This review was suppose to be removed. We went back to the home and fixed issues. And part of the issues that were addressed we weren't hired to repair but to make this customer happy we fixed them anyway.

I bought my house in early 2010 and did extensive renovations prior to moving in. I wanted the stained and dated popcorn removed and the ceilings refinished. Knowing that water is sprayed to soften and remove popcorn and that drywall repairs, primer, compound, and paint all take time to dry thoroughly and properly, I asked John how many days it would take to complete the job. John told me he pays "a lot of money" for fast drying materials and would complete the entire job in one day. I trusted that he knew his business and hired Quality to refinish my ceilings. Within a few months, several large "flakes" of material were falling from the kitchen ceiling. I called John and he sent a crew to make repairs stating that the failure was likely due to the primer having not been fully dry. Sound familiar? The repair was made under warranty but the knock-down pattern does not match well and the repair is conspicuous. It's now four years later and there are several large flakes of material falling form the ceiling, as well as several cracks forming. This is why you've subscribed to Angie's List, folks. You simply can't spray a ceiling with a garden hose, repair taped joints with drywall compound, apply primer, apply knock-down and apply a finish coat of paint all in one day. The materials don't have time to dry thoroughly and the result is what I'm now living with. The original popcorn might have been unsightly and stained from years of cigarette smoke, but it was still completely intact and properly adhered to the drywall. EDIT: John is correct. The work was performed in June, not July and the price was $2100. I should have looked at my receipt prior to posting. John did call. I'll simply say he was insulting on the phone and I'll leave it at that.

I am calling the gentleman immediately. First of all this job was done June 18, 2010 not July. And the cost of the work was $2100 not $4000. He mentions an issue in the kitchen which he states we went out to repair. The kitchen is the only room with the troubled area, and the rest of the house is fine, this tells me there could possibly be a problem with the kitchen ceiling. I would have to go back and look at it. I have not received a telephone call from this gentleman since our initial repair. This is why I'm calling him immediately.

The original crew did a fair job, but the paint is noticeably darker than the rest of the ceiling. They also left out 2 can lights for the paint to dry and promised to come back to replace the lights and touch up the chipped paint that came off the wall when they removed their tape. I called the following Monday and spoke to Anthony, who promised to call me right back. He didn't. A week later, I called him again reminding him who I was and he agreed to send a crew this past Thursday, which he did. Unfortunately, he failed to tell the crew that we have 15 foot ceilings so they didn't have a tall enough ladder. The crew called Anthony, who promised to send a crew the following morning with a ladder. They never showed so my wife called Anthony, who told her that they only had one truck with a ladder tall enough and it was sent to another job. He promised to send a crew at 8 AM on Saturday morning (today), but as of Noon, they haven't shown. When I called Anthony around 9 AM, he told me the crew was fixing a flat tire and would arrive as soon as it was fixed. When I called him around 11 AM, he asked if he could call me back. As of Noon, he hasn't.

