unorganized, did not show up when expected. They caused more problems than solutions. They did not file permits for new installs. I would not recommend under any circumsatnces.

I feel like I was charged $29.50 for a high pressure and misleading sales pitch. They certainly did not clean anything and stopped checking as soon as they thought they could sell me a new system with upgrades. They left upset when I did not commit to buying a new system. I would not use them again.
Description of Work: I was pulled into the "we'll be in your area and will give you a good deal for a clean and check" phone call. The service tech's arrived as schedule the following day. Within ten minutes or less they called me to garage and advised me that I needed a new A/C system. Tech one told me that he had checked the compressor and that the freon level was less than half what it should be and that the pressue reading were very low. He stated there must be a leak and therefore the system needed to be replaced. Second Tech had opened the airhandler and showed me the coils. He stated they were dirty, leaking and shot. He advised the coils needed to immediately be replaced and that running the system was just a waste of money. He then went on to tell me all the things wrong with the system from the way it was hung to the way the ducts were sealed. (He never looked at the ducts and I am aware the codes have changed in the last eight years. The second tech began to high pressure me into committing to the purchase a new system. He even pulled out his caluator and told me how little the system and certain upgrades would cost when financed over time. I finally convice him I was going to get a second opinion before I committed to anything. Second and third opinion companies both reported no problem with the freon or pressure levels. Given the high cost of freon and the fact that tech one returned to the service truck immediately after giving me his report I doubt he added freon. The companies did advise the ciols were dirty and would need to be replaced in the next year. The second opinion tech reported that he found the compressor left open(whatever that means) and I found the piece that seals where the filter is changed lying on the floor after Service Star left.

They came and inspected the comeplet system, we had called complaining of excess dust and sir flow not being consistant thru out the house expecially the back bedroom and master bath and closet. they checked whole system found some problems with the duct work and found that the compressor was drawing high amps. They found alot of microb growth in the air handle. We decided to go with a more efficient system and eliminate the freon system and install a uv light to help with mold. The service techs were very knowlegable and efficient and worked very deligently until the job was complete. Everyone worked with us to explain what and why the made the recommendations that they did. There was no highpressure sales pitch. We are very satisfied with the results are home feels much more comfortable and the dust is now down to normal.
Description of Work: Replace some duct work and installed uv light system, duct sanitized and installed new split system 3.5 ton 16 seerair conditioning unit with w/10 kw heat strip.

Received an unsolicted call from Service Star saying that they had a tech in our area and were running a $29.95 special on an A/C check that would include a new filter, freon refill if needed, etc. Tech arrived promptly and performed service. After the service he informed us that 2 coils were going bad and that there was a freon leak. He said that the R-22 freon was phased out and he could not refill the system. Well, that ended up being a lie since R-22 freon refills can be done on existing a/c systems until 2020. Said the coils could be replaced for $2,200 for parts, plus service, so he recommended that we get a new unit and he could even install it tomorrow. That made me suspicious, especially since we were having no issues with the system and it is only 5 1/2 years old. The estimate he gave us for the unit was $5,800 and they would deduct $500 for the FPL rebate (they would keep the rebate) and explained we qualified for up to $300 tax credit for 2011. Well, after I found out about the freon "lie," I have a new company coming to inspect tomorrow for a second opinion. Additionally, I found out the manufacturer of the unit he recommended is offering a $1,000 rebate!!! No mention of this, of course. On top of this, he charged us $39.95 instead of the $29.95 special, but I was so upset about our AC system needing to be replaced that I didn't even realize we'd been overcharged until after he left. Even if the system does need to be replaced, I will NOT use Service Star: 1. Lied about not being able to refill R-22 freon since it was "banned." 2. Not mentioning or inlcuding the manufacturer's rebate in the estimate. 3. Overcharging us for the maintenance call. Buyer beware!

Although we recommend Puron for energy and environmental effiiciency, it is our policy to still work on, refill, and service all Freon systems. I think the price was good. They checked out my old one and it was leaky a lot of cold air, it was older so I went ahead and got a new one. Everything went fine, except I am still waiting for my thermostat. I would use them in the future to have something serviced, but not for installation.

Removal of old units and the installation of the new units and new thermostat took less than 2 hrs. The installers were very professional and courteous and definitely knew their job. They cleaned up after they were finished and left no trace that they were even there. I would recommend Service Star to my friends.
