Emergency Services Offered
Services we offer
Residential & commercial pool & patio refinishing, renovation & remodeling. Pool resurfacing, patio, driveway, decorative concrete coatings, pavers & travertine marble installation. Pool leak detection & repair. Pool equipment installation. Pool heating. Custom pool lighting. Natural salt chlorine systems. Complete pool service and maintenance.
The marble used to handle the water runoff from the hot tub has disintegrated and looks like swiss cheese. When I asked about it they sent a bill for $1K to replace. I questioned the fact that marble shouldn't wear out so fast and was told by Cliff that there is no warranty for man made materials. I pointed out that the pool they replaced had marble runoffs and after 15 years they hadn't worn anything like that. He said things wear out and even though it was way shorter then normal he would not go back to the manufacturer to complain and get me a new piece. During the last 3 1.2 years we have had trouble with the heating unit they put in, having them come back multiple times to help us to get it running as the controller for it is not intuitive and frankly I am not even sure if it works consistently as we have given up on it. The self cleaning vacuum died in the last couple of months, they came and took it to look at and then after we had to call them they said it was dead, not in warranty and we would have to pay another $450 to get a new one. The pump they put in also died, we were sent to another firm to get it replaced for $725. Engines on devices die but marble should not disintegrate in 3 years.
Description of Work: Cliff's installed my pool less then 3 1/2 years ago, with hot tub, heater all new tile, marcite, marble runoffs, coping, pump as well as a self cleaning vacuum.

8/28/13 Better Business Bureau of Palm Beach Customer Service Department Complaint Case#: 90220258 Consumer: William Burley Case Opened: 2013-08-19 To whom it may concern, The Facts Are That: 1. Natural stone has no warranty, expressed or implied. 2. The marble is processed, filled and honed where it is quarried 3. Every stone wears differently, especially when water flows over it for hours every day. 4. Deterioration of some fashion will almost always occur after 3 ½ years The Attempt to Satisfy the Customer: 1. Cliff gave Mr. repair options at significant discount off retail. 2. Cliff suggested Mr. secure competitive prices if he thought pricing was too high and Cliff will discuss any legitimate competitive bid if lower than ours for same repairs. 3. The customer must understand after 3 ½ years repairs are not and cannot be free. 4. Customer is free to call Cliff to discuss this issue further and possibly arrange for us to help him in other services in the future at reduced rates as a good faith gesture. My pool was 11 years old and needed to be updated. I hired Cliff's to resurface the pool, install a new light, new coping stones and some paver repairs around the pool, as well as cleaning and sealing the pavers on my patio and driveway. The quality of the work they did was very good and I'm pleased with the results. I think their pricing was reasonable, although because I perceived it to be reasonable I did minimal shopping around. The technicians that worked on the job were all professional. The service was somewhat slow, mostly based upon weather. My only real complaint was the back office's inability to proactively communicate and the manage my expectations. They said they would start the job in 2 weeks but didn't start until about 5 weeks after I signed the contract. I didn't care that much, but they didn't call me to explain delays they just delayed and waited for me to call and find out what was going on. Every time I did call they would react instead of just explaining, and that usually involved some inconvenience to me because they would send someone out with no notice. After the repairs were done I waited 4 weeks for someone to come out to clean/seal the pavers, and no one did, so I called. I called the office and once again no explanation but someone was out the next day. The office is managed by the owner's wife who seems nice enough but her disorganization creates a good bit of chaos for both customers and employees. In short, I feel like nothing would happen unless I called the office, but when they did work I was very pleased with the results. The pool looks beautiful. So I would recommend these people but be prepared to manage the office closely if you want work to get done.
Description of Work: Resurfaced and repaired pool.

