Description of Work: We were told by another a/c contractor we needed a new a/c unit. Kobie fixed a fairly minor issue with our old unit. They were ethical when they didn't have to be. The technician was here promptly and did not leave until the a/c was working.

Kobie Kooling has educated and efficient service technicians and respond promptly. After evaluating our problem with the aC running hot and advising us on the status of the system. We agreed to replace the AC unit. Services were performed to prepare for the ordering a installation of new unit. We then the next day decided to cancel for personal financial reasons. The AC is gratefully still running cold.
Description of Work: Technician responded promptly on a very hot day and evaluated the problem and replaced the capicator. He also performed services to prepare for a new unit.

I discussed buying a new unit with the tech, and he provided me with options. I had to leave before they were finished with the work. I got news soon after that I had cancer, so I decided to not purchase the new unit, since I'd be needing my money elsewhere. They added an extra $718 to my bill, without an explanation or invoice detailing what that cost was for. I offered to pay $350/month, which they declined. I sold my car to pay the bill, but they keep charging me for interest. He has added lawyers fees on top of that and is now threatening to take my home.
Description of Work: I paid $1700.00 in advance for them to put in a compressor on my A/C unit.

THE ISSUE WAS HANDLED PROFESSIONALLY, AND BECAUSE [REMOVED MEMBER NAME] CHOSE TO BE DIFFICULT AND USED FALSE DEFENCES IT WAS DRAGGED OUT AND THE LEGAL EXPENCES ADDED UP. They damaged my property in the process by somehow knocking ceiling attic access loose, which eventually fell out of the ceiling completely. I informed Kobie the next day and they did NOT come back out to fix it immediately. They thought it was OK to leave me with a big hole in ceiling for 2 weeks until they came to finish other planned work. I cancelled the additional work because of their failure to respect and repair my property. They insisted on keeping my DEPOSIT on the additional scheduled work, even though that work was not done, because this is their policy. I subsequently cancelled my deposit check and then they hired a lawyer and threatened me with a civil suit if I did not pay them immediately. In the end, I had to pay the deposit plus legal fees (total over $2800) for work that was NEVER DONE. In addition, Kobie never repaired the hole they left in my ceiling.
Description of Work: Kobie came to my house to service AC units and provide estimate for new unit and possible duct revision. They performed "routine" service on my 3 units and removed a suction line drier on one unit. They required a deposit of 1/3 the total estimate amount to schedule the work which included one new unit and over 2500$ of duct work revision they assured me was needed.

THIS MEMBER WAS A CUSTOMER WHO ORDERED WORK AND THEN STOPPED PAYMENT ON HIS CHECK HALF WAY THROUGH THE JOB WHEN HE LEARNED HIS EX WIFE WAS INVOLVED WITH ANOTHER PERSON. HE DECIDED TO ATTACK THE PERSON'S WORKPLACE ON A PERSONAL ISSUE AND AS A MEDICAL DOCTOR HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE PROFESSIONAL. I WAS ONLY CHARGED FOR THE SERVICE CALL; WHICH I WAS TOLD ABOUT PRIOR TO THEM COMING OUT. TECH DID NOT TRY TO TELL ME I NEEDED THIS OR THAT JUST TO CHARGE ME FOR SOMETHING. We have had nothing but trouble with the air handled leaking water in the house. I have inches of water! They've come out and suggested that the air vent had to be built up higher, and then suggested that we needed new vents throughout the house. Always something that would cost more money! I have used Coastal Cooling, from Angie's List to fix this problem.They have discovered that the pipe from the cooling unit was angled into the air handler instead of away from it. Simple fix!

