I hired Air America to install a brand new AC on 8/17/2019. I was a single woman and I feel like they took complete advantage of me. My contract is for a 3.5 ton Trane system. Since the install, my ac bills have continued to climb. Initially I had a service contract with Air America but they kept pushing to sell me more service, so I stopped using them. I have replaced my ducts, sealed windows, installed additional insulation. You name it, I have tried it to try to get my FPL bill down. Last week, I hired another AC company to service and clean my ac. They informed me that my ac is running so much because my outside unit is NOT 3.5 ton as my contract clearly states I paid for. I was undersized with a 3 ton. The units are supposed to be the same size! I have contacted Air America through emails and online and received no response. This is clearly fraud and I would like the situation corrected. I feel 100% that they figured I would never be the wiser on this. I reported this to the BBB. The company responded that they would send a tech out and then complete radio silence. No one has contacted me and they have not attempted at all to correct this issue!

It turned out we just needed a copper line leak soldered but Air America tech refused to do his job and check the unit or freon level. As soon as he got out his truck before even looking at the unit he stated just buy a new ac unit. When I insisted he do his job he didn't then his manager said it always good to get a 2nd opinion, i trusted them and believed them waited for 9 days with no AC burning up waiting for parts we didn't need to arrive. Daily calls to them everyday the truck was coming in with the part between 3pm and 4pm, they stated "better luck tommorow". Manager stated the part was intentionally "held onto for a over a week as they suspected there was a leak in the AC unit which wasn't communicated to me. Hindsight is 20/20 as soon as I called another company they came and fixed it within a hour. If Air america told me they suspected a leak from 1st day i would have paid to fix leak or got a brand new unit but they led me on for over a week. They never let me know about a suspected leak until i cancelled. 2nd better reputable company that came out and fixed leak immediately, turned out TXV part we were waiting on was good. Called back Air America for Deposit\Refund still waiting 7-10 business days, This was wrong a grave injustice and malicious on air america's part to lie and leave customer without ac probably waiting on the AC to lose all freon or break down. The AC unit is working fine now and doesnt have a bad TXV that air america misdiagnosed, customer service manager told me they intentionally held onto the part.

I had a semi emergency with my tenants in Parkland Fl. Air America came out and did the repair, seemed kind of pricey but I was desperate so bit the bullet. After repair was done I did a little research on cost of parts they list. Air America charged me $266 a part for something that costed $60-$70 at home depot. Shame on me for not catching it right away, shame on them for taking advantage of me because I was not there to screen it in person. Then the manager refused to talk to me after to discuss the descrepency. ZERO Stars, don't trust them

These guys were great! They showed up at 8:00 a.m sharp with a team of five guys and two trucks. They were all business and had the outdoor concrete Hurricane pad set and the new Mitsubishi Heat Pump installed in no time. Meanwhile two other guys were installing the 3 indoor wall air handler units and running the line sets. By late afternoon, the system was all charged with refrigerant, everything was cleaned up and all the units worked perfectly. I couldn't be happier and I'm absolutely amazed at how quite and efficient the indoor units are. They're rated at 19 dBA which is considered whisper quite; most indoor ambient decibel level is ~40 dBA. Seriously, this company did a fantastic job at a very fair price (and I bid this out to 5 other well-rated contractors).

Outstanding service and fair pricing. I had an AC tuneup on one unit and a replacement on the other. The A/C tuneup was straight forward and Chris communicated with me in layman's terms as to what he did. My second unit needed to be replaced and the next day the techs came out. They arrived on time and finished on time. They were friendly and worked very cleanly.