DEAR ANGIE’S LIST~ I FEEL I MUST APOLOGIZE TO THIS HOMEOWNER FOR THE LESS THAN PERFECT ‘RESPONSIVENESS’ GIVEN TO HIM DURING THE COURSE OF OUR INTERACTION WITH HIM WHILE UNDER CONTRACT TO RENOVATE HIS SWIMMING POOL. THOUGH MY APOLOGY IS “SINCERE” I MUST EXPLAIN THAT THIS SUMMER SEASON WE WERE GREATLY CHALLENGED BY “MOTHER NATURE” AS WE EXPERIENCED THE RAINIEST SEASON IN SOUTH FLORIDA’S HISTORY (WE BROKE THE RECORD IN JULY!) IN AN EFFORT TO SATISFY & FULLFILL OUR COMMITMENTS TO OUR MANY WONDERFUL & APPRECIATED CUSTOMERS IT BECAME DIFFICULT AT TIMES TO DIRECTLY & REGULARLY COMMUNICATE TO ALL OUR CUSTOMERS THE DELAYS CAUSED BY THE TREMENDOUS AND CONTINUOUS RAIN WE WERE EXPERIENCING. WE DID CALL TO EXPLAIN DELAYS BUT NOT AS OFTEN OR DILIGENTLY AS WE COULD HAVE HAD AND FOR THAT I AM SORRY! AS A FINAL NOTE, THOUGH I ALSO APPRECIATE MR. CARY’S GOOD POSITIVE COMMENTS AND “GRADES” I PERSONALLY ALSO TAKE OFFENSE REGARDING HIS “OPINION” ABOUT HOW I MANAGE OUR FRONT OFFICE AS WE ARE ALL “HUMANS” (NICE ONES-AS HE DESCRIBED IN HIS LETTER TO YOU) AND HIS ONE EXPERIENCE DOES NOT QUANITFY SUCH A NEGATIVE LABEL…AS THE “PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING… OR IN THIS CASE….THE POOL!” AS MR CARY SAID: “POOL LOOKS BEAUTIFUL”!!!! THANK YOU & REGARDS~ D’ALMA (“MRS. CLIFF”)

Our pool was 28 years old with the original marcite. Cliff’s promptly responded to our request for an estimate for Diamond Brite. All of the staff that worked on our pool did a good job. We also hired Cliff’s to do the fire up period for the first 30 days. Steve did a good job of cleaning the pool and balancing the chemicals.

We had kool deck around our pool for 28 years which had cracked in a few places. Cliff’s promptly responded to our request for an estimate and assured us that using a textured spraydeck with random scorelines would cover and conceal the previous cracks, which it has. However after watching the work of Oscar, who was meticulous in re-designing our patio, we believe the great job has as much to do with the skill of the person doing the job as it has to do with the product, if not more so. We were very happy with the work that Oscar did.

