He was very pleasant, friendly, and professional. Some confusion with the appointment time - I was told I'd have an 8:30 am appt, but when no one showed up, I was told the appt was for 2 pm - but the gentleman arrived early and completed the work within the allotted time. Identified some other roof issues as well.

A good handyman is hard to find, this is one. Mr. VJ Singh of Mr. Handyman of South Palm Beach is highly professional, well organized, flexible and great to work with. I will absolutely hire him and will request his representative Ivan again. I had to change my dates a couple of times for rain (the carpet had to be cut in the driveway) and he was most obliging. He sent Ivan to perform the scheduled work. He was a well spoken adult, very professional, clearly experienced and knowledgeable. He even graciously provided guidance and work ethic to my friend's teenage son who had agreed to assist (although his help was not needed--it was a favor to his father--Ivan tolerated his teenage insolent behavior politely). I have used Angie's list many times. When I was searching for a handyman, I found Mr. Handyman of South Palm Beach and saw there was an "F" rating. I read the review and I read Mr. Singh's response. I hired him because of that dialogue. I told him exactly this: "Anyone can deal with an A rating, it takes a great professional to deal with an F." I felt confident that the bad review was illustrative of the user, not the provider. Having used Mr. Singh's service, I know I was absolutely correct in my assessment. I highly recommend this company and the personnel. The professionalism stands out in the South Florida sea of handyman yahoos that don't show up, don't call and do crappy work. This company truly will show up and produce. Their pricing structure is unique and quite fair. Make a big list, it works in your favor price-wise to have as much done as possible at one time. I will be renting my house soon and will need some upgrades. While here, Ivan took a look at the items and I feel totally confident he can handle all of it in one day. A++
Description of Work: Ivan picked up indoor/outdoor porch carpeting I had on will-call at Home Depot. He delivered it here, moved furniture and washer/dryer, cut new carpet, laid out, uninstalled and reinstalled transom.

John showed up within 15 minutes of his scheduled appointment time. He quickly surveyed the jobs on my list, and he prepared an estimate for me to sign. He kept all work areas clean and contained, and he used drop cloths. John had to pick up a few supplies from the nearby home improvement store, which he did in a reasonably short time, and he got down to business quickly. John worked hard and steadily. He took a 1/2-hour lunch break, which he announced before he left, and said when he'd be back. He ended up going well over his estimated number of hours, but did not charge me for the extra time, and apologized for staying so long. But I was very grateful that John was so attentive to the quality of his work. He made sure he did the jobs RIGHT, instead of slapping things together just to get done more quickly. I would ABSOLUTELY call this Mr. Handyman franchise again, and ask for John. He is knowledgeable, hard-working, and communicative.
Description of Work: John, the handyman who came to our home, fulfilled a whole list of items. He fixed the kitchen faucet and two broken light switches. He removed bubbling paint from a wall that had water damage, tested for moisture, refinished the area, and repainted. He created a small drainage ditch with rocks to lead away from a downspout which had been pooling water against the front of the house. He cut a new baseboard, attached it in the kitchen, and painted it. He replaced a warped piece of laminate on the front of a kitchen cabinet. He also fixed a running toilet.

