Living room and dining rooms came out ok, but workers failed to prep the kitchen ceiling properly, and it soon began to peel. Had workers come out and patch the peeling areas only to have other areas peel soon afterward. This went on about 3 times before I finally told owner John Pesce that I would pay to have the ceiling redone. The workers came out and scraped the ceiling and said they would be back the next week to texture it. I have never heard from them again. Throughout this whole ordeal John Pesce was very difficult to get ahold of, rarely answering his phone or returning messages. He would make appointments and not show up or call. His workers would call 15 minutes before a scheduled appointment and cancel. Working with this company was an absolute nightmare! John Pesce is the worst business man I have ever encountered. Anyone considering hiring this company is welcome to come over to see the mess they left me with!

I called [member name removed] when I read this review. She an I haven't had any communication in quite some time. During our conversation she told me she was in contact with one of my technicians who has gone to her home to fix the problem in the past. She stated that he never returned her call. I was not aware of this. This particular technician no longer works for our company. We fixed three ceilings in this home. Two of the ceilings were fine. One ceiling we went back to correct 4 times. The house was built in 1953 and has a plaster ceiling. Therefore, we don't know the history of the ceiling i.e.: water, settling etc. At this point we are going to put a new ceiling over the existing ceiling. I told [member name removed] that I wasn't going to charge her to do this. She said she didn't think that was fair. Therefore, we settled on $200. We scheduled to do the work. As of today, I received a call from her stating she wants to postpone due to personal reasons.

These guys were responsive and very fast. I asked for prices to replace the popcorn ceiling and to replaster the ceiling. They proposed an alternative I hadn't thought of, where they'd remove the old ceiling and replaster, and I would then repaint, saving considerable money. That's what we did and the new ceiling looks great. It actually comment on how good it looks. The job cost a little bit more than I was expecting, but they did the work as quoted and I felt it was a good value for what I paid.

Fortunately for me I did not have to have any work done.
Description of Work: I was concerned that I had a ceiling problem because of bowing I noticed and felt that I might have a structural problem. Mr. Pesce reviewed the condition and assured me that the problem was more cosmetic than functional. He explained what I was seeing and why. I sincerely appreciated the time he took to explain the condition to me. Because of his honesty and integrity I would surely recommend his company and I feel that if I had to have work done it would be top quality.

I called on a Wed. and Anthony came out Thursday a.m. to look at my problem. I had some cracks in the ceiling that I had tried to patch in the past with not much success. I asked for a quote to repair those cracks. He gave me that quote and also gave me a quote to replace the popcorn with a knocked down texture. It was not a great deal more expensive to get the entire ceiling done in knocked down, so I went with that proposal. My entire house inside is also popcorn texture, and I always wished I had gotten knocked down when the home was built. Anthony scheduled his workers for the following Monday a.m. They arrived promptly in the morning and by late afternoon were all finished. They cleaned up everything and left me a beautiful ceiling. The entire experience was first class and professional.

The service is always excellent. They are all very professional, and they finish when they say they will. I think they did my 5,000 square foot house in just 2 days. They were timely, and also very good about clean up. They were very careful as well, and none of the furniture they had to move was damaged. I would highly recommend them.

We went with Quality because they had the best quote (we had gotten several) for what we were looking for and were very nice and helpful. They were able to come out right away and got the job done in one day. We had been planning to paint our kitchen and dining room for a while and they said this would be a good time because we wouldn't have to worry about getting paint on the ceiling since it was going to be getting textured and painted. We were warned that where they plastic is hung up the paint can sometimes peel off a little when it's fresh so we would likely have to touch up a bit. The patch job where the hole was looks great. You can't tell that there was ever a hole there. The texture of the knock down turned out very nice as well. The issue that we had was along the edges where the ceiling meets the walls. It was not cut well and the ceiling texture and paint got on the walls in many places. They said this was fine and that we could just wipe it off later but a lot of it doesn't come off and leaves a very uneven looking edge. The attention to detail wasn't there and they didn't seem very careful about keeping the paint and texture off the walls. I think it would have been nice if they could have wiped off where they got texture on our walls before it dried so we don't have this problem now. There were also a couple places where the ceiling paint was applied very thinly and you can see where we got paint on the ceiling when we were doing our walls. They had stapled up plastic to the walls so that the ceiling texture wouldn't make a mess on the floor and counters but left several staples in the walls and there was a very sticky coating over our floors and counters that was very difficult to get off. Overall the ceiling and texture looks great, we are just frustrated with the sloppy looking edges that we are going to have to touch up now as well the lack of clean up with the sticky counters and floors. We would hire them again but only on the condition that the edges were done much more carefully.
Description of Work: We had a water leak from our toilet upstairs and had torn out some of the ceiling in our dining room to get to the leak so we needed that repaired. We also had popcorn texture on the ceiling and figured we might as well redo the whole ceiling with knock down. The ceiling in the adjoining kitchen was done poorly in the past so they did the knock down ceiling in there as well.

