Complete A/C Maintenance Tune-up for $49 (1lb Freon, add solution to drain, Basic coil cleaning, and 24 point inspection). However when Chris looked at my system he wanted to quote me for a new system (very nice start). I said thanks but I am not ready to buy a new system, I just wanted the tune-up. Chris said he cannot do add solution to the drain line because he would have to cut it and if I want to clean the drain lines it would be $120. Plus he cannot do the coil cleaning because he would have to take out everything because the coils are old and corroded. Chris said he does not recommend a cleaning but just replace with a new unit. He did not show me the picture he took to show me the corroded coils. I asked him can you do anything that is on the tune-up and Chris said no but I still need to pay the price for the tune-up for the five minutes he was here. When I called his office he said a few mean things (I prefer not to repeat). I asked him to leave and he refused and I asked him again he said fine with more things (I prefer not to repeat). I talked with the install manager and he would talk with Chris he maybe having a bad day.

The a/c unit is relatively new, however it never had any maintenance, the tech said everything looks good and to have a visit every six to twelve month's to keep up. It was also mentioned that we do take care of our a/c, and change the filter. We had a great experience and just wanted to share, thank you to the wonderful folks at Universal Air and Heat.

The installers were really nice and seemed to know what they were doing we didnt have a problem with them. The problem came after. The air is not cooling as it should be and its not cooling the whole house. We have to lower the air condition more than before with the old equipment. Apparently, since they gave the wrong square footage of the house (they were wrong by 400 sq ft.) the 4 tons is not enough. We have very high ceilings, so we think there is either something wrong with the installation, the equipment or that the house needs a 5 tons. We had better air when we had the old equiptment!!. I put in a service call asking them to please come to check the air. Tina (the girl that answered the phone) stated that they could come the same day so we said perfect needless to say they never called or showed up. When i called that day thursday at night I spoke to chris told him that I had clld the office earlier and I had spoken to Tina and she had told me they were going to have someone come over and I never received a phone call from them and noone ever showed up. He said well I dont know what happened and she is not here to repremend her. He gave me another appointment and I realized right after I wasnt going to be home. I called back told him that I would take the one he said he had available (for the next day) I was a upset to say the least and he was giving me an attitude on the phone I confirmed the appointment for the next day again ,they never showed up.. When I clld the office Tina again answered she stated that Chris never changed my appointment and I had it for Monday Oct 7 noone showed up either so I have wasted 2 full days waiting for them and half of Monday. I m so sorry we picked this company to do the job. I am retired and finally was able to have some money to upgrade the air I feel so depressed and upset at the same time and then we have to go thru this nightmare. We have a brand new a/c and we are in a worse condition. We gave them a chance and look what we ended up with. I wish I could have my old equipment back.My son thought Gary was a good person so we gave them the job. i would never use this company again and I will never recommend this company, horrible, horrible, horrible a nightmare!!!
Description of Work: The salesman came gave us an estimate for a replacement a/c unit Rheem 4 tons. We liked the price eventhough we had seen some of their reviews. First when the salesman came to give us the estimate he clld the company and they told him the house had 1846 sq ft he stated that our house needed a 4 tons. Later we found out the house is 2200sq ft and the house is not cooling properly.

I hired this company to get our new house air ducts cleaned up with their vacuum brush system for a reasonable price. The appointment was set between 8 and 11 am and they finally arrived at 1pm. Once they were there, they went through the usual sales pitch of you need this and you need that, you should look for your kids health etc, etc. I ended up agreeing to get the full cleanup for $1k, including fan blower cleanup and full sanitization. I knew they were ripping me off... but I needed to feel better about my AC at the moment. So they removed the fan blower from the AC unit and took it to the patio, while another guy started cleaning the ducts with the vacuum/brush that is suppose to go in deep each of the ducts.... While supervising the work I notice the vacuum hose was all broken and all the dust/mold and whatever was not being suck by the vaccum was just falling straight to the floor thanks to a brush that didn't even rotate when it was suppose to. I immediately call their office and their manager to ask them to send a good machine to do the expensive job right. After fighting with a very unprofessional supervisor/manager and receptionist they finally agree to replace the machine. The technicians stopped their work and went to get the new machine, 2 hours later they came back to finish the job. Now it is 6pm and one of the guys is hammering my fan blower and the other is fighting to get the vacuum machine working properly... anyway to summarize the first day, the second vacuum wasn't working, they installed the fan blower back but in the process the broke the UV light inside the unit. So I ended up sleeping that night without AC. Next day they come all the way in the afternoon to replace the UV light and to do the rest of the job. I told them just to fix the light and no thank you for the rest of the service. They replace the light and charge me $350 for the fan blower clean up. They left and that same night the light they installed stopped working and the complete AC Unit comes to a hold. They send another guy the next day to fix the mess... the guy fix the UV light and the electric mistake that the other guys did in the first place and got the AC running again... he left in a hurry for me to find out that the compressor unit wasn't running... he came back and found out that the compressor unit circuit was fried. 4th day he comes with a new circuit board but couldn't make it work. This was already Saturday and he left again in a hurry and told me they will call you as someone else needs to pass by and take a look at it... I call the office in the afternoon because no one had called me back yet to find out that they will pass by on Monday to fix the board between 3pm and 6pm.... I didn't stay in the house for the entire weekend and on Monday I call another company to fix the board cause I didn't have any more patience to deal with the Universal Air & Heat managers.
Description of Work: The provider was suppose to clean our air conditioning air ducts. I ended up paying for an extra service, no clean ducts, messed up blower fan, replaced UV light and a broken compressor circuit board.

