The technician was at my residence within 45 minutes of my phone call to "Better Homes Services." My refrigerator quit cooling but the lights still worked. He diagnosed the prioblem and replaced three electrical components in a short period of time and put the refrigerator back in it's place. He was very cordial and professional. I forgot to show him the $20.00 coupon from Angie's List so I paid full price. Two days later I called "Better Homes Services" and explained that I had a coupon for their services. They put the check in the mail to me that day. It was refreshing to do business with an organization that considers customer service and satisfaction paramount to their success.
Description of Work: I called Better Homes Service and they arrived one hour later. My refrigerator had quit cooling but the lights continued to work. When the technician arrived he spent approximately 45 minutes to diagnose and repair my refrigerator. The technician replaced three electrical components quickly and put the refrigerator back in place.

We had a build up of minerals in the dishwasher and it was not washing properly. It was not really a repair. He told us to put vinegar in it. After we did what he said, it temporarily fixed the problem. We still had to get the water softener because the problem was going to continue. They were prompt.

I have no record of email or contact from this person. It could have possibly gone into a spam folder or we could have actually called the person back and left a message with no response to us? I do not know, but what I do know is that we call everyone back and looking at our "real" reports anyone can see we work very hard to do a good job. I also feel that these type of "grades" are unfounded and should not be allowed to taint a reputable company.

This was a very poor experience. It took over a month to resolve our dishwasher repair issue resulting in having to purchase a new dishwasher. The technician came out repeatledly and was unable to diagnose the needed repair correctly. He spent hours in numerous visits. To the company's credit they refunded the money we were charged (they required prepayment for the part which seemed strange). They also did not charge to install the new dishwasher we eventually ordered. Although even with that we had to have the same technician back for a 2nd visit to correct problems with the installation. By the end the technician was extremely curt.

Response from Better Homes Appliance Service Inc
Our company did everything possible to repair this dishwasher and later found out there were problems with one of the parts we were receiving from the manufacturer (we finally found out after bringing the dishwasher into our shop and getting with engineers at WP, it is the new part, the touchpad that has a defect on the ribbon and connectors). I am amazed that we would get a poor review after refunding all monies paid, and installing the new dishwasher at no charge as a courtesy. We did make many trips out trying to repair this unit with the help of the tech line also at WP, only after digging deeply into this model and the parts did we find the info we needed to resolve the problem. We also spoke with several other repair companies we have a good relationship with and they had encountered the same problem with this model. I am very sorry that it was not a good experience but looking back, we did everything possible with the parts we were receiving at the time. As the customer stated, the technician spent hours and numerous visits - it isn't like we just said "sorry, we can't help you", if the tech was "curt" at the last visit, I do apologize, he is a very nice man and an excellent technician - I am sure he did not mean to be. I am also sure he was not happy at this time that we still had not figured out what was wrong with the unit. It was a very costly and frustrating situation for everyone, but we did stick with it trying to repair the unit and again, in the end, did the right thing - refunded all money and installed the new dishwasher at no charge for the inconvenience.

My 5 year old refrigerator appeared to be not running after coming home from work one day. The refrigerator compartment had warmed up and the freezer compartment showed signs of items starting to thaw. I unplugged the unit for 10 minutes then powered it back up. It started working again but I was concerned the unit would fail again. I called Better Homes that night and scheduled a service call. The person that took my appointment was very polite. We scheduled a visit for the next morning. The technician arrived on time and was very professional. I explained the situation and he looked over the unit and checked the temperature. Things checked out fine. He advised that sometimes a power dip or such can trigger units to go into a standby state and that a power cycle is required to reset the system. No problem were found. I was pleased with that and got the piece of mind that the refrigerator did not have any apparent problems. The unit has been running fine since.

My refrigerator was dead. The first appliance service that I called made an appointment to repair it on a Saturday then disappeared, so I called Better Homes Saturday afternoon and left a message. Better Homes called promptly Monday morning and got a repairman out there that afternoon. He was knowledgable and very efficient and gave me repair options that I understood. I opted for the upgraded replacement part and longer warranty.

