I came home from work yesterday and found the AC unit that was installed 3 weeks ago not putting out cold air. Everything seemed to be working but it was 82 inside with 69% humidity. I called David the service manager and he sent out Robert the repair technician to take a look at the unit. He arrived about 1 hour after I called which was very fast. He diagnosed the problem in less than 5 minutes. It was a bad condenser contactor. Not sure how it failed so quickly but those things happen. The important thing is Dunedin Refrigeration was very fast to respond to and replace the contactor. thanks!
Description of Work: Replaced the contactor in the main unit.

We have used Dunedin for the past 20 years and they installed a new system about 15 years ago . We always have them check the system every spring and replace the unit filter. The past 3 years we have started having a few problems which they promptly fixed. This spring the tech on inspection advised that we should probably start thinking about a new system. Of course we thought we could get another year out of it. It. The system failed Aug 27th and would be about $1200 to repair so we were out of air overnight and Dan came 1st thing the 28th and gave us the 3 options for a new system and an explanation as to what the differences were and there was no high pressure sales pitch. Dan called and had a repairman come and jerry rig the system until the install date of Sept. 3rd. The crew arrived on time the 3rd and installed the new Lennox XP21 and by 5:00 pm we had the new system running and cooling our house The crew and everyone involved were very polite and professional and cleaned up after and David explaned the operation and new thermostat and the operation of the unit from my I-pad. I would highly recommend Dunedin Refrigeration to anyone that needs repairs or a new system.

My old AC unit was 11 years old, not installed correctly, underpowered and on its last leg. My electric bills were $440 the last 2 months. We recently purchased the home in June of 2014. On Friday, June 15th I called them to come look at the current system and give me a price on a replacement heat pump. Dan arrived promptly on Monday, June 18th. Dan looked at my old system setup, did some calculations on what I needed and scheduled me for installation on Thursday, June 21st. He listened to what I was looking for in terms of Seer rating and what equipment was in my budget. He worked up a few quotes right there, never asking me what other quotes I had received as another company had done. The price is the price. There no game playing asking me to divulge the other quote so he could 'adjust' his numbers. I appreciated that. Dan was very professional, polite and easy to talk to. We scheduled the installation for Thursday. Mike and Mitch, the installers, arrived promptly on Thursday at the time they said they would be there. It was a very hot day and they worked h****** the air handler in the attic, running new duct work, copper lines and removing the old unit. As soon as they saw they would not be able to finish that day they called for backups to come help so I would not be without AC until the following day. Three others arrived, including David the Service Manager. The new Lennox XP21 Heat Pump system was finished that evening. They installed the iComfort system which allows me to set the controls from my phone. They did an awesome job with the installation under some difficult heat conditions. Everything was thoroughly explained to me on how to operate the system. They took care of filling out the rebate forms for Lennox and Duke Energy. If you are looking for no nonsense, professional care, Dunedin Refrigeration is your company! We are very pleased.

A rental property we own required service on the AC unit. We contacted Dunedin Refrigeration and they responded immediately doing a full inspection of the unit and refilling the unit with Freon. They told us the unit was hanging on by a thread and if we were lucky we might make it thru the summer. Well our luck didn't hold and within 2 weeks we had them replace the entire system at a cost of $5100. They even credited us for the previous service visit. They did a complete inspection of the duct work as well. Unbeliveably 2 weeks later we walked into our home to discover the AC blower wasn't blowing. It was late afternoon on Friday but Dunedin Refrigeration came right out and rigged up something so we could get thru the weekend. We decided instead of replacing the air handler on our 15 yr old unit we would go with an entire new system at a cost of $7400. They showed up on Monday and installed new everything for us. These guys are hard, conscience workers. They were polite, courteous and did a bang up job at both homes off leaving the area clean. They are prompt and great with follow-up. They must do a lot of work in our neighborhood as we are always seeing their trucks driving through. We highly recommend Dunedin Refrigeration for your AC needs.

I was pleased starting with the first call to set an appointment. Jay came out and was friendly and took his time. For the first time since I bought the house 7 years ago, I felt like I got my money's worth on my A/C. I enjoyed speaking with him and got some great knowledge about my system - which no one really cared to do in the past. Even when I asked! I will likely get on an annual maintenance plan with them and will get an estimate to replace/resize (previous owner added to the house but didn't properly duct or size the system) in the future. Happy!

