They were so good. They were so good and we did not have one problem. It was a major job because I live on the water and they had to put the pool on tiling. They were amazing. They did such a good job. I would recommend them. So many of my friends have had problems with their pools and these people were recommended by someone my husband knows. Everything went on time, and on schedule. The only thing that held up was the electrical inspector had gone away on vacation to Europe so we had to wait for him to come back and inspect the electrical. It was a $100,000 job and we did not have one problem. It is a family owned business, and the owner Ike passed away, but his children still have the amazing. They were amazing. We still can't believe that it went so well. Everyone else we know had a million problems. The project started in August, and I made the last payment in December. It took 5 months but that was very quick for a job that required so many permits. We had an issue with the electrical inspection, but they were very fast, and they were excellent. They were very professional, they were respectful and I had no complaints. They had subcontractors that I have used over the years as well.
Description of Work: I did my pool with Swimming Pools By Ike. I had an old pool and they had to redo the pool. They had to make a hole in the pool, come with a barge, put the tilings and redo a complete new pool.

It went terrible. I have many defects in the pool that Ike, JR. will not correct!
Description of Work: I had a similar experience as the customer above who had problems with equipment and deck and got no resolution. I contracted with Ike, Jr. in approx. 10/08 to build my pool, spa and deck. The work was completed and paid in full approx. 6/09. We paid over $100,000. Since that time I have had numerous issues, big and small and have received no correction of these issues. To begin with, i paid $30,000 for a deck that was done by Ike's sub contractors. I used artistic pavers for my deck. Immediately, they started caving in to the extent that they broke away from my tile of my raised spa and sank about 6 inches. After, many, many calls and the threat of an attorney, Ike, Jr. came out and told me that it was normal settling. This man is a scam artist. I took pictures and submitted a complaint to the BBB as well. He lied and said I was out of warranty, even though this problem existed from the start. There is no way it was settling. Ike and his subs did not properly prepare the ground underneath to support the weight of artistic's pavers. I had another company come out to correct it and they could not believe what they saw underneath. I also, have problems with rust spots all over the service of the pool and all of the grout falling out. My auto fill does not work and my tile is cracking due to incorrect installation. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the State of Florida against his contractor's license. SO far, my consolation has been getting the word out and actually taking away at least 2 new pool jobs and 3 renovations from him. What a ignorant business man. He has lost so much business from word of mouth. The honorable thing would have been to correct the problems. He has chosen to scam his customers. It is only a matter of time before he is out of business. Please, if you are considering using Pools by Ike, Jr. for a new pool or renovation, do not make the same mistake that we did. You will be very sorry!

told it would be done by Christmas. *dug a hole in beginning of Nov.....hit a water line to home......Ike was told before digging that water line was there. I personally was there trying to warn the workers. I was billed for additional 700.00 for the emergency plumber to fix it. Thank goodness I was there to run to the main waterline and turn off it myself...no worker knew what to do??? *the hole sat for 3 weeks...permitting problems....Ike charged me extra to expedite the permits because they weren't approved because of code mistakes his company made. Ike had reassured me that he knew all the codes for the Ft. Lauderdale area..."NOT" :) *He only showed up for each payment($$) installment. *I hate to say this but "He was completely dishonest to me...throughout the entire process. *He never took responsiblity for putting in a "lemon" aqua-cell filter by Jandy...he passed it off to Jandy within 30 days of completion we called him several time..."no response"...... & to this day has yet to do anything about it. Jandy rep. came & has it running at 100 percent for a small 10,000 gallon pool...we are constantly having to shock the pool because it won't make chlorine??? We thought we were getting a salt water pool???? Ike could care less!!!!! The sensors for the temp has never work correctly....Today it is 60 degrees outside and the air temp says 79 degrees??? In the summer the air temp say 98 when it's 86...so the hot tub heats only to 104...which makes it actually 95???? *My husband asked him to please check on the aqua cell....a couple of pavers...& the sensor for the temp & to finish the overfill drain. He would than get his last check...which was the last payment $2500.00. I was out of town and was unaware of the conversation. When I got back into town...Ike came to my door to collect the $2500.00. I asked him if the check list was completed...he say yes....I gave him the remaining check...not knowing that I wasn't suppose to because my husband had the conversation with him. Ike lied directly to my face. We never heard from him again & he never came back to complete the small check list. *My problem with Ike is the constant "dis-honest" he runs his company. He always got paid on time from us....but we ended up paying 5500.00+ in extra cost from his permitting. mistakes..plumbling extras he didn't budget...& extra electrical issues. These were all things we asked him to please check into and put into the bid....Everytime a permit didn't pass. We paid again for the next inspection....he used every excuse in the book. *pool was completed in Feb. (he never returned to finish the check list of small items) Never heard from him again. *I could never recommend a friend to use this company. I would feel totally awful to put anyone through this experience or cost. *This was a terrible experience with this company. I waited 2 years to file this hoping time would make me feel better about it. No such luck.