The corner between the wall and the ceiling takes a lot of abuse because of the wetting of the ceiling, the scraping, the kilz, the texture and the paint. So when you pull the visqueen down the top of the tape has texture on it so when you separate it, it will sometimes leave a swipe. After the ceiling dries you can normally take a knife and scrape it off. I apologize for the inconvenience.

The original ceiling work was done several years ago. It had to be repaired 3 times, however, they completed the work to my satisfaction. During the summer of 2011 the ceiling was sagging. The owner came out, estimated what it would take to repair the ceiling. It was completed on July 8 2011. However, the ceiling was repaired with prominent stripes of plaster that showed through the popcorn / cement covering. Before his workers left on July 8, I was assured that it would dry appropriately or be fixed. The stripes remained. Several times appointments were made wherein this was to be fixed. The workers never showed up and the work was never repaired. No I would not hi re this company again. any again.
Description of Work: A ceiling with cement / popcorn for a porch that Quality Ceiling Refinishing put in several years ago began to sag. The company came back and repaired the ceiling with nuts and bolts along the beams, covered it with plaster and then sprayed it with the cement / popcorn mixture. It left prominent stripes.

Many things are omitted from Members story. We originally fixed the porch to her satisfaction as she states. Also, I wasnt dealing with Member. I was dealing with a real estate agent because it is a rental home. Afternthenoriginal repair she had a major roof leak. I explained to the realtor that the only way to completely fix the ceiling after the leak was to rip the entire ceiling out and replace it. She refused because it's a rental and they wanted an inexpensive quick fix. Therefore, we went back and tried to screw up the ceiling and retexture the areas only. After this was done she wasn't happy. She wanted it to look perfect. I suggested again that the only way fori it to look perfect is to replace the entire ceiling. Again she refused. Again, the reason for the damage was due to the roof leak after our original work was done which she was happy with.

Terrific job from the estimate by Mr Pesche to the work performed. This is a very messy process and was impressed with the care taken to completely cover the walls, fixtures and furniture. The ceilings came out beautiful. After painting the drywall work, you can't tell it wasn't original. Highly recommend this company.

John was out quickly to assess the damage and repair, made a quote and stuck to it, and quieted an upset condo dweller whose drywall ceiling was damaged by an upper floor toilet wax ring failure. John's experience with insurance claims and testy clients saved the day in keeping everybody calm. I haven't seen the repair but my downstairs neighbor seems to be satisfied. In Florida, that's high praise indeed. I'll use John as my "go to" with drywall in the future. Thanks again, John!

Joe said that the work would take all day. They were a bit late arriving so they had to return the next day(Saturday) to finish the job. I was pleased with the results except for a couple of places where the ceiling texture dripped down the wall. It just needs some touch up paint to make it unnoticeable. I plan do do this myself, because although I spoke with John about these spots, I've not heard from him. I had asked John if they could add an extension pole to my ceiling fan when they did the work and he agreed they could. However, the crew chief said the wires were too short so they just reinstalled the fan as is. I had an electrician reinstall the fan with the extension pole that I provided. I paid John a deposit on signing the contract and he gave me the Angies List discount of $100. The crew asked for the balance on finishing the work , which I paid. Maybe I should have told them I'd pay them the balance once the touch up work and the light bulbs had been inserted in the lights had been done. I am pleased with the result. It looks so much better. I hope that I will not have to deal with anymore sagging or cracking in that ceiling for years to come.
Description of Work: The ceiling in my lanai was sagging in several places where the wall and ceiling meet. Over the years, I've had different companies repair one place after another, but finally it just needed a major renovation. Joe Pesce, the owner, described how he could accomplish the repair and it sounded like a repair that would last.