My home has two heat pump systems. This particular system is very old and the air handler has been significantly modified (when owned by the previous home owner), with no extant documentation, rendering it extremely difficult to troubleshoot (at best). Therefore, after appropriate exploration, effective advice with regard to my options was courteously and professionally given.
Description of Work: Dunedin Refrigeration responded quickly to my request for service and provided professional guidance with regard to my heat pump system. Given the age of the system, replacement will most likely occur soon and Dunedin Refrigeration will be the first vendor I contact.

They were prompt, courteous, efficient, and friendly. Everything was explained beforehand. They pulled the permits, and took care of everything with the highest degree of professionalism. I was blown away by their work! They cleaned up after themselves, and answered all my questions. The units needed to be replaced, and now my home is running quieter and much, much cooler. I am also thinking about putting in a whole house generator, and I would not consider using anyone else. My wife is particularly pleased with how the environment in the house has changed for the better.

I called them out and at first they send a technician who told me part of the problem was that my air conditioner wasn't installed correctly and there was a "bypass damper" missing. He also said there was a "kink" in my drain pipe that ran in the wall which was causing the water to back up, the unit was "tilted" and would have to be reinstalled properly and there was probably a problem with the coils as well. He was very nice and very professional and told me that repairs would probably run me about $2K. I asked him based on the age of the unit if it was worth it to try to fix it. He was honest and told me it depended on a few factors which we discussed. I told him that based on the age of the unit, I wanted a quote on a new unit. Then the salesman came out with another technician and said he would write me up a quote. He told me that he would have to take away half of my closet space to make a new unit work in that space. He also said they would have to install more vents into the bonus room in order to properly heat and cool that room. He left and told me to expect a quote next day. Two days passed and the problem with the until got worse to the point that the trickle of water coming from the unit was now more like a water fall in my living room. I called the company two more times over the course of three days begging for my quote. The girl who answered the phones said she didn't know why it was taking so long but she would pass the message on. I never received a quote or a call back and that was two weeks ago. I called Bay Area instead. They came out next day, provided me with a quote on a new unit while they were on site at my house and are installing my new unit the day after tomorrow. They also seem to be a lot more knowledgeable about AC units... they say there is nothing "kinked" in my ceiling, they don't have to take away any of my closet space to install the new unit and the bypass damper is there and it's functioning. Then they went around the house and pointed out mistakes that were made, by Dunedin Refrigeration, on the installation they had done for us on a single room air unit in the bonus room. Bay Area is going to reinstall that unit for us as well. They believe that the existing unit in that room will work fine once it's installed properly... additional vents are not required.
Description of Work: My air conditioner is 13 years old and has been leaking, causing water damage to my ceiling. They came out and inspected it. Then a sales team followed up for a quote on a new unit. I asked them to help me with some air/heating issues I had in my bonus room as well. Dunedin Refrigeration had installed a single room unit in that room several years earlier and it wasn't doing a very good job of cooling down that room.

Response from Dunedin Refrigeration
As a company that takes pride in always satisfying our customers, I was surprised to read this report. We responded to a service call at this residence and noted numerous issues with the main system, which we did not install and is approximately 13 years old. Our estimator was sent out, with our service manager, and they discussed the issues the customer was having with the present system. They informed the customer about the corrections that we would make with a new system to eliminate the problems she was encountering. There is a bypass damper in the present system, but it is installed in a vertical position which basically makes it inoperable since it opens and closes with a counterweight which needs to be installed horizontally to work. The bonus room didn't cool properly and with the new system the duct work would be balanced to increase airflow which could meet the cooling needs of the room. We recommended a replacement system and a replacement zoning system which would eliminate the use of the bypass damper. No additional space in the closet was needed for this system. We emailed the quote to the customer, as per their request, at the email address supplied. The only thing we can assume is that it went into junk mail or blocked mail as to why it was never received. The system we did install in the home, in January of 2008, was a ductless mini-split system which was installed as to applicable codes and manufacturer specifications at that time. The last service we did on that system was in 2009 so we were unaware of any issues with it since we had not been there in 4 years. Again., I am surprised at the report and if any of the items we covered with the customer were misunderstood I apologize. Our installations are permitted and installed per codes and manufacturers recommendations; I know this for a fact as I was a Service Consultant for one of the major manufacturer's years ago. Our technicians are NATE certified and constantly training thru the manufacturers to keep up to date on the latest equipment and service procedures. Thank you.