THIS COMPLAINT REGARDING THE WATER ISSUE IS PARTIALLY CORRECT IN THAT IT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE OVER THE PAST YEAR. WHEN SHE PURCHASED THIS SYSTEM WE SUGGESTED REPEATEDLY TO HAVE A MANUAL D DUCT EVALUATION PERFORMED ON THE SYSTEM BECAUSE OF THE HIGH STATIC PRESSURE. HIGH STATIC PRESSURE CAN AND WILL CAUSE A DRAINAGE ISSUE AND IN THIS CASE, THERE WERE SEVERAL OCCAISIONS WHERE THE ONLY ISSUE WAS THE STATIC PRESSURE. I SPOKE WITH HER PERSONALLY ON JANUARY 19, 201O AND WE DISCUSSED THE ISSUE AT LENGTH. THE SECOND OPINION FIRM IS A FINE COMPANY BUT AFTER THE DISCUSSION AND A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF THIS ISSUE I BELEIVED SHE UNDERSTOOD WHAT HAPPENED AND WHY. THIS ISSUE WAS COMPLICATED BY DIRTY FILTERS AND THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE DRAIN PIPE AFTER THE REPEATED SERVICE CALLS WHERE THIS PIPE WAS CLEARED OUT MECHANICALLY. THE STATIC PRESSURE ISSUE IS SOMETHING SHE WAS TOLD ABOUT UP FRONT AND SIGNED TWO SEPARATE WAIVERS STATING SHE DID NOT WANT THE MANUAL D EEVALUATION AND SHE UNDERSTOOD THAT WE ALWAYS RECOMMEND THE ELEVALUATION AND NEW DUCT WORK ON AN INSTALLATION. SHE CHANGED HER EQUIPMENT FROM LOW SEER TO VERY HIGH SEER AND THE DUCT WORK WAS NOT PROPERLY DESIGNED WHEN THE HOUSE WAS BUILT SO SHE MADE AN IMPORTANT ISSUE A CRITICAL ISSUE. WE DID RESPOND REPEATELY TO HER REQUESTS AND WE DID DISCOUNT OR NO CHARGE HER FOR THE SERVICE CALLS EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE DIAGNOSTED PRIOR TO THE UNIT PURCHASE. UNFORTUNATELY IN THIS INDUSTRY IT IS NOT YET MANDATORY TO HAVE THE DUCT WORK TESTED FOR COMPATIBILITY WITH THE NEW SYSTEM BUT I BELIEVE THAT IS CHANGING REAL SOON. SHE WAS A WONDERFUL LADY, BUT WE JUST COULDNT CONVINCE HER THAT A STATIC PRESSURE ISSUE WILL NOT GO AWAY UNTIL IT IS CORRECTED. IN HER CASE, THE STATIC PRESSURE ISSUE IS THE PROBLEM, THE OCCAISIONAL WATER LEAK WAS A SYMPTOM. IF THE OTHER COMPANY WAS CORRECT, THE UNIT WOULD LEAK WATER EVERY DAY, AND EVERY TIME IT CYCLED ON. IN HER CASE IT WAS OCCASIONAL, AND ONLY WHEN THE FILTER AND THE STATIC PRESSURE FROM THE DUCT SYSTEM COMBINED TO REACH ITS TOLERENCE WHERE IT WOULD PULL BACK ON THE DRAIN WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO HOLD THE EXITING WATER WHCIH THEN OVERFLOWED INTERNALLY. ALWAYS REMEMBER, THE DUCT WORK INSTALLED ON YOUR HOME IS LIKELY NOT COMPATIBLE WITH A NEW SYSTEM AND SHOULD BE TESTED BY A PROFESSIONAL USING A COMPUTER CAD PROGRAM. DONT GUESS, VERIFY.

Was the work done or not? Is this a scam working among the servicemen? Is this a bait and switch operation encouraged by the contractor. I don't know, but I wouldn't trust this company again.
Description of Work: We signed a 1 year service contract with 2 inspections for $159.00 in the spring of 2008. We were pleased with the work done and all was routine according to the serviceman. A different serviceman at the fall inspection told us we needed major work to come up to code. We had them do it. A month later we needed a minor problem to be checked. Another serviceman came out and after taking care of the minor problem said we needed the exact same major work that had supposedly(?) just been done.