Description of Work: Small Saltwater pool & spa with water fall...on the New river in Fort Lauderdale. We needed a company that was familiar with all the permitting required for this area. His quote came for just under 50,000.00

As part of comments on this company, I would like to start by presenting Angie?s List with the text of a complaint I filed on December 8, 2009, with the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Florida. Then, I will insert the company?s response and I will then insert my rebuttal. Better Business Bureau Complaint December 8, 2009: On many occasions I have called and emailed in an attempt to complete the installation of my pool. Ike even came out to my house on October 30, 2009, but nothing has been done. First, the deck needs to be repaired. The pavers have collapsed and there are uneven surfaces which will surely cause injury. Next, I was promised that tiles would be replaced, nothing. It was never brought to my attention the noise level of the equipment. Ike was aware of the location of my kitchen and the location of a table and chairs with respect to the placement of the equipment. It wasn?t until after the installation of the equipment, half-way through the build, that the level of noise was brought to my attention. It was then I was sold a more expensive heat pump. Not only that, it wasn?t until after the build and during operation that I discovered that the filter pump was excessively loud. After a conversation with a pool builder I learned that the pool equipment should have been placed behind the house. Prior to completion, I learned that the deck could have been built-out an additional 4 feet. Between adding the extra deck and the so-called quiet heat pump (that by the way I was told that it would cool the water in the summer which it does not) it cost an additional $5,000.00 and a multi-week delay in completion. I thought that if I signed on for Ike's monthly maintenance, the pool would be completed. Not only is the pool unsatisfactory, there was brown growth at the bottom of my pool. Resolution Sought: Fix the deck. Replace the tiles. Install the heat pump that was promised. Move all pool equipment to the rear of the house. Acid wash deck. Date Problem Started: 02/17/2009 Date of Transaction: 08/28/2008 Amount in Dispute: $0.00 Invoice Number: Complaint Type: Guarantee/Warranty Product or Service: I am extremely dissatisfied with the pool. Company?s Response ? Posted January 20, 2010: Job address: 17026 Newport Club Drive Boca Raton Fl, 33496 The final pool and deck inspections passed on 02/16/08 at which time the deck pavers were even. After going through a severe rain season, some pavers have shift which is normal for a sand set paver deck. We do warranty paver settlement for a year. Mr. Klein?s pavers have been reset twice the last time in December. The tiles Mr. Klein wants replaced are hand holds on the front of the spa which cannot be removed because the swimming pool code requires them. The location of the pool equipment was discussed with Mr. Klein when he was getting the bids for his pool from us and other pool companies. The plus and minus of the two different locations were discussed and Mr. Klein picked the front location when he decided to use us. He approved the plans showing pool location. During the bidding process between us and several other pool companies, Mr. Klein was very price oriented and wanted our price to match the low bid he had, which we tried to do. At the same time, all the bids had the same size decks and heat pumps which was what Mr. Klein wanted so he could compare. After the pool was started, Mr. Klein wanted an estimate for a larger deck and a heat-n-chill heat pump upgrade which we did and he accepted. The heat pump is a Super Quiet heat-n-chill SQ121 model. When Mr. Klein added extra deck and plus the super quit heat pump, we had to revise the plans and permit which delayed job a couple of weeks. Brown stain on pool floor was from iodine in salt added to pool for salt chlorine generator. Our Pool Service Tech is removing this stain. We want Mr. Klein to be happy with his pool and look forward to serving his pool needs in the future. Sincerely, Bjarne ?Ike? Eikevik Jr. Consumer?s Rebuttal ? Posted January 27, 2010: In rebuttal to Swimming Pools by Ike, Jr.: Swimming Pools by Ike, Jr. (?SPI?) states ?The final pool and deck inspections passed on 02/16/08 at which time the deck pavers were even.? I agree with SPI?s statement. SPI goes on to state ?Mr. Klein?s pavers have been reset twice the last time in December.? What does that tell the reader? It tells me that within ten months, the pavers being reset twice, the installation was faulty. SPI?s excuse is that South Florida went ?through a severe rain season.? That?s ridiculous, this is a tropical climate, isn?t it? Had the pavers been installed properly, the pavers would not have twice collapsed in such a short period of time. SPI cut corners by not demolishing the entire cement foundation. SPI installed the new stone pavers over portions of the old cement deck. Apparently, there is a very shallow amount of sand between the old cement deck and the new pavers thereby causing the slightest amount of rain to erode the sand creating a hazardous condition that will occur on an ongoing basis for the life of the pool. The installation is such that the paver?s will never properly settle because the sand will continue to erode and require resetting two to three times a year. The final straw that moved me to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (and now Angie?s List) was SPI?s failure to repair the warranted pavers in a reasonable amount of time. It wasn?t until I filed this complaint with the Better Business Bureau did SPI come and repair the pavers (there are still loose pavers that have yet to be repaired). The request for the repair was made 6 weeks prior to him eventually making the repair. Although SPI ?do(es) warranty paver settlement for a year,? after the one-year warranty expires, I will be forced to pay for re-setting the pavers on a semi-annual basis. SPI states ?The tiles Mr. Klein wants replaced are hand holds on the front of the spa which cannot be removed because the swimming pool code requires them.? SPI may be correct as to the building code, but I am only relying on what Mr. Eikevik Jr. assured me when I executed the contract. At the time of execution of the contract, Mr. Eikevik Jr. stated to me that he would install the hand holds with silicone, then after the final inspection, remove the hand holds and install the tile. Apparently he was just telling me what I wanted to hear so he could make a sale. By the way, when Mr. Eikevik Jr. came by my home on Friday, October 30, 2009, to evaluate my concerns, he never mentioned this to me. He assured me that the tiles would be replaced. Regarding equipment placement, SPI states ?The location of the pool equipment was discussed with Mr. Klein when he was getting the bids for his pool from us and other pool companies.? First of all, how does SPI know what I discussed with other pool companies? Next, SPI?s statement that we discussed locating the equipment in another location is not true. It is true that I ?approved the plans showing pool location.? However, SPI is the expert. I relied on his expertise in assisting me regarding the location of the equipment. Mr. Eikevik Jr. never advised me as to the noise level of the equipment. He should have known it would be an issue as the equipment is located within three feet of the sitting and eating area of the deck and 5 feet from my kitchen door! Mr. Eikevik Jr. knew that I never had a pool before, how was I to know about noise levels? SPI?s planning or lack thereof is poor, at best. SPI states that ?During the bidding process between us and several other pool companies, Mr. Klein was very price oriented and wanted our price to match the low bid he had, which we tried to do.? Yes that?s true, I tried to negotiate the best price, wouldn?t anybody? However, SPI?s price was not the lowest. Mr. Eikevik Jr. is making assertions in his response he has no way of knowing about. He was not privy to my negotiations with other companies. SPI states ??all the bids had the same size decks and heat pumps which was what Mr. Klein wanted so he could compare.? That is true. I wanted to compare apples to apples, that didn?t mean I wanted to order exactly what each and every other company quoted. SPI states ?After