Hello Mr. and Mrs. [Member Name Removed], My Name is Gigi and I'm in charge of Customer' Relations Department. I'm sorry but our company never received a phone call or direct message regarding your request. There seems to be an issue between our messaging platform, which I will inform to Angie's List. If you like, we can schedule a free inspection, we know after the hurricane it's important to check on the state of the roof. If you allow me, I can have my qualifier perform this inspection at no charge to you. Please call me at [Phone Number Removed].

Description of Work: Allied repaired our tile roof because of a leak detected by water staining a section of ceiling and a portion of a wall. Did a good job of resealing the chimney and patching a section of the roof. However, the leak reapeared and Allied returned and found a previously undetected leak area. This was fixed and solved the problem. Allied returned to repair or replace a number of broken or cracked tiles--at our cost. We have high confidence in Allied and will use them again when we have any roof problems.

Originally got 4 estimates, and hired Allied because they gave the second lowest quote, and gave a professional sales pitch. Researched BBB, St. Contractor?s Licensing, WC & liability Ins coverage ? no problems?.it was all downhill from there? First, they damaged screens over my deck, then the wood frame on all 3 of my skylights showed seams thru the plaster, (they repaired these). Next, I noted that the whole house shook while they were working, and I could hear the plumbing rattling inside the wall. They refused any responsibility. (I have since sprung a leak.) During this, I received a call saying I needed an $800 stucco repair because they had found that the flashing had come away from the wall, held water and saturated the stucco, which I authorized. (An engineer later issued a rept to my Ins Co saying the stucco damage was caused by Allied removing the flashing). They billed me $850, which the adjustor told me was excessive for the amount of work needed. I also got 2 interim invoices that were incorrect and had to be rebilled. The final invoice came out 40% over estimate! (the stucco plus over $1000 worth of add?l wood they never mentioned when they called about the stucco.- (they could not produce receipts) I refused to pay, and offered to settle for an amount equal to my highest bid. They refused, voided my roof warranty and plan to file a lien against me.

Response from Allied Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc
It is very unfortunate, that in these tough economic times, a consumer would not only refuse to pay, but also attempt to slander a company by posting a false, negative review. Every effort has been made to accommodate the member, going above and beyond our obligations, to resolve this matter successfully. Please read the response to this review carefully, and judge for yourself if Allied Roofing is a negligent contractor, or if the member just simply refuses to pay the amount owed for services rendered. In her opening statement the member states, “I Researched BBB, FL. Contractor’s Licensing, WC & liability insurance coverage - no problems”. A company that has been in business for 20 years, would have less than an A+ rating with the BBB if they did not go above and beyond their scope of work every day to satisfy each and every customer, and she reiterates this fact perfectly by stating: “they damaged screens over my deck, then the wood frame on all 3 of my skylights showed seams thru the plaster. They repaired these.” THEY REPAIRED THESE. This is just one example of Allied going above and beyond to satisfy this customer. The final statement is where the truth of the matter lies: “I needed an $800 stucco repair … which I authorized … The final invoice came out 40% over estimate! Stucco + additional wood I was never told about (they could not produce receipts). I refused to pay; they cancelled my roof warranty and plan to file a lien against me.” The member was told by Allied that she could get additional estimates for the stucco repair, and could use any contractor she chose to do the necessary work. She approved, and chose Allied. It is clearly stated on the front of our contract: If any other work is needed, there will be a separate charge. Should unforeseen conditions arise that could not be determined by visual inspection, such additional work shall be performed on a time and material or firm basis, after Owner or his agent has been notified of such. Allied Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc. prides itself on exceptional customer service, and goes above and beyond to insure that the consumer is more than satisfied on every job, and this would include the member. Bad publicity is the quickest way to put a business in bankruptcy, as is the refusal to pay. In this tough economy, we would hope that our efforts to satisfy the member are recognized, and that future consumers will read this response, and take into account the member is refusing to pay for the services rendered, and has no justification in posting a negative review. The contractor started much much later than originally promised, blaming the delay on bad weather, etc. etc. They were supposed to start in the spring when it is typically dry in Florida, but instead delayed until the height of storm season. They tore the old roof off, then as would be expected, a tropical storm came through. With only tar paper on the roof, we suffered through terrible leaks which ruined several areas of our ceilings. Prior to the storm, we asked, begged and pleaded to have a tarp laid down but they did not respond. Finally, when the storm was almost passed, they belatedly put up a tarp. Too - late - damage was done. They did sort of repair some of the ceiling areas but much of it was left up to me to figure out how to paint, etc. In addition, they were supposed to repair rotting wood, plaster, etc. related to the wide eaves, but instead, left much of it untouched or just applied a cosmetic coat of paint. A year and a half later, another storm came through and due to winds, blew water up under the eaves, and in the rotted areas that they did not replace, caused the eaves to buckle and finally come crashing down. They refused to address this, leaving me with an additional bill of a thousand dollars to hire someone else to do the repairs.

There were no services performed. The salesman/estimator came out on Weds. 2/3/2010. He said that he was pretty busy and would have an estimate to me in a couple of weeks. The couple of weeks went by and no estimate. I spoke to him on Friday 2/19 and he said that he would have an estimate for me on the Monday. It is 2/27 and I still don't have an estimate. I will pick a different roofer.

