I spoke with Ed Strobel, the owner of Sunshine Solar Services, when I was shopping around for a contractor for a photovoltaic panel installation. Since I was doing a re-roofing job, he suggested using solar roofing tiles. His was the first company in Florida to install solar roofing tiles, rather than solar panels. We decided to use PV roofing tiles, and based upon the amount of square footage on my roof, he calculated that I had room for a 14kW system. FPL offered a $2/watt rebate at the time, but the process for successfully obtaining the rebate was sort of like getting tickets from ticketmaster on the day a huge show opens. Their website was swamped the minute it opened for applications. All of the money FPL had set aside for photovoltaic systems was gone in about 4 minutes. Thanks to Ed's help in prepping me for this money grab I was successful in getting pre-approval for the rebate. PFL ultimately gave me a rebate of $20,000. The federal government gave me an additional 30% rebate. Ed was helpful in that process as well. My HOA required a special exemption for approving the photovoltaic tiles. The tiles are laid on the back of the house, and even if the HOA tried to rebuff my request, Florida state law trumps any HOA bylaws. No HOA can prevent a homeowner from installing PV panels in their home. Now, these are not PV panels, they are PV roofing tiles that are laid along side normal roofing tiles. Nonetheless we agreed that it would be better to first ask for permission and if refused, invoke state law and proceed. Ed's main engineer, Jay, came with me to the HOA meeting and helped explain the process to the HOA board members. They gave me approval immediately after a brief debate. Sunshine Solar Services worked with Graboski Roofing to install the PV roofing tiles. Ed had suggested that I get an estimate from them. He had done many projects with Graboski in the past, but said he would be happy to work with whomever I chose. The two teams worked incredibly well together. The work was outstanding and the whole roof is just beautiful. I could not be happier with the work and final resullts. I am saving a little over $200/month and the system will pay for itself in about 8 years. I highly recommend Sunshine Solar Services to anyone looking for a photovoltaic installation.

Excellent. Ed is an electrical engineer as well as contractor, and his recommendations for the critical choice of panels and inverter proved after much research to be the best for my system and roof dimensions. Installation went smoothly and on schedule, and Ed took great care to make sure the panels were correctly anchored through my Spanish S clay tile roof. Ed is also an officer with the Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy and actively works for the solar and renewable energy industry in Florida.
