It was not easy to find a reliable company that would save the bees that had set up a colony on my property. Unfortunately, Angie's List does not have a separate listing for beekeepers or environmentally sound bee removal. I found this company listed under Pest Control, which pretty much means killing the bees. I know how important it is to save the bees, so it was worth searching for it. Before this, I only chose A rated companies, but there were enough good reviews of Eco Bee Removal for me to call the owner. We had a good discussion about what needed to be done and how they would do it. I emailed a photo of the 3' x 3' x 3' container that the bees had taken over, and he gave me an estimate of the cost and what factors would determine the final cost, so I set up an appointment. His two sons arrived early, but luckily I did, too. Several hours later the bees were carefully vacuumed up and put in containers for their trip to their new territory. They removed the hive and took that with them to put out for the colony to populate there. The bill was within the estimate and in accord with the guidelines that had been discussed. I do not really know if this actually an "excellent" price, but I am satisfied with the price for the work done. All of my questions were answered before the sons left, and I knew just what to expect concerning the few bees that remained.
Description of Work: Removed a bee colony and the beehive from my property and transported them to a wooded area so they could continue pollinating and producing honey without stinging me or my neighbors.

Thank you for choosing live bee removal. I have not advertised with Angies list for the reasons you stated, they want to put me with pest control companies and I only do live removal. Maybe you could contact Angies and tell them to support Live bee removal. Blessings, Steve

I was scared to go in my yard because the bees (wasps) were buzzing around a plant that produced flowers. There were so many wasps on this plant, that it looked like a swarm. I was scared to even walk around in my yard. I found Steve's company online and rushed to call him. He told me to send him a picture of the wasp on my plants and he explained in a very informative way what kind of wasp they were and the product I could purchase to keep them away. Unfortunately I could purchase the spray he wanted me to use, so I had my lawn guy use cans of wasp spray to keep the wasp at bay while he cut down my plants. As someone new to Steve, he treated me on the phone as if he knew me for years. I highly recommend him to anyone who has problems with bees, wasp and any stinging bug. He didn't need to come to my residence because I didn't have a hive or more than a few wasp. Glad to have met you on the phone Steve and thanks for all of your help and calming me down.

Description of Work: It was a phone call that was a very very informative. He said he did not need to come out unless the bees I had didn't leave. He predicted they would leave and they did. He gave me a lot more information than this and I was happy for his quick response.

John Harrison was the bee removal expert and he did a great job rescuing the hive to take it to an apiary. He climbed from the roof to the tree on a ladder, carefully cut away smaller branches and removed the hive intact. He educated us on the service and bee behavior during and after the hive removal and made sure we were safe. Great work and great way to save the bees.

John is a great guy and we are very proud of him as a part of our team. He loves to save bees and has a great relationship with beekeepers often going over their house late in the evening after to work to make sure the bees get a new home. Thanks for using Eco Bee, blessings, Steve

They arrived on time and had the job done within a couple of hours. I got some pictures of the bee hive they found (and relocated) along with the resident bees. He was extremely professional and described what was to be done and what was doe as well as what to expect in the following days. I have a few bees still in the area but it appears that the hive and swarm are gone. The fee was on the low end of the potential costs and the bees were relocated rather than exterminated, so we were very happy with the results.

Untrue completely. Unusual 3 story house over water, no access. We were hired to remove ONE hive with agreement that High lift equipment be on site and ready. When we arrived the equipment was not ready we had to move huge, heavy equipment with our bodies across shrubs, rocks and planters, painful and difficult, so yes, I was not too happy but there is more. Then there was not ONE but TWO colonies and she knew that there were two. We removed the one we were hired for perfectly but the other was in a third story roof/wall not reachable by the equipment because of the water. It required an exterminator and we don't kill bees. The colony we removed was removed alive and expertly. We removed ALL of it and she paid us ALL what we quoted not HALF and we did not even charge her for moving the equipment. There were two colonies rather than one, completely different locations (by 30 ft) and suggesting I did half a job is flat out false and she knows better. This is only one of two colonies in my career we could not reach or help with. Look at my reviews and I will trust you to make your own conclusions Ecobeeremoval.com "Save bees and bee blessed!"