I've certainly learned my lesson about the importance of researching a business, seeking references, seeing an example of the finished product and never paying the full amount until project completion. I was presented with a beautiful sales pitch, full of promises and 100% satisfaction, and at the end of the project I would never know they had been there except, maybe, a few pieces of the old popcorn ceiling. He reminded me many times that they have been in the business for over 35 years and many of the crew were like his uncles and had many satisfied customers. Unfortunately, this time, the Peshe's sent in the crew that either didn't have the skills to do a good job or enough respect for their employers to do a good job. I came home to a disaster. The first shock was the wall paint had come down in sheets with the plastic sheeting. Anthony Peshe reminded me that I had been warned that this could happen and that it was written in my contract that they were not responsible for damaged walls.I remember being asked if I had some touch up paint in case I needed to do a little touch up when they were done. Anyway, Mr. Peshe said he had other appointments and for the next shock......I handed him a check paid in full. Mr. Peshe gave me a number for a painter/drywall co. I consulted with several of these companies. Eventually Mr. Pesce decided that he would send his crew back in to repair the walls which would be a skim coat only, no primer no paint. He reminded me again that they didn't have to do this since the contract stated that they are not responsible for damage to the walls but they want satisfied customers. They were to also repair a ceiling that was only partially "knocked"down. One young man was sent back and the results were not good. The repair actually looked worse than the original. I contacted the owner Mr.John Peshe who came to my home to see the results. He admitted that it was not a good job and did offer to do two rooms over. I had to decide if I wanted this company back in my home. I believe that twice was enough. In summary. I ended up with most everything I own covered with a fine mist of 3M spray adhesive. It was used to stick the plastic sheeting together. It takes less time than tape. This was especially disturbing to have to clean this off of my newly replaced windows. I contacted the adhesive company and they were concerned that this product was used in a home setting like it was. There was ceiling compound sprayed onto and through closet doors and on bedding, onto my TV, and on my leather sofa. Needless to say, I had a lot more to clean up than a few pieces of popcorn ceiling. Mr. Peshe said all customers are different with different expectations and at one point offered to refund $500.00 which I have never seen. I have many photos, and witnesses but had decided to move on and get my home back in order having to spend a lot more money than I had ever anticipated. It was a good lesson for me and hopefully this will help others. There really are some good contractors out there. Choose wisely.

I am very sorry that this customer is not happy with the outcome of her ceiling. She was not happy with the look of the knockdown texture. She thought the appearance was too heavy for her. She thought it would be lighter. To make her happy with the look I offered to send out another crew to skim down the ceilings and apply a lighter knockdown at no extra cost. She agreed, we rescheduled, then she canceled because she didn't want to go through the process again. In regards to the walls, it states on our contract in bold letters that we are not responsible for pulled paint off the walls. Being in business for over 35 years we have many happy customers along with references to support this. I'm very sorry we couldn't make this customer happy. I believe that if she had agreed to let us back to apply a lighter knockdown she would have been happy.

I called quality for an emergency job.(3 sheets 4x8 sheetrock with 6 cutouts to be installed on the bathroom ceiling. Was told they would be there the next day. Two guys showed up unloaded tools and then called the boss because they didn't have a roto zip for the cut outs. They told me to call and reschedule then left. I did and for Thursday and Friday was told they would try to stop at the end of the day. Not!! Waste two days of my time. Friday nite I texted them and have never heard back. I owned a sheetrock company for 12 yrs in ct and the rockers are responsible for approx. 8 tools Roto zip don't leave home without it. My rocker would have been sent home get his roto zip, on his time then do the job. No accountability, unprofessional office for the lack of communication, unprofessional workers who don't show up with proper tools. Oh my rockers IF they forgot their roto zip would have used their tape measure and hand saw to do the cut outs.

This job was initially schedule to just hang sheetrock. When our technicians arrived there were multiple areas that needed to be cut out. This wasn't discussed when I originally spoke with this customer. Therefore, we didn't have all that was needed to perform this scope of work. When we were at this home a neighbor approached one of my technicians to tell him not to leave the truck unattended because there were people going up to the truck looking into it. The neighbor said there were people that would take equipment out of the truck. Therefore, when we were planning on going back to the home I would have to send another technician to wait by the truck because we go back and forth from the home for materials etc... At this point I told my technicians to leave and we would reschedule. When I explained this to the customer he said he had air conditioning work to be completed before we could return. I also did not receive a text as he stated. At this point we are not interested in moving forward with this job. Our apologies for any inconvenience.

