The owner is a nice guy. He showed up early at 7PM to meet me and my wife at the job site for an estimate. He took the time to look over what was being requested, and gave a fair price. He agreed to do the work on a specific two-day period he arranged with my tenants at the site. The owner called me early in the morning of the agreed upon day, and finished about 4PM the next day. My wife and I came to inspect, and could not believe how great a job they did, the work was beautiful!! Right down to the openings for the lights which were cut absolutely perfect. And the site was clean. Drywall Doctor did an outstanding job, and I would definitely hire them again!

During initial quote (on site) he said $600/day and it would take him 2-3 days. I agreed. The first 2 days he came and was working with his brother and dad. He didn't tell me the price would be different. We never agreed on a rate for his help. The agreement was for him to do the job at $600/day. When the work was finished, he gave me a bill for over $700 more than expected. He worked full day Wednesday (March 23rd 2022) and Thursday. He worked a half day Friday and less than half day Sunday. Expected bill: $1,800 The final bill: $2,750 Itemized: * $1,900 Rick
 * $200 Roger (Never discussed or agreed on this rate)
 * $500 Ron (Never discussed or agreed on this rate)
 * $150 materials. (funny how when i priced the materials (mud, tape, ~58 ft of corner bead) it came to less than $60 before tax).
I paid him, and later asked him why he told me one price and later changed it. He apologized and said he should have gave more detail. It doesn't ever need to get more complicated than "it's going to take 2-3 days and be $600/day" for a on-site quote from someones who's been doing drywall their whole life. My cost agreement was with him and not subject to change based on who he chooses to help him. If you've been doing drywall all your life, visiting a property (not pictures), walking around and telling me it's going to take 2-3 days should mean it's going to take 2-3 days. The only thing extra I asked him to do (if he had time) was the 5x10 bathroom ceiling during that part of the project. With all his experience, he knew up front that he couldn't do the job by himself in 2-3 days. He knew he would get help and he knew he was going to charge me for it and withheld that information. We agreed to continue and he made me wait over 2 weeks (he said because of other work) to finish the rest of the project. April 12th in evening he sends a text asking if i'm still ready for him to hang drywall tomorrow and i say yes. April 13th he shows up and starts hanging drywall and tells me that he's just going to hang. He's not going to mud and tape as planned until next week. He said "you know how it is, this guy just gave me more work and i got to do it. Are we good?". I said i don't know, there's nothing I can do. I can't change your schedule. You're in charge. I asked him didn't we talk about this? We were on the schedule to do this job today through Friday. So now you're telling me your just going to hang today and then go do some other job and circle back to me next week? So then he says okay okay i'll call the client and ask him if he's okay with me doing his job next week. As if he's doing me a favor by not going back on his word. As if finishing with him is more important than not having low life's in my house. Then maybe an hour later he tells me he called the other client and told him he had to finish my job because he told me that he would. He said it like I was suppose to thank him. Like he did me a favor by being ethical or a person of their word. So I asked him how long it was going to take. Again, if he's been doing this all his life and isn't quoting a job by pictures (he is on site) then, he should know. So he says "however long it takes". So now, I don't know if the real reason he is keeping his word is because he's going to overcharge me. So we agreed on setting up at the end of each day that way I could stop the job if he ends up trying to charge me more money than the big job cost for a much smaller job. Then less than a hour later he leaves without doing any mud work. So him and his dad worked from 9 to 12:36 (not even half a day). In that time they hung drywall in bedroom, bathroom, closet, hallway, wrapped one doorway and patched a area next to the back door. Then he sends me a text saying "This is Rick. I think you need to get another person for the mud work . I feel I can’t do job good enough for what you want. I don’t like feeling like I’m not doing a good enough job. Im also afraid if anything happens to bathroom tile I will liable for repairs. I don’t like working under the pressure. Sorry. I will not change my mind . When I feel like this my stomach gets in knots and I can’t handle it. Please don’t call. My mind is made up. Drywall bill for today is no charge." Don't call? Get off your high horse. It's not that you don't like feeling like your doing a good enough job or that you don't like working under pressure. What you can't handle is accountability. You don't like acting inappropriate and having someone confront you about it. That knot in your stomach was the residual effect of someone having the audacity to confront you when you go back on your word. It doesn't feel good. And it happened twice. In a time where people are passive and so many fake reviews flood the internet that honest people are leaving fewer reviews. This is the state of the world today so you'll likely have to pick from a pool of people like this. If you give him a chance, do it with the knowledge that despite doing this his whole life, this is who he is now. He thinks people are foolish for expecting someone with his experience to show up and be able to say it's going to take him 2-3 days and be realistic. He needs blank check jobs with no accountability. I also DO NOT recommend him for smooth finish drywall. If you use him, get texture. He's not qualified for level 5 smooth finish work. Flat paint hides the most. We have 2 coats primer and 2 coats FLAT paint on the ceiling, and 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of eggshell on the kitchen wall. Without effort, If you shine a light from one end of the room you can see many issues (seams, screw circles) on the wall and the ceiling. Going texture will eliminate "level 5 finish" disappointment. He can do a level 4 at best but not a level 5 as promised.