The first time they were supposed to come the truck broke down. Then they were supposed to come the next day and he called me in the afternoon around 5 instead of the morning, he offered to come but it would have been dark soon. Then he was supposed to come the following 2 days later. I never heard from them until the next day after when he was supposed to come. After that I have never heard from them again.
Description of Work: I called them to come out and remove honey bee's and take them to a new area since they are a non-kill organization.

rI spoke with Steve about an recent situation with bees swarming... Very ethical and professional... He even suggested to wait and see if the situation resolves by itself... He cared more about solving the problem that making money... Bees are in danger right now (that risks the food chain, agriculture, etc) and we wanted an ethical company that relocates them -and that is exactly what Steve does... They relocate them or give them to a beekeeper...

Poorly. He did not remove the entire hive leaving a disaster. I do not believe he was properly licensed. The Department of Agriculture should enforce and/or have stricter licensing regulations to insure that pest control companies and bee removal companies do their jobs properly.
Description of Work: Steve Behnke (EcoBee) was hired to remove bees which were in the soffet of my rental property. He was confident in his ability and his website was impressive, so when he assured me that if he couldn't get rid of the bees he would not charge me, I believed him. He asked me to have my pest control company treat the area the day before the removal. He then came to my property with his young son (whom I was surprised wasn't in school). He used our ladder and claimed to have put the bees in a closed bucket. When he was done he said he'd give me a $20 discount if I'd pay in cash so he wouldn't have to go to the bank. When I returned with the cash he didn't have a receipt so he said he'd email me one. The receipt had a guarantee against re-infestation for one year. My tenants complained a week later that the bees were still there and getting into the bedroom. I called him and he was to meet me at the property a few days later at 4:00 p.m. He didn't arrive at 4 but I continued calling him to ascertain his time of arrival since I wanted to know how he'd handle the matter. He kept delaying. Finally, after dark I thought I'd go over there - perhaps he might be arriving late. As my husband and I arrived, he was pulling away quickly. So I called him again. (I didn't see how he could've seen anything it was so dark). He said it was just some straggler bees and I could expect them to be there 4-6 months. I asked him when I'd be able to close up the soffet and he said after the bees left. A few months later my tenant called me and said the bees were still there and had never left and what was I going to do about it. I called him and he denied that these were the same bees. He said to check the next week and call him back and let him know. I called him back. He yelled at me, said that I knew the receipt was just "for tax purposes," hung up on me, said it was my fault, asked to speak with my husband, and said that he'd come back next time he was in the area. Since then I have contacted a professional bee removal company as well as the Department of Agriculture and convinced by both that he did not perform the job properly. My expenses now are upwards of $2,000 and continuing. I am concerned that others will fall for his deceptive advertising. A painful lesson I hope no one else will have to experience.