$10,349.88 is the amount paid to Air America over 5 years, 11 months - between 10/30/2012 and today. The unit has had the SAME error message and the SAME repair (for which we were charged numerous times) more than 10 times. Each time the error message CHECK SYSTEM appears the unit shuts down completely. The $10,349.88 includes purchase, "service" contracts, and repairs NOT covered by "service" contracts. Original AC install was $7,523 (less $1,175 FPL rebate, less $1,200 Rheem rebate, net cost to us = $5,148.00 paid 10/31/12, for 18 SEER AC with 10 yr warranty). (Remember, this means Air America received $7,523) Outdoor unit is Rheem RASL048JEC Serial # 7835W321200533 (contract was for RASL048JEl). Indoor unit is RHPNHM Serial # W301208744 Unit has been under "service" contract with Air America since purchase, but many repairs have been at extra cost. Since 3/13/13, we have paid $2,826.88 for service contracts + repairs. The last billed repair was 8/18/18 for $208.14, and this repair covered the SAME CHECK SYSTEM (complete halt) error message that had previously been repaired (and we were charged for repairs) by Air America at least 8 times. This error code stops the whole AC system. Six days later, on 8/24/18, we called for SAME CHECK SYSTEM (complete halt) error message and same stoppage. There was no repair charge 8/24 for the SAME repair within a week. Four weeks later, on 9/20/18 we received the SAME CHECK SYSTEM (complete halt) error message. We spoke to SAME Lorraine who scheduled last 2 repairs. She said this repair call would be $69.95 and that we HAD to agree up front to have them do any repair they said it needed. I said no to the "must do any repair we say". I said they had to provide cost of repair BEFORE I agreed to them fixing, since same error message had been addressed approximately 8 times during the life of this Rheem unit. Message here - avoid Rheem AC and avoid Air America. During the 9/20 visit, serviceman found a loose wire. There was no charge when we complained about the repeated repair of same issue. On 9/27/18, the unit failed again with the SAME CHECK SYSTEM (complete halt) error message . Scott (not sure if he is owner or manager) laid out the same conditions that had been given the prior week. This is either a lemon Air Conditioner or a lemon contractor -- or both.

2 years ago we called Air America because they were one of the few AC repair places that would come out on a holiday weekend (yes, there was a surcharge.) Unfortunately we needed a new unit. Since then we have had a maintenance contract (approx $150/yr, they check the unit every 6 months and clean the drain which was always a major problem for us and you get a discount on other services.) We have now moved to a new home and called them to check the 3 units. We had noticed a musty/mold like smell. When the tech opened the panel it was covered in mold. The next unit had live cockroaches crawling in it! We replaced all 3 a decent price. 3 crews arrived the next day (one for each unit.) We will continue to use Air America as long as they keep doing such fine work for us.
Description of Work: What started as an inspection for maintenance contracts turned into 3 new units.

Had a Home a/c replaced on 6/29/17. Installation went well and I filled out the paperwork for the permit with the techs on that day. I was told that the permit dept was very quick and professional and would put in for the permit from the city of sunrise after the job was completed and paid in full. IT HAS NOW ALMOST BEEN 4 MONTHS AND AFTER MANY PHONE CALLS TO THEIR BROWARD OFFICE AND DEALING WITH DONNY, I HAVE GOT NOTHING BUT EXCUSES AS TO WHY MY PERMIT ISN'T CLOSED OR THE A/C HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED WITH THE CITY OF SUNRISE !! I CALLED THE OFFICE MULTIPLE TIMES AND TALKED TO A DIFFERENT PERSON EACH TIME ABOUT THIS ISSUE !!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEIR PERMITTING PROCESS IS TERRIBLE, AND THEIR COMMUNICATION WITH THE COSTUMER IS EVEN WORSE !!!

Called Air America at 10am and they said they could have a tech out by noon. Tech called right before he arrived and he arrived promptly at noon. Jack was the technician. I can't praise his work and demeanor enough. He had to climb into the attic to replace a fuse on the handler and replace a piece on the condenser as well. All total he was done in a little over an hour. Another company had told me I had a leak in the compressor and even tough it was under warranty they wanted $1k to replace it. I asked Jack to check it out. He verified that I had good pressure and confirmed I still had 4.5 years on the warranty, so his suggestion was wait until it had a problem cooling and then think about it getting it replaced. I have always had good luck with Air America, and Jack is a super addition to their team. I would not hesitate to call a company as honest and prompt as they are. Do yourself a favor and use Air America!

Not great - paid over $500 over 2 months for the same problem - leaking air conditioner. Not convinced its fixed.
Description of Work: Do not buy your A/C unit from Air America - I thought I was getting a good deal from a reputable company. In the four years since I purchased the unit, I have had multiple leaks in a short period of time. Each time, they come back with another reason and another charge (and every conversation focuses on upselling my maintenance contract). Throw more $$$$ against a bad system is the only answer - never really trying to find the root cause. According to their phone rep, the root cause is Florida climate. Really? Not my first A/C, not my first year in FL (been here 25 years). What a scam. Stay away.

