The whole thing went according to schedule. After the pool was finished they provided someone to do the necessary brushing of the surface until the finish had set, and the chemical adjustments for about 2 weeks.
Description of Work: They did a beautiful job on our pool. They put in a new Diamond Brite surface and tile and an energy efficient heater, a salt system, a pool sweep, a digital control and a pool light with multiple colors. They fixed our multiple leaks. Our pool is so easy to care for now that we don't need a pool service anymore. They were right on schedule and very professional. Cliff runs a tight ship and everyone is well supervised.

We have nothing but the BEST things to say about Cliff's. Our project was completed on-time, and with lots of communication from the team at Cliff's. We did have some customization that we wanted, but they were able to accomodate our changes and @ a reasonable price. We loved their attention to detail, and final work product. We are proud to have selected Cliffs and look forward to enjoying our pool remodel for many years to come!

Overall, not a bad experience. After an initial misunderstanding about the fact that a new deck surface was NOT included in my contract, although I thought it was. I did not like the upcharges I got for additional $1200 and $950 at various check-points, but I was warned there could be more damage uncovered during the removal of old materials. Although quoted about $5500, I ended up spending about $8000 total. Regardless, I would trust Cliff again to do work for me. His company has been recommended by my peers, whom he did work for and also, local Pinch a Penny management, where I buy my pool supplies.

The folks at Cliff are very responsive and professional. The estimate process went very smooth. Anthony has been great to work with and so has Geri the Asst. Office manager. In response to Cliff - You are liar - if this is how you treat your VIP customers as you repeatedly told me I was, I feel for anyone else that would contract with you. Yes the pool area looks better but it lacks when it comes to functioning properly. You state that I was satisfied that I then contracted with you for the fire up service. Liar - I have the paper work that shows thedate that fire up services were requested at the same time for the remodel of the pool. Why would I give you such a bad rating if I was satisfied. You also state that you have a 99% approval rating - not sure how you do that math but the stats on Angie's List does not support that claim. I would urge all people considering hiring this company to carefully read all reviews - there seems to be a common theme of complaints. I would say that perhaps they do some jobs correctly but when hiring a company do you want to toss a coin to see if yours is the one that is done correctly without any problems or one that has problems and then you will be threatened and yelled at and then not have the problems fixed. BUYER BEWARE
Description of Work: They did a remodel of pool and patio area. did not go well - after waiting for weeks for them to even start the project - they claimed due to weather (I think they schedule more than they can handle) Then not even two days into the start of the project I was told that they ran into unforseen problems and was charged another $2,400.00 when I approved that the next day the ran into anothe unforeseen problem wanting more money. I questioned their "unforeseen problem" noting that they told me they have been in business for 20 plus years and yet did not know my skimmer was outdated. Really - the pool is over 27 years old. I would think with that many years of experience they knew what they were dealing with. Had to contact company numerous times and each time they had some excuse as to why things were not progessing. when all was done - I had a leak which they indicated was not caused by their work. I tried to explain to them that I have had this pool for orver 27 years and it never leaked until after they did the work it now leaked - really. During this time when I wanted them to fix the leak I was screamed at and threatened. You get tossed around between many "vice presidents" of the company each one telling you something different. They finally told me the leak was fixed and they did it as a courtesy. Well the leak was not fixed and it has gotten worse. Additionally I paid extra for them to do "fire up services" whch included brushing the pool down every three days per week winding down to 2 days per week for a month in addition to cleaning the filter. Although they left a card at my house letting me know that they were there - they did not perform the services I paid for. In addition when the service person left they made mistakes such as leaving the leaf catcher out of the pump and the release valve open - if I had not returned and noticed their mistakes, and corrected them immediately, my pool pump could have burned out. When I called to complain and told them how I knew they did not brush the pool or clean the filter - they had an excuse for everything and insisting that the services were performed even though they weren't. So if you decide to hire this company with a "Angie's list Super Service Award" be prepared for: |Long wait until project is started |paying alot more than what the initial contract is for |paying for a service you will not receive |being threatened and yelled at by vice presidents |dealing with multiple people - each telling you something different |if problems arise at the completion of the job - expect to fight for what you paid for and don't expect them to fix it without an argument | |

