We had Quick Electric out today for a whole house electrical inspection. Two men came, one inspecting, the other making the notes. The men were punctual, courteous, and professional. They were thorough in their inspection. Although their inspection showed major issues, which we unfortunately expected, we can't kill the messenger. We would use Quick Electric again. Their responsiveness and flexibility were most appreciated.

I bought a $50 electrical inspection deal through Angie's List. They showed up on time and checked that everything was fine. There was some minor things, but that was all. I also asked them questions about a light that keeps going on and off and an outlet that doesn't seem to have power at all times and they gave me some good things that I can try on my own. All in all, I'm very satisfied.

The work done by Quick Electric Service turned out fine. The only thing I didn't like is that he took about two days to respond to the email that I first sent him. It's faster to call, but I usually email.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's Big Deal to get a ceiling fan installed. He gave me estimates on some additional electrical work, but I haven't had it done yet. I only paid the original amount of the Big Deal. I did not pay anything extra. He came out maybe about a week after I bought the Big Deal.

He low- balled the estimate at $9,500. Demanded $2000.00 more halfway through, which I paid. Then wanted another random $4000.00, although he never once showed me a receipt or an itemized statement of any kind (I repeatedly requested them). He left holes in my walls inside and out, moved a bookcase and scratched my hardwood floor, and cut off the electricity to my garage, never rewired in there, even though it was included in the original $9500 estimate. I now have a garage with no power, with a garage door opener that no longer functions. I have paid him over $12,000 so far, and I won't be ripped off for another penny. When refused to pay him the last $4000 he demanded, and he showed up at my house, banging on the door for 20 minutes, yelling. He also showed up at my work on 7/3/13, and had to be escorted out by the sheriff (I work for the County). He seems to have no understanding of how to conduct business in a grown- up manner, tried to intimidate me into paying him over $16,000 without a shred of paperwork, and did not finish the job. He also bragged to me that he "fooled" the inspector by installing a modern light in my bathroom for the inspection, and then removed it to re-install my old, antique light after the inspection was over. I will be making a formal complaint to the Contractors State Licensing Board, the BBB, and the police, if he ever tries to contact me again. I have never dealt with such a buffoon, don't like his slimy manner or his "business" tactics, and feel he should not be represented on Angie's List.

Two gentlemen arrived on time and introduced themselves. they explained what they were going to do, then proceeded to check outlets, lightswitches, can lights inside and outside the house. As one gentleman was performing the inspections, the other was writing down the findings. They answered my questions calmly and patiently. They explained that the building codes had changed since the house was built in 1988 and pointed out areas where we would not meet the current code. For example GFI outlets are now required within a certain distance from water, sinks, bathtubs, washing machines etc. They provided me with a copy of the findings and explained the findings and any recommendations. I asked them for a quote for the recommendations and that was provided. they also explained that certain recommendations were more of a priority than others. I haven't decided yet, which recommendations I will make now vs later but will likely utilize their services. they were friendly and pleasant, yet professional and were also nice to my dog :-)

7/5: So far so good! The main power box has been replaced and now they are going room by room replacing the wiring and outlets. They were very clear about when they could and couldn't work so that has gone well. They have been very forthcoming with details and ideas about this massive project and reasonable about their rates. They have finished the outlet replacement in 3 rooms and have about 3-4 to go. They ask me questions about what I want and share information about what makes sense. No pressure but a lot of support. For a person that doesn't know much about home ownership or the fixer-upper I'm in, its a huge help, especially after having had some bad experiences. I will write again after the work is complete. UPDATE 7/15: Today Nick, Dave and Larry from Quick Electric (all three of whom are wonderful and extremely intelligent and respectful and honest) have even advised on other work so I don't get taken advantage of. Nick has even gone out of his way to explain to me ways I can get electrical rebates from the State, and how to talk to my homeowners insurance about the work he is doing so that I can get a break on my homeowners insurance. Quick Electric is really going above and beyond for us. I couldn't be more grateful that I found them on Angie's list, or more pleased with how the work is going. These guys are great, I couldn't ask for better people to have working in my home on a job so big. I trust them thoroughly.
Description of Work: We are not yet done working with Quick Electric, but so far we are deeply appreciating their work ethic, professionalism and work quality. Our initial estimate was for replacing the main power box and we have since expanded the work to include rewiring the entire house. Our estimate started at about 3500.00, and looks like it may go to over $10,000 since we expanded greatly the scope of the work. Quick Electric (once we got the work scheduled) has been quick to respond but they are so busy it was hard to get ahold of them in the beginning to plan to start the work. I will update the review as more work gets done.