The first sales person told me to keep the same A/C that it was fine and to just have the A/C cleaned. I have two A/Cs - one that is older than the other. Someone else came out from the company and tired to sell me a new A/C. He took apart the old A/C and continued to try to sell me a new A/C. There was an ad in the newspaper that was bait and switch to a higher price. I had to put a $1000 deposit down to have a new A/C installed. When they took apart the A/C, they cleaned the coils, put a membrane around it, and sealed it with some sort of caulking. It has been 4 months since they did this. I have been wanting to put a new A/C in, but wanted to see what my electricity costs would be with my current A/C throughout the summer. I decided that I did not want a new A/C. I went outside and checked the A/C and on 3 sides there seems to be some sort of bubbling and also pink mold around the area. I called yesterday and told the lady that answered the phone that I was having problems and to have someone call me. No one called me after several hours so I called back and spoke with the same woman. I told her in detail the problem and she said someone call me about it. No one ever did so I called back again and spoke with a customer service man. I talked to him and he checked online and said that they wouldn't service it because my warranty expired and told me I would have to pay for it. The man was extremely rude, interrupted me everytime I spoke, and was very nasty to me. I told him that I thought I should be calling an attorney to have it resolved because of the mold and smell in my house. He said I was threatening him and I told him I would give him 24 hours to have a manger call and speak with me. He told me that no one needed to talk to me as he was handling the situation and that they weren't going to do anything. They are holding a $1000 on my credit card for a new A/C that I will not be having them install. I do not recommend them for any type of service or to have them install a new A/C as they do not stand behind their work.

Description of Work: Let me begin by saying BEWARE!!! They were a bit better in price than the company that I was originally going to use. The adage "You get what you pay for" applies big time in this case. I had a salesman come to my home promising me the world, but none of his promises came close to materializing. For 5500.00, I don't feel that expecting a safe, functioning air conditioning system is being unreasonable. The job was done 5/22/12, and I was told by Universal they had already applied for a permit from City of Coral Springs. Months later after no inspector from Coral Springs had come out to see the work I called the City of Coral Springs and was told no permit application was ever made for the work . Universal was forced, at that juncture, to apply for the permit. I had my city inspection today and was given a laundry list of mistakes and badly done work. I will give you only two of the most serious problems. First, he stated if I used the heating part of the air conditioner it could short out and cause a fire and second the ducts were not connected and I was air conditioning my attic but not the rooms. The installation failed badly from the city's standard or by any objective standard. This was after two phone calls and visits from Universal after my complaints that my bedrooms was not cooling. I was told it was just fine but no one went upstairs to check to see that the job was not completed so the ducts were connected. This wasn't a job that was done with some small mistakes but as the inspector stated, it was one of the worst installations he had ever seen.

As of today February 26, 2017 a lot of things have changed since this customers review. Permits are always applied for before the installation and we have implemented a patent pending photo policy for our estimators as well as our installers to ensure all our jobs are done up to code 1st time around. Our installers are required to take 33 photos and upload those photos to the customers file via iPad into our custom database solution, these photos will be immediately available for our install manager to review (in the office or on his mobile device) and approve before installers leave the job site. This ensures us A 98% pass rate on all our new unit installation inspections. We do wish we had this technology when this job was actually being performed and we do apologize for any inconvenience this caused back in 2012. I see everything was rectified efficiently shortly after this install was done and it did in fact passed final inspection.