PHONE CALL WITH THE OWNER: Cliff did call me and was NOT interested in creating a customer resolution and quite frankly wasn't a polite person. He was hostile from the beginning. I asked him in the first 3 minutes of our conversation if he was upset with me and told him that I wanted to resolve this issue amicable. He said he was on speaker phone and that’s why he seemed like he was shouting. I talk to people a lot on speaker phone and they don’t think I’m shouting…that’s weird. I’m not looking for a fight nor do I seek them out. I’m simply a customer trying to get answers to a warranty that I’m entitled to. He was unprofessional and started blabbing on about how the contract specifically states that resurfacing does not solve leaks. I said that I understood that and my question is…..come on people, if you have read this far, you know what the question is…Are going to charge me a fee for the leak detection IF the problem is from the resurface job? He did say that the warranty does read/interpret as stated which is “the workmanship is guaranteed” THEN he proceeded to tell me that my pool does NOT have a leak because of the resurface job. But how does he know???? He gave a statistic about the small amount of pools that have problems because of the “workmanship”. The stat was something like 1/100th of 1000. I find this odd because people make mistakes every day. I think that this statistic should be higher because humans are known to make mistakes or is it because this guy doesn't actually honor his guarantee?? He couldn't even give me a whole number!! That is concerning because human error is inevitable. Most companies would have said that and quot;I have only had to workmanship issues with 5 pools in the last 20 yrs but not this guy. He will try to spin it and say his guys are so good there are never any issues which can't be true because all humans make mistakes. The warranty seems to be bogus and I'm not willing to give this unprofessional company another dollar to figure it out. Either way, at this point I can’t trust someone whose employees couldn't give me an answer to a standard question, an owner that is clearly hostile with customers and a statistic that says basically they never make mistakes which equals no guarantee. I asked him if he was upset AGAIN and he started ranting about how all he knows, “is that he gets a message from his employee that I've called and said that I have a leak in the pool and insinuated that it’s because of the resurface job”. I am surprised to hear this because as a leader/owner if you have limited information and “this is all you know”… shouldn't you seek out additional information? He talked the entire time and wouldn't let me say a word and spoke over me. This guy didn't want to know my question or concern. He wanted to flex his muscle while Lynn and Brendin listened over speakerphone (opinion only). If a customer has to ask you TWICE if you are upset clearly you are being perceived as hostile. I would never recommend this company or use them. There are plenty of other companies out there so choose someone else that doesn't yell at women. I did tell Cliff that I was going to write a review on Angie’s list. Cliff told me that I was mean (all I’m doing is asking a simple question) and that he would write a response and take this to litigation if he needs to (wow, now this guy is threatening to sue me!). I almost hung up on this guy. He has no idea what I even said because he was too busy shouting over me so you should disregard his reply. Cliff will respond with the fact that the contract clearly states “Resurfacing does not correct leaks. If your pool is leaking, we strongly recommend that the leak be located and repaired prior to or in conjunction with this pool resurfacing project”. I have no problem with this but Cliff hides behind this and would not answer a simple question. He told me that my resurface job is not leaking but he can’t possibly know for sure that it wasn’t his workmanship unless he does a leak detection. Maybe the leak is from the workmanship of the resurface job and maybe it isn’t but I would NEVER give this guy another $250 to figure it out . I assume he will deny all of this and create some other story about how I demanded they come fix my pool because the resurface job wasn't done right which is TOTALLY not true. I’m pretty sure that Steve Jobs never yelled at his customers To anyone considering hiring this company….do yourself a favor and go find a pool company that has better leadership. It will make your life easier and is totally worth it.
Description of Work: BUYER BEWARE!! Please use caution if you are considering hiring this company. I had a warranty QUESTION that their employees weren't able to answer (fairly standard question: my pool is leaking IF it’s from the resurface job, will it be covered?). Three employees (including the owner) got hostile with me over the QUESTION alone. Wow, if they are this bend out of shape about a QUESTION what it is going to be like trying to get my warranty enforced? Plus, who yells at their customers? Bottom line if you don’t want to read my detailed description below is I WOULDN'T recommend this company to anyone. I signed a contract to resurface my pool on 6/18/12. The job was completed on 7/24/12 (it took a little longer than it was supposed which we didn't make a fuss over at the time.. The cost to resurface was $2365.00. The pool project required additional work after the prep work was completed because Cliff’s people told me the original installers did a crappy job and didn’t apply enough concrete in the deep end. Cliff charged us an additional 1075.00 to remove the layer of loose damaged deep end surface material which was about 144sq ft (basically the entire deep end as I have a small kidney shaped pool which is why it took a little longer). However, it took a week and a half for them to even figure out that the deep end needed another pour of concrete and we had to track them down to get the wheels in motion. Ok, fine whatever the pool needs to be fixed and we can’t have it empty all summer because I have small kids that like to swim. This project’s total cost was $3440.00. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I was quite surprised to learn that I had a leak several months later. The pool was completed at the end of July 2012 and I started notice it was leaking water in Feb (my pool guy told me to keep an eye on it and measure it; it hadn't rained in a while so he thought it might have been from that). I called Cliff’s pool and patio in April 2013 because they just resurfaced it and it hasn't even been a full year yet…how can this pool be leaking again? My first conversation was with Lynn: I told her that the pool was leaking and IF the leak was from the resurface job- I wanted to know if there would be a fee for the dive/leak detection test? She wouldn't answer my question. I started to think this was alarming. She kept telling me that I needed to read their “Leak Detection Test form” and fill it out and send it back, in which obligates me for at least an additional $250. The leak detection form doesn't have anything about my warranty from my resurface job and I clearly started that to her. She insisted that I read the “leak detection contract” and refused to give me an answer to the question that I posed several different ways which is “IF the resurface job wasn't done properly will I still need to pay the $250”. She did proceed to tell me there are a number of reasons why a pool will leak which I agreed to. I told her that I wasn't trying to be unreasonable and if the leak is from something else (other than the resurface) I would be happy to pay the $250 leak detection. I’m from the Midwest. I’m not unreasonable, litigious or expect a free ride from anyone. However, I do expect that when I sign a contract my partner hold up their end. I hadn’t read the warranty in a while but I was certain they were SUPPOSE to guarantee their workmanship. She could have given me a simple “yes, of course we guarantee our workmanship for 10 years” and I would have signed the contract and sent it back. Something seemed shady because she wouldn't give me that answer. I spoke to Brendin next. I asked Brendin the same question. I have a leak in my pool and IF it is from the resurface work does my guarantee cover it? He said that he would check with Cliff and get back to me. Brendin did call me back and informed me that my guarantee was only for 6 months (which isn’t anywhere in the contract) and I was out of warranty. I said that I read the contract and it says that Cliff’s “warrants resurfacing workmanship for material failure for 10 years from the date of application on all resurface jobs”. So I told Brandon if there is a leak due to the resurface they are on the hook to fix it. He said no that isn't the case. He said if there is a leak because breakdown of the putty or if it was applied to thin that can’t be covered because they can’t warranty the putty. I informed him that his contract doesn't give that exclusion therefore he actually would need to warranty the putty according to how it is written. He got a little argumentative with me and told me that I wasn't reading it correctly. (My dad is an attorney so I had him take a look at it after the first conversation because it seemed so shady that Lynn wouldn't give me an answer to my simple question). I told Brendin this after he continued to insist that I wasn't reading it correctly. Brendin got bent out of shape after that and informed me that one of the “best attorney’s drew up the contract”. Whatever, fine. The contract is fairly simple and doesn't need interpreted by an attorney to be honest with you. However, giving you a warranty and honoring it are two different things. Which leads me back to my original question… “are you going to honor the warranty IF the leak is from the resurface job?” Brendin wasn't the guy with the answer either. He was frustrated and said that I wasn't reading it right again (which I found to be condescending since I’m a college educated professional). He said he would get Cliff to call me to “explain it to me”. Alright, thanks.