Let’s be clear: if you go with Cliff’s Pools and Patios, expect high price, poor service and zero accountability. If you are not satisfied by their work like we were, they will tell you how much it is a privilege to get a call back from one of their multiple “managers” or the self-important owner and all you will hear is that you have nobody else to blame but yourself and that you need to pay MORE to get it corrected ! As pushy as they are in collecting payment at every stage from deposit to the minute after each milestone, they will not take any responsibility at any stage...By the way, the reason for not taking credit cards should be a big red flag (they admitted that customers would dispute the charges after the work was completed, so that’s why they only take checks..!) This company’s culture (and its owner’s) is simply that a customer is not smart nor skilled enough to understand (or accept) that Cliff Pools will take your money but will never stand behind their work or feel that they have an obligation to deliver results. On one hand, you will hear that these guys are practically rocket’s scientists or cancer doctors and you can’t come even close as it takes their 30 years of experience to fire-up the pool, that just following their directions isn’t enough but on the other hand also said that 80% of their pools are not fired up by them...! So, which is which ??? Although they give big lip service to customer satisfaction, Cliff and his mignons will make sure that you feel that it’s a privilege to even get a call returned by some of their numerous, very important little managers and that they have so many other more important customers to attend to; they will lecture/patronize you by repeating their same unacceptable logic over and over again: if something goes wrong, there is no guarantee from their side and certainly a reason for which you did something wrong... The entire experience from bad scheduling, supervisors showing up after hours, to the unsatisfactory result was a terrible disappointment for a company that constantly brags/claims to be professional and reliable. So, just don’t waste your money and time, skip the self important/ condescending attitude and move on, like we did, to one of the many customer-focused professionals who actually pay respect to their customer’s satisfaction, commit to delivering results and stand by the quality of their work. We are glad we did and have made sure to share that real life experience with our friends homeowners across South Florida as well as the realty group who had initially referred Cliff to us... P.S. what does it say about Cliff pool’s owner when you him responding to another dissatisfied customer by just chastising him and questioning the reviewer’s honesty...?
Description of Work: We paid more than $4 000 on having our pool resurfaced and ended up, 2 weeks after their work, with a pool that looked WORSE than before: all we heard back was every reason it was only our fault and , even better, that even if we were to pay him another $ 1 200 acid wash service that he had priced up, we were lectured by this small business owner as to why we didn’t get it and that he couldn’t guarantee that the scaling would not reappear weeks or even days later... ! Quite troubling also is the fact that we ere told that the pb was scale -according to their analysis of the water sample that we gave them (although they never shared the test results that they claim to have conducted)- when 2 other leading professional firms who came to look at the pool and test the water determined that it wasn’t scaling but metals that leeched out of the water to the new surface... ! Adding product to avoid this situation was supposed to be part of the initial Cliff Pool contract, something we never saw them do.