The ceiling in our hallway collapsed due to the weight of water soaking the insulation and drywall from the air conditioner leaking. I was referred to Quality Ceiling Refinishing by the manager of a local paint store who said they did an excellent job. I phoned them on Friday afternoon and spoke with the owner. He said his son was working that weekend and could come and repair the ceiling on Saturday afternoon. When I told the owner which subdivision we lived in, he was very familiar about what type of textured ceiling we had. His son phoned me Saturday am to give me an approximate time of arrival. He then phoned me again saying it may be a little later than he anticipated due to the first job taking a little longer. When they came to our home they were both pleasant, very knowledgeable and did an excellent job. They worked efficiently, had all of the equipment that they needed with them, covered the area in a plastic tarp, textured the ceiling to match and cleaned up the mess after that. You can't even tell anything had happened to the ceiling. We would definitely recommend Quality Ceiling Refinishing to anyone who needs drywall work. Great response time, communication, professional and efficient

It is probably the most terrible job to do in the universe but the managed to do it with smiles on their faces. You would not believe what you have to go through to work in that atmosphere. You're working in a plastic bubble in this heat. It's a grueling job and I'm very impressed with it. They're not quite done but what I've seen so far, it's excellent. I would give them A+. Their price was reasonable. It was a little pricier than what I wanted to pay but it was probably well worth it when I saw what they had to go through.

Great experience. Called Anthony Pesce a week earlier and he was able to stop by to provide an estimate the same afternoon. I scheduled an appointment the next morning for the following week. The employees were knowledgable and polite. They protected the floors of our home from the point of entry to the bathroom where the work was preformed. They are not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. If you want it done correctly give Quality Ceiling a call.

Just bought the home. Home had old popcorn ceiling with much ceiling damage. Quality responded promptly to my initial contact, provided me with a clear and concise bid for ceiling work. Quality's crew were always on time, very professional courteous and communicated well with myself the homeowner. The project was completed in a timely manner, my house [and yard] were left in a clean manner with no cleanup needed afterwards. Quality returned for additional smaller projects in an exemplary manner. Great service!!

Considered removing the popcorn ceiling a couple of months back but put it off as we discovered the roof had a leak and needed repair before having work done on the ceiling. Called Quality and several other drywall specialists from Angie's list on a Saturday morning. John called us within 30 minutes of leaving a message and was able to come out that same day and provide a quote. We set a date for the work to be completed before even having the other contractors come out. On the day the work was to be done, Jason and Jesse arrived and started right away. Jason went over the work to be accomplished while Jesse started prepping the area. Each was extremely professional, taking care to do a great job, and left the room almost as clean as it was before they started the job. We were so impressed with the both gentlemen and the work they performed, my wife felt she had to call John and let him know how pleased she was immediately after they drove away. I was reluctant to rate punctuality because we were very happy with the work but, on the Friday before the work was to be done, I had to initiate contact to confirm someone would be there and around what time to expect them. I was told the team would arrive around 9 am and was just ready to call about 9:35 to find out if something had changed when the doorbell rang. Overall we were extremely happy with the work and are planning to ask John to come back and look at another job we would like to have done in the near future.

From the beginning Anthony and I communicated and he came out the day after we spoke, I couldn't be on site but he called me on my cell for the estimate to ask specific questions, we worked out a date and time. My wife's Christmas tree was an issue so I was going to wait till after the holidays to have the ceiling done, But Anthony said it would be no problem and he was correct, they put up 2 ladders and covered the tree so no breakage whatsoever and he had 4 guys show up promptly and mask everything off, (walls , furniture, everything), the scraped and fixed all the bad ceiling joints, did a nice knockdown texture and primed and painted. They crew was finished and cleaned up and gone by 6:00pm the same day. The ceiling looks great and I am very happy with the job they did. I only wish I hired them in the first place.`

Do not look any further then Quality Ceilings. These are THE guys you want working in your house. From the moment Anthony Pesce & his dad (owners) came over to review what needed to be done, until the very last worker left, these guys are the best. They may care more about my ceilings then even myself! They restored, repainted, resurfaced, killed mold, fixed discolorations, replaced board, repainted with precision and always working hard. Always on time. Kept a keen eye on keeping the house and working areas really, really clean. I mean, these guys did our entire house - every room - and they did a fabulous job. Any tweak, any trimming that needed attention, or request for fixing a tiny spot or two - they happily jumped on it...and that was after their effort with a perfectionist touch. These are all guys that care about their work, they care about their customer and they are proud of their work: they couldn't wait at the end of each day to literally show off what they had finished in each section of rooms! Thanks Quality. P.S. Roger as the lead on our work team was awesome - hope you get him - definitely request him.