On his initial visit, he moved the stove out across the tile and scratched the tile, which can't be repaired without replacing the tiles. When he came back to install the part he had ordered, I had to ask him to put something under the oven feet before he moved it. When I pointed out to him that he had scratched the tile, I didn't even get an apology. We then had to argue over the price, as his office gave me one price and he gave another and it was marked on his invoice as FIXED pricing, which I believe is always a consumer rip off. This was a horrible experience.

My refrigerator door started popping open and would not stay closed. I called Better Homes and set up an appointment. Larry, the technician, was punctual and was able to identify the problem very quickly. He advised I would need a replacement hinge and had to call the office to determine how long it would take to get the part. He told me 10-14 days and then gave me advice on how to keep the door closed in the interim. It was less than a week when I got a call that the part had come in and scheduled an appointment. Again, I received prompt, courteous and excellent service. The repairs took about 1/2 an hour. I will definitely call Better Homes again and would recommend them to anyone.

I put NA on price because I did not price shop; the only thing I can say about price is that the coupon on Angie's list is worthless. I just saw another review that said the same thing. The technician came out to look at the dishwasher and determined that the electronic panel would need to be replaced, which he would need to order. Since he was there, I asked him if he could check out why there was so much noise during the clean cycle. This noise had happened before and my husband stuck a piece of cardboard between the appliance and the floor which took care of the issue for a while. The technician took a look and said the cardboard had vibrated loose and said he could fix it with a piece of foam, but didn't have anything on his truck. I gave him a piece of weight room mat that I had upstairs which he put in place of the cardboard. The noise level is better, but it is not as quiet as it should be given that it is a GE QuietPower. So basically, he rigged it the same way my husband did. Then he turned around and saw my oven and said, "you better never hope that thing goes out on you because that will be expensive to fix"... hence my rating on professionalism. I had to give him a deposit for them to order the part and he left. The part came in about a week later, he came and replaced the panel and the dishwasher has worked fine since. When he gave me the final amount, I gave him the coupon from Angie's list and he said that since he didn't charge me for putting the foam under the dishwasher so that would cover that. Hmmm. The electronic panel was replaced which was the goal. I picked the company because of the high ratings on Angie's list and I've used several services from Angie's list. This just was not the same kind of experience.

I have a refrigerator that performs better than when I first bought the house (2 years ago). It's really quite now.
Description of Work: I woke up one morning ( 5 am) to the soft beeping of my fridge letting me know I should call for service (there's a little light inside the icebox that actually says CALL FOR SERVICE). Seeing as the temperature was at 50 F., I fired up Angies List to find someone. Better Homes came up and after reading I sent them an email. Bear in mind this is 7 am-ish. Within 10 minutes I got a call from Better Homes and scheduled a service call that morning. Of course, the parts needed were going to take a week + to get (the fridge is 10 years old). True to their word, they came back within that time and I have a refrigerator that runs better than ever. Bob is the point-man and did his work with no drama. All-told, a great experience that otherwise could have been a disaster with someone else.

The technician was very knowledgeable and competent and the office staff were friendly and efficient. Complex electronic appliances like this can be difficult to troubleshoot and it's reasonable that the first repair won't always fix it, so I don't blame the tech. I was very pleased with their support and also with an unexpected refund of part of my charges. This is the first time I've ever had an appliance repair company send money back to me, but apparently it's their policy that if their original diagnosis doesn't resolve the issue, I am refunded the cost of the parts, which was the cost of the motor in this case (about $275).
Description of Work: My 3-year-old electric clothes dryer was not completing its drying cycles correctly. It would shut off after 17 minutes and I'd have to wait 40 minutes before I could restart it for another 17 minute run, and repeat the process until the clothes were dry. I looked up Better Homes in Angies List and asked them to come out. The tech spent around an hour to look at it and conclude that the motor needed replacing. I took a few weeks to decide, then approved them to go ahead. They ordered the part and came back out and installed it. Unfortunately, even though it needed the motor, that did not solve the problem. So the tech came back and got on the phone with the GE factory help desk to diagnose further. They concluded it was likely the main controller board, with a lesser probability of it being another board. This would involve at least about $200 more after the $350 I had already spent. They suggested that I consider buying a new one but left the decision to me. I decided to buy a new one so we stopped trying to fix the old one.

