the staff were nice the sub contractors were good but it appeared that there where too many jobs in progress and not enough staff to handle them. they would show up on job for a couple of days then we would not see them for a week. if you want the work done with any kind of serious progress you may want to look around.

Contract was signed in June and is now December and is still not complete. They redid the pool tile 3 times the coping twice and the pavers 3 times. Screen is still not complete and have no hood on my outdoor kitchen. Owner says he will call me but never does. The pool finally looks OK and kitchen is fine if it had a hood which is required in CapeCoral. Now looking for someone to complete

Response from Island Construction LLC
We have tried to make the homeowner happy and have replaced anything he was unhappy with 3 or 4 times each. I have met with and talked to him on the phone a lot of times so I don't understand what he is saying about me never calling back? The hood was at his home and ready to be installed but the homeowner didn't like the size of it (he thought it was to big) so we thought we did the right thing by taking it back (which it is still in my warehouse) and we gave the homeowner a credit for the cost so he could find one he liked more. The homeowner was happy at one time but once he found out the other hoods would cost more then we charge he wanted us to pay the difference. I told him if he wants to buy a different hood he is welcome to and we would final out our project. He told me if I didn't do what he said he would go online to as many websites as he could and bad mouth us until we did what he said! We are happy to do what we can for our customers but we don't like blackmail! We are very happy to be done working for this customer!

The above is how it went. However, I am still waiting for parts to fix a hurricane door and now hurricane season is here and I will need to reinforce the door should a hurricane hit my area. I guess in the end I wish this company had bought in the good ole USA
Description of Work: Installed hurricane glass to enclosure to enclose a lanai that I had off the kitchen. The enclosure made the kitchen much bigger and added more room to the condo. The building inspector inspected the job and said it was done very well. I agreed. However, the company that they deal with for glass and enclosure material moved to Columbia, South America. Since the install my glass door was hit with a rock from the landscapers which of course did not break but did crack. The glass had to come from Columbia and it took close to 5-6 months to get here and when it did get here it was the wrong size. I got the second piece of glass here in the states but needed a piece of the door to properly install. Anything ordered from the company in Columbia waits for a full container before they will ship from there to Miami. As for the construction and the workmanship I have no complaints. However, once installed and if you have a problem it will probably take 6 mos. to one year before new parts come in which is very frustrating.

We are sorry that (removed member name) had to endure this time frame for waiting on the glass replacement because of the manufacturing company. We did do the glass replacement at no cost to the homeowner (a rock cracking the glass is not covered by warranty). We did offer (removed member name) a USA made product but the cost for the project would have been $5k more. After the headaches that this manufacturer created we now deal with a manufacturing company that Island has had a relationship with sense we have opened. They opened a window division that is based in Ft. Myers, FL and has helped are time frames to get materials. Once again we are sorry that this happened to (removed member name) and we thank her for the understanding. With the changing of manufacturing companies we haven't had to deal with these problems of late.

Plans drafted and submitted by Island Construction (IC) for permit were inaccurate (width of family room off by more than a foot and windows were positioned in wrong places). IC then attempted to charge me an additional $995.00 to effect a workaround solution so that the job could procede.. (I got another contractor to do the necessary work for $350.00). IC assigned the contract to a subcontractor who, as I later found out, was unlicensed and whose primary business was painting, cleaning and landscaping. No supervision was provided by Island Construction while the work was ongoing and the job was badly botched:: a. Windows grossly out of square -- did not pass initial inspection b. Gap of approximately 1/4 " left between baseboard and drywall of interior wall. Drywall raised and uneven in serveral places. c. Bumps, blotches and other irregualrities left in stucco of exterior wall. Re-stuccoed area unsightly and plainly stood out from surrounding surface rather than blending in as promised. d. A gouge of 30" was made in the Dura-Brte finish of the pool deck where heavy equipment had be placed. Efforts to remedy the above were only partially successful and I am stuck with the poor results. Complaints to DBPR and local permitting authority concerning the quality of work, use of unlicensed contractor and shabby business practices of Island Construction are pending.
Description of Work: Contract called for cutting openings for two windows in family room, installing prefab window sets and leaving surrounding surfaces in a paint-ready condition.

This homeowner brought unlicensed contractors onto our permitted project and had work done which we tried to tell him he cannot do in Florida. We at Island tried to come to Mr. (member name removed) 's house to see the bad work the homeowner is talking about and even though he was home all 3 time he would not let us in to see work and slammed the door in are face each time. He has still not paid in full and we feel he was trying to get out of paying us.