I am a pastor who knows little about home improvement. This project has been a nightmare with this contractor. Quality Ceiling workers did the job very quickly and left a mess in front of house along with nailing pocket door closed. They were not professional to say the least. The stress cracks were not repaired. Bedroom ceiling needed to be repainted multiple times. The texture was put on too thick everywhere and sloppily throughout. One company said the texture is so thick it looks like exterior stucco. Another drywall company said that they have been called in on other occasions to redo poor work by Quality Ceiling. The father and son with Quality Ceiling are very winsome. The company was rated high on Angie's List and BBB. However there has been multiple problems with contractor. He was never on the job except to give bid and collect money. He came back some when called about problems but the problems were never made right. My wife and I found that he could have a temper and we lost trust in having him do any more work on our home. We are in the process of getting bids from other drywall companies to redo entire project because the work was so poorly done. Not only have we paid $4000 but now we will have to pay another company to redo and it will be harder because of thick texture. The owner has refused my requests for a refund. February 2014-I have now worked for seven months attempting through 5 consumer agencies to try to mediate a refund-The owner continues to refuse to discuss a solution.

Regarding description of work: We are a company that has been in business for 35 years. I’m absolutely sure the cracks were repaired properly with nylon mesh tape. [The member] states the cracks returned within a matter of days. ONE crack returned in living room. [The member] says that specific crack opens and closes. We both agreed that the ceiling looks so nice that we didn’t want to disturb the area and retexture the area only because it would be noticeable. [The member] and I bother agreed that if that magical crack becomes a problem we will come back and repair it for up to 5 (FIVE) years. Understand, we are talking about a STRESS CRACK. Please understand that [the member] and I have communicated about the bedroom ceiling (the ceiling he’s talking about in his complaint) SEVERAL times. We applied Kilz to the ceiling twice and painted it five times. He would go into the room with a spot light find a tiny fault and demand the ceiling needs to have kilz applied and painted entirely again. He was telling me what he wanted done. And we did what he wanted. At one point, his teenage son go so upset and yelled out in front of our technicians “this is why we can’t get anybody to do work here, and then called his father a name. Mind you this many is a Pastor of a church and counsels people. He would mostly text message me numerous times on SUNDAY. I pleaded with him to call me on my phone any day but Sunday. He would text me during the week several times and late at night. I would call him but very rarely would he answer. He would respond to most of my calls via email. I pleaded with him not to text me because I drive all day long and refuse to text while I drive. He confirmed with me that he has problems with all of the contractors he has hired. Quality Ceiling Refinishing does not walk away from any job. My men have been with me for 20 to 25 years. We are a successful business. This entire issue is about the ceiling in the ONE bedroom. This is about a paint job in the ONE bedroom. This man CANNOT be made happy. During this entire ordeal he was manipulating the situation to finally get me to walk off the job. I believe this [member] has orchestrated this situation from the beginning to try to get work done for free. No mention of the other rooms in the house. A refund is not going to happen. Too much time, material and hard work went into this job. I will not require the $500 that is still owed by him.

The removal and installation of the ceiling was not done professionally. The texture was supposed to match the ceiling next to the work area, which in no way even came close. The new texture they used was much too heavy. The new texture was over sprayed onto the ceiling in the next room by about two feet, and was much heavier than that room's ceiling texture. It looked terrible. We had them come back, but unfortunately they were not unable to blend the texture properly, so we just left it at that. We're having other work done and the gentleman looked up at the ceiling and said if we wanted him to, he would correct the heavy texture problem free of charge since he's doing other work for us. The workers from Quality Ceiling were well mannered, respectable gentleman, and cleaned up the work area at the end of each day, but we did expect a more professional job for our money. We also have cracking in the new ceiling which we didn't have before, along with a dent in our refrigerator and a scratched countertop, which we never even mentioned to the company as we didn't want to argue with them.