They called within the allotted time (rapid connect) and scheduled an appointment on the day I requested because I was going to be home from work anyway. So far that is the first time I've been able to get any repair person to do that with a week's notice. I don't believe it is because they don't have work to do. I think they are fairly busy in fact. I think they just moved things around and made time so that I would not be inconvenienced . That was the first indication that they're interested in providing good customer service. The second plus is that Raz always answers his phone. I called three times (once on a Saturday) to make arrangements and he answered each time. How unusual, and how helpful. They arrived within fifteen mintes of the time we had agreed on. That's good in my book. They did what appeared to me to be a thorough inspection. The wrote everything down for me (what I needed to upgrade) they gave me some estimates, and then - I'm happy to say they were able to tell me an option that would cost less if I wanted to safely band-aid some of the bigger issues but needed something cheaper than full on re-wiring (which I was pretty sure my old house was going to need - but which I can't afford right now. So, I will do my due diligence and get quotes from other electricians, but because of the responsiveness and customer service, Quick is definitely a front-runner.

Nick, who is the owner, and his colleague Dave arrived ahead of schedule (to my delight). They quickly, thoroughly, and efficiently inspected the electrical system of my aging house. Throughout the inspection, they pointed out potential fire hazards and also recognized work that was left incomplete (according to building code standards) that a previous plumbing company had done in regards to my water heater. Nick and Dave are very knowledgeable. I greatly appreciated their feedback regarding changes/upgrades that could be done to make my house more safe and reduce energy consumption. I will call them back to perform more work.

We bought the big deal from Angieslist, $49 for the whole house electric system inspection provided by Quick Electric. Old houses always have problems here and there and people tend to fix them step by step. So when the previous owner left, we think it is better to get an idea on the status of the critical systems for the house, including the electric. We saw the big deal, thought it fits our bill, so here comes the Quick Electric. Nick is the owner. He came here with another expert on time (I would say that based on my record, a day earlier, in fact, but I'm not quite sure and it does not bother me). He spent about an hour to inspect everything and explained all the problematic areas to me in great details. He is patient and will answer all your stupid questions. They will give you a report that lists all the problems you needs to fix and will tell you what are the most urgent ones if you are tight on budget. They are all nice guys and know their jobs. We haven't got a quote from them so not sure whether they are pricey. But for the big deal and the inspection, they did the job well and we really appreciate their help.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. I wasn't real happy with Quick Electric Service. He said a couple of things that were incorrect. He made it sound like I had to make some purchases that were quite expensive and they actually weren't necessary. I sold the house later and had another inspector come through and he told me that wasn't true. He told me that the circuit panel in the garage was not grounded and I needed to put in a large copper pipe to ground the house. When he walked into my house he told me I had to have smoke detectors built into the wall. I knew that in older homes that the battery operated smoke detectors worked fine. I was a little bothered by that. I was a little bit leery because of those two items.

Quick Electric was very prompt and flexible (even when I had to re-schedule at the last minute). They were always available by phone for any questions or issues. They arrived promptly at the agreed upon appointment time and were friendly and professional. They obviously know what they are doing and gave me great tips to protect my house from "shortcuts" that were taken by the original builders. They took their time walking through all the areas of my house, opened outlets to check wiring, confirmed the loads on my outlets and pointed out where I needed to make repairs or replacements. I was expecting them to push additional sales/service, but I was pleasantly surprised that they pointed out things that did not need fixing, things that I could fix on my own and also things that they could do for me .. this didn't feel like a sales call. I would absolutely call them again.
Description of Work: Quick Electric performed an inspection of my entire house, starting from the outside (where electricity enters the house) and in each room (bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, family room, etc.). They tested the electical outlets and wiring to ensure they were up to the most recent California building code requirements.

