Island Screening and Repair ( Screen Repair )

Called this business three times over a period of a couple weeks for pool enclosure screen repair. Not one return call did I receive. Business must be awfully good but that is no excuse for being so discourteous to not return a call.

Mr. Watson replaced 5 lanai screen panels at $40/ea and gave me a 10% quantity discount for a total of $180 on Friday 10/23. He did a wonderful job and was very pleasant. However, it turned into a nightmare. I asked if he repaired window screens and he said yes, $40 each. Before he left, he took 13 ea. 32x33 half window screens and I told him there was no hurry because I really didn?t need them until spring. Discussing this later with friends, they said ?$40 to replace window screening is ridiculous.? On further investigation, I contacted Ace Hardware and they charge $18/screen and 1st Coast Home Pros is $25/screen! I contacted Mr. Watson and asked, ?why am I paying $40?? He said, ?it?s because I charge for pickup (he was already at my home when he took them, and his business supposedly is in the same community about 2 miles from me), delivery, cleaning and reinstalling. That was what I agreed to pay so that was the charge and the work was done. If I could find someone else with the same service, he would match the price.? When he quoted the price he never gave me the option of delivering, picking up, cleaning and reinstalling them myself. Since I?m in and out all day, I called and left a message telling him I didn?t need to be here when he brought the screens back so do whatever, his check would be under my door mat. I was completely disgusted but I knew I had agreed to pay the charge so I was on the hook for it. I came home, the screens were piled at my front door, they were not my idea of clean (he merely wiped them off) and obviously not installed. End result is I?m cleaning them two at a time with Lestoil and reinstalling them myself. I spent $477 (10% quantity discount given and included $10 for a frame) for pieces of screen to be installed in frames. Buyer beware! He was new on Angie?s List with no reviews. Just because they?re on Angie?s List doesn?t mean they have good business practices. I checked with the insurance company he said his business was covered by and the policy is for Newdina Ventures LLC, lawn services, his name or company name do not appear anywhere in the policy. Never jump into anything without further investigation and check all references.
