This gentlemen MR Douglas Colwell of John Hogan roofing was professional and prompt. The honesty was refreshing. This is the king of company that should be recommended and applauded on every type of news media. What a great deal of expense this company spared us especially with putting kids through College. They should be nominate for some type of award.
Description of Work: I contacted Hogan roofing because Citizens Insurance wanted me to replace a roof built in 2001 by November or they would drop my insurance. Long story short, I dropped CItizens and found a honest roofer. I called for a quote on a tin roof. Before he gave me the quote he informed me that my roof was in good shape and probably still had another 5 years on it. He was wary of replacing a roof in good shape. Furthermore there was no charge.

Everything went well and as planned. Had a well worn roof on my single family house stripped and reshingled. First, I wanted a different color shingle than is usually used on residences. Secondly, I also wanted a couple of sky tunnels incorporated into the project. Doug, the sales rep did a great job in locating the shingles in the color I requested( blue) and also wanted arrranged for the skytunnel domes integrated into the roof with no additional cost. The entire roof was done expeditiously and professionally and I am quite satisfied with the roof in quality and appearance. Cleanup was top notch and I still haven't found anything on the ground from the job. I had a few estimates prior to selecting Hogan Roofing and theirs was the most complete and detailed. Doug, the rep on numerous occasions returned all my calls promptly and he was a pleasure to work with.

They came out and determined the issue was not with the roof, but there was a leak in the seal around the window. Even through it was not a roof issue they still repaired it.

First time buying a roof, phoned 5 companies for quotes. Robert from Hogan took the time to explain everything to us in detail along with shingle, drip edge samples for color match to our home. When he came to write the contract he took more time to answer additional questions. The Hogan Company phoned and scheduled the job, they arrived promptly on the day of service. As they removed old cement tiles they identified needed repairs to us before proceding. The Hogan team worked steadily to compete the job by days end, which was important to us as we have 3 dogs who were very stressed. The clean up of our property was on going throughout the day. The Hogan team was very thorough which was appreciated (as they kept our pets safety in mind). Follow up inspections and wind mitigation report, were completed within a few days. A very good experience.

Looks beautiful Have had other workers on the roof for other reasons, painter, solar contractor and they all told me they had never seen a roof whos tile is so well done and had no lose pieces and they see more roofs up close than I ever will He was not the lowest bid but in checking his reputation I heard nothing but good things Have had a few minor problems since the work was done, and I have to tell you after the fact most contractors tend not to be very responsive I have been very impressed that they come back and fixed a minor problem without me having to hound them While I hope I will never have to replace a roof again , I would use them again

Salesman was very personable and responsive. He made sure we understood the process and what we were paying for. The roofers showed up on time and had the roof ready for tiles in a day. The tilers showed up on time every day and did a beautiful job. Once they were one we only had a couple of problems. First one of the old tiles falling off the roof hit and broke the pressure gauge on our pool equipment. The second problem we had was with the tile edge by our front door not being straight. We called the office and they had someone out that day. They replaced the pressure gauge and started to repair the tile edge. While looking at the tile edge they got a call from the owner (John Hogan) and sent him a picture of the edge. He told them to stop, that they were going to replace it instead of trying to fix it. He then had them hand me the phone so that he could apologize to me and make sure I knew exactly what they were going to do. They had two guys show up the next day who redid the edge. I would not hesitate to do business with these folks again.

I had my roof done recently by John Hogan Roofing. I had a few estimates done and decided to go with Hogan because not only was the price right, but I felt comfortable with him when he came to my home. He explained all of the possible options with me, materials, workmanship and warranty. Being a veteran I also qualified for a $250 Veterans discount through GAF, which his office is handling, plus a free wind mitigation report. It?s been so easy because the inspector is doing the paper work and will contact my insurance company for me. During tear down of my existing and leaking tile roof one of his men pulled up a roofing board and inspected my truss tie down method. He came down and showed me the photos in his camera showing that my 1965 homes roof was in code and may possibly entitle me to an insurance discount. His workers were courteous and friendly and were very hard workers. I was amazed in their preparation before working. They covered my lawn with tarps as well as my A/C unit which was not working that day due to pleasant early April weather. As the job was winding down his men were pushing what looked like lawnmowers around my lawn. They were large magnets mounted on wheels to pick up mails and any other metallic hazards. Working with Hogan roofing office staff has also been a breeze, always friendly and helpful. I am 60 and retired. I decided to go with the GAF Golden Pledge warranty because the materials are warranted for 50 years and workmanship 25 years. I don?t want to worry about my roof. My last roof only lasted 18 years before I had to replace it. I am glad that I picked them and would happily endorse them to my neighbors.