It was a total disaster. It was a horrible situation. They were very misleading. They gave us something that we really didn't want and we had signed this contract. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone based on our experience. It was terrible. They quoted us a price and then gave us something different. They came when they said they were going to come but they didn't do what they said they were going to do.
Description of Work: ISLAND CONSTRUCTION LLC remodeled our bathroom. I went to their showroom and picked out the cabinet door that I wanted and they wrote it down. I brought the cabinet door home to pick out everything else. I got the tile from the tile people and the granite from the granite people. We got everything ready and it was all set to go. They brought the cabinetry in and it was not the same cabinetry that I ordered and brought home. The doors of the cabinets opened the wrong direction. The sink unit was all wrong and just horrible. They had to redo the cabinets. Everything got messed up. I don't know what they were thinking. The smell of the material was so bad that I couldn't handle it anymore and had to have another contractor come out and take it out and build me another cabinet.

This is the first we at Island have heard of this. All we did at this project was furnish and installed a vanity cabinet, a pantry cabinet, and a frame less glass door system. We are not sure with what went wrong but we have contacted have Mrs. (member name removed) about the project and are meeting with them when they come back in town in a couple weeks (this project is over 2 years old). They tell us they still have the cabinets in the bathroom. We at Island did what was purchased and if we have any problems we need to know so we can address the issues. We are sorry this happened, but we did not know of issues and the homeowner signed a completion form after the products went in saying they are satisfied with the work and the product.

Island Construction visited to give us an estimate. They started out very high and continuously lowered it. We thought we had a good deal and signed. That is the last we saw of them. The work was all subcontracted. We got other estimates (too late) and found that we had contracted for about 30% more than other estimates. The subcontractor did a fair job but the sod about 2 feet each side of the drive was torn out to provide for changing the grade of the drive. When the job was finished, the sod was not replaced, nor was the grade smoothed with fill dirt. I called Island to complain and they said "We'll talk to the subcontractor and see what they will do." They brought about a half a cubic yard of fill and dumped it on the driveway. I had to buy another yard, fill the edges, buy sod and install the fill dirt and sod myself. I only saw an employee of Island one time, that is when they gave me the estimate. The subcontractor even did the collection for them. If anyone else deals with them, you need to get additional estimates before you sign as wall as determine who will actually do the work. I have the impression that they subcontract most of their work. I would not deal with them again.

A salesman representing Island Construction Company visited us in mid-April to see if there were any construction or maintenance needs we had for the house. Another salesman visited us on April 24th and we decided then to proceed with the screen and door enclosure. He told us they had a book of screen doors for us to choose from as we stated we did not really want a typical metal one that everyone else had. He said they would be back to measure the opening and install the screen and door within the next two or three weeks. Apparently the salesman took two weeks to even turn in the order to the installers, as the person who took the measurements said the ticket was dated May 6th (?). We explained to him we were told he would have various options for us to choose from for a door. He then showed us a one page sheet with six styles of doors on it and said that was all they offered. The person at the office we talked to then said that it would now be a few more weeks while the door was ordered and delivered. We were very clear we did not like the choices available. At this point we expressed dissatisfaction with what was occurring but did not want to start all over again. But no one throughout this whole experience would pay attention when we tried to explain what kind of door we wanted and didn t want. Two weeks later we called to find out the status of our screen and door as this was taking way too long for a simple and minor construction job. We were told the door was not in yet. At this time we told their representative we wanted our money back. She passed our concern on to the owner, who called back later that day (found out late it was not really the owner). He explained the salesman was fired and several other reasons that the job wasn t started yet. Against our better judgment, we decided to continue waiting for them to finish the job. An installer finally showed up Friday, June 6 to install the screen and door. He told us it was his last day with the company and he didn t know how far he would get. He then looked the job over and decided he did not have the right materials based on the other persons measurements. So he left for about two hours to get more materials. We left the house for a while and he was gone when we came back. The job was far from finished. The following Monday (June 9) another person showed up to finish the job. He stated the first person did not install the frame correctly and so he tore it out and pretty much started over again. He did a very nice job with the frame and screen installation. However, he did install the door inside out, so the part that is supposed to be visible to the visitors was on the inside and their view is of the spline and backside of the door. We did not notice this until someone pointed it out to us a few days later. We will not use them again and do not recommend this company.
Description of Work: Installed a screened-in front entrance and screen door.