The area worked on looked okay at first, but then the popcorn bubbled up and fell off the ceiling. We called John several times, but he gave us the run around, saying he would come out to fix it, but then he wouldn't come or call. After several calls, he agreed to come out, but only if he could do the entire ceiling. We said no, and finally he agreed to come out and fix what his company should have done correctly the first time for a futher $325. We felt that he should have come out to fix what his company failed to do properly at no charge. In the end, we went with another contractor. I feel robbed by this company. I paid them $175 for nothing. I want my money back!

Response from Quality Ceiling Refinishing Inc
This particular customer received an estimate over the phone. The estimate was for $175. I told them there is no guarantee of color match unless we do the entire ceiling. We do not guarantee a patch. He said because he was selling the house he said he didn't want to spend a lot of money so he only wanted a patch. I received a call from the customer and he explained to me what happened. I told him for it not to look like a patch we would need to retexture the entire ceiling. The popcorn that was left on the ceiling was "dead popcorn". To patch it up would be like painting over dirt. If I did a patch again the same thing would have happened.

They said they would be here at 9 AM and they arrived at 9:10 Am It took them 2 hours to prep the ceiling before starting the repairs. EVERYTHING from the ceiling on down was covered. It took them about 2 and half hours to repair the cracks in the ceiling. Next they prime the ceiling and got in ready for painting. Painting and removable of all the plastic covering, used to protect the wall and the floor was done by 4:30PM. was very impressed how professional the jog was done. I have recommended them to others who might need any type of ceiling repairs or painting.

We hired them to re plaster our ceilings, the job looked great when it was first finished. but now it is pealing, we have had them out once to fix one area which is pealing again. now for the past 2 months we have had nothing from them but a song and dance about when they are going to come out here and fix the ceilings. Once a week I have been calling them to schedule a time to come out. I never get a return call and never get a time for them to come out. I just want the ceilings to be fixed properly.

The owner arrived on time and at night (with no electricity) to do the estimate. When his crew arrived, they went to work right away and managed to fix every spot that needed fixing, around 15 large holes. The orange peel and popcorn areas blended VERY well. The knockdown areas didn't blend perfectly but much better then they were before, and they had already set that expectation with me before starting the job. Overall it was a great experience and our foreclosure house looked new again when they were done!
Description of Work: We bought a foreclosure and almost every room had drywall previously repaired from in-ceiling speakers that were ripped out and that needed to be redone. On the same day they also came to a townhouse I own to repair a hole in the ceiling where a pipe had been repaired. They were going to charge extra for painting, but I opted out since we were planning on repainting the entire house anyways.

Terrific service - all around. The owner and his son were really responsive in getting us a quote--and in scheduling Roger and his helper to perform the work almost immediately. They're neat, punctual, and the finished product looks great. We also appreciated that they didn't insist on re-painting entire ceilings--they did a masterful job of blending the repaired areas with existing ceilings in 3 rooms. They even moved furniture. (I didn't rate the price because we didn't have another quote to compare with. After meeting with Anthony about the estimate, I felt fully confident that his company would do the job right. And they did.) These guys are pros!