Called on Sunday and had call returned on same day. Gentlemen called back and told about the different packages. I asked extra costs and he told me that to scrub the A/C vents is $18/vent. I had 10 vents, so that's $180 with Gold package.They said between 8-12 and showed around 9am. Two guys with tatoos, and my wife didn't trust. Main guy did talking and showed my A/C, dryer, and how they were going to suck the A/C vent lines. He wanted to charge $149 to clean A/C coils without taking condenser out. I declined. They started pulling off all the vents and tearing paint off the walls as well as spreading popcorn on the floor. They did this with about four vents. After the main A/C vent suction, the other guy started scrubbing the vents with a big shop vac with a brush apparatus that spins. He was not thorough at all. A couple times I had to point out that there was still dust on the vent walls. He went back up, but gave p***-poor effort. Two times (out of ten vents) I had to remind him that he missed a vent. While I was managing this guy, the other seemed to disappear. I couldn't tell of any work he did. I couldn't tell what he did for the dryer. He never pointed out anything with outside unit and cleaning the A/C drain line.When they were done, they left all the popcorn all over the floor. I asked about cleaning up, and he said they do not do that unless we sweep up. They left the A/C door unhinged.If I had to do again, I would have paid $50 for sucking the one vent for all the loose dust. The detail scrubbing was a waste of money, except for a lesson.

I have had a chronic problem with my Air Conditioner freezing every time I turned the temperature below 72 degrees on my 3 year old AC unit. I had to shut the unit off every day for an hour, as instructed by the AC service company I purchased it from and lost many days of work waiting for them to come out to fix it. In the past I had called another company to diagnose and fix it and $200 later was told nothing is wrong with my unit. I was thinking of replacing it and even asked Universal Air and Heat for a quote on a new Air Conditioning system in the event it was unfix-able. Recently I had used Universal Air and Heat come out to clean my ducts and was very satisfied with the quality of work so I scheduled another appointment to diagnose the problem. The service call was free and they finally FIXED my problem! After 3 years I can keep it as cool as I want without shutting it down on a daily basis! Considering I spent way more then $400 over the years by my appliance service company and another AC company to repair my unit and lost days of work. Universal Air and Heat was the ONLY AC Company that correctly diagnosed the issue and FINALLY repaired my AC at a reasonable price.

They are honest and dependable and out of all of the air conditioning companies I have used over the years (including my appliance service company that sold me a crappy AC 3 years ago) they were the only ones who had a solution. My appliance service company (PRIDE) sent numerous technicians out because I had problems with the Air Conditioner they sold me from the day it was installed and told me the only solution to my air duct leaks was to move. Universal Air and Heat sealed my ducts for less the it cost to clean them and I finally feel comfortable. It's the first time I have been able to enjoy air conditioning in my master bedroom without having to turn my AC unit to 69 degrees and shut every other vent in the apartment. They are Wonderful and I wish I had purchased my air conditioner from them. They will certainly have my replacement AC Business.They also gave me an estimate on a new unit and when I called around NO One could match their price. I highly recommend to family, friends, neighbors and everyone. They exceeded my expectations and fixed my issues.
Description of Work: I had initially called them for the $20 per vent Air Duct Cleaning but they told me it would be ill advised to use a rotobrush since I had Fiberglass Vents and it would dislodge fiberglass particles. They thoroughly cleaned my 4 vents and even went up to the roof of my 3 story condo and inspected my 3 yr. old Air Conditioning unit and suggested I get my ducts sealed since It would seal leaks in my ductwork. I had no air flow in my master bedroom.

We were having problems with humidity in the building. I personally had success with Universal H&A at my condo and another friend of mine as well in the past. We called in August for a written estimate which we paid for so that we could turn it into the landlord for approval. It took weeks to get the written estimate and even then you could not read it and it had to be redone. Our landlord gave approval and ordered the repair work. The service manager who I will not name was not responsive at all and in fact it took till the middle of September and at least two dozen emails and phone calls to get the response. Now, their technicians knew what they were doing and corrected the problem, but customer service was the worse I ever had from a service company.
Description of Work: We paid for a written estimate and eventually the replacement of our thermostats.

