Description of Work: I wasn't going to write a review but Angie's List keeps sending me emails to do so. I met with Marilyn 10 months ago. I had missed out on the Big Deal on Angie's list but contacted Marilyn anyway for a consultation and paid $100.00 for 1 hour. I explained to Marilyn that I was hiring an architect to do a renovation to include a new additional and that I really wanted some help with design ideas before going to the architect and that I needed help with selection finishes and decorating. I also mentioned that I am a trade and would be hiring my own subcontractors to do the work. I did not expect a full design of my home for $100.00 and didn't really know what to expect but thought the consultation would be more like a stroll through my house and throwing out some quick ideas that would get me excited, however, we never made it past the couch in the front living room. Instead, it was more of a sales pitch on the capabilities of her subcontractors, how she works, and her fees. The fees she discussed with me for her design services, had I hired her, seemed reasonable and something I would definitely have paid for but unfortunately she did not WOW me about ideas for my home. She talked repeatedly about a sage kitchen she had done for a client and mention multiple times she had someone who could remove the dated mirrored wall I wanted to get rid of. (Something my husband could do). She showed me a picture of a foyer floor she had done but no real portfolio to WOW me. She was a very nice lady and I think she is trustworthy but she just did not sell me. In the end I felt disappointed that I wasted $100.00 for a sales pitch which is not what I should have to pay for. A consultation to me is to give me a tickler of ideas for my home.

Description of Work: Marilyn was a delight to work with, and she is very responsive. She made me feel thsat she was really listening to my needs. I was very hsppy with the subcontractors she used, and she knows just the right plsces to go for the items I needed. I would highly recommend her

Description of Work: Fortunately for me, I found Marilyn Weiss on Angie's List when we decided to do a total kitchen renovation. I had an initial consultation with Marilyn, who brought photos of previous kitchen remodels she'd done, as well as letters of recommendation from former clients. Very professional. Marilyn handled all aspects of this project from beginning to end and was with me every step of the way. She was always available morning, noon and night, and always in constant communication with me. She works with vendors that I never would have had an opportunity to meet, and each one was superb at their craft. Marilyn works with an incredible team who are top notch, and she handled the scheduling of everyone to perfection. Renovating a kitchen is no easy task but Marilyn was great at calming me down and reassuring me that everything was going according to plan and would be worth the inconvenience and the mess. And was she right. Her suggestions and recommendations were spot on and she has impeccable taste. I never could have done this project without Marilyn, and I'm extremely grateful to her. She became my friend, and my decorator of choice.

Description of Work: I contracted with Marilyn to design window treatments for 6 windows in different but contiguous rooms of my home. Marilyn consulted at my home, introduced me to her drapery maker Teri, and then spent many hours with me picking out the appropriate fabrics at fabric stores so that the designs would integrate with my existing furniture and colors. We met with Teri on several occasions and the final window treatment designs were the result of the collaboration of the 3 of us. The window treatments turned out fabulous and I couldn't be happier with them. Teri's installer Steve also did a great job of making final adjustments.

Description of Work: Marilyn helped us decide on interior paint colors and put us in contact with Brent Miller, who did the painting for us. We had our kitchen, dining/living room painted. Marilyn did a followup visit with us to help with furniture placement and other decorating suggestions.

Description of Work: Marilyn was very responsive to my "rush" job in having my guest bedroom redone and my bathroom repainted. I only had a month in which to complete it due to family visiting. She got on the job quickly. I picked the floor and she designed the paint and finishings around that. I am not a "shopper" and was always used to a prior decorator presenting the choices and taking care of all the shopping and scheduling. Marilyn doesn't do that. Her painter is top quality and did a great job on both rooms. Her color scheme came out beautifully. The room was finished and I was very happy with the results.

Description of Work: Marilyn was extremely professional & easy to work with. We discussed how to redo the interior of my house which colors to use on the walls, how to set up the kitchen. I have an appointment with her in April to visit a cabinet maker & granite place. She also gave my names of businesses to visit to get ideas of what I want.

Description of Work: Interior design and home staging consultation - BIgDeal Special. Marilyn called to tell me she was on her way. When I gave her different directions from what she had gotten from MapQuest she disagreed with me, "but MapQuest says". I gave up and told her, " follow MapQuest, my route is more direct, MapQuest is taking you in circles. Marilyn got lost and called, she would not answer my question, "Are you in my development?". I finally had to tell her to shut up a listen, she then stopped talking and determined that she was not in the right development. The consultation: Friday - Marilyn asked what I wanted to do and agreed that those items needed to be updated. She then proceeded to sell me on her workman and her skills as a decorator. She did not give me any interior design or staging advice, Marilyn only wanted me to hire her as a consultant for the entire remodeling job. She did not provide any service for my $99.00 BigDeal. Marilyn gave me a price for her service for the entire consultation. I told her that I would not be able to do the entire job at one time. So I gave her a deposit(check) for the first job of selecting tile and flooring for the entire house. We scheduled an appointment to meet at a tile distributor within two weeks. After, she left, I thought about our miss communication and the fact that she had not provided any real remodeling or staging ideas. I also thought about the photos of her previous jobs. These rooms were decorated in a style too conventional and dated for my taste. The next day a Saturday, I called and emailed Marilyn to tell her that I wanted to cancel our agreement. Marilyn refused to cancel and wanted me to pay $400 dollars for her time, she said that she had made appointments for workmen to see my ceiling, and measure my floors. I then sent her an email and a certified letter reviewing the Florida Law on canceling contracts made in a person home within 3 business days of the agreement. After this conversation I called my bank and put a stop payment on the check, Saturday. Tuesday: Marilyn called to say that she had received my cancelation letter and would return my cash. Wednesday she called and said that she had deposited the check on Friday. I told her I had stopped payment on the check, she said that the bank only told her that there were insufficient funds to cash the check. The bank also told her that they would not return the check to her.

Description of Work: Marilyn worked with me and put me in contact with trusted vendors for painting and window treatments. Her recommendations for paint colors and window coverings was spot on and they look wonderful. She shopped with me for rugs, lamps, pillows, and accessories. Her eye for color and detail encouraged me to consider items I would not have on my own, and everything works together very well. We've purchased some furniture together and the room is coming together. It made quite a difference in my holiday entertaining this year. My husband and I are thrilled with the new decor. We still have more to do and will be continuing into the new year. Marilyn is flexible and is available when you are. She listens to your opinion and seems to know when to nudge you out of your comfort zone without being pushy. I would recommend her as a professional in her field.