Having a need to replace the older, inefficient, underpowered AC units in our house I used the service providers listed in Angie's List as a starting point for my search. With my search narrowed down to six companies I started the dread process of getting job estimates from each. Two of the companies I interviewed had service techs come out who were more interested in getting my signature on their proposal/purchase agreements rather than listening to what I was wanting (I am not impressed with a stainless steel clad outside unit or listening to all of the components needed for an install being read off on a speakerphone). Two others, despite their expressed interest in wanting the job, never got back with me on what their estimates would be. The last two companies sent out professional representatives who listened to me about what I wanted, took time to answer my questions, and provided proposals for two nearly identical costing, high efficiency units. At this point it came down to a question of which company I wanted to go with. As Dunedin Refrigeration had done satisfactory service work for me in the past, I went with them. With the challenges of a 25+ year old home whose original AC system had the house built around it, the installation job took two days to complete. The work team was courteous and professional, took care to ensure drop cloths were used to protect the hardwood floors and carpeted stairs, and got the job done. For my home office with its having a computer running almost continuously, a second vent was added to the room to provide extra cooling. With the original copper lines being undersized to what the new upstairs unit needed, some creative engineering was used as a solution to re-route the new copper (and the general contractor brought in at no additional cost professionally covered the lines' new route in the bedroom's corner). At the end of the second day I had been walked through the operation of the new touchpad thermostats and had two new high efficiency heat pumps cooling and dehumidifying my house. All in all, working with Dunedin Refrigeration was a very positive experience and I would highly recommend them to others. Thank you...

The installation was fine. The only frustration I has was: A little less than a year later the condensate drain stopped working--not especially an unusual occurrence, but there is a switch which should shut the system down .when this happens. That failed to work. When I called the service person, he fixed it, but I was charged for it. I thought that should be covered by the one year warrantee and I brought that up. He said that was a part supplied by an outside vender and it was not covered.

I am sorry that this customer was upset concerning the cost of the repair of his air conditioner. Our service techs consult with the customer letting them know the cost of the repair prior to performing the repair. This service was performed on a Friday evening between 8 and 9PM which accounts for part of the cost as it was after hours. If the customer was upset I wish he had contacted the office and I would have gladly talked with him concerning the cost.

From start to finish, the approach was unsatisfactory given that we were long-time clients, and have had service completed by Dunedin Refrigeration since 2002, and own two houses. Treated us as if we were untrustworthy, yet we are retired professionals, and paid them the $89 immediately, upon request on Monday, after they woke us up at 7:45 am in a belligerent manner. On Friday, we asked another company, Tom Moore, to diagnose the situation, and will probably have them conduct the repairs and replacement, only because the service by Dunedin Refrigeration was both unprofessional and rude. The service at 7:45 am Monday morning included demanding money upfront in a belligerent manner for needed repair and service on the system not yet fully diagnosed. Tom Moore company diagnosed the system as most likely a leak in the coil or perhaps elsewhere and will complete the diagnosis today. A decision will be made on the next step after the diagnosis, which may require a complete overhaul of the system installed by Dunedin Refrigeration. Dunedin Refrigeration did not treat us with respect nor with trust, did not treat us fairly, did not treat us as if they wanted to solve the air conditioner problem, did not appear to want to solve the problem, and made us feel worthless. We asked Tom Moore who was our second choice to work on solving the air conditioner problem. We have never worked with a company as disorganized and unprofessional as Dunedin Refrigeration. We are good clients.

We responded to a service call at his rental house on Friday at which time the service tech determined that the system had a refrigerant leak. The owner was notified what the problem was and how much it would cost to find the leak. The owner did not want the leak test done so we left the job. Our office called him to collect the diagnostic fee and he hung up on us. The customer was informed when scheduling the call that there would be a diagnostic fee due at the time of the service call and that we would call him to get the charge card information. The following day, Saturday, the owner called our answering service due to the fact that the other company he called had not shown up yet. Our technician, who happened to be the one that was there the previous day, informed him that there was a balance due and he would have to get authorization to go to the call and that we would call him first thing Monday morning to collect the amount due and to schedule the call. On Monday morning we called and let him know that he would have to pay for the initial service first at which time he told us that he would call Channel 8 because he felt we did not diagnose the problem. We explained that if he paid for the initial call we would come out and perform the work. My dispatcher transferred the call to the General Manager whom he told that we were unprofessional and gave the phone to his wife. The procedure was explained to her and she said she understood and gave the phone back to her husband who still expressed his dissatisfaction with having to pay for our initial service. Eventually he gave us the credit card information to cover the diagnostic fee and told us that he would call if he needed us. He then sent an email to us claiming that we were unprofessional and the next thing we heard was this report. We feel that we performed properly in this instance, the customer was informed of the cost of the service call, we quoted him for the repair and were told to not continue, we called for our payment and were hung up on, and we returned his call on Monday morning first thing as requested.