I closed on my home 8/27/2012. I did not move into the home until I finished all the recommended items to correct by my homeowner's insurance, one of them being to re-caulk the master bathroom shower. I am not knowledgable in the scope of "home improvement" tasks, hence, hired Mr. Handyman to come to my house to "remove and replace the grout in master shower" on 9-15-2012. They sent a technician by the name of "Rich" to come out and perform the services. When he finished he had me sign the form that he completed the work and I gave him a check for $136 for the work. I am not trained in knowing how to inspect their work when they are done, hence, I rely on the contractor I hire to do the job I requested properly as is what it should be. There were no NOTICABLE issues until recent.... July 3rd, 2014, I was cleaning the shelves in my kitchen (which is directly below the master bathroom shower/tub) when I noticed water spots on the ceiling. Closer exam revealed the drywall cracking down the seam of the possible support beam regions. I called a general contractor, Gerald Meitz Jr, to come in and evaluate it. On 7/14/2014, he cut open the ceiling to inspect the leak, along with a "ceiling specialist" and mold specialist. What they had found is that the leak was a long standing leak from an "improper" or lack there of (as one spot had NO caulking REPLACED) caulk/grout job in the master shower. I had informed him that I hired someone 9-2012 to perform that service and he stated that they did not do it properly. Water has been slowly draining down into the plank until it rotted away and drained into the drywall/ceiling. Unfortunately, homeowners insurance may not cover the repair of the plank, RECAULKING/REGROUTING, reconstruction of the bathroom floor tile, dehumidifier time, patch, and reskimming the ENTIRE ceiling (due to texture) due to the reason for the leak. This is estimated at least at $5000 for repair. This $5000 repair is subsequent of a bad $136 job done by Mr. Handyman's services on 9-15-2012. I called Mr. Handyman's, VJ, 7-15-2014 to discuss the issue with him and even invited to have him come out and look at the damage. He was very defensive immediately and said "there was no way" it was his services as it was 1 1/2 years earlier and failed to take responsibility for his inferior services rendered and paid for. I counseled him that 3 different specialists evaluated the area and state that the leak was due to "improper caulking/grouting done at the base of the shower" which was the exact job that his company was supposed to have done when I hired them to PREVENT something like this from happening. I researched thoroughly and caulking/grouting does not need to be replaced yearly as VJ was stating to me on the phone that it does. That is a false statement to cover up his company's mistake. He refused to even come out and look at the issue caused by his services. I can submit pictures of the job that the specialists pointed out that revealed several GAPS in the grout/caulk application that allowed water to seep in for over 1.5 years. My only relief is knowing that is was caught before any significant issues with ceiling structure caving in as I have a toddler in the home. I also conversed with "VJ" in the fact that I paid for a job that was not done, leading to this enormous cost, the least he could do was to come and look at it to reimburse my payment of $136 for inferior services. "VJ" had refused and stated it was not his responsibility and I signed the form of completion. "VJ" literally laughed at the concern at the end of the phone call. He had no concern with his inadequate work. **On a side note, I hired the this company 9-2012 to fix a patio door, as well. They did not properly fix it and had to come back and redo it. It STILL does not work. I quit using this company after the 2nd attempt at the patio door. Unfortunately now, though, I am facing consequences of their work done in the past. I strongly discourage using this company for any significant work to be done.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and thanks for your help to the country with being part of the Army National Guard. We have always extended you a 10% military discount on all 3 of your past service visits. I would also like to take the time to address your concerns and attempt to clarify further our stance with this matter. You mentioned that your homeowner’s insurance recommended that your bathroom be re-caulked. This indicates a pre-existing condition or problem with your caulking and/or grout. You were likely shown the problem by the inspector e.g. missing or damaged caulk or grout. You are claiming that you are not knowledgeable in the scope of home improvements and that is completely understandable and the reason we are in business to assist individuals that are not experts. The technician would have showed you the work that was performed during the visit prior to you signing the line that stated “I hereby acknowledge the satisfactory completion of the above described work and that the premises have been left in a satisfactory condition”. I believe it would have been reasonable that if there was a section that was completely missing caulk or grout that you would have noticed at the time the work was performed or at some point before the almost 2 year mark before calling us. We happily warranty our labor and workmanship on all matters that don’t involve water. We don’t, nor did we ever, warranty against leaks. Our standard invoice states “There is no warranty on water leaks of any nature”. The reason for this is that there are many variables that are out of our control when it comes to water. For example in your situation you have a second floor bathroom. If your shower/tub was not installed properly initially or if there was some problem with the framing there could be some flex with the floor or pan that could cause small cracks in the grouting of cause caulking to pull loose. Even with proper installation there will likely be some level of movement that could disturb caulk or grout. The use or chemicals and abrasives is just another example of things that are beyond our control. We tell every customer that is having any type of caulking or grout work to be done to make sure the bathroom is not used at least 24 hours before our arrival and 24 hours after. This is another scenario where we have little to no control over. For the above reasons and examples we don’t warranty against leaks. For the grout work performed the invoice was $150 and we provided a 10% military discount to arrive at the $136 Two weeks prior, on 9/1/2012, you hired us to repair your sliding glass door wheels. I should further ad that a week later you completed an online survey and rated us a 10 out of 10 and stated the following “Saturday appointments, quick/quality service, and excellent follow-up” Approximately six and a half months later you hired us for a third time (despite your comment that you stopped using us) to repair the wheels on a screen door. We do stand behind our work when a warranty is applicable. Two months after we repaired your screen door you called us and said the screen was not working properly. We quickly came back out and noted that the screen was just fine but it was just off the track – likely from a forceful open/close or pet or kid hitting against it. This was not a warranty issue and was not related to our labor or workmanship. We were entitled to charge you for the visit because we told you on the phone that if the problem was not related to the workmanship that there would be a charge. As goodwill we did not charge but simply placed the door back on track and In your review you said that I told you that the grouting needed to be replaced every year. This is absolutely not what I said. I indicated that it should be inspected – like many things around the house on an annual basis. You also indicate that I laughed. This is simply not the truth. I would never do that as a professional. You provided the first F rating for our decade old business. I was matter of fact telling you that it was not a warranty issue from our standpoint. You proceeded to threaten bad reviews, contacting the BBB and litigation. I simply expressed that you had every right to take any action that you deemed appropriate. You clearly had the right to rate us an F just as I have a right to respond. We are an A rated business on Angie’s List and multi-year winner of the Super Service Award. We are not perfect nor do we claim to be. We are fully licensed, insured and bonded and try our best every day. Our reputation is everything and for this reason I took the time to try and address your concerns. **On a side note - You mentioned that you hired a general contractor named Gerald Meitz, Jr. I have no opinion whatsoever on the contractor but I was not able to find him on Angie’s List and the Palm Beach County Contractor registration information shows his insurance expired in 2009 and workers comp exemption expired in 2010.

