I picked Handy Vets because I like that Craig Blume, owner, and Craig Cory work with Veterans. It was one the best renovation experiences we ever had! Craig C. is a true gentleman and he did a wonderful job! Craig is very knowledgeable and he is experienced in many fields, i.e. tiles, plumbing, electricity, etc. Plus, he is creative, discreet and very clean. He and Al made a great team working in our home. We could not be happier with the results of our new beautiful bathroom! Thank you!

Gutters were wrong color. I told the gutter man that, but he showed me his order (sub-contracted) and it listed white, not brown. Anyway, high for so-called "Handyman" services. Asked for another estimate on other work, even higher, and when I politely said so, he gave me a VERY sarcastic answer, in my opinion.

He was okay. He did not do much work, he did not have to. He just changed the plug for us. He was very nice. My husband did all the arranging. I think his price of $100 is about average for an electrician. He did it and it works so I would recommend him again. They came right away.

Craig Croy was in charge of our project. We advised him of our goal & with his ideas the job was completed beyond our expectations. His attention to detail & great personality made him extremely easy to work with. We trusted him in our home when we were unable to be here, he assured us that he would make sure our dogs wouldn't get out as he went in/out front door to work. I will definitely use Handy Vets again. My husband is a Veteran & we appreciated using a company that only hires Veterans & trains them. Their motto "We've served our country, now let us serve you." The fact that they were willing to give their life for you is reason enough for you to at least call them for quote and meet them. We guarantee you will not regret giving them a try.

Unfortunately, this is my first negative review from me for a company I picked from Angies list. As a former service member I was more than happy to use a company that advertises as helping vets. I needed handyman services to address several minor issues that came up on a house inspection as part of the house selling process. The house sale closing date is looming so I needed these issues addressed in a timely manner ( I had to move out of state so couldn't do them myself) to keep everything on track and expressed this when I first contacted the company. After contacting the company on a Friday I was told he could check the house and give me an estimate on Monday. On Tuesday I got an e mail saying he would be there Thursday but finally arrived on Friday. Unfortunately he was unable to get into the house on Friday due to a malfunctioning garage door (obviously not their fault) but promised he would come back Saturday morning to get the estimate done. When I called to get an update on Monday I found he STILL had still not gone to the house but was on his way. He finally did come on Monday (10 days after my initial call) and I got an estimate for the work later that day but it was full of discrepancies, with many items on my "need repair" list either missing or not consistent with the actual repair needed. I sent an email with my concerns and a request to clarify the discrepancies. I even expressed my desire to continue working with his company based on our mutual military service. I still haven't heard back from him . No e mail or even a phone call to discuss my concerns which I would expect when a potential customer specifically expresses an interest to continue working with them despite some issues that need to be ironed out. I finally threw in the towel and went with a company that gave me a quote in 6 hours and will start the work tomorrow. There appear to be a lot of good reviews so I'm not sure what happened this time but my experience with this company was simply not good.

We did, eventually, get the fence installed by a licensed fencing contractor. It was the cheapest estimate we had and it cost nearly twice as much as the quote we had from Handy Vets. Really, if he couldn't do the job, why did he add the stress of all those delays to moving? If we had known in October, when we first contacted him, we could have had the fence by Thanksgiving, as we had planned. As it was, we didn't get a fence in until the end of February.
Description of Work: The provider was hired to fence in a portion of our yard to keep our dogs safe. We explained, when we first contacted them in early October 2015, that we wouldn't be permanently moving down until late December 2015 or early January 2016, but that we would be there for Thanksgiving week and would like to have the fence built then. He took all of our information, we sent him plot plans where we wanted the fence and he told us he would go have a look and write up an estimate. In late October, when I called to find out where he was in the process, he told us that he hadn't gone there and needed to be reminded of who we were. We called again in mid-November and he was very busy, so we made an appointment for him to come out and have a look at Thanksgiving time. When we met, he said it would be no problem to get the job done by January 15th (pushing our move back). He just needed to send us an estimate and let us know when he would be doing the fence. In the week befor Christmas, we left several messages and he finally called us back the following week. It was only then that that he told us he was "having trouble getting a permit" from the county. He complained a bit, but said he might have a workaround. He first proposed that he have someone else pull the permit and he would do the work. After another week to 10 days, he gave us the name of someone else who would do the work for us. Turns out they are not licensed to do fences in Charlotte County. We sent the new contractor (someone we had previously contact and got no call back) all the information and plot plan and -- surprise -- got no response. We decided to move down without the fence and deal with it in person. We found that every fencing contractor we called had at least a six week wait list.

It went fantastic. They were very punctual and arrived a bit early, actually. We are always a little upset when we do not receive an "A" review. In this case, we do feel we were not given a fair shake by the reviewer. As he explained in his review, we are a good distance (65+ miles) away from the client's residence, and we explained he would be better served finding a local drywall repair service. We did provide a quotation for him, stating we would do the repair, but the travel time was a significant part of our price structure. We are pleased he was able to find someone local to do the small repair for reasonable price. It is hard for us to understand how we could receive an average review for providing a "free" estimate.

