We recently purchased a vacation/retirement home in Clearwater, FL. My daughter and I flew in to Clearwater to clean the house and get it set up while my husband and son stayed home because they couldn't take time away from work. We only had a few days to spend there and needed to schedule plumbing work, a furniture delivery, find someone to cut the grass as needed, have a security system installed, and have all the locks rekeyed. I had a budget and some unexpected things came up, so I was considering putting off having the locks rekeyed, but felt a little nervous about leaving the same locks, since the home had had multiple previous owners and you never know who might have keys floating around. Even though we were going to have a security system, I knew we wouldn't feel really secure unless we had those locks rekeyed. Being new to the area I had no idea who to call, so I looked in the yellow pages and picked the first one that caught my eye...Clearwater Lock & Safe. I called and told the person who answered the phone that I would like someone to give me an estimate on the cost of having our locks rekeyed and he said they have straightforward pricing and told me it was a $50 service call fee and then he told me exactly how much it would be for each kind of lock I had to rekey... the more difficult ones would be $20 per lock, (wherever a key goes in) and $15 for the others. I was so relieved I almost fell off my chair! I don't know what I was expecting, but I was sure it would be a LOT more than that!! I scheduled them to come out the next day. We decided to schedule everything on the same day. We must have been out of our minds! I knew it would be a madhouse, but if all the service people showed up within their promised "window" of time, it would work out okay....but how often does THAT ever happen?? Well, Clearwater Lock & Safe showed up on time. Grant was the locksmith who came to the house. I later found out he's not only one of the locksmiths who work for the company, he's the owner of the company. He came in and started right in on the task at hand, which I appreciated very much since we had so many other things scheduled that day. I could tell he knew exactly what he was doing and he wasted no time getting to it. I could tell he was very professional and other than a few questions he needed to ask me, I knew if I just left him alone he would do his thing quickly and quietly and be on his way. Usually this is just how I like it when I have a contractor or service person in the house...I want the job done quickly and efficiently and then I can go about my day. However, for some reason I was chatty that day...nervous energy, giddy from being overly tired, who knows, but I followed the poor guy around, asking him questions. He didn't seem to mind. I found out he is an ex-Marine who had spent many years in the service...(and had more than his share of war wounds to prove it) He also told me that now he had been ordained and was now interested in "saving" lives. The military part explained a lot to me...the quiet efficiency, the fact that the "shop" in the back of his truck was meticulously organized :o) while the minister part explained why he genuinely cares about people, and has an interest in helping young people find their way especially. I really enjoyed talking with Grant while he worked and he even shared some items he had in his truck with us that he had printed out from the internet ...a funny story and some examples of some hilarious contraptions people have come up with...if he comes to your house ask to see them, you'll laugh so hard tears will come to your eyes! As if all that weren't enough, he shared info with us about the area...great places to eat, fun things to do in the area, etc. as well as things he noticed about the house that had nothing to do with locks, but were very helpful to know! Even though I added a couple locks onto the job that I had forgotten about when I first called, and I didn't have keys for most of the original locks, which made it more difficult and time consuming to rekey them, my entire bill for having 6 locks rekeyed and 4 full sets of keys made on site...including tax, was just $192.60. Can't beat that for peace of mind...and some interesting conversation!

I called Grant, Sr. on Monday and asked if he could fit me in today as I was going away on vacation and needed to give my neighbor a key just in case I needed her to check on my dogs. I wanted to be able to open both the back and front door with one key. Grant said he would be able to fit me in late in the day. I worked so he said he would call me when they were on the way. He called late in the day as promised and said how does 15 minutes sound. Great it works for me. So I left work and Grant, Jr. (he is such a nice young man) was waiting for me in my driveway. It took about 45 minutes for him to re-key 2 locks and cut me extra keys. Plus he fixed my dead bolt problem in 2 seconds. I was very pleased and impressed.

I had hired Clearwater Lock & Safe to install a dead bolt lock on my front door of my home. When the technician began working on the project, he couldnt seem to get the fitting right with the metal plate and the bolt it self, in order for the door to lock. So he proceeded to try and saw down the plate to make it fit. Well he ruined the plate, but didnt fix it until after I noticed the situation. He was about to leave the job! In my eyes, that was very unprofessional on his part. He ended up fixing the problem by getting another plate, but I cant believe he was about to leave the job, not done correctly!