He even handed me each vent so that I could clean it before he replaced it. He checked my blower also and gave me an estimate. He spent 1 1/2 hours to complete the work and was very polite. I was afraid that once he came to do the work that he would try to oversell other services...but he didn't. I was impressed with this company from the minute I spoke to the polite lady, Ara, who answered the phone at Universal. I would definitely use this service again. The only thing that I had to do was clean the popcorn that was dislodged from the ceiling where the vents were located, which was minimal.

Let me preface this by saying that this company is rated A+ on the BBB and was referred to me by someone that had a good experience with them which is the one of the reasons I had them come out to give me an estimate, even though their recent ratings on Angie's List leave a lot to be desired. At the surface, this seems like a great company - in fact they were very competitively priced. However, the salesman that came out told me a number of things that contradicted some of the other salesmen I had already spoken to. At that point, I was about to throw my hands up in the air, out of frustration, and postpone changing the system...really, I was just trying to take advantage of the energy tax credit before it expired. Being completely unfamiliar with anything a/c related as I imagine many homeowners are, I contacted Rheem directly to see who was being truthful with me. It turns out the salesman from this company told me a number of lies and the system he was trying to sell me wouldn't even have been eligible for the tax credit. I?ll be honest, the salesman did sound like he knew what he was talking about so maybe he just wasn?t trained properly. So while the price was excellent compared to the other bids I received, I would have been in for a rude awakening as I wouldn?t have been eligible for the 30% reimbursement via the tax credit. Hence, I gave them a C for price since they were competitively priced, but I had to factor in that I wouldn?t have been receiving any money back from the tax credit so they would have ended up costing me more than had I chosen to go with the company with the highest estimate.

Overall, besides the fact that the serviceperson didn't speak much English (a common problem in south Florida), the service was clouded in mystery and false statements. I am not an expert in a/c maintenance or repair, so I was not aware of the deception at the time (not doing the work specified and putting in very little Freon, but charging for a lot). In fact, the statement was that the Freon was "very low" while in fact, it apparently was not since only 2 1/2 lbs were used, but the unit culd have used at least 6 lbs. I signed the order form to pay the $269.00 fee (which, as it turns out, should have ony been $79.00). After I tried to dispute the charge by calls to the company and also with my credit card, the company cited the signed form as proof that I owed the entire amount. Buyer beware of this company!
Description of Work: Universal Air & Heat advertised an a/c conditioning service for $19.00 with specific actions (1 lb free freon, 21 point analysis, flush drainline maintenance). Besides arriving at a time other than scheduled, the serviceperson, according to his own statement, put in 2 1/2 lbs of freon and as I later learned, charged for 6 lbs of freon as part of a "kit." And, other actions stated as part of the $19.00 service fee were not done although the service fee was charged. No 1 lb free of freon, No 21 point analysis, No flush drainline maintenance.

When at 5 pm and no one had arrived, he called a fourth time only to be told that our appointment had been canceled---by the company!! No one called him to tell us that they determined that we weren't due for an inspection! When he questioned why we were called in the first place, he was told someone there made a mistake! When my husband said that we did want to renew the contract, we were told someone would come the next morning, but we would be charged for the service. No consideration would be given for the time wasted waiting at home or that fact that the appointment was canceled without informing us!
Description of Work: We have had a maintenance contract for this company since 2003. They installed a new compressor and air handler and then we signed up for a two-year maintenance contract, which was renewed again in 2005. While their service has been fine when the technician arrives, we have found the office staff to be somewhat disorganized. When we've called back in the past to confirm our appointments for service, they can't find our order at first, but then they finally do. In 2005, when I called to renew our contract, they told me we didn't have a contract! Finally, when I read them the invoice number, they found it. This year, 10/2007, they called us to renew our contract before I had an opportunity to call them! We were impressed. So we scheduled the appointment and were told they would come between 12-5pm. My husband waited home for them...during the afternoon, he called three times, starting around 1:30 pm to assure that they were coming. Each time he was told that they would be here.

Universal Air & Heat did this job very quickly and efficiently. They were careful of my property and seemed to be very friendly and professional at the same time. I really trust this company. I think they are very honest and their price was very fair.
Description of Work: They installed a 3 ton central air conditioner in my 1700 square foot home. They took the old one away.

They were on time, worker was nice and the price was fair . The only thing I would have wanted them to do which evidently they don't do is vacuum up the debris that falls down from the ducts. I had to do that myself

THEY CAME OUT WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD. THEY TOLD US HOW WE COULD SAVE A LITTLE MONEY. THEY CALLED US TO CHECK ON THE DUCTS AND MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING WAS WORKING PROPERLY.