John Hogan Roofing did a GREAT job putting a new roof on our home. And, they did it all in ONE day by sending out one large crew who worked worked very hard all day long instead of sending several small crews to do the job over several days. I was amazed. Hogan uses only their own employees?no subcontractors. They did a perfect cleanup afterwards including running a magnetic lawn mower type device that picked up any nails that may have fallen to the ground. Hogan Roofing recently had done three roofs within a couple of blocks of my home. Their salesman gave me contact info. I talked to all three and visited one of them. They all were very pleased and they all had their roofs put on in one day. Hogan Roofing is a ?GAF Master Elite? roofing contractor. This means you get a 25 year parts and labor warranty from GAF, the world?s largest roofing material manufacturer. GAF limits the ?Master Elite Contractor Certification? to only 2% of the country?s best roofing companies. I got quotes from four roofing companies. Two of them, including Hogan Roofing, had GAF Master Elite Certification. Hogan Roofing was substantially less expensive than the other Master Elite Contractor. One nice touch. Hogan Roofing pays an independent engineer to come our and inspect the roof and give you a ?Wind Mitigation Certificate.? This means the roof is certified to withstand 130 mph winds and you are eligible for a substantial discount on your home owner?s insurance. If you had to pay for this certificate, it would cost you several hundred dollars. The salesman asked if I had served in the military. I had and he asked to see some proof and had me fill out a form. He then told me that I would be receiving a check from GAF for $250 dollars in appreciation of my service. The other Elite Roofer never mentioned this. Hogan Roofing gives a $200 discount to Angie?s List members on a total roof replacement. There is a coupon on the Angie?s List web site. I?m an engineer and very particular. I wanted the roof to be done right, at a fair price, quickly and with no hassle. I got all that from John Hogan Roofing. I would use them again and highly recommend them. One last thing: Hogan Roofing?s quote was the last one I got. I got it on a Friday and called the salesman on Saturday and told him we were accepting his quote. He said he would come by on Monday to do the paperwork. Within minutes I got a phone call from John Hogan himself. He told me that he understood that we had a leak in our living room and offered to immediately send over someone to put a tarp over the leaking spot. This was on a Saturday?not a normal work day, In less than a hour a man showed up and did it. There was no charge for this and it kept us dry during a rainy period of about a week until Hogan could put on our new roof. That?s really starting out a job the right way. Update: 5/5/15: The salesman told me that since I was a veteran I would get $300 back from the material manufacturer, GAF, for doing the 25 year warranty. I have called multiple times to get it, but I have not received it. I was very pleased with the job, but upset that I still haven't gotten this.

I was contacted quickly on coordinating a time to look at the rotten wood fascia. Patricio was prompt and very helpful once he looked over the area in need of repair. He called me to describe what it would take to repair and gave me the price as well. He left a proposal describing everything and even left his personal cell phone on the proposal. After gathering other quotes we decided to accept John Hogan Roofing's proposal. Patricio and a helper were at our house promptly to do the work. I was very pleased with the quality and speed of their work. I would recommend this company as my experience was great.

I called and they were out the next day to give us an estimate. When I called to move forward, I got a call back later that day asking if they could come the next day for the repairs. I was very pleased with the quick turn around. The reason we went with this company is because the leak was very obvious by the damaged hardwood floor. They were the only company that actually went into the attic to see exactly where the leak is and the best way to fix it. They also took pictures before and after to be sure that I saw what they did.