He took a lot of time. It costs $250 for the first 2 hours, then $88 for each hour after that. There were several boxes left behind. He offered to get rid of them for a "few bucks" and I gave him $5 and he laughed at me, and asked for $20 instead. He arrived at 12pm, but he put down 11:45am on the bill, then left at 3:30pm. I questioned him about the time he arrived, and he argued with me. He wasn't friendly or informative. I would never call this company again.
Description of Work: He changed the ventilation fan in one bathroom, changed the light fixture in another bathroom. Replaced shower heads in both bathrooms.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent experience. You provided your Angie’s List Review the same day service was provided. Regrettably, this did not allow me the opportunity to speak to you directly about your experience to attempt to address your concerns. I would have been more than willing to drive out to your home and meet with you to discuss any problem with our service and also remove your boxes for free as a courtesy. You indicated that the technician took a long time. I just wanted to clarify the scope of work which may explain a little further on the time to complete your projects. The exhaust fan that you provided for the replacement was a square fan. Your existing fan was circular. The technician indicated that he told you it would be a more involved because we had to cut and patch the drywall to accommodate the square fan. Also, we did not just replace the shower heads in the two bathrooms. You purchased 2 universal upgrade kits and we changed out the shower head, the shower handle and trim kit and the diverters and also installed a handheld shower hose. Our technicians are well trained on company procedures. They are supposed to start billing upon arrival. We have GPS tracking units installed in all of our vans that track all activity within 2 minute intervals. I reviewed the start and stop time of the van for that day (and would be happy to share the report). Your technician arrived between 11:49 and 11:51. They are supposed to round to the nearest quarter hour increment. In this case it would have been 11:45. Your technician left between 3:44 and 3:46. This was correctly rounded to 3:45. The technician followed company procedures with the billing. You indicated that the technician argued with you regarding the arrival time. Per the technician he did not argue and simply adjusted your bill to a 12:00 start. The invoice shows that the start time was adjusted to your request. I apologize if you found him anything other than polite You also mentioned that the technician said he would get rid of the boxes for a “few extra bucks” and that you proceeded to give him $5. We have a minimum disposal charge of $20. This is the amount that was shown on the invoice (that you should have the yellow copy of). The technician indicated that you did not want to pay the $20 so he just scratched off the $20 from the invoice. I am sorry if you were offended by our minimum disposal charge but the technician was just doing what he was trained to do regarding billing. The technician said he was not trying to offend you in anyway whatsoever and I extend my sincere apologies for any misunderstanding on his behalf and the company. Thanks again - sorry we were not able to exceed your expectations and best regards

We asked them to come in to fix our gutters. Very punctual and came a few minutes early before I had to go to work. Determined that the issue was not the gutter, but the underground drainage pipe and recommended we go with a specialist. Did not charge for visit, consultation or evaluation. very pleased with their honesty and courtesy. Will definitely use again when we have any issues with our home.