Response from Eco Bee Removal
The member called me and asked for bees to be removed. She had already called a spray service multiple times to have them killed but it did not work, now bees were angry and everywhere. I never told her to have her pest control company to spray again, this is the absolute opposite of what I tell people as it makes my job more difficult, as you want bees to be happy and in a nice little ball to catch, not flying everywhere. I told her to leave them alone in fact. She is not telling the truth. go to my website and read for yourself of the many testimonies of our commitment bees and to education and ask yourself if you think we would have said such a thing. Here are the facts: She had an old two story home and I told her she needed a lift for the work to be performed properly When I arrived to her house it was discovered that there was no way to get a lift into the yard. It was very high up and we do not carry ladders that go up that high, too dangerous. But she said she was in a real dilemma and asked could I help her as she had a complaining renter, liability and possible law suit concerning bees. She offered her ladder to use , old and rickety. I said it was very dangerous to work off her really old ladder but I would perform a removal only of the bees, as there was extensive dry rot and damage, and that I would not risk my life to do repairs.(her rental was in total disrepair) I told her she would have to close up the area right away, as the smell of the old hive would bring other bees to live there again soon. She asked me again, if she could contract me to do the needed repairs, but I declined as there was extensive dry rot and they had clearly not been taking care of the old place. The place where the bees were was a termite eaten old wood soffet with holes everywhere and the whole thing had to be replaced. I told her I did not want to risk my life doing such a job off a ladder. I also told her that although the bee colony and queen was removed it is common for there to be a few bees left over as its impossible to catch them all (especially when she had them sprayed and scattered) and to call me if there was a problem. She did call me soon after and said there were indeed some bees gathered , and I went back “at night” because that makes it easier to catch the rest of the bees, as bees do not fly in the dark. So up on her scary ladder again, this time in the dark, and I removed them all. I did not have an appointment and I never have a customer there while I am working, especially at night, with no bee suit, liability issues, its foolish. But she did meet me in the road as I was leaving and I urged her again to get the area closed up quickly and if there was a problem to call me. She said I gave here a year guarantee. This is false. I guarantee what I close up only. She has a receipt for removal and no signed contract for repair or guarantee that bees would not return. Its foolish, no one would offer such a thing. I told her she was being dishonest, and that she knew there was no guarantee and that I only guarantee “what I close up”. I told her if she had any problems closing things up I would have come back a dozen times for stragglers except for the fact she left the area open, in “swarming season” and now two months later was expecting me to risk my life, climb her ladder again, to catch a new swarm of bees because she did not do her part to close it up. I told her she was not rational and please let me talk to her husband (someone who has up to this point been always mute and in the background) she was incredulous that I would even suggest such a thing, so I ended the conversation. Normally my policy is the "customer is always right", I have only had two complaints ever, in 29 years, but because she was dishonest I did not want to reward her, especially when I had already risked my life twice to help her. What would you do? Should we reward evil? Its awkward. I do not know if she is just a calculated liar or has some sort of mental problem, in either case, in retrospect it would have been better to give her her money back. Not worth $475 to a soil an otherwise spotless reputation. I never had a problem with the Dept of Ag before this and now, after discussing this particular issue with the Inspector, I still don't. I never told her bees would still be there from 4 to 6 months later, I would be out of business if I said things like that. Who would agree to such a deal? Think about that statement. Why would I remove bees and tell customers they should expect to still have bees from 4 to 6 months later? Would you go for such a deal, does that make sense? Bees only live 4 weeks! I have hundreds of customers and 3 technicians who will testify as to how ludicrous of a statement this is, it is not even logical. I appreciate her making it though, as it pretty much puts everything into perspective. Liar or crazy, you be the judge. I think she just wanted someone to pay for her inability to follow thru, its probably not the first time. I will gladly give you references anytime of our commitment to bees and to our clients. I am sorry for her and hope she finds peace in her life. As for my son working with me, he is homeschooled and learning a trade, something valuable in this bad economy. I have homeshooled all my kids, some of which are in college, and one is a nurse. Thank You Angie's list for allowing your valued service providers like Eco Bee Removal to respond. Its often assumed that if someone makes a claim it must be valid. But a for profit forum such as this can be used to extort money as well. That is tragic when you consider that those of us committed to the survival of bees on the planet and educating the next generation should suffer damage to our reputation in this way.

Steve came to look at thew job. The beehive was approximately 35 feet high in an oak tree near the end of a limb. He determined that we would need a 40 foot lift. I agreed to provide one. He called back a few days later that he could come by that afternoon. I got the lift, he came by with his son Sam, they went up in the lift and removed the bee hive without the bees swarming. He said they would relocate the hive in woods near his place.
Description of Work: Removed and relocated a very large honey bee hive.