Rick did a great job repairing my ceiling. He had to repair multiple holes, 1 large hole due to massive water flood from upstairs. The knockdown in the 2 rooms he did pretty much match the rest of the house ceilings. Looks fantastic.

Drywall Doctor repaired and prepped several damaged ceiling areas in our house and two more in our garage, then prepared our bathroom walls and ceiling for painting. The bathroom walls had a variety of blemishes, cracks and holes which he repaired. He then applied a finish so perfectly to the entire room that we were inclined to not bother painting it. One of the problems in the garage was that the ceiling was sagging so low that it was in danger of being hit by the movement of the garage door. He repaired this issue so effectively that it is never likely to sag again. Drywall Doctor is a total professional in all aspects of his work and customer relations, and the term "Doctor" is certainly appropriate for his approach to his tasks. We highly recommend him and will certainly hire him again as the needs arise.

we had many wall issues, peeling tape, large holes, uneven walls, missing and peeling popcorn on ceilings and texture on walls in almost every room in our house. We found Rick on Angie’s List aka Dry Wall Doctor, who came in and in 2 days for a reasonable price did it all! Very professional, showed up on time, cleaned up each day and did excellent work. I would highly recommend him!

This is my 2nd time using the Drywall Doctor. Due to the large size of the project he teamed up with Knock it Down Texturing and the combined team did a great job. On day 1, they spent a significant amount of time prepping and taping plastic, then they watered the ceiling and removed the popcorn from the ceilings. On day 2, they painted with printer in the morning and then a finishing coat on the afternoon. They cleaned up the site, kept me informed throughout and are just a good & honest group of guys. No need to look anywhere else, just call the Drywall Doctor, you will be glad you did.

I recently hired Drywall Doctor to fix the ceiling in my garage after it collapsed in several areas because the builder in the 1970s used nails. I was very pleased with the work by Rick Powell and his team. They showed up on time. They were extremely professional and very pleasant and finished the job in a few hours, only stopping briefly to take a quick lunch break. Keep in mind that they were working inside a very hot garage with little ventilation in the middle of August. They also gave me a fair price for the job. I recommend them.

Outstanding! The painters that came in afterwards to paint the walls stated it was some of the best work they have ever seen. They use a professional rig that is pulled behind their truck and NOT a hopper unit. Knockdown was same consistency throughout. I had a spot that showed up a few days later that looked like the second coat was missing and Rick promptly returned to address the issue. I would highly recommend the Drywall Dr. from Debary without hesitation.
Description of Work: Had full house removal of popcorn ceiling except for garage and one small bedroom, approx 2000 sq ft. Rick, Cliff and Chase were on time, diligently worked through the process which can be very messy but they kept it to a minimum and cleaned up afterwards.

Rick and his team spent a full day prepping everything carefully and it also required scaffolding to be brought in. The challenge was to do this work without damaging all the cedar in the large room. Outdated popcorn removed, new knockdown texture applied, mold resistant primer applied and we chose to use a satin finish for the final coat which looks very sharp with all the wood finishes. They were very careful about their work and cleaned up each day. The project took 3 days and turned out great. Rick and his team conducted themselves with integrity and skill. You don't need to look for anyone else. You are in good hands when The Drywall Doctor is in the house!
Description of Work: We have a very large 800 sq ft living room/dining room, that has cedar siding and cedar trim throughout. The room is 2 stories high in one section and had old popcorn texture on the walls of the 2 story section and on the ceiling of the other section. We also have an entrance hallway that had popcorn texture.

Rick did an EXCELLENT job. My garage ceiling was in bad shape. Much of the drywall had cracked at the seams, the tape had fallen down and the panels were no longer secure. Rick showed up on time (although he is SO good, he's a little hard to get a hold of) and completely covered my entire garage with plastic sheeting so it wouldn't get splattered. He removed remaining old tape, rescrewed all the tiles, retaped and plastered the entire garage. It looks great. I would definitely hire again. It's wonderful when you find someone who knows what they are doing, you feel like the price is fair and when that project is finished, you know the quality of work is such that you no longer have to worry about it.

Initially we were very impressed. Rick dropped by to give us an estimate and once we said okay, he was back out a few days later to start the work. Since we had a lot of things in the garage, they had to move a lot of it out in order to do the work, and then move it back in when completed. Initially I thought the work they did at time was very good and Rick was very professional. Besides redoing the garage and front porch, Rick also repaired some holes and painted the garage wall at no charge. However a couple of months later, I started noticing bubbles in the garage along the seams in 4-5 different places. I called Rick and left a message in June and he returned my call a few days later. I explained what was going on and he said you can have problems like that in garages but that he would need to stop by and take a look after returning from an out of town trip. I asked if I could text him pictures and he said that was fine, which I did in July. He texted me back about a week later and he said he would stop by. After hearing nothing from him, I texted him again in August with more pictures, and he replied that would stop by and take a look. Now almost two months later, he has never stopped by and I am stuck with knock down bubbling, cracking, and probably eventually will start to fall down. We are not happy and we certainly aren't going to be using Drywall Doctor in the future to remove the popcorn on the inside of the house.