Response from John Hogan Inc
I'm sorry that you felt that our company did not take care of your leak to your satisfaction. However, any repair is a 'bandage' on a roof, but our company does offer a one year leak warranty on all repairs. Leaks can be very tricky to find and diagnose, in addition many leaks start out slowly and therefore are not always noticeable at time of inspection. I've added the below information that I retrieved off the website (see link if you would like to read further).http://www.bestpickreports.com/blog/post/investigate-that-drip The report states as follows: Leaks start slowly. Early on, they won’t usually penetrate into the living space of the house. As Pat Dolan of Countryside Roofing in Chicago notes, this is one of the most frustrating problems with trying to locate a roof leak. “Over time the roof will obviously deteriorate, but in early stages, it’s more difficult to detect leaks,” says Pat. “People often ask, ‘Should I check for leaks on rainy days?’ Well, if the leak is really bad, you’ll notice it during a hard rain, but some leaks can be present that aren’t evident during rains—they have not hit the level of severity that would show during a hard rain.” Roof leaks can be confused with other types of water problems. Some leaks may be caused by improper flashing, a roofing problem that often times isn’t noticeable to a homeowner until much further into the leak’s progression. Pat adds that some roof leaks can also be misdiagnosed as something else, such as a window leak, a masonry leak, or a siding leak. Even professionals can have trouble tracking down the sources of leaks. Water intrusion can come from so many different sources in a house, it can be difficult to quickly diagnose a problem. “You almost have to open up the skin of the house to expose some of the details so that you can determine exactly where the trouble is,” explains Pat. “When people are looking for quotes on leak repairs, sometimes it’s very difficult to quote a job because you don’t know what solutions you’re going to have to employ—not until you open up part of the roof or siding and find out what exactly is going on underneath. There have even been times where the leak might have been a plumbing problem and not a roofing, siding, or flashing problem.” I hope this clarifies how it is not a quick fix and that several other variables are involved as well as other factors that are not listed (age of roof, tree limbs, etc..) that could have affected the roof and the ability to patch/see all needed leaks. We strive to make our customers happy, and we are sorry that you didn't feel we did a good enough job for you, and as our way of trying to resolve your issue with us we gave you a full refund.

John Hogan Roofing installed my roof, damaged some soffit which they replaced but what we didn't know at the time was that they did not tie in the new roof to an existing pitched roof properly even though that was something that was in the contract that they would do. We did not find this issue until 5 years later. For the last 5 years everytime it rained water was getting in under the pitched roof panels. Back in August of 2013 we had several days worth of extremely heavy rain. the water that was flowing under the pitched roof finally found its way into our attic space and started leaking in our kitchen first and then it ran to our master bedroom. We called John Hogan and it took many phone calls for him to come to our home to see the issue. He told us it was not his work but our responsibility to replace/seal the tie ins along the two roofs, we did what he said but still had a leak. After having 4 different contractors inspect our roof we found that the north and south end tie ins were not done properly by John Hogan roofing. It again took many phone calls to get him to come out again. He insisted upon putting a garden hose in the opening they left to see if it was causing the leak. Low and behold it started leaking again. He sealed this opening and it has not leaked since but he will not take responsibility and repair all the damage caused inside our home (i.e., the ceiling in my master bedroom ultimately fell down due to the weight of the water that saturated the ceiling.) I have filed a claim with the BBB and he still won't work with us to come to an acceptable resolution. In fact, he would not even respond to the BBB in reference to the claim. This was just this week so the bad mark on his BBB will be posted shortly. I am writing this review so that no one else has to go through this type of issue. The insurance companies no longer handle interior damage unless it is caused by a large item such as a tree limb that falls through the roof. They will not cover poor workmanship. He is very unprofessional, arrogant, does not return phone calls in fact his message on his cell phone says not to leave a message and he does not guarantee his work as he states on his website. Do not use this Roofer, you will not be satisfied either with his workmanship or customer service.

They came and looked and ultimately gave a proposal, but they didn't do what they were supposed to as it was outlined in the Big Deal, in particular fixing the pipes on my roof. It specifically said they could fix the pipes as per the language in the original Big Deal Offer. I would like them to come and fix the pipes.
