Better Builders

Left several voice messages, no response. When I did actually talk to him, we made an appointment, he did not show up nor did he call. Didn't bother to call later. Complete waste of my time.

He did not charge us - AGAIN! What a great guy, skilled, professional, we will use him to do the repairs when needed.

Did an excellent job. Work was completed in a very short time. His work aided us in having our home inspected and we received a $400 per year savings on our home insurance policy. The work was good enough for us to have him build a wood deck on the back of our house.

Better Builders gave a quote using inferior materials that was nearly double Louis Walker Roofing (LWR). A disappointing and unprofessional tactic was that he said he would cut his price by $1,000 if we signed right away. LWR, for $6,000, did an excellent job using quality 35 year architectural shingles. They were punctual, professional and did all that they said they would do, including removing a chimney and replacing rotted boards. They even did an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves.

He had a good price and I liked the guy. I wanted to use him. I think he was real knowledgeable and he seemed to know what he was talking about and was real helpful. I recommend him. I would have used him if I hadn't gone with somebody else.

Lloyd is the owner of Better Builders and does almost all of the work himself. He assisted me at Home Depot with designing kitchen renovation which was huge considering the layout of the kitchen was completely changed. Nothing was a problem to him, even moving the fridge plumbing and all of the electrical per my hopes and expectations for the newer design. This took a couple of two hour sittings and required someone who understood probability and outcome which I did not. Lloyd was incredibly helpful and PATIENT, I never felt rushed and he even encouraged me to wait and take my time thinking about what what I really wanted. Lloyd installed the new cabinets as well as my farmhouse sink which challenged installing a disposal. It took 4 hrs to install it but he never gave up and I appreciate it, especially each time I forget to check for utensils and ruin another fork LOL. He installed subway tile backsplash and despite his reservations always did it my way. I wanted no granite on the back splash which is a newer trend to increase the space between counter and cabinet for height. It also cuts costs! Lloyd gutted the master bath back to the studs, removed the ceiling and again reconfigured EVERYTHING using the large jetted tub area as space to create space to build an additional half bathroom accessible from the living area. This required jackhammering extensively for new plumbing locations. the washer/dryer remained in the same area of master bath but I got stackables which he installed himself. He has an excellent understanding of space and designed the bathroom as we stood there and talked. The shower was moved across the room, vanity removed and replaced not to mention the completely new bathroom he added from nothing. He built all of the new walls, ceiling, electrical and plumbing. Excellent. The original fireplace mantle and shelving were very basic, he removed them and built new per my specifications with a couple of great additional ideas. They are ceiling to floor shelves and cabinets, truly beautiful and everyone who comes in remarks on how grand they look. Lloyd mentioned Home Depot had kitchen cabinets on sale so I bought those for the bottom part. They look great and saved me alot of $$. He also removed an attached screen porch and repaired the siding. He installed my storm door, new light fixtures throughout. Lloyd is a gentleman, very cheerful and easy to work with. He did alot of things that were not on my list and was always very gracious. My only complaint (wouldn't be realistic if I didn't have one) is once the project was 95% complete he got distracted with other jobs and had trouble getting back to finish up details. However, each time he comes back to do a tweak here and there he always ends up doing more and NEVER complains. He did say he won't do subway tile in a shower my size again and I wouldn't ask him to. It wasn't his primary skill set but it looks good anyway, he can do whatever he sets his mind to. Lloyd's price was based on labor. I paid for ALL supplies from grout to electrical outlets to faucets and toilets. Clearly this was a huge project, I am very happy with the final result and appreciate all of Lloyd's efforts. The wood floor guy I hired LIED to me saying Lloyd was going to finish the details so I paid him and let him go. Lloyd had told him no such thing but he graciously finished the flooring work for the lying jerk. This made me appreciate Lloyd's work ethic once again, very glad I found Lloyd on Angie's list!!!

Lloyd Dean responded my call within hours. He totally understood our roofing situation and made an appointment to complete a free estimate. He arrived on time and was very professional. Mr. Dean clearly explained the results of his inspection and had an estimate to us within days. He came to the house to explain the estimate and was very honest about potential costs that couldn't be estimated until the work was underway. It was clear that Mr. Dean knows everything about roofing and the roofing industry. He provided information about options and never pushed his services (avoided the "hard" sell). We signed a contract without hesitation and never regretted it. He and his crew were thoughtful, professional, on-time and always cleaned up the debris at day's end.When wood rot was discovered, Mr. Dean explained the problem, remedy and cost invovled. He let us know what we could do ourselves to save on costs. He was really great to work with and understood our budget and tried to work out solutions to stay within it. The work is done, and the roof looks amazing. Better Builders exceeded our expectations and we look forward to working with them again on two smaller structures that will need roofing in a few years.

