Mr. Hip Ritter came to my home and gave me an estimate and advice on how to remodel the master bathroom. I was installing a Jacuzzi tub and had questions on how to make a frame for it. I wanted to know what type of support and materials to use. He took his time and explained my options and gave me good advice on some problems I might encounter. He also advised me on which walls were suitable for tiling without removing the existing dry wall and which areas I should go with cement board and water proofing. He also gave me suggestions on plumbing and electrical work I should have done. These suggestions saved me a lot of time, money and possible future problems. When it came time to begin the installation Mr. Ritter laid out the tiles in several patterns on the floor and against the wall to see how it would look. We had two colors of tile and a band of textured listello tiles for a border. He was very patient during this process. After we chose the design we wanted Mr. Ritter checked the quantity of tiles in each color and style to insure we had plenty to do the job. His estimate was very accurate to within three pieces at the end of the job. We chose a diagonal pattern for the floor so Mr. Ritter started the tiles in such a manner as not to leave small tiny pieces of tile along the edges. This extra time in planning gave the job a professional touch. Mr. Ritter "floats in" each tile. That means he does not spread a lot of the mortar on the floor and then drop the tiles in it as it hardens. He applied mortar to each tile and then placed each tile individually making sure it was level in all directions and with the adjacent tiles. He worked at a steady pace taking time to clean the area between each tile as he worked, this allowed for a more through grouting process. We asked Mr. Ritter to add some "cut ins" for recessed shelves above the tub and near the toilet. He undertook these additions in stride and helped us decide how to place and tile them. He did an excellent job on each and ran the listello border through the recess above the tub with excellent results. He also used the border listello tile to frame for an octagon shaped window in the bathroom. He cut the tiles in a precise angle to allow the pattern to match all around the window making it appear to be a continuous design. In summary at the end of the job all the tiles are placed on line, level in every direction. There is no tile out of place and nothing sticking out of the wall or recessed as you see in some tile jobs. Mr. Ritter did an outstanding job for us and I will use him for any future projects. He stated that he does ceramic tile, porcelain tile, marble and stone work as well as regular handy man work. The only drawback to Mr. Ritter's work is his speed, He tells you up front that he is not the fastest worker in town, and he is truthful.
