Value Roofing

My old tile roof was costing me about $600.00 extra in home insurance every year and the price of re-roofing was only going to get more expensive with time. I checked with the larger A rated companies on Angie's List and noticed that when things did go wrong they were often the cause of big company bureaucracy and never seemed to end well for the consumer. I decided to peruse the smaller A rated companies and found one that appealed to me. But price of course is a major factor so for my curiosity I called some of the bigger companies first to come out and give me an estimate for my 2,800 sq ft roof. The estimates were pretty much the same, $30,000.00. I knew my same model house cost a neighbor $20,000.00 a couple of years ago so I was a bit shocked. By the way, I won't mention the companies name but their salesman named Kelly wanted me to pay an extra $5,000.00 for what he called a super underlayment which would extend the standard 10 year warranty to 15. All the other company reps told me that that type of underlayment is only suitable for flat roofs and if applied to pitched roofs could cause the tiles to move and slip in the summer heat. Buyer Beware! I finally had the smaller company I had in mind come out. The gentleman who came out was a young man who was taking over the reigns of the company his father had established years ago. He gave me a quote of $19,500.00 but with a 5 year warranty. I figured that was an acceptable tradeoff. Unfortunately in my opinion the young man was a bit too laid back for my idea of how to conduct business. I often had difficulty contacting him and he never seemed to have the proper paperwork handy. I was under certain time constraints and eventually got in touch with the father who said he would straighten things out. He reviewed the contract and told me that he could not honor the price agreed upon in the contract, he would have to up it $2,000.00. I was nonplussed. I eventually agreed but soon found out that he wasn't any better in contacting me when he was supposed to which aggravated me to no end. Meanwhile my screen enclosure contractor was on hold because he couldn't commence his work until the roofer replaced rotten fascia board in the back of the house. Aware of my delemma he called me one day and said he had just run into a roofer contractor by the name of Chris Clements of Value Roofing at the county court house and he seemed like a very presentable gentleman. I gave him a call and he came out with his second in command Juan. I was very impressed by their demeanor and professional appearance. I explained my predicament to Chris and told him what I expected as far as communications and being kept informed. He assured me that that was the way he always conducted his business. I got good vibes from him and said that if he would meet or beat the $19,500.00 initial contract of the other company he had the job. Much to my surprise he didn't meet the quote he beat it by $500.00 saving me $2,500.00 and with a 10 year warranty to boot. That savings went to paying for two thirds of the screen enclosure contract. A win win for me. True to his word Chris kept me up to date through the whole process and always returned calls in a timely manner. His work crew turned out to be very professional, clean and quiet and respectful. They were all Hispanic and there was a few times when Juan wasn't around that communications were somewhat touch and go but a quick phone call solved any problems. Chris had them install 5 large air vents that no one else offered. This keeps the attic cooler and prevents air pressure from building up in case of a hurricane. Unlike some houses in my area Chris had the vents and all piping painted the same color as the setting concrete. Unexpectedly they also used an excess of setting concrete around the base of the crown tiles that gave my roof an old world Spanish charm that you only see on the more expensive homes along the inter-coastal water way. Many of my neighbors have given favorable comments about my new roof. I am a happy camper. Thanks to Chris and Value Roofing a nightmare turned into a dream.