John, the owner gave us an estimate which was $1000 less than another estimate. After discussing it with my wife and checking Angie's list we decided to go with Quality Ceiling and refinishing. Two young men arrived promptly at 9am on Monday as we had been told. They were polite and told us what they were going to do. They said that they would be finished around 3:30. They put up plastic sheeting (they told us that they were going to "bag" both rooms) in both the kitchen and porch and went to work. They finished around 3:30 and we were unable to tell that there had been a big mess. They cleaned up so well that there was no evidence that they had been here except for the beautiful ceilings. Both men were very polite and careful. There had been an area of about 1 square foot which had been water stained in the kitchen. Lon, one of the workers assured me that it was not an active leak but an old one. He put "Kilz" on it and told me that at a later date I could paint the spot and it would no longer be seen. We paid nothing until the job was finished. I almost forgot, they removed the furniture from the screened in porch (I didn't realize that it needed to be done) and removed the overhead fan blades from the kitchen fan and porch fan. They replaced the fan blades in the kitchen but at my direction did not replace the blades on the porch fan. I told them that I wanted to clean the blades thoroughly.
Description of Work: Scraped the old popcorn plaster from the ceilings in the kitchen and the screened in porch. Then applied new smooth plaster on both. Kitchen approximately 20 X 20 and porch 10 X 18.

You can't tell that anything was ever there. They did a very profesional job.
Description of Work: They drilled holes in my ceilings to pull ducts through. They then plugged the holes and painted the ceilings for me.

What an unbelievable experience! I have never been so satisfied with a contractor that I've hired...and I have hired quite a few! In the past, the contractors I have hired did not seem to take pride in their work, so I have come to hope that as long as they did not make the situation worse, then I could live with the results. Not so with Quality Ceilings. The outcome was much better than I anticipated, simply because of what they had to start with. Anthony gave me the initial estimate, and then George and Larry came to do the job. Everyone was helpful with suggestions and tips. George and Larry did not mind my 107 questions I asked. But most important, the results are fantastic. Everyone I dealt with were true professionals and were very concerned that the job met my expectations and that it was they did their very best. I will not hesitate to call them again should I need more work.
Description of Work: Rescraped ceilings, patched some spots, applied Kilz, skim-coated living room, dining area, and hall, patched and matched SWIRL (!!!) on 2 other ceilings.

Living room and dining rooms came out ok, but workers failed to prep the kitchen ceiling properly, and it soon began to peel. Had workers come out and patch the peeling areas only to have other areas peel soon afterward. This went on about 3 times before I finally told owner John Pesce that I would pay to have the ceiling redone. The workers came out and scraped the ceiling and said they would be back the next week to texture it. I have never heard from them again. Throughout this whole ordeal John Pesce was very difficult to get ahold of, rarely answering his phone or returning messages. He would make appointments and not show up or call. His workers would call 15 minutes before a scheduled appointment and cancel. Working with this company was an absolute nightmare! John Pesce is the worst business man I have ever encountered. Anyone considering hiring this company is welcome to come over to see the mess they left me with!
Description of Work: Refinished ceilings in living room, dining room and kitchen.

I called [member name removed] when I read this review. She an I haven't had any communication in quite some time. During our conversation she told me she was in contact with one of my technicians who has gone to her home to fix the problem in the past. She stated that he never returned her call. I was not aware of this. This particular technician no longer works for our company. We fixed three ceilings in this home. Two of the ceilings were fine. One ceiling we went back to correct 4 times. The house was built in 1953 and has a plaster ceiling. Therefore, we don't know the history of the ceiling i.e.: water, settling etc. At this point we are going to put a new ceiling over the existing ceiling. I told [member name removed] that I wasn't going to charge her to do this. She said she didn't think that was fair. Therefore, we settled on $200. We scheduled to do the work. As of today, I received a call from her stating she wants to postpone due to personal reasons.