Their tech, Nelson arrive in a timely manner and spent a great deal of time evaluating the problem and explaining to us how an imperfect installation of a replacement coil was the cause of the leak. He also explained that the reason the previous contractor couldn't properly install was because of the poor access due to the original bad installation of the unit. He suggested installing a replacement air handler and modifying the placement of the new unit to conform to code. The following morning a 2 man crew arrived and replaced the unit with skill and efficiency. We have had no problems since. The unit runs quietly and the condensation is quickly removed through the old sump pump.
Description of Work: Because of a shoddy repair job by another contractor we wanted a second opinion of how to correct a leaking problem with a 5 year old attic air handler.

They come out every three months. I have never had so much problem with my air conditioner in my whole entire life. I got the system in 2009, and I have a book on it. Its this and this, and is costing me an fortune now. Every time they come out, its always something different. If they could do the job right the first time, they wouldn't have to come back out here so many times. They are constantly charging me three to four hundred dollars every time they come out. They are horrible.

Company didn't honor 10 year parts warranty and grossly inflated labor charge. They are a typical service company over selling and grossly under delivering. They had an opportunity to do the right thing and blew it! Poor customer service and after speaking with management, the “culture” is polluted from the top. I DO NOT recommend this company! Stay away from this company. I would give them 0 stars if I could. I bought 2 Trane air conditioner units from them and an extended warranty for labor. When the smaller Trane unit failed to properly cool my 2nd floor (even though I had replace the original 2 ton with 2.5), they kept coming back to try to fix it. It would only cool down to 74 degrees. They gave me an option of going with another Trane (same model) or with Rheem so I choose Rheem thinking it might be the model putting out less output. Naturally, because they replaced out a broken unit that they put in with a new one, I had assumed the extended warranty purchased was not model specific and would be transferred. Now that my Rheem is not working (after 4 years, still under mfg parts warranty), they are refusing to uphold the extended warranty that I paid saying it was for the broken Trane, not the replacement Rheem - and making me pay for the labor to fix it. These guys do shady work. I had the plumbing looked at by other technicians and they commented why anyone would layout piping the way they did with lots of twists and turns in the piping. My opinion is that it promotes faster clogging of the ac condensate piping so they can come out to do a service call more often. When I kept having problems with the Trane only getting to a low of 74 degrees on the second floor (the original ac was 2 tons and I had Air America install 2.5 tons), they came out to fix multiple times. In one case, I found that the service technician didn’t fix it, but re-calibrated by setting +4 to the temp it so that a 74 degrees would show up on the thermostat as 70 degrees. They finally decided to replace this faulty unit with a Rheem when I brought this up to them.

