Better Call Bob

Based on our experience we feel we got the short end of the stick! Company lacked knowledgeable employees & did not pay enough attention to the job. Parts of project were poorly finished ie, painting, leveling floor, drywall, etc. We would not recommend this contractor. Proceed with caution with this contractor!

Our experience with Bob was absolutely terrible. We hired him to build out a closet in our guest room and to build cabinetry in our laundry room. He quoted us at $75/hr and told us that both jobs would take 3-4 days. We paid him a deposit of $2000 (50%) for both jobs, understanding that the total cost would be about $3500-4000 at the most. After switching the start date and time on us a few times, he sent a subcontracted gentleman to our house who proceeded to slowly hand make us a closet over 4 days. Using a hand saw. So the closet itself looks poorly constructed, and not at all good quality. The boards he bought were of cheap quality, as are the fixtures. He charged us for returned items. When we questioned the quality, he became extremely argumentative and refused to respond to our calls, telling his subcontractor not to respond to us and to get out as soon as possible. He then charged us $2000 for the closet, and refused to provide us with the cabinets he claims to have purchased for the laundry room- essentially holding them hostage unless we pay him more money. At no point did we agree to a $2000 guest room closet. Did I mention how small it is? Additionally, he led us to believe that two people would be doing the job and that it would take a day, which made the $75/hr he charged make sense. But bob doesn’t really make a lot of sense, apparently. We repeatedly requested receipts over a four day period, which he ignored. We repeatedly requested to speak to him about what might be the priciest guest closet in the history of Florida closets, and he refused. So this man, during a pandemic, decided to prey upon my family and then steal our money and refuse to communicate when questioned. And our laundry room is still unfinished, but partially paid for. Please don’t make the mistake we did. We were shocked that he would scam us in this way- he seemed so lovely! He was a completely different person at the outset than who he showed us to be when we first started noticing his bait and switch. And then we spoke to other clients of his, who had similar and worse experiences with him than we did. We are considering filing several state complaints against him for predatory business practices so that he doesn’t take advantage of anyone else.

I gutted one house, built 2 others and I know how to deal with contractors which most people will agree that a good contractor is hard to come by...TRUSTING BOB IS THE WAY TO GO. Bob and his team will always be my go to handymen.