The inspection went very well. They were very curteous and professional. I asked them to remove their shoes to inspect our upstairs bedrooms and bath rooms, and they removed their shoes !
Description of Work: Quick Electric arrived for the inspection on time. I wanted to know if my house was properly grounded. Quick Electric took the time and effort to show me how my home was properly grounded. They checked my electrical outlets to determine if my electrical circuits were overloaded. They appreciated that I provided easy access to the outlets to facilitate their inspection. They provided a written list of the GFIC's I needed and well as how to properly ground my water heater. .

The end result: I need lots of additional GFI?s but no major problems were identified. Additionally Nick did take the time to assess and offer informal price quotations for two jobs not related to this inspection. In summary I believe they did a pretty thurough inspection. Were very approachable and quite knowledgeable in their craft.
Description of Work: Review for Nick Panescu (owner) and Dave (assistant) Nick and Dave from Quick Electric arrived 30 minutes early. A plus if you like promptness. I was just starting my shower and asked if they would mind waiting which they readily agreed. Thru the entire Inspection which took approximately 1 hour they seemed very accommodating and flexible. When we started the tour Nick asked what the square footage of the house which was 40000 sq feet. He stated “Normal we charge for over 3000 sq. ft. but we’re here now” and with that he waived the extra charge. This was a nice but I think also an expedient gesture given that there was nothing in the original Angie’s List offer (http://deals.angieslist.com/deal/last-chance-49-for-whole-house-electrical-inspecti/?storefrontitemid=xynVQxb5neanGq3CDSlXfQ%3d%3d&source=16&storefrontitemid=127097&source=16&cid=TBD_Standard_20130215&RefID=EML%3a998) indicating a 3000 sq. foot limit. They started with the main breaker panel and worked their way through the house using an AC circuit load tester. Along the way they looked for checked for items listed in the Angie’s list deal: This Deal Includes: Checking for proper placement of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms -- They spotted placement problem in a lower stair well and gave some useful advice on wire systems Testing all alarms -- Didn’t test any units but made a random recommendation to replace the battery in one unit which turned out to be OK. Checking all electrical panels, main breakers, and circuit breakers -- This they did a through job by visual inspection. No breakers were flipped on or off. Testing all outlets for proper operation and safety -- This they accomplished using an handy “AC circuit load tester.” The tester can a**** the voltage and Impeadance imbalances on active AC wiring and with a skilled operator detect wiring faults with reasonable accuracy. Note: Not every wall plug needs to be checked just one or two plugs in a circuit. Inspecting water heater, air-conditioner, and furnace disconnects to make sure they can be safely disconnected during an emergency -- They looked a both for both items heater and Checking GFIs and ARC fault breakers -- Checked and test most of the GFI’s in the house and recommended many more. Evaluating electrical service cable and grounding system -- Did note that I had an Aluminum grounding strap from the Earth to my main breaker box panel. Suggested a solution. 10% off additional work with this Big Deal purchase. -- The didn’t push for any fixes so I haven’t may an purchase as yet. Providing a post-inspection report identifying areas of safety concern ONLY. -- Provided a clearly hand written report with some cryptic descriptors. Partly my fault for not asking for a more complete explanation but called him back and got a more detail and satisfactory answer The end result: I need lots of additional GFI’s but no major problems were identified. Additionally Nick did take the time to assess and offer informal price quotations for two jobs not related to this inspection. In summary I believe they did a pretty thurough inspection. Were very approachable and quite knowledgeable in their craft.

It went okay. At first they were easy to contact, the communication was good, but toward the end of the project I could not get ahold of them and they wouldn't return calls, I couldn't get ahold of them for over a week. They installed the dimmer switch upside down and tried to tell me I was using it wrong, and that is an issue of integrity. I wouldn't recommend them.
Description of Work: Installed two dedicated lines, LED can lights over the shower, three switches, one bathroom fan, and sconce lighting.