Dear Fellow Angie's List Members: The above complaint receives an "F" for honest, "F" for accuracy and "F" for factual content. In short, this complaint is absurd and I suggest any reviews made by this homeowner should be ignored and disregarded. I will briefly provide the facts: 1. Project was contracted 6/18/12 and completed 7/24/12 - on time and excellent! 2. Job was for resurface only. 3. Eights months later, after being completely satisfied, homeowner called office advising pool was leaking. 4. Homeowner was advised resurface does not make leaks or correct them which is very clearly pre-printed on all resurfacing contracts. 5. Homeowner called office several times again implying our resurfacing warranty should cover leaks which is, of course, ridiculous! Each time she called it was explained that leak detection services would be required to find leak and provide repair options following testing. This, of course, is a separate service and must be contracted. This homeowner was rude and threatening to each customer service employee despite everyone's efforts to be nice and explain the facts of what is warranted and what is not. All facts are clearly indicated on all contracts and transparent. The last call to our office, the homeowner indicated her brother was an attorney and she intended to additionally cyber bully us on Angie's List. As a final attempt to explain to homeowner, she again threatened me. Finally, we have performed thousands of projects to our customers and have the highest customer satisfaction in our industry - over 99 percent. I also welcome you to visit our website where you may see dozens of recent tertimonials from our customers which clearly reflect our company, people, professionalism and quality. The project went very well from start to finish.
Description of Work: Cliff's Pools made an onerous chore pleasant. The work was done well and in a timely fashion. Mariann and Pepino, thank you so much for the wonderful job you did on the tiling of my pool. I am not just happy, but thrilled! The tile is what I shall see for the next –-- years, with happy memories of the people who did the job so well. Lest I forget the demolition and prep work that went into arriving at this point, that was tedious, tiring, and amazing, Yet done with persistence and untiring attention to detail. An excellent team! I truly appreciated Mariann’s succinct answers to any of my concerns; you put me at ease immediately.

