I hired Hawaiian Tropic Pools, Inc. (HTP) and Doug was terrific. My pool looks like a new install. Doug worked his magic replacing the piping and valves at the pump/filter first so we could get the water back to blue and clean before working on the pool. (No sense refinishing a pool if you can't keep the water in good shape.) Then he drained the pool and began removing tile and finish. They located several leaks from tree roots and fixed those so that the roots could not continue to drill into and drain the pool. Next was the tile work. What an improvement!! Doug also replaced the eroded two piece sill between the spa and the pool (waterfall). Then the new finish was applied and the pool was filled. Doug used a "tank filter" to remove minerals and impurities from the water while refiling the pool. Excellent. There are some scale depositing minerals in our utility supplied water. Because of our busy schedules, we also had HTP come every couple days to brush down the pool surface while it continued to cure. We also had new underwater lights installed (pool and spa). We opted for programmable LED lights so we get an attractive light show at night. From start to finish, Doug was/is very professional. He will not install substandard equipment. The valves, lights, tile, pipes all are top quality. Our pool is 22 years old and now looks 20 days old. I am VERY VERY please with the outcome.

Doug immediately responded to our e-mail request for a quote and came within a few hours of our telephone conversation. He determined that the timer was not broken, explained why and did not charge for the service call. He is extremely honest and we will use again.

To start, I found Hawaiian Tropic Pools through Angie's List after a moment of desperation because I was having problems with pool resurfacing. I needed a serious, qualified company to provide the best expertise to resolve my issue. I found around 4 companies, but none was available to come as soon as possible (immediately!), with the exception of Hawaiian Tropic Pools. When my husband and I met with Doug Colasanti we realized we had the right person for the job. After speaking to several people and comparing notes, Doug seemed to go above and beyond his call of duty, which gave us a piece of mind that we have found the right guy. We hired his services for his expertise and got all the materials from him. We are very impressed with the quality of work, accuracy in what we needed, professionalism, punctuality and available resources. He knew what needed to be done to correct mistakes, how to detect errors and how to prevent them. We got the manufacturers warranty information which was not provided to us by the other company. Pool resurfacing is a very expensive job, but after seeing what it entails, I would not recommend to go with the cheapest estimate, but to take into consideration the complexity of the job, and the financial risk if something goes wrong. We can say now that I will not make any other decision or pool job without consulting Doug. It was a pleasure dealing with him, none of the other companies responded so quickly and professional and he did. He now has some loyal customers!

On a recommendation from my brother we originally discussed a new replacement salt system. Once Hawaiian Tropic looked at the photo of our existing system it was suggested to re-plumb to decrease the number of elbows and make the system easier to use and easier to service. We are very happy with the results and look forward to less pool maintenance.

It was far more costly than we would have liked but that wasn't Doug's fault. The previous owner of the house had performed sloppy and incorrectly done diamond brite coating without properly cleaning out previous layers which couldn't be seen until the work began in earnest. Doug is proud of the quality of his work and it shows. Our pool looks amazing now. We followed all of Doug's suggestions in the upgrade process and followed his instructions meticulously. If this experience has taught us anything it's that cheap fixes (previous owner) cost a lot more in the end. Doug was up front about what had to be done for the surface to be corrected, his experience and attention to detail is evident in his work. We will definitely be hiring him again. Pay for quality work and have it done correctly the first time!

Adam arrived on time and got right to work. Cleaned up after himself and made sure I was able to use my new system. Very happy with everything he did. System works so quietly we can't even tell it's on!

Owner(Doug) has Amazing knowledge of pool maintenance. Every bit of information/ suggestions and advice was on point. Turned my horribly green pool into a sparkling blue beauty. My kids couldn't be more excited about our "New" pool - hours of Fun! I can not recommend Doug enough to my friends/family and co-workers. He never lets me down. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He cleaned my DE filter and treated the pool. The pool in a day was completely blue and clear. I really appreciated his honesty and trying to save me money. Doug explained about other options/brand to replace the chlorinator and after looking at prices on the internet, his price was very competitive. He was pleasant to talk to and he patiently explained the DE filter and chlorinating system as well as the chemicals. For a few days I was texting him and showing him the readings of the pool chemicals and he immediately would text me back with what chemicals to add. I have found my pool man after many tries!! I highly recommend him to everyone. This is my first Angie's list review and I am pleased that it was a very positive experience.