Went great. Did al tasks quickly and efficiently. The house looks better than it has in years.
Description of Work: My house is 100 years old. My insurance company wanted some "wood rot" problems taken care of on the upper and lower eaves. Instead of "spot repairs" did entrie eaves. Our initial contact with him was in October of 2015. After explaining what we wanted and our location as well as our timeline, he said he could do this simple job. We told him that we were currently living more than 1000 miles away from our new house, but would be down at the new house for Thanksgiving week. Once I had exact dates, we set an appointment for him to look at the lot. He came a bit earlier than the appointed time, took measurements and told us he would get an estimate to us within a couple of days. I reminded him then, and every subsequent time we spoke that the fence HAD to be in by January 15, 2016 or we could not move down with our dogs as we intended. In mid-December, he finally returned my many calls and let us know that he was upset with the Charlotte County Zoning office for all the hoops they were making him jump through to get a permit, but that he would continue to try and would get back to us within a few days. More than a week later, I called him and asked him to detail the problem so I could call the Zoning office and try to straighten it out. That was when he told me he wasn't licensed to do fencing in Charlotte County and that he was trying to find someone who was to pull the permit so he could do the work. He said he would text me the name and number of the guy and I could call him myself to explain our urgency. No text ever came. In the week after Christmas, my husband called Craig several times before finally speaking to him and Craig gave him the number of another guy who could do the work. We sent that person(someone we had called way back in October, who had never gotten back to us), sent him plot plans with the fence line drawn in. After another week, that guy gave us an estimate of $3,600. We postponed our move and came down for a visit at the end of January specifically to deal with the fence issue. Everyone we contacted has told us that, because of the tourist season, they are very busy and it will take six to eight weeks to get the job done. They wish we would have contacted them in November or December, because it would have been quicker. The extimates I got were all in the $2500 range, and two salesmen to whom I told my tale (without mentioning Craig's name) told me that what he was initially going to do with the permits is illegal and one even asked if the guy was Craig Ferguson. It's a shame because we really liked Craig, we liked the idea behind his company and we still think he is a nice man. If only he had told us up front that he is not allowed to do fencing in Charlotte County, we would have considered hiring him for some of the many jobs we will have on our fixer-upper.

We always strive to accommodate every opportunity to serve the client to the best of our ability. In this case we failed.. Our ability to perform specific types of work depends on the local, state and federal regulations and codes. We work with several companies in many areas to assist clients with very specific projects needs. Chain link fence installation is one of these areas. After reviewing the project with our management team, it was determined Handy-Vets was not a proper fit for the needs of the client. We contacted the local community development office and asked for a recommendation. We passed this recommendation on the the clients with the intent of having them contacted by the bussiness recommended. At this point, we closed our proposal file. We certainly regret any inconvenience we caused by attempting to have qualified contractors contact them. It will be noted on our internal performance review to be more diligent with post follow-up on future projects with which are no longer affiliated. This type of poor review helps us to be a better company overall. We appreciate when a client (or potential client) lets us know of a short comming.
We first contacted Craig at Handy Vets seeking a bid, construction start and completion dates. Although he was not the lowest bid, it was very close, Handy Vets start time and completion promise made the deal. Also, being a veteran myself I'm always looking for ways to help train and employ those who have served. We ( Clair & I ) back in October 2015 decided on a 12 x20 deck for our hot tub and table and chairs, construction went well and as promised, Adam, the lead carpenter and small crew were very professional and did a great job, very happy. But soon later found ourselves wishing that we would of gone a little larger to accommodate all of her (Clair) stuff, that was a must have if "We" were to be completely happy with "Our" new deck and hot tub. So the first part of January 2016, we phoned Craig at Handy Vets and explained our problem. Craig being a married man himself totally understood the problem I was facing. The following week Adam was back to construct a small addition to the deck and construct a ramp allowing some of our guests, wheel chair access. Adam was true to form, professional, clean and neat work area. Adam also being married, totally understood how important this deck was to "My" happiness. A few days later the deck and ramp was completed and she (Clair) has her deck, ramp, hot tub, table & chairs and most of all, her must have stuff. Thanks guys you all did a very fine job, and most of all she (Clair) is VERY HAPPY.

I contacted Handy Vets to complete a small project in a commercial property. The property is a high traffic location and the approximate 3' crack in the drywall ceiling was very obvious. The repair was completed this morning, and tomorrow we will return for the paint application. I am so pleased with the quality of the repair - it doesn't even look like the crack was there. I appreciate the quality, and love that we supported vets at the same time. Highly recommended!

I found Handy Vets on Angie's list and asked if pocket doors were something they could do. My husband and I had tried to do the job ourselves, but it proved too difficult. We had been assured that they had men who could do the job and a week later they sent a man out to our houseWe provided the replacement trolleys, but Greg had the tools needed to get the job done. I attended an event last weekend where I got into an Angie's List discussion with a couple regular reviewers. I was disappointed to hear that they only submit "positive" reviews, both claiming they are apprehensive to submit negative reviews for a business who knows their name and address. It's so unfortunate that users of AL are only getting half the story on many of these businesses. Here's my story, in all its F-rated glory: I contacted Craig to schedule a small painting job. First contact went fine. He didn't tell me somebody else would be showing up for the bid, but that is what happened. A "painter" came who didn't have a clue how to repair drywall - I had a small area that needed to be patched. Apparently that's "another guy" that will call me to schedule an appointment. Um, okay. So I waited. Nobody called. Waste of my time. Fortunately I found a painter who is organized, professional, knows what he's doing, and did a great job for less money.
Description of Work: As to "what did the provider do", they quickly scheduled an appointment and then slowly wasted my time.

We are always disappointed when we let a potential client down. We have examined our records to see how this customer was not contacted in the usual manner, and to date, have not been successful in finding her in our daily scheduling. While this is not an excuse, we do go to great lenghts to make sure we respond to all estimates requests, in a timely manner. In this case, someone dropped the ball on our part. We are a company that takes our veterans and runs them through a training program to develop skills necssary for the handyman service industry. The reason we have individuals who specialize in various elements of the business is we only send "trained" technicians out on a project when they are ready to provide a quality service. We use every review, good or poor, for training purposes and are proud of our "Outstanding" Angie's List ratings.