the pool was started, Mr. Klein wanted an estimate for a larger deck and a heat-n-chill heat pump upgrade which we did and he accepted. The heat pump is a Super Quiet heat-n-chill SQ121 model. When Mr. Klein added extra deck and plus the super quit heat pump, we had to revise the plans and permit which delayed job a couple of weeks.? This is true except Mr. Eikevik Jr. misleads the BBB. Mr. Eikevik Jr. fails to state that it was his poor planning that caused the revision and delay. When SPI first came to me, I had a screen enclosure where the pool is now installed. SPI presented me an estimate with a screen enclosure. According to SPI, when a screen enclosure is installed, the deck set-back from the adjacent house is seven feet. However, without a screen enclosure, the set-back from the adjacent house is only three feet. SPI quoted me on both. On the day Mr. Eikevik Jr. presented me the contract to execute, I decided to go without the enclosure, but Mr. Eikevik Jr. failed to have the deck built with a three foot set-back. It wasn?t until the deck was installed that I noticed that the deck was built with a seven foot set-back which seemed odd in that there was plenty of room to take the deck closer to the adjacent house. Mr. Eikevik Jr. knew that I wanted the deck as close as possible to the adjacent house in order to have as much deck area as possible. Additionally, I brought up the issue of the noise to SPI when he up-sold me a more expensive heat pump that he labeled ?Super Quiet.? At that point, if I wanted the pool done right, I was forced to go forward with the revision at an additional cost of $5,000.00. Yes I agreed to the revision, however, he left me no alternative. Furthermore, I advised Mr. Eikevik Jr. that the chill part of the heat pump did not work as I had attempted to chill the water one day last summer. Mr. Eikevik Jr. stated to me that I did not have the chill feature. I replied that is what I purchased. Knowing that he would make it my fault, I just accepted his response and did not mention it again until he came to my house on October 30, 2009, to look at the deck. I again advised Mr. Eikevik Jr. that the chill feature did not work. Again, he stated that I did not have that feature. Then, on or about December 8, 2009, I received a voice mail message from Mr. Eikevik Jr. stating that the pump he sold me did have the chill feature. His notice to me in December did not do me much good for this past summer. I hope I have a warranty for the pump next summer when the chill feature does not work. Not only that, it turned out that the electrical inspection failed because SPI failed to properly plan in that the electrical service to the house was inadequate. That cost me an additional $1,300.00 to SPI. SPI should have advised me from the very beginning that the service to my house was inadequate. Although this incident is not relevant to my complaint, it is indicative of Mr. Eikevik Jr.?s poor planning. Perhaps it was not poor planning at all and all of this was cleverly calculated to generate additional fees. To reiterate, I would consider this complaint resolved to my complete satisfaction if the following was done by SPI: ? Fix the deck; ? Further warrant the chill feature of the heat pump if it is inoperable and proves to be out of warranty come summer, 2010; ? Move all pool equipment to the rear of the house; and ? Acid wash deck.

Started off good; great design, responsive. Halfway through had a hold-up in permitting; that one week hold up cost me six weeks with Swimming Pools by Ike!! Excuse after excuse after excuse. Then they had to redo the electric, and move the pad because "the code changed" -- shouldn't they know the new code?? Left the post to electric rough, anyone would have cut themselves!! I have had so much trouble with all the equipment they installed, I would never use them again.

It went well. Some pool companies have bad reputations so I was very careful about choosing a company and did a lot of research and interviewing. Ike was good and he seemed honest. He also did my brother's pool/patio renovation and that came out great as well. Sometimes response time was not as fast as I would have liked but overall, everything was painless!