Though I did not use Better Builder's for these jobs, simultaneously we found we needed more immediate and crucial work completed on the house requiring more specialized experts, Lloyd from BB was more than helpful in providing options for what could be done in the remodel and the names of contacts and subcontractors such as electricians, plumbers etc

Better Builders (BB) really solved our problem. I had a flat roof; I tried everything to keep that area dry. As a preventive measure, at one point, I substituted the gravel roof for a torched down flat roof. The preventive work was a disaster because what I feared most finally happened. I had a leak inside my sunroom. Apachee Roofing made a mistake in the sealing process and they had to come and do it again, but the damage was done. It went from prevention to repair mode in one day, one mild rain. Second time around, I decided not to make the same mistake, I joined Angie`s list. After a number of visits from other roofers, Better Builders came across as ready, knowledgeable, organized and with reasonable pricing. I had stratospheric estimates reaching $ 20,000, but BB fixed my flat roof giving it a slope, insulating it and they also did additional work around my chimney by sealing it and by designing a new aluminum cap for it, all for $ 7,200 with the Angie`s list discount (I paid extra for the insulation materials and custom-built chimney cap). I cannot believe I can, actually, say:’ I am happy with my roof. I did not have to worry about permits or inspections. The job site was clean and they even brought a portable toilet unit for the workers. All in all, a great experience. The only bad experience is Angie`s list itself. The system is annoying with undesired emails coming to you all the time. I almost cancelled my account. They are really bad addressing specific issues because the system seems to be all automated. Do not ever save a review as draft, they will remind you every day until you die. They are NOT there yet; it is not like being a member of the Amazon.com family.

The weather did not cooperate as we had rain every day for over a week from when I first contacted Mr. Dean. He came the first day that rain was not predicted and completed the repair the same day. The repair appears to be an improvement over the original flue enclosure which I had built many years ago. I do not expect it to leak during my life time. Mr Dean matched the shingles very well so that the area where the shingles were replaced on the new section of roof deck is not noticeable. When the new fireplace flue enclosure on the roof is painted it will look very nice.

Lloyd was responsive to all our questions. He was polite. He was punctual. He did some extra work that was not part of the original estimate at no extra cost. I would highly recommend him to others.

The only issue that we had was due to the weather not cooperating. Lloyd made sure that the roof was water tight under a tarp while the new interior was being done so that it would not ruin the new drywall. Once the weather cleared up, Lloyd and Jeff both worked on the roof themselves to make sure that it was done as fast as possible. the first day they had the old roof off, new decking on and the first layer of the roof. It was then tarped overnight and the second day they applied the torch down top layer and rebuilt the fascia and eaves around the roof. Everything was done to code, permitted, and passed inspection. At the end of everything they even hauled off the debris from when I did the interior work! Overall Lloyd was the most responsive roofer/general contractor I have had the pleasure to deal with. He made sure that even when things got behind schedule, due to factors outside of our control, that the work was done as soon as possible and that the work was top-notch. I have recommended him to many coworkers and family in the area that are looking to do work because of the great work done on this job and his professionalism and responsiveness.

Over all he is the best of the best for any of your construction needs. He is resonable and will work for you at what price you can pay.

Lloyd had an issue at another job and rather then reschedule us, he came out and did the work himself. Work looks great and so far no leaks. Lloyd said he gaurantees the labor and material for a year that there would be no leaks ;)Once he started the work he found some extra wood-rot and took care of it without raising the charge.

Shingles were replaced and new vent boots installed. Everything went very well.

Lloyd the roofer came to estimate the services just one day after called, and the price was right. He said he would be back in a week and instead took 3 weeks, with only one call to announce tardiness. I had to call him two days after the missing the prior date.

It was raining in my kitchen. I called Better Builders and they came out the very next day. It was explained to me that my roof was very old and would need replacing in the next year or two, but that a patch and repair would work for the current problem. I very much appreciated that he was honest with me and did not try to "sell" me on something that I did not need at that moment. He put a temporary patch in place and came back to do the full repair the very next day. I will definitely call Better Builders when I need that new roof.

The door looks great and we are happy customers. I have now asked Lloyd to replace my exterior kitchen door and we are waiting on the price. I am also getting a quote for a screen room added on the back of our house. I believe that if you use Better Builders for most of your roofing and building needs you will be happy with the quality of work you get for your money.

I think they were great! We worked with Lloyd Dean directly throughout the entire project. He was on the job every day, and was very pleasant to deal with. His crew was consistently punctual, and finished the job on time. I’d give them A+s across the board if I could. In fact, we plan on hiring them again in the future for flooring work.

I contacted Lloyd the owner of Better Builders as I used his son in law a year ago for some work to be done on my home and I was pleased. Lloyd came and gave my husband and I an estimate. We also got another estimate from another roofing company, but was pleased with Lloyd. Him being a christian man was a plus for us. We were told it would take about 4-6 days to do the job and it took about 6 days to complete the work. There were 4 men that came out to do the work and they were all very nice and professional. They cleaned up every day at the end of the day. All nails that fell on the ground were picked up with a roll magnet. There was no damage to any of my plants or flowers which was a big plus. My roof on the house and gazebo looks great. Lloyd and his crew did a great job. I have Lloyd returning to do some more work on my home such as replacing a new double door. Lloyd was also helpful in providing some names of other contractors such as painters, etc. I think you would be pleased if you use this company.

I was very pleased with this company. Lloyd was prompt in returning my calls and very helpful with selecting different options for me. My roof was completed in 2 work days and there was a lot of repair done as well. It came in over estimate because of the extended rotted wood that needed to be replaced, but it was well worth it. I'm very happy and ready for hurricane season. I was amazed at how clean they left my yard. Job well done!!!

Frankly, I had dreaded having this work done because I had no knowledge of roofing companies and had heard a number of "horror" stories. I looked in Angie's List and found a listing for a firm in Crawfordville, Florida. (This was a forerunner of Better Builders, Inc.) The rating was excellent and I phoned for an estimate, which was executed in a timely fashion. The estimate and the final cost (with all the needed wood rot replacement on the roof) were spot on. This is an excellent, reliable and trustworthy company and I give it my highest rating! Their work was superior in every aspect of the project!