The experience at the show room and with the staff was very good and professional. The problem arose when the contractor was getting ready to start the work. It was an old pool that probably was not technically perfect, but certainly was not a unique situation to south Florida. The main drain needed a repair, there were 2 layers of resurfacing de-laminating instead of the 1 we were expecting, and there were some cracks in the bond beam that needed to be repaired. Cliff and his supervisor made a huge dramatic episode of each of these issues, taking up literally hours on the phone with me dramatizing the issues, bad mouthing the pool deck contractor and my choice of materials, etc etc. Cliff would be our and quot;saviorand quot; and fix everything, but not warranty, for another $6,000 when the base job was about $4,000. This seemed to me a classic and quot;bait and switchand quot; and upsell. (He had also already insisted that pool step tile was required in residential pools when I found out it is not required, which cost me another couple hundred bucks needlessly). So, after speaking with other contractors, I determined that I did not trust Cliff and felt he was gouging me. So, I agreed to pay Cliff a and quot;divorceand quot; fee and terminate the agreement. I then hired another contractor who did Cliff's scope of work and also fixed everything for about half of what Cliff wanted to charge. The job with the other contractor came out beautifully and correctly, so I can't help but feel Cliff made things a bit more difficult, stressful, and costly then they needed to be. Cliff also appeared offended that we chose someone else to do the pooldeck and not his company, and it appeared he was bitter about it. He claimed he would never have taken the job if he had known, but I was absolutely certain we told the manager at the time what our intentions were and he had no problem when we signed the contract(nor did the other contractor). I deal with contractors everyday and must say Cliff's and quot;bedside mannerand quot; left a bit to be desired -upselling, dramatizing, badmouthing other contractors, condescending tone, etc. All that being said, Cliff's staff is very good and the sales process is professional. I am sure if you have a perfect pool toistart with, they do a decent job. If you don't have a perfect situation, be forewarned.
Description of Work: I engaged Cliff's pools to resurface and re-tile my pool after a different contractor re-did the pool deck

Dear Fellow Angie’s List Members, The above homeowner complaint and reviews should be disregarded; they are not reviews you should trust. The homeowner receives an F for Honesty, F for integrity, and an F for accuracy. All statements below can be substantiated. This is a detailed and complicated project review, so I will bullet point main points which accurately portray what happened: 1) Homeowner selected and contracted Cliff’s Pools & Patios for pool resurfacing, new tile on waterline, cap tile on steps, and a new pool ladder. 2) Permit was applied for and approved. 3) Project was started on time and as scheduled. 4) Upon technician’s arrival to the homeowner’s property, he immediately notified the office that the pool was already drained and the pool beam (top of pool) had been altered/modified and problems with modification existed. 5) Homeowner never advised Cliff’s Pools & Patios that he planned on altering the pool prior to our project, this was a complete surprise. 6) Our Construction Vice President was immediately dispatched to perform a second, independent inspection of the altered/modified area to determine if this critical modification was done correctly, as it would have a direct effect on our contracted job (the new waterline tile installation and its long term adhesion to the pool beam). 7) Detailed inspection (supported by video) was performed. It was concluded and demonstrated to the homeowner by the Construction V.P. that the beam alteration/modification that was performed was incorrectly done and did not conform to established industry standards. The modification was so bad that a hose placed behind the pool would leak completely through the modified pool beam where new pool tile was to be placed. 8) The Construction V.P. also demonstrated to the homeowner how the modification failure would result in catastrophic long term damage to pool beam and leaking. The modification was not done to code or any acceptable construction standard and rendered the pool permanently damaged without complete removal and re-doing the beam the correct way. 9) An addendum was delivered to the homeowner to correct, which he felt was too high. This is incorrect, and homeowner simply contracted another contractor like the previous contractor he hired who caused this problem in the first place—cheap prices, too good to be true usually ARE too good to be true. 10) Finally, as a good faith gesture, Cliff’s Pools & Patios relieved homeowner from contract and non-refundable deposits, only deducting a small fee for services already rendered. We recommend any and all reviews by this homeowner be considered suspect and be disregarded.