this customer seems to be complaining that Kobie Koolling performed work, and then one month later claimed the work had to be repeated. She also claims "was the work done or not?". On January 19, 2009 the member contracted to replace the copper lines in between the two air conditioning systems. On Febuary 24, 2009 the member personally signed the completion invoice after our mechanics were at her home for more than 6 1/2 hours. The work she order was performed, and she was there to witness it personally. One month later she had routine preventive service performed and there is absolutely no negative comments or readings on her system reports at all. In her complaint here she claims the service man siad "we needed the exact same major work we supposedly just had" yet there is no indication the service mechanic found anything wrong other than some rust issue with a drain pan. She actually called for service that day due to a water drip and while the mechanic was there he performed her routine service. The photos on file and the signature are the member's so she was present for the three hours the mechanic was there on 3-24-3009 and the bill was $zero. The member received excellent promt service as indicated in her grading. She was sent a NATE Certified Mechanic with more than 25 years of professional experience and 16 years with Kobie Kooling. She watched the contracted work to completion on 2-24-2009 and makes a claim that one month later, with two invoice reports that indicate no trouble at all, that our mechanic tried a "bait and switch". There is nothing to indicate this and she never called, or complained about it at all. I cant consider this a complaint and the member completely failed to follow our dispute process that we agreed to in writing as part of our preventive maintenance. I cant say what the trouble is, but its clear to me the mechanic performed correctly, and the customer appears angry at something she is not willing to share. Fred Koobie believes he knows all and does not want to listen to the customer. They did a study of the condition of my A/C system and the final report was useless. I had to hire another company to do it right. They are out for the money and want to charge you for a phone call. I purchased an annual maintenance contract from them for two properties and I will not let them get near my A/C systems now. I forfeited the amount I paid for the contracts rather than let them do anything on my systems.

They were indeed customers of our that were referred to us as you can see in his contact description. The member's personal attacks on me stem from a legal civil case # 10-SC-002276 in which the member wanted Kobie Kooling Inc to investigate their house and HVAC system because they were going to sue their builder over some pretty serious issues including a very poor installation performed by a contractor who admitted that he installed the system wrong because the builder told him to do it. Kobie Kooling was hired and engaged by the member and through many e-mail transmission the member decided to have a MANUAL J & D performed by one our professional designers. While at his home, the member was not present but his wife was. She did not pay the invoice that was due the day of the site visit claiming "Ted will take care of that. " A second and third personal visit ended much the same way. The member refused to pay because he wanted changes in the report. The first changes were minor and we complied. He still did not pay the original design fee. The next set of changes he wanted were unethical and designed to implicate liability to another. The member ASKED US TO COMMIT FRAUD AND WE SAID NO. Because of this he refused to pay his original design fee even after being delivered the work product. HE FLAT OUT STOLE SERVICES FROM OUR FIRM AND REFUSED TO PAY UNLESS WE LIED FOR HIM IN A CIVIL ACTION AGAINST HIS BUILDER. This case was handled by the small claims court of Lee County and the Angie's List venue is inappropriate. He took advantage of the fact that he can lash out to an advocate and most people never read the complete story. The member made this a personal attack because of my level of education and certification was superior to those he was angry at, and those who failed the first time. We do employ some very talented people and I have lead by example in that I keep my education as up to date as possible. Most people in my trade fail to further their field of expertise unless they are compelled to. Our philosophy is to provide the best product by providing the best trained people. As he said in his contact profile, HE WAS LEAD TO US BECAUSE OF OUR REPUTATION. He was fired as a customer for failing to pay his bill. Fred Kobie

I had to get security to get the man off my property.
Description of Work: A man came out to inspect the A/C unit, and said the current contract was up and wanted to know if I wanted to renew the contract. I said I did not. He then said that maybe I did not want him to perform the inspection which I already paid for. I said that would be OK if they would refund my money.

You can see in this complaint there are several sarcastic and personal attacks on people that this man has never met. He was a very happy customer for four years prior to his bad experience with one man. The technician he had an issue with in March of 2008 was terminated based on the member's complaint and we learned later that week the man was dealing with the death of a close family member and appologized for any problem. The member asked to speak with me and four times I called to talk with him to no avail. We did appologize for his bad experience with the former employee and regretfully explained that he was terminated. I have not heard from the member since that time and he never returned our calls. To date, he has never requested anything from us or to cancell his policy . He was a completely happy customer with over 10 preventive maintenance visits but sadly the "one bad apple" spoiled the whole bunch in his eyes. I can think of nothing else I can do to make him happy, but I certainly tried. Fred Kobie