Dear fellow Angies List members: It is unfortunate that a person can make a complaint and unfairly slander a company even if everything regarding the complaint is false. This is the case with this person. In fact, these homeowners damaged their own new pool surface by not doing their maintenance properly after our work was completed. We had offered to do this maintenance for them in the form of our fire-up program but they declined and accepted the responsibility themselves. They did not do it correctly and created damage to their new pool surface. After they brought the damage to our attention we provided no-charge inspection services that confirmed the pool water had developed a hard scale over their new pool surface. Then we demonstrated that the scale and stains could be removed with the proper repair treatment, but there was absolutely no evidence of surface material failure or application defects on our part. This member receives an “F” for honesty. We value constructive criticism and always try to be fair and do the right thing with every customer but in this case we must reply with the real truth. Though we value our membership with Angie’s List, our advice to everyone is to understand Angie’s List does not check in any way to determine if complaint is justified or not. I suggest all members disregard any comments from this member. Our Operations Manager has spent much time recreating the actual true accounting of this issue. We hope you will read it so you can decide for yourself if this type of underhanded and slanderous written behavior should be considered. Thank you! [member name removed], the author, is not our customer, he lives with [removed additional name] whom we were under contract with, to resurface their swimming pool. Yes they spent $ 4,000.00 because they had requested several upgrades. Throughout the project there were some progress payments due which were clearly defined in the contract, and when each of those progress payments became payable they were asked for. That’s what contractors do. This person has no right to belittle this contractor for asking for progress payments when they are due. Just sour grapes. The resurfacing project was completed and accepted on time and within budget for exactly what they had contracted for, as such, was acknowledged by them making their final payment in full, when the job was completed. [removed additional name] was very happy with the work until after he assumed responsibility to properly maintain the freshly resurfaced and refilled swimming pool. After our contracted resurfacing work was completed and the swimming pool had been re-filled with fresh city water, comes a crucial 30 day period where important maintenance, chemical testing and the correct amount of chemicals are added to the water throughout the 30 day curing and hydration period. The process is crucial to maintain the proper chemical balance as defined by the industry standard saturation index to prevent damage to the new pool surface. Every new ‘fresh-fill’ undergoes this requirement. [member name removed]'s assertion that we must be rocket scientists or cancer doctors is disputed. We are simply pool professionals providing our customers with very important, industry recommended advice, that they need to follow so their new pool surface is not damaged by chemical abuse.

The workers were great. They showed up on time worked very hard and for the most part did a good job. Initial estimate meeting went well. Joey identified some potential problems that other companies did not want to address at that time. The other companies told me they would let me know after the work was started if it was a problem then they would give me an estimate on the cost. Joey told me up front what the cost would be if in fact the area needed repair. The estimate was pretty close. Show room experience was good and displays helped in being able to select tiles and other materials for the job. . We signed with them and they started close to the date stated. I was told by Humberto that supervisors would come by regularly to make sure things were going well. This did not happen. A supervisor showed up before any work started. No supervisor showed during the demolition, no supervisor showed during the build up around the pool where the old coping had been removed. No supervisor showed up during the installation of the travertine tile. It is a good thing the workers Cliff has are professional, show up when they are scheduled, and do a good job. The prep for resurfacing the pool and installation of the tile was complete and then a supervisor came by to make sure that some ceramic inlays were placed properly so resurfacing could be done. Supervisor (I believe Tom) was knowledgeable and very easy to work with. Resurfacing was completed and the pool was filled. Tom came by and covered warranties and procedures we were to follow. We were not provided the and quot;START-UPand quot; or and quot;FIRE-UPand quot; package which consisted of 10 service visits during the first 30 days because we live Jupiter and they said Cliffs did not have anyone in this area that does pool service. Because of this I had to brush my pool daily for 30 days and make sure that chemicals were at proper levels. Word to the wise, if you live too far from them, you are on your own for pool maintenance or you have to hire a local pool service and pay extra. Normally you would think a $19,000.00 job would be enough to get the normal service. When we had the pool deck sealed, the company Cliffs hired to do this came to pressure wash my deck, which is normal, spent 22 minutes washing the deck. They washed an excessive amount of sand out from between the tile. To give you an idea how much sand they washed into the pool, the pressure on my filter went up 7 PSI in one hour. It took two days and five filter cleanings to get all of the sand out of the pool. When they came to seal the deck , I showed them all of the space between the tiles where the sand was washed out and told them they had to fill this in. I assumed this was normal since the individual who did the pressure washing initially told me they would re-sand places that needed it prior to sealing. After the work was done, I received a bill from Cliffs for $265.00 for re-sanding. I called Humberto and told him I refused to pay this because they caused the problem in the first place. Cliffs recalled the bill. The workers who sealed the pool did their work without protective clothing or respirators even though they were out doors. I am not sure what chemical they used but when you see the warnings on the container, it is obviously strong. My neighbors commented about the strong smell. I wonder what OSHA would think of their processes. I had some stains and imperfections in the pool that were caused by the workers who refinished the pool and I could not get anyone at Cliffs to talk to me about it except for the young man in accounts receivable. I told him I would not pay until it was corrected. After about two weeks, they finally sent the guys who refinished the pool out to see what they could do. They were able to get rid of the stains but they told me that all pools in Florida had imperfections so norhing could be done with some pits in the finish. My pool did not have these pits when it was initially constructed and none of my neighbor's pools have imperfections similar to mine. I went ahead and paid. Cliff has stated in response to other customer write-ups that and quot;we have a and quot;realand quot; customer service department to help six (6) days a week! We do not do Follow-up calls after projects are completed.and quot; My question was where was the customer service department when I had a problem? The part about they do not do follow up calls after projects are completed is correct. Maybe they should start following up. I stated that I would use them again. This is because of the workers they have. I would make sure the contract covered all items more thoroughly.