ADDENDUM 1/10/14 - Upon reading the response to my factual review, I would like to concede that it may be stated in the fine print that Cliff's collects payment in advance, but this was not made clear by the sales rep who was subsequently confused about a lost check that he never asked for. Furthermore, the allegation that I ever refused to pay for any service rendered is SLANDER. I refused to PREPAY for services (and ultimately hired Larry's Pool and Spa for substantially less money and they didn't require payment before services were rendered). All services provided were paid for when I FIRED Cliff's, and it is innacurate for all of my complaint to be dismissed as false by Cliff's. I stated events truthfully and opinions based on my experience and conversation with Cliff and stand by my conclusions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hired Cliff's Pools on the basis of their reputation, and while their service was excellent, their communications, customer service and billing were extremely disappointing. I accepted that a quality company would charge almost 50% more than a sole proprietor ($100 versus $70) and liked their technician/sales rep so not only did I sign up for monthly service, but I also requested repair, remodeling and equipment estimates. Unfortunately, within 2 weeks of starting service, they began trying to collect payment for the month - IN ADVANCE. No one explained this practice when I signed up, and they not only called me but also left a hangar on my door to call them, frantic to collect money for a check they thought they lost?! I never paid at signup because I was never told billing would be in advance, but the sales rep/technician told John in customer service that I had given them a check, and that they must have lost it. So when I explained to John today on the phone that I was never asked for payment, never told that payment was required in advance and that I don't do business that way and never have had to with 18 other service professionals, he brushed me aside saying that's their policy, basically take it or leave it. I wrote the company and the owner, Cliff actually rang me fairly quickly, apologizing for their mistake, but insisting that I should pay for services in advance, that this is standard industry practice and basically talking over me while I explained this was not the deal I made, not a deal I would make and that I'm quite happy to pay for services when rendered, promptly, as I do with all of my service providers (I listed 18 for Cliff). I also told Cliff 3 times that I like their service, have multiple projects I'm interested in having them do but that in no uncertain terms, I do not accept drains such as this on my time due to unprofessional and customer-alienating business practices, nor do I take changes to the agreements I make after they are made lightly. Unfortunately, Cliff would rather talk over his customers, insist no other reputable or licensed pool company (maybe a guy out of a truck) would bill for services monthly after they are rendered and did not take the honorable route of accepting responsibility for admitted miscommunication on his company's part (although he's happy to apologize for it). In short, I've had a great deal of my time wasted, had unnecessary aggravation and Cliff has lost a customer for life, who was not only signed up for $100/month pool service, but also is planning thousands of dollars in work, all because of I don't know what financial concerns Cliff's business has but he wanted to share with me. It was very unpleasant to be treated like a deadbeat who isn't good for payment when services haven't even been rendered for a the first month. Furthermore, I would be VERY uncomfortable hiring someone who puts their needs above their customers so blatantly (even when they've admitted they've made an error), doesn't listen to customers speaking calmly and trying to give them a chance to see reason and warning them politely that they are losing a customer. Cliff is out of sync with his customer, standard practices of payment after services have been rendered, and seems obvlivious to the notion that his business exists to serve his customers, not vice-versa.
Description of Work: weekly pool service, monthly billing. Repair estimates.

Response from Cliff's Pools & Patios
From: Cliff’s Pools and Patios Date: December 15, 2012 10178 NW 47 Street, Sunrise FL 33351 Dear fellow Angies List members: The above complaint from the customer receives an “F” for honesty, an “F” for truthfulness, and an “F” for accuracy. This homeowner’s review should be considered suspect and are not reviews you can trust. The following summarizes the facts, all of which can be substantiated. The customer contacted this company on October 23, 2012 requesting a proposal for pool service and maintenance. He also indicated that he had some repair issues and was requesting additional proposals for them. An appointment was immediately scheduled for the following day. Our service manager met with him on October 24, 2012, inspected the condition of his swimming pool, the filtration system and the customer pointed out the pending repairs. As is customary for every prospective customer our service manager presented our pool service agreement form (a written service agreement form, not a binding contract), and reviewed with him the services we provide weekly, what is included and what is not, and very clearly details our monthly payment terms. The customer accepted the pool service, signed the agreement form, received a copy and was advised that pool service would begin the first week of the new month of November 2012. What is in conflict is that our pool service agreement form requires the monthly service fee at the beginning of the month for that month. We allow up to the 15th of the month to mail in the payment. These terms are clearly written and defined on the agreement form. We have over 500 loyal customers complying with these terms. Paying in advance is customary practice for pool service in South Florida, negating the need to establish credit with credit checks that would require personal information which most customers prefer not to incur. After the customer had accepted these terms and our pool service began, as agreed on Nov 2, 2012, he notified this company that he refused to comply and wanted the payment terms changed to meet his desires. The company continued to provide service on November 9th and 16th while e-mail correspondence went back and forth with him while he refused to pay. Pool service was discontinued on November 21, 2012 as we could not reach an agreement. The customer is simply using this un-vetted forum as a way to voice his frustration for not getting his way. He was unable to get this company to change its written policies and procedures to suit his desires. The customer appears to be much better adept at cyber-bullying than paying his bills. We would caution other Angies List members to be wary of this person’s tactics.