The pool cleaning is always excellent. The salt water system has been in for a few years. It is fabulous!!!! There is pride in workmanship and it shows.

Wonderful and Horrible. I was given a "ballpark quote" quickly over the phone making sure I understood it would NOT be official until the crew examined the pool. Perfect. The crew arrived and guaranteed me the work could be done by my specifications it would simple take more time. An Official quote arrived: a Legally binding contract: $600.00 more than the ballpark quote. I expected this as I was expecting more detailed work. Day 1: no show; no call Day 2: Crew arrived; with 1/2 the equipment needed to empty the pool. I gave them MY TOOLS AND MY EVCAUTATION HOSE or the job would not have been completed. Day 3: Arrived 6 hours late. Prepped the pool; BUT NEVER LOOKED AT THE SPA Day 4: Arrived as scheduled to do Diamond Brite; with NO PRODUCT, someone forgot to order it and they waited 2 hours for it to be delivered to the house directly. TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY THE OWNER OF HAWAIIN TROPIC arrived to the site and complained there was much more work than he expected. Owner and sub-contracting managers left the site BEFORE THE SPA WAS FINISHED, and all **** broke lose. Day 6: I called and told them I would not accept the job they called COMPLETED IN THE SPA, it was horrible, Day 7: they return to TRY AND PATCH AND FIX; the managers decide it was not fixable and had to start from scratch. Day 8: The Mangers themselves show up to start over in the spa, I am thankful they did for the found 4 major hollows that went undetected 3 days earlier and the broke them out. It was a long day for the management team and they decided the tile I wanted saved COULD NOT BE SAVED. THE ONLY REASON I HIRED THIS COMPANY TO BEGIN WITH. Same day: I located a box of the same tile and told them I would do it myself and they could arrive the next day to apply the Diamond Brite. I SET UP LIGHTS AND STARTED TO LAY TILE; I worked til 11:00 pm; but it was done by the time they arrived. Day 9: Mangers themselves applied Diamond Brite; the detail could drive anyone crazy if not used to it and they GOT LAZY; They drilled the aerator holes in the spa's bench in a pattern that looked like a drunken sailor got hold of a drill. Day 10: The owner of the company arrived to present me with a final bill and to explain the chemical and brushing process. I showed him the labor in the spa and I got no reply. The bill presented was $700.00 more than the original quote. I paid it, I'm not sure why. Day 11: I drained the spa filled all the holes, after purchasing the proper materials, that were drilled and redrilled holes in a pattern much like the original spa. Day 12: Spa developed a leak, was losing 4 inches of water every 12 hours: Here is the owners response: "Resurfacing a pool does not cause leaks! Although if you have prior existing conditions that were not repaired properly they will reappear causing leaks. We are not responsible for causing the leak, rather it is a result of the previous inferior workmanship. I do appreciate your concerns. All of the issues that we have had so far can be attributed to poor workmanship in the past. We have worked diligently to rectify most of the existing problems at a significant cost to us, yet absolutely no cost to you. Had we been informed of the history of the spa we would have addressed the main drain issue prior to resurfacing." NO COST TO ME.....What's the $700.00 and who paid for my time and labor. Day 13: Sunday nothing could be done Day 14: Florida Leak Detectors arrived found and repaired the 2 horrible leaks in the drains in the spa total $330.00 Pool and Spa now finished up to my original specifications and agreement and it looks amazing; thanks only to the fact that I HAVE TOOLS, I CAN LAY TILE; AND I CAN USE POWER TOOLS TO FIX MISTAKES.

Jeff was extremely knowledgeable and performed the Leak Detection and was able to find the problem and complete the repair in short order. Seemed a but pricey but having the insurance, licensing, Angie's List and the BBB behind them provided a peace of mind that I had chosen the right company. I was extremely satisfied and would highly recommend them for any type of pool service. Thanks Doug.

I called Doug after 3-4 years (changed my pool timer) and he was happy to help / guide me on how to self- repair my pool issues. He could of came over my house and charged me, but he did not he walked me thru the steps over the phone. Doug is as honest as they come. Doug is great I do not have enough good things to say about him. Doug is the only pool repair guy you will ever need. By the way my pool is blue again, pressure back to normal, and no flow light is off. Thank you Doug.