The company came in like "gang busters". they just wanted to get the job done. On the evening of the first day I was told to have tile picked out for the next day. My head was "spinning" but I was able to accomplish the task after I got off from work that evening. The next day the Company went to pick up the tile at the local Home Depot and also went shopping for all the Materials that were needed for the shower remodel (material cost $895.-), When looking at the itemized Home Depot purchase list, I noticed that some items such as trash bags and saw blades were also purchased, the cost for these items were taken off from the final bill. After 5 days of work John Pesce and I went over all the work that had been done. Up to that point the majority of the work was done. I pointed out that the ceiling in the living room was "bulging" and he said that he would have one of his workers look at it. i also told him that the dining room ceiling light had not been moved to the new location, and the half bath walls were not textured yet, as well as the walls and ceiling in the pantry closet were not done either. I was that this would be taken care of next week. On Tuesday the following week I came home on my lunch hour to see how things were progressing only to find out the "bulge" in the living room ceiling had opened up due to a pipe leaking water. The pipe and the ceiling then were repaired the next day (Wednesday). At that time I also noticed that there was a wire hanging down from the dining room ceiling, but it was not finished so that one could actually connect a light fixture. That Wednesday John Pesce called me at work and wanted to collect final payment. We agreed to meet that evening. When I came to the unit, workers were still busy texturizing the ceiling in the living room, thinking that all the work would be completed that evening. John then told me that I owed him $700.- more then the original $8955.- quoted. When I questioned what that was for I was told that a lot of extra things were done and he didn't even charge me for the leaking pipe and to redo the ceiling. Rather than arguing I paid him the money, which in retrospect I should not have done. The next morning I went into the unit to inspect how everything looked and I noticed that the ceiling in the kitchen was not painted. Walls and ceiling in pantry was not textured and painted, dining room fixture still not completed. Repaired ceiling and paint in living room does not match. After calling John Pesce numerous times for about 4 weeks he finally sent someone out to finish the work in the closet. I have been calling him since May 12 to finish the rest of the work. I am getting the "run around". He tells me I call you next Thursday to let you know if we can be there on Friday or Saturday. He has been telling me this now for about 4 weeks. It is my fault that I am in this situation. I did not do my homework. I trusted this man and thought that he had integrity. After all his shiny brochure stated that he was a Member of Angie's list and the Better Business Bureau. I found out that there were 7 complaints posted with the BBB, as well as complaints right here on Angie's list. But this is a little too late.
Description of Work: Project in a 1300 square feet town home to remove popcorn from all ceilings, texturize all ceilings and walls. Paint all ceilings. We have been in business for 31 years. We strive to make every one of our customers happy but realize that there will be few that we can't. We have an A rating with the BBB despite the 7 complaints she mentions above. This customer was acting as the contractor per her request in effort to save her money. Therefore, I had to go and purchase more material as the job progressed. Member was aware of this and was given receipts to prove every expense. We are currently trying to make Member happy and have gone above and beyond to do so. This was the case prior to this report. Also, the fact that she complains that we went in like "gang busters" is ironic to me considering she wanted to have the work done quickly. As mentioned before we will continue to do what we can to make Member happy.

THE MAJORITY OF THE JOB WAS GREAT. WE WHERE NOT TOLD THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO PUT THE LIGHT FIXTURES BACK UP. OUR CEILING IS SLOPED RATHER HIGH AND IT WAS DIFFICULT. WE HAD TO HIRE SOMEONE TO DO IT. SOME PAINT CAME OFF FROM THE TAPE AND AFTER I MENTIONED THE HEIGHT ISSUE THE OWNER DID OFFER TO HAVE A WORKER COME AND HELP US PAINT IT. I APPRECIATED THAT.

THE WORKERS DID A GREAT JOB COVERING THE WALLS AND FURNITURE. THEY THEN REMOVED THE POPCORN FROM THE CEILING. THEY FIXED THE WALLBOARD AND TAPED THE SEAMS. THEY SPRAYED ON THE PLASTER AND KNOCKED IT DOWN. WHEN ITWAS DRY THEY RETURNED AND PAINTED IT. THEY MOVED ALL THE LARGE FURNITURE BACK INTO THE HOUSE. THEY CLEAN EVERYTHING UP NICELY.

Poor quality workmanship; very sloppy work. I asked John Pesce to go back and take a look. He has refused to go back. I own several rental properties. I will not be using his company again

Response from Quality Ceiling Refinishing Inc
When I first read this report I immediately contacted the tenant and the owner of the condo (who posted this report). They both agreed that neither one of them never tried to contact me. VERY IMPORTANT!!! Then I sent my technician to the condo on Friday February 11th. He said the ceiling was completely refinished. A patch was initially agreed upon. But we did the entire ceiling. We replaced a bad section of drywall due to a leak and retextured the entire ceiling mixed with a flat paint. The tenant said water hit the ceiling before it was completely dry and smudged the spot. My technician repaired the spot. The tenants son was there and said he would paint the ceiling with a semi gloss paint when the ceiling dried. I have called the Member three times and I have received no return call from her. If I had received a call from the Member regarding the smudge that occured after our repair I would have gladly gone back to fix the smudge.

Well if you read my previous post, I was pretty irate about the lack of follow-through. Well, upon getting my post, we got a call, very polite and insistent that the owner was unaware that they dropped the ball the first time around. He profusely apologized, and said that he insisted on doing the job for free(!). We explained that we don't want anything free, just to be respected and well serviced. Bottom line? His crew was out here today doing the work, they did a great job, neat, tidy, cleaned up, not a speck of anything, and were pleasant and professional. I am now a customer for life (I hope I don't need THAT much drywall...), but it attests to the power of Angie's' List AND our ratings count! I am reassured that there are quality providers who care about their reputation. I DO expect a bill......