Go somewhere else for the work. If you are not efficient in making appointments and providing bids, how successful can they be with the more critical parts of the business.
Description of Work: My impression of Cliff Pools is that they are struggling with their company size. There are too many layers that get in the way. I had trouble scheduling a good old fashioned appointment. The best a could get with their receptionist was an appointment window on a speicified date. After talking to the owner's wife, I did get an appointment. It was almost a week away where the other pool contractors I spoke to were almost immediate. I met with Cliff's sales/construction supervisor and spent over an hour explaining the particulars about my pool project. Then I waited again for their estimate. It came almost a week later by email. No phone call to discuss. When I looked at the estimate, I was extremely disappointed to see that it only included the basic option which was re-diamond brighting my pool. It did not include any other work which I had spent a considerable amount of time discussing with their representative. I had to initiate the call to the company to follow up as to what happened with the estimate. Cliff's official company response was "we didn't prepare any other estimate because we knew you were on a budget". I spent almost two weeks giving them an opportunity to bid the job and win the award only for them not to show up at the party. What a waste of my time. I would recommend Larry's Pools and Spa and Top Notch Pools any day over Cliff's pools. They were prompt. The main principals of the company quoted the job and both companies gave me estimates of several options to consider for addressing my particular situation.

Response from Cliff's Pools & Patios
Dear Fellow Angie's List Members: In response to review by Stepahnie Farmer . . . "The True Side of the Story" 1) "Free estimate" was provided as scheduled (time windows required). As with this homeowner, meeting was well over one hour detailing project goals and objectives. We do not rush our visits. We give all of the time required to evaluate homeowner's goals. Within days, not weeks, a proposal was e-mailed to the homeowner with cover letter advising homeowner to call with any questions they may have. This is standard policy. 2) The homeowner wanted to modify their spa spillway to reduce opening size yet did not want to incur the expense of "correctly" doing it and was looking for lower cost options. Our construction manager explained to homeowner that modifications other than "correct" method would result in an unsafe modification and we will only do a job if we can "correctly" do it. There are too many companies that will cut corners, incorrectly performing services which ultimately result in homeowner dissatisfaction in the long term and do not follow correct building standards. Cliff's Pools and Patis will never cut corners or provide a service that could ultimately poorly reflect on our work or homeowner safety. We wish this homeowner good luck, however, the review posted is completely false. As a fellow Angie's List member I suggest reviews from this homeowner be disregarded clearly as "sour grapes" and not a review you can trust. Regards, Cliff Freyman Cliff's Pools & Patios 954-742-2000

Each day the workers showed up on time and worked the entire day. At the end of the day they cleaned up the pool patio area and left it neat until the next day. They knew exactly what they needed to do and it was obvious that they were very experienced. Great team work!
Description of Work: Our pool needed to be resurfaced. We interviewed three companies and visited Cliff's Pools and Patio's showroom before deciding to go forward with them. In addition to resurfacing the pool we installed new waterline tile, new coping, edging on the steps, a handrail, and new pool light. All of the office staff, workers on site and managers are very friendly, knowledgable, and efficient. The entire project was completed in one week as promised. I would not hesitate to recommend this company for any pool restoration project.