-Sales Rep (Danny Whitlock) is an attention to detail person. Listens to the customers needs and incorporates the language into the contract. -Not the lowest price, but very competitive. -When making my decision on a roofing contractor, I analyzed the pricing, service, reputation, years in business, warranty, insurance (workers'comp) and safety records. Allied came out on top. -Took care in covering up areas (e.g. pool, AC unit) to insure minimal debris landed in these areas. -Clean up of property after work was completed to satisfaction. -VERY IMPORTANT--All lien releases and final inspections were presented upon final payment to Allied (homeowners beware--make sure your roofing company produces these documents).
Description of Work: Allied Roofing and Sheet Metal completed the following work: -Removed the existing tile roofing system to the wood decking; clean the surface free of all dirt and debris, or a smooth workable surface. Removed all debris to legal disposal facility. -When necessary, Allied replaced up to 150 square feet of rotted decking at no charge -Provided and installed new 1” x 6” fascia (primed with one (1) coat of white primer) around entire perimeter of house (existing guttering system to be removed and disposed of). -Re-nailed existing deck to meet current building codes with the use of ring shank nails. -Provided and installed one (1) new 2’ x 4’ Miami-Dade approved skylight to replace existing skylight. -Applied one ply of ASTM 30 # base sheet shall be installed with Metro Dade tin caps and ring shank nails. Installed two layers in all valleys. -Installed 16 oz copper valley metal per manufacturer’s specifications. -Replaced all lead plumbing stacks, vents and drip edges shall be removed and replaced with new ones. Drip edges were (2”x2”) to be made of 16 oz copper. -Primed all metal surfaces before hot moping with asphalt primer. -Provided and installed single layer of SBS Modified set in hot asphalt at the rate of 30-35 lb per sq. Provided two layers of SBS Modified in all valleys. -Provided and installed new double roll, 13” flat, or “Bella” style tiles, Std. Colors. tiles. Tiles were installed with Poly Pro AH160 medium paddy system to manufacturer’s specification and local building code requirements. -Provided and installed new hip and ridge metal board reinforcement where tiles are to be foamed down. Installed metal eave closure (Color to be determined by owners). -Painted all lead stacks and vents to match color of tile as close as possible. -Provided and installed new 7” seamless aluminum guttering system including downspouts to match existing locations (Standard Colors)

Allied Roofing is a very professional company. I was told in exact detail what work would be done and any potential problems when I received my estimate. I was kept informed of the status of my roofing job during the months we waited on the panels. I was told well in advance of when the work would start. They had a separate crew for the tear down and the installation. The tear down crew had a foreman on site at all times and 5 workers. The installation team also had a foreman on site at all time and 3 workers. They arrived on time and worked all day. The workers were knowledgeable and skilled. Work was scheduled according to my needs. They left my yard very clean. I have a beautiful new metal roof that will probably last 100 years. Here is the time line: June 9: contract signed (metal roofing panels delivery was promised in 8 to 12 weeks) July 18: permit issued Oct 13 & 14: tear Down of old roof Oct 15: insulation and tar paper Oct 22: tin cap roof Oct 27, 28 & 29: installed metal trim, fire barrier and secondary water barrier Oct 30: installed metal panels and county inspection Nov 2: passed final county inspection.
Description of Work: My asphalt shingle roof was 12 years old and had begun to leak in several places so I decided to have it replaced with a metal roof. A metal roof is the best roof if you live in a hurricane zone. The cost for removing my old asphalt shingle roof and installing a new metal roof (2500 square foot roof) was $18000. I spent an additional $9000 was for a secondary water barrier (10 year warranty) and 1 1/2 " Foam Board Insulation with a plywood decking layer. I also wanted a metal roof so I could install thin film solar panels to generate my own electricity. Allied Roofing only did my roofing, although they had just started installing solar panels as well. I had the solar panel work done by the specialist at "The Energy Store" since I installed a complex grid-tied battery backup solar system.

They are good. They were a general contractor, so they could do other jobs associated with the roof that weren't just associated with roofing. I am happy with the job and they did stay with the estimated price. They might have been a week late in finishing the work, but that was no big deal.
Description of Work: They replaced the roof. They tore off the old shingles. They put in heavyweight paper covering. They put on foam between the tiles so they do not lift off in strong winds. We did this to bring everything up to code for the hurricane season.

Allied promised, in the contract, to apply for the permit within 3 days and to start work within two weeks of getting the permit. Took over 2 weeks to apply for the permit and another week, after permit was issued, to pick it up. Allied promised, in the contract, to have the roof finished within three weeks of starting the work. They did not. When a roof wood problem was encountered, Allied tried to create much more work than was needed to fix the problem, and finally used the solution I offered. They then sent 3 men to work less than 1/2 day to fix the problem and charged me for a full day. I protested telling Allied that I was at home all day watching and their employees left before lunchtime (noon). Allied continues to insist that their employees were working all day on my house and has billed for that, even though none of their managers or supervisors actually saw the employees working. I also protested their use of three carpenters as the required work, according to another roofing contractor, would have required one carpenter working for about 1/2 day. Allied employees also dropped rolls of tarpaper, weighing up to 80 lbs. each, and other materials on the roof causing cracks in the ceiling and about 10 high hat lights to fall from the ceiling. Allied management stated that they would allow $300 for the crack repair based upon a verbal estimate. Actual cost was $400 and another $130 to fix the lights, all to be deducted from the final bill. Allied has filed a lien for just over $2,500. I have asked several times that they send a correct bill based upon my written records of the coming and going of their work crews, stating also that I would pay the correct amount less the deductions for the repair of my ceiling and lights. Allied has ignored my requests for a correct bill.
