I contacted Plaspro and received some good words, but that did not fix the defective door or encourage Bulldog to make any corrections. The BBB, and Seniors vs. Crime tried to encourage Bulldog to correct the problems but Bulldog was totally unresponsive. I contacted the Department of Business and Professional Regulation assuming that being the state licensing agency they could apply some pressure - wrong - they informed me that they could not help. Be very careful, Florida does a great job to prevent the consumer from taking advantage of the contractor; however, consumer you are basically on your own.
Description of Work: I Contracted with Bulldog Windows and doors.Inc (Mr. Martin Pilat) to have three exterior entrance doors and one French door set. All three-entrance doors were installed poorly with weather stripping not sealing the doors. One of the exterior doors was defective and Bulldog replaced it, unfortunately with another defective door. I would also be very cautious of Plaspro products.

After installation I found that one of the Plaspro doors was defective and Bulldog, Martin Pilat, replaced it; unfortunately, with what appears to be another defective door. A few days after Bulldog replaced the first defective door, I noticed that the door did not contact the weather stripping all the way along the latch side of the door. I also noticed that, when the sun shown on the door, there appeared to be a void in the insulation at the lower part of the door. This indicates to me that some of the insulation was missing. That was apparent because light was being transmitted through that portion of the door. I found that the two other doors also did not contact the weather stripping on the latch side of the door completely, as was the case with the defective door. I was able to correct one of the weather-stripping problems by removing some of the improperly installed caulk. I sent a series of pictures by e-mail to Bulldog and Plaspro. Bulldog replied with what was to be his cell phone, but that never answered and he never replied to further calls with that number of his published number. I submitted a complaint with the BBB. They informed me that they would contact Mr Pilat but not to expect him to reply from. Infact BULLDOG WINDOWS and DOORS was dejected from BBB listings. I next contacted Plaspro they were vrey responsivewas very responsive. Their, Mr. Terry Mullen, analyses was that the door could be defective and they had no problem replacing it.They told me that they had contacted Bulldog and was assured that Bulldog would take care of it - didn't happen so far. I had assumed that the Plaspro French door was correct until I checked and found that the latch on the bottom of the fixed door was not properly positioned making it impossible to secure the bottom side of the door. The result of the PLASPRO experience amounted to the fact that they didn't care how installation was accomplished - they were selling doors. I then contact Seniors vs Crime which turned out to be an exercise in futility - no real help. I also contacted Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. It appears that they only license but do not enforce compliance.
Description of Work: On April 6, 2010, I paid BULLDOG WINDOWS and DOORS of Edgewater, FL $2830.00 in full for the purchase and installation of three Plaspro exterior slab doors and one Plaspro French door. The installers same on the designated and began to install the doors. I was a little concerned when I noticed that they were using bruteforce to get some of the doors into the openings. I now think that I should have stopped the installation when I first noticed that they were forcing the products into the opening, but I assumed that they correct any problems that would arise from their apparent lack of fine. A final inspection was performed by Ormond Beach, FL inspection department. I assumed again that the inspection was performed to insure that the installation met Ormond Beach code - not necessarily true.

Contractor did not return calls. Perhaps that was a good thing, as this demonstrates that he is not reliable.
Description of Work: There was no work performed. About four months ago I called Marty Pilat for an estimate on replacing a window and a sliding glass door in our condo. He measured and stated that he would get back to us the next day with an estimate. He did not call as promised. I called his business three times to ask for the estimate and to let me please know if he wants my business or not. He DID NOT even have the courtesy to return my calls. I hired Indian River Glass and needless to say, they were very efficient, polite and did an excellent job. By the way, I want Mr. Pilat to know that we have decided to get "ALL" of our windows replaced. Kristine Nickel