The entire process was not only smooth, but expected. Cliff and his team made sure I knew the next steps and what to expect each part of the process.
Description of Work: From the first call, I knew we would be selecting Cliffs Pools & Patios. Their entire team helped out in the process, and they came over to fix an issue, presented us with options and ideas for just how beautiful our backyard pool could be. If you want a company you can not only count on, but trust, there is simply no other option. Looking forward to seeing our pool on their Photo Gallery page on their Website: http://www.cliffspools.com/gallery.html

I called the company for them to come out and do an estimate to repair and replace the tile around my pool as well as do decorative stone work on my patio. They stated it would be a $95 service call for an estimate. That is NOT what their website states, it says free estimates. I can understand if that is what you want to charge, but then state that clearly on your website and do not advertise falsely! 10/1/12 The report was not fraudulent. I did call and speak cliff's pool. They would not provide a quote for remodeling work that was under a certain dollar threshold. If that is their policy just state so on the website. The response from Cliff below is ridiculous. Again, all I wanted was for the information on the website to be accurate as to not waste a person's time if there are limitations to what is meant by and quot;freeand quot; estimate.

Went to store, looked at samples, and spoke with representative. They cam,e out a day or two later for the estimate and we went with them because we liked their presentation the best of those we saw. They began work a week or so later, drained the pool, repaired the grout on the tiles, and applied the Diamond-brite. The job was finished in 3 days, and looked beautiful. They checked the chemicals 3x per week for a month, and are now doing our pool maintenance, which I used to do myself. We thought the price was fair, and we are satisfied.
Description of Work: Drain, remarcite, and refill the pool. Also provided service 3x weekly for first month.

Great service from the initial contact to the present. Everyone I've dealt with either on the phone or in person has been extremely friendly and professional. They don't make me feel like just another customer or a name on a list. It really is like I've joined the Cliff's family. The peace of mind that comes with knowing my pool is properly maintained is tremendous. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cliff's Pools to anyone.
Description of Work: I called Cliff's Pools recently as I just purchased and moved into a house. I was looking for regular maintenance on the pool, the pump, and the other equipment. Wayne came out to give me an estimate and take down the make and models of my equipment. The price was extremely fair for weekly maintenance so I signed up. Wayne came out personally to do an initial cleaning on my DE filter. Frank comes out weekly to brush the tiles, check and adjust chemical levels, and maintain the equipment. Frank actually noticed a broken part on my Barracuda and as part of the service left a note. A quick call to Cliff's to authorize the repair was all that was needed. The part was ordered because they already had the make and model and will be replaced next week when Frank is here for weekly maintenance. I couldn't be happier.

Overall was a good experience. The people were polite and the technician appeared competent and resolved the issue quickly. I believe this company is mostly for big construction and resurfacing jobs rather than small repairs and troubleshooting. They have a service contract they want filled out and this required a bit of telephone tag multiple times. The charge is $75 for the service call which, supposedly, is applied to the work if done. The contract, however, broke out the service call separately and then added the "labor." Either way, the work was done in a timely manner once the appointment was made.
Description of Work: We had decreased suction for our pool vac. Our patio is not screened and recently had an exorbitant amount of leaves and debris blown into the pool. We were confident this was the problem but snaking the pool vac line and the pipe system as much as we could did not resolve the issue. The technician identified the problem and fixed it. Unfortunately this meant cutting the above-ground portion of the pipes and replacing it. He recommended a leaf canister to install in the first section of the hose for the pool vac which we installed.

The project went very smoothly from the time we signed the contract to complete finish was almost exactly three weeks which is what we were told it would be. The supervisor was excellent with educating us about the process and the three different crews for the sand blasting, prep work and resurfacing were prompt and professional.
Description of Work: Our 25-year old pool was sand blasted and resurfaced with a Diamond Brite finish. Coping tiles were acid washed and regrouted. We also had a Salt Water Chlorination system installed and new cap tiles installed on the pool steps.

Work was done on time but we have never been happy with overall result.
Description of Work: We had new diamond bright done and new tile put on our pool. We also had a salt system installed. when Cliff came to talk to us he was great, sounded great--said everything would be done to our satisfaction. they came when they were supposed to and did the work in a timely manner. However we have had nurerous problems with our pool and spa ever since it was redone. any call to Cliff's was met with a reson (other then their work) as to why were were having problems. our spa would not work and he did send his job boss out to fix it. there was much concrete and stone within the system that they removed. It has never been right and our pool continues to have leaks. I had to pay another company to come out and fix the leaks around the new light that Cliff's had installed. I would never recommend him or use him again