Completely satisfied with the service that we received from Better Homes Appliance Service Inc. They have an excellent employee/technician in Brian. This was the first time that we used this repair company and did so based on the reviews that it received on Angie's List. It was a great experience. Brian waived the $49.99 service charge for coming out to provide us with an estimate because we went ahead and had them repair the Stove. He applied the printed out coupon from Angie's List web site and the repair was actually less than we anticipated. Thanks again for your great service.
Description of Work: My Parents stove's back burner went out on her 7 and a 1/2 year old whirlpool stove. Looked through Angie's list extensively for a company to have come out. I called on 12-12-2011 for an appointment to have a tech come out and provide us with an estimate of how much it would cost to repair. Better Homes Appliance Service dispatched Brian to come out the next day 12-13-2011. Brian arrived with in the designated time frame, did a quick assessment of the stove and found that the back left burner had burnt out. Provided us with a quote to repair the burner and it was very reasonable. It was much cheaper than paying for a whole new stove. So we had Brian go ahead and order the part for us and He was off to his next call. Later in the week we received a call from Better Appliance letting us know that the part has come in and when we wanted to schedule to have Brian come back out and install the new burner. Brian came out on 12-19-2011 a week after he was out to provide us with an estimate. He arrived promptly within the time frame provided. Got to work right away and had the stove's burner installed and working in no time at all. Brian was very professional, courteous and worked very efficiently. It was a great all around experience from Better Homes Appliance Service Inc. I would highly recommend Better Homes Service to any and all that are in need of service of their appliances. Thank you very much Better Homes Appliance Service and Brian for your excellent service.

I am so happy I found Better Homes Appliance, especially because I have been trying to fix my refrigerator since July! I had called another company rated here on Angie's List and they kept giving me the run around - claiming that I needed a new refrigerator door in order to fix the water/ice dispensing problem. Well, they came and were able to show me exactly where the problem was and fixed it on the spot!! Not only did they come out the day after I called, but they arrived on time and Jim was very professional and courteous. I would highly recommend this company to anyone!

I called on Monday and got a Tuesday appointment. The repairman arrived in the time frame and quickly discovered what parts needed to be replaced. I called them out to diagnose and repair a 7 year old washer. From my first phone call, the technician was scheduled to arrive within 2 hours. Right on time, he arrived at my tenant-occupied property, diagnosed the problem and called me (Landlord) with an estimate. Not only was I already impressed, but the technician was kind enough to tell me that my problem, and the associated cost to fix "may not be my best option." He and I agreed that a replacement unit was most likely my best option. I sincerely appreciated his expertise and his honesty, and gladly paid the reasonable service visit fee. Now my tenant has a brand new unit, and I'll keep Better Home's phone number for the next needed repair!

The technician they sent out was professional and knowledgeable. He went to work right away and fixed the freezer. He moved on to the washer and quickly assessed the problem. He then consulted with me regarding the value of the machine vs. the cost of the repair and advised against spending money to repair it. He then recommended several machines to consider when purchasing a new one based on his experience---which I greatly appreciated! They only charged $14.95 for the diagnosis on the washing machine which we felt was a real bargain! (The minimal cost for the machine diagnosis was based on them being here to repair 2 items, so don't misunderstand that they make service calls for $14.95)
Description of Work: Our stand alone freezer broke down and our washing machine was making noise. I called Better Homes Appliance Services, they worked with my schedule and sent a technician out at a time that was convenient for me. We have used Better Homes several times before so we had all confidence in using them again.