REVIEW FOR NEW UNIT SHOPPERS-LONG BUT COMPLETE First let me tell you that I am a avid reader of reviews and scoring here on Angie's List as well as YELP. I do not put as much credit on YELP as I do here on Angie's List due to the fact that these reviews are verified consumers. That being said, I want to review Air America Air Conditioning. I was in need for a NEW outside unit as well as a NEW handler inside my home. I shopped for a 5 ton compressed and a 16+ SEER handler. I called 4 locations on Angie’s List that were local to my home. All visited my home and I received a wide range of quotes. I read the article on Angie’s List about selecting a NEW air conditioner for your home and saw their opinion was more on the installer and less on the price. Basically stating that you get what you pay for. The equipment is all the same, what makes the system is how it it installed or re-installed. After seeing all of the quotes and then doing my due diligence reading the reviews, Air America’s scoring and reviews jumped out at me which caused concern and needed further research. I first received my quote from Jason, he was thorough and detailed. Jason took the time to explain what I already knew about my requirements but I appreciated his attention to detail as it was an affirmation of what I had already researched. (estimates from the 3 other contractors tried to tell me things that did not add up and tried to push extended service even before looking at my job). I was impressed with Jason and his sales practice. He was honest, straight forward and a good listener to insure that all of my needs were taken care of. I then saw all of the questionable reviews on Angie’s List, many were for repairs and very few were for new equipment. So I called the main office and asked to speak with the Office Manager Scott, (Ed replies to the Angie’s List Reviews but I was told he is just the internet “police” for their company) Scott, the office manager, understood my concerns, explained to me that their company policy is to insure that every client gets the best service and the most HONEST service even if it is not what the clients want to hear sometimes. After looking at their reviews I noticed that the majority of the bad reviews were for people who's A/C stopped working and they wanted a “quick fix” rather than a true correction of the issue. Again, you get what you pay for. Also, I noticed a trend of people complaining in hopes for a better price (a practice that seems to be more of a regular practice for many these days) I can tell you, negotiating a better price is not always the best way of getting the best installation job done. Again, you get what you pay for. I decided to go with Air America based on 1) Price (not the cheapest but not the most expensive either) 2) sales pitch and approach (as honest as a sales person could be in todays times) 3) Office Management (they recognized the review issue and took ownership of some and explained others in a professional way) 4) Integrity of the company with regards to others (Not one time did they ever disparage other competitors/contractors) And finally the unknown…The Installation. This is where the true statement of the company’s ethics are most noticeable. The Day was scheduled for a Monday at 8:30am. The crew showed up at 8:15am and quickly started to prepare my home. Tarps were laid out on the staircase and travel paths. Mark and Tito were the installers, they showed me the new equipment still in the sealed boxes. they walked the job with me, they showed me what they were going to do and they got to work. Both Mark and Tito were neat, quick and efficient with every step. They would often come and get me to show me what was being done and NOT one time did they ever try to sell me something (after all, they were the installers, not the sales team). They paid attention to the small things and made sure that the install was done smartly, clean and better than the previous install. Both Mark and Tito took great pride in their trade and their knowledge showed. At mid-day, Jason the sales person stopped by to check on the job to see if there were any issues that I had. I told him no, praised the crew, and sent him on his way knowing that it was now up to the crew to make sure this job was done properly. By the end of the day the installation was complete, they used mastic to seal all of the ductwork, they flushed the lines properly, they even made sure all of the connections were up to code. They showed me the new thermostat and walked me through for a final inspection. All of this was part of the package and not once did they try to sell me something I did not need. I thanked them on a job well done. Installation complete. Now if anything goes bad it is the hardware and not the installation, but this is covered by the manufactures warrantee. The next day I received a call from Laurene in their office as a follow-up customer service call to see how my A/C was doing. I did not go through the survey with her as I wanted to write this review first. Bottom line, Air America Air Conditioning has a great team from sales to installers. The installation team needs to be recognized as tops in their field. Both Mark and Tito were outstanding and very easy to work with. In 14 years, I will ask them to do the next job. (I will update this in a month if any issues occur)

They installed 2 systems and it took them maybe 4 hours for both of them. That included installing them up in the corners of both rooms, running the electrical out thru the walls and the condenser and a concrete block that it goes on. They are very efficient systems. If I had to buy another new air conditioner I would probably buy ductless systems. Best thing we ever did. I have recommended them to several neighbors.
Description of Work: I had 2 systems put in, one in the master bedroom and one on an indoor patio.

We have a separate system on the other side of the house. We have Mitsubishi, the ones that are the ductless system. They take care of the Mitsubishi Ductless System. It cools the bedroom, bathroom and another part of the house where the main air conditioner just doesn't push it cold enough. It is almost self sustaining, as a matter of fact they installed it 2 years ago and I have only had them come out once for a small issue. It's a newer system so it's under a 5 year warranty. Yes I am on a 5 year contract with them, they installed it, and they do anything you need for 5 years. That's just part of the purchase, I bought 2 systems from them. They were really good, good at the install, cleaned up well, gave us detailed instructions on how to use it, how to do the monthly maintenance on it, how to clean the filters and stuff.
Description of Work: A quick maintenance issue and inspection.

I don't sign contracts of $139 a year to contractors that do bad work. Their technicians are extremely knowledgeable and professional. They know what is working. They explain what they are doing to maintain it. They sometimes give me extra little things to maintain it. They answer any questions I have. They are the only company that seem to send out technicians with brains. Their price is expensive.
Description of Work: They check the air conditioner as well as maintain it.

I would use them again in future, I have a contract with them.
Description of Work: I use them for maintenance, they maintain the newly installed air conditioner to make sure that it is producing the right amount of cool air and isn't clogged. I am not an air conditioner maintainer and so, I don't know exactly the details of what they do. I do know that they look in the unit inside and they go up on the roof outside and measure with pressure gauges to make sure that the air is coming out at the right pressure and right temperature.
