J&D installed the HVAC system in a builder spec home that we purchased. They have been coming twice per year to perform maintenance since we purchased the home in 2014. Maintenance report from 11/1/19 details maintenance that was performed and "working fine at this time" with no mention at all of potential concerns. March 13, 2020 the AC completely stops working. House is 78 so we called for service and J&D sent 2 techs to the home. We were told we need a completely new system and that our warranty expired in October. They then sent 2 more employees to quote new system of approximately $7000 and as our condensers are on a balcony 20+ feet high they said they would need to dismantle the old one and bring it down piece by piece and do same with new condenser (and then rebuild it) as there was no way to get a lift in our driveway to access the balcony. We got a second quote and hired the other company as they brought a lift and did not need to dismantle new equipment and then put it back together in order to install. After the new unit was installed, we were informed that some of our dampers were not working properly. As J&D had been our maintenance company, we decided to put in a service request for the existing dampers. We were told by the Service Manager that the Owner Jim had put a no service directive for our home if it in any way related to the new system including service requests for an existing component. I had a lengthy conversation with the service manager about this directive and then he followed up with "you are from NY and that it is a red flag and how long have you been here" which left me stunned as J&D had no concerns about this when they sent 4 employees to quote $7000 of new install. I am a Florida resident and I spend the summer in Buffalo NY (not the tri state area). Seems to me that the operation manager was trying to find a reason to back the no service directive by the owner using Covid-19. A few hours later Danielle from J&D called me to inform me that the owner and service manager spoke and while they appreciate me contacting them for service that they are not interested in the job I requested and to keep them in mind for maintenance of the new unit when it is due. NOT INTERESTED??? I am a contract customer with J&D and was requesting service on an existing component. It appears that if you are a J&D customer and do not accept quotes provided by them for new systems that they lack the professionalism and foresight to want to even keep a maintenance customer. I am now questioning the quality of maintenance service provided through the years as the system that required replacement was only 6 years old and often J&D sent techs with ladders that weren't high enough or that were afraid of heights. I find myself wondering if the units were maintained as their service reports indicate they were. Stay away from J&D. The only thing that adds up here is the $7000 I spend on a new AC system. Unprofessional management. Retaliation for not buying the new system from them. RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE

Description of Work: I was a customer since 2009, and while I was at my place in Ft. Myers earlier this month, I discovered that the service agreement I entered into with J&D, and paid for in full, had not been honored. The agreement was to service our unit 2x's per year (approx April and Oct). In December of this year (2016) a leak was discovered coming from the AC closet. It was then that we discovered then that our unit had not been serviced since October 2015. I called J & D and was told that in April they contacted our rental company to obtain a key. When that call was not returned, nothing else was done on J&D's end for more than a year. They did not even call me, the person who paid the bill. To say the least, I am extremely disappointed with J&D and our rental company. I am in the business of property management and the lack of receiving a return phone call IS NOT a reason not to follow up and complete a paid-for service. Fortunately, the leak was discovered right after it occurred before major damage could occur. After determining that J&D had not met their end of the service agreement, I hired another contractor to service our unit and perform future maintenance. On top of J&D's lack of service, I was told that $20 would be held back from my refund of the service contract that was not honored. Way to add insult to injury.

They were able to come out the next day after being called. We were out of town but they were able to take care of the compromised condensor. We were happy with the experience. They come out once a year to inspect the ducts and replace filters.

Description of Work: J&D was asked to provide a second estimate on a new air condition system for a recently purchased bank owned home purchase. I had previously used J&D for a similar home purchase in Lehigh Acres, Fl and was pleased with the service and the price. J&D had also provided a service call on the Lehigh Acres unit on a Sunday. Although there was a premiun price for the weekend service the tech drove the distance to Lehigh and diagnosed the problem. Parts were covered under the warranty. On my current home J&D was the second bidder. J&D's bid was approximately $1000 less than a previous company's similar Carrier full air conditioning system (see my review of Wiegold One Hour ). The team that installed the system provided several addition items without a fee / charge.