In addition to above comments...We found their name on your site. They were prompt, professional and knowledgeable. We even discussed some other appliance issues (new house and all). We will definitely call them for future needs. (Hopefully not too soon though.) We recommend their service if you have that need as well. Pricewise, I'm not sure how they compare to other companies. $49 service call goes toward repair costs. They offered a discount for Angie's customers and were very fair.
Description of Work: Our issue was with our dryer. We recently bought and moved into this home. The washer and dryer are older models, but working fine, so we hope to put off buying new as long as we can. The dryer was making loud (loud!) squeaking noises, but still drying efficiently. They diagnosed the problem, we talked about the options including "do we really want to put money into repair on an older model?". We decided to go ahead with the repair. Our tech (Brian) was prepared with parts to fix it immediately. We also discussed proper maintenance. It is currently working well. He pointed out that the dryer vent ducts needed cleaning, a service they do not perform. He passed on name of "Lint Busters". (No partnership between 2 companies.) They were also professional and solved that issue as well. ($90 for 2-story)

Because of the service we received we were very satisfied.
Description of Work: Because we have a refrigerator with a built in obsolesant indoor ice maker the repair man had to come back 2 times to get the manufacturers repair kit to fit properly. Better Homes was very quick to come and make the necessary adjustments which would not have been needed if the manufacturer had made to ice maker in the kit quality. If our refrig had been older we would have had to replace the whole door.

The normal technician was not available so the company had another service tech come out. He was quick, professional and educated. He fixed the problem which I believe was a fan that was not functioning but did tell us that it probably would only work for a few more months (the fridge was purchased in the 1990's). After he repaired it he waited 10 or so minutes to make sure that it continued to cool properly and let us know that if we had any more problems to give him a call. Fantastic service!

On Sept. 1st, repairman came to repair my GE Profile refrigerator which was running too cold causing freezing in my vegetable drawer and on the rear of the top shelf. The repairman replaced the main control board and also the sensor in the refrigerator side. The next morning I noticed that refrigerator side was too warm, then I checked the freezer side to find out that everything was beginning to defrost. The ice in the ice bin was melting and dripping.I called Better Homes Appliances and reported the problem. The repairman showed up to fix the problem at 10:30 AM. He worked on the refrigerator and pronounced it fixed and left. When I go home from work I opened the freezer to find ALL the ice had melted and so had all the frozen food. We called again and the repairman returned promptly. He removed the main control board and it was shorted out due to having been connected wrong. The repairman apoligized and replaced the main control board at no charge (of course). The refrigerator and freezer have worked fine since then.We had a full freezer and we saved what we could. What we could not save we discarded. We made a complete list of the spoiked food. We took the list to Publix and priced out the spoiled food. It came to just over $100. We wrote to Better Homes Appliances explaining our loss and asked them to make it right. On 9-19-2011, I received a telephone response from Better Homes advising that a check was in the mail..

I recieved the letter and request on Sept. 7, 2011, I mailed the member a check on Sept 8, 2011 for $100.68. We work very hard to do a good job and our technician was honest and admitted a mistake. Bob has been a technician for 38 years and is a good person and a good technician. His admission to the error was what I would expect him to do, not lie and cover it up with an excuse that the customer needed something else, etc. This was a computer generated check so there should have been no error on the address. I will call the customer and make this right - as we always do. Thank you, Lynn Thompson

Think we said it all in the above data. If all of the above is not sent to them we intend to send them a special note and let them how much we appreciate a company that puts themselves out in an honest way.
Description of Work: A Mr. Paul from this company BHASI perform very well and we were pleased that he cleaned out our Dryer to find the part that was broken and replaced it. We had an experience with this company in a strange way. Another company Top Cat came to find a problem with our Dishwasher and said that it would cost us $200.00. We said no way, gave him the door after paying his flat rate service call. In calling the BBB on this company we learned that his company was brought out by Better Homes Appliance Services, Inc. At the time we were not members of Angies List so were not aware of this until Paul gave us their advertisement card which showed he was a member of Angies List and BBB. Then we automatically knew who we were dealing with. We then knew why BHASI refunded our service call fee from Top Cat. We were very surprised then and even now to know what a good, reliable repair company we are dealing with. We want to thank them for having helped us out and we definetly will call on them for any future service we made need.