This company came across to me as having its main focus on maximizing profit. They have many and quot;chiefsand quot; working in the office and seems not too many Indians. In fact there was only one guy that prepped the pool for several days before it was recoated. That man did an outstanding job working for over a week all by himself in the sun, heat, dust. In general, as a whole, they did an average job, nothing that any other company couldn't have done. My personal perception, however, was that the permeating management attitude is to get you to sign a contract, get the job done and goodbye. No deviations from the planned project are entertained even when it is feasible to do so; basically you are stuck with your choices and there is no discussion. We understand that when choices are made by the customer, such as color, tile types etc., these choices are hard to change since specific material needs to ordered. However, there are other choices which could have been readjusted but they made it practically impossible. For example, the code requires hand holds where there is a high wall. The original estimate said that we needed four of them. As it turns out the installer couldn't fit four since the wall was not wide enough and only two would have been necessary and still meet the code, as was in fact subsequently confirmed by the city inspector who signed off on the project. The installer called the office and tried to explain that four hand holds wouldn't fit and that two would be sufficient but he was told to put in all four which has created a very and quot;crowdedand quot; look. I was told that if I wanted to take out two hand holds I would have to pay additionally for their screw up The main thrust is to get the job done, get the money and leave. Then after the project is done you are basically on your own, unless you decide to buy their $450 and quot;start upand quot; service, which I didn't since I have always taken care of my pool. But because of that I never received a call from them to check on how the pool was coming along or if there were any problems concerns. Nothing. Complete silence. Once the balance is paid in full you never hear from them again, unless of course you sign up for the start up service.
Description of Work: I general they did an average job, nothing outstanding. The customer care and addressing customer concerns during the project and after its completion leave a lot to be desired.

I will respond in order of his review: 1. “PROFIT”: Yes “Profit” is essential for any company to survive and be able to honor its commitments to its wonderful customers. Our long term success and general recognition of being among the finest construction companies in the industry proves our pricing is fair and we really do give our customers value everyday! 2. “CHIEFS”: Yes, we really do have a complete management term, customer service, supervisors and construction managers who ensure every job is done and administrated correctly. Our workmanship is outstanding! We have thousands of reference letters from our customers, few other construction companies anywhere would be able to document so many extremely satisfied customers. We welcome all members to visit us or our website and see for yourself. 3. YES “EXCELLENT PREP”: Our employee was excellent, as the homeowner review states, we welcome any member to see this project and decide if it is average or excellent! I assure you it was done with great care and came out great! We use only the best talent, all in house! 4. “Deviations”: Change orders and addendums are a regular and an ongoing progress in all construction, we must do them regularly as we often find “SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET” and must correct them in conjunction with the project. We are very flexible when possible! 5. “CHOICES”: We have one of the most complete and comprehensive Pool and Patio remodeling showroom in the industry. We welcome anyone to visit and compare us to anyone. I want our customers to have the greatest number of options so they may make their backyard to their individual taste. 6. “HAND HOLDS”: Code required every 4’ or less!! The wall measurement showed (4) should have been used. This wall’s unusual layout required (4), however the inspector allowed less. Only the inspector can make that call. We follow the rules and always try to protect the homeowner and ourselves, when it comes to “SAFETY” which is what Hand Holds are for! 7. “START-UP”: The “fire-up” a (10) service visit pool maintenance program to properly care for the pool during the first 30 days after surfacing. Most other companies do not even have the employees or resources to offer this service, WE DO! Most homeowners service their own pool and do not need this service and others already have a service company and contract them for the special service. For those who need us, we gladly offer this additional service. 8. “PROJECT DONE”: Upon project completion and final payment, our supervisor always meets with the homeowner in person, explains everything, answers all questions and leaves written instructions to homeowner. At that point, if the homeowner has any questions we have a “real” customer service department to help six (6) days a week! We do not do Follow-Up calls after projects are completed. We had a few flawed pavers and Humberto came out to replace them as soon as scheduling would allow. (It took a month to replace the flawed pavers but it was also during the holidays). 3 months later and still happy with the job. One of the more professional installs I've had on my home's remodel. They may not be the least expensive but I couldn't ask for a better job. Everyone that comes over loves the Travertine patio.
Description of Work: I had Cliff's install an 850 sq ft of Travertine pavers for my patio.

I was very impressed with the level of professionalism from Cliff's. They demonstrated they know their craft from day one, when they advised us on what was possible to do or not to do in our patio based on the city's construction code clarifying what would not pass an inspection from the city. Their showroom is very comfortable, you can go there to choose materials, finishes, pools lighs, etc. The even have a PC and monitor where you can see the pictures they took from your home at quotation time, so you can explain easily what you want to do and where, and also compare the color of materials they have there to what you have in your patio. Once we agreed on price and features a date was set and they were very punctual, communication was excellent making sure we knew things were going to happen. I also hired their fire up service for the pool which happened flawlessly. The Deck concrete resurfacing also happened smoothly and on-schedule, Oscar and his assistant did a great job, they handle those little details that make a customer happy, like painting the edge of the walls that get peeled off after pressure cleaning. Since the deck staining process included 3 different colors of paint, they were very patient to work with us to make sure we got the color we wanted at the end. After the job was finished they left the patio clean and organized. Even though I found the price a little bit high I was impressed with the quality of the job and the professionalism of their team, so it's worth! I highly recommend Cliff's and We will definitely work with them in the future. i

We were very pleased with the staff that we spoke with at Cliff’s showroom. I liked being able to see and touch the tile selections as opposed to choosing from a catalogue. Once the project got rolling it was very impressive. Each work crew that came to the house was professional and courteous. The workmanship was very good. Each work crew was specialized which made each step seem to work together seamlessly. The unfortunate part came when we realized there wasn’t one person assigned to oversee the entire project. Once the patio was completed the person we thought was the Project Manager was no longer involved. A Project Manager would have communicated prior issues and resolutions to the other teams, eliminating the annoying problems that occurred at the end of the project. Because of communication errors between the work crews the overflow was tiled over, the drain was not closed and a drain plug was not replaced. These things were minor but the resulting water loss and, in the case of the blocked overflow, patio flooding were very stressful to our family. We believe that if one person oversaw the entire project these issues would not have occurred.

Overall the pool looks beautiful. There were some flaws so they did discount the price. They were not willing to repair the issues they agreed were flawed. The tile work was fantastic. It was the resurfacing that had some issues.
