I had several companies come out to give me quotes, but I chose Bayside for the most part because I felt they had an edge on customer service. Jim Rogers, who came to my house to give me the quote, gave me good information and also seem to try find ways to save me money. The two installers did a quick clean job and Bayside also fogged the ducts and air handler platform at no charge. I would say the only negative part of the entire install was since my unit was being moved to a new location an electrician was needed and that wasn't scheduled on the same day as the units being installed. I chose a Rheem system, worked fine the first day, but the blower on the air handler stopped working the next day. Bayside has been out twice to try to repair. Still pleased with the service from Bayside and I am confident they will get the unit working normally quickly.
Description of Work: Replaced heat pump, air handler, line set along with moving the outside unit to a more efficient location on the property. Also had added a Spaceguard Filtration system.

Bayside returned my call very promptly. Arrangements for repair were made for same time. Repair tech was right on time and diagnosed and fixed problem within 1/2 hr. Absolutely will use Bayside again.

I don't feel responsible to pay for the AC condenser on a half completed job. They should never touched the unit knowing they couldn't get the necessary parts (matching coil) to complete the job. Whomever wrote the company response doesn't know the facts since he/she wasn't there when I bought the units. The difference between the 13 SEER and the 15 SEER Units was not explained to me. I did not buy the 13 SEER Units because they were cheaper (this is an insulting remark), but out of my ignornance. In addition I had to call the owner to get the installer to correct 2 of 3 installations (cover holes where cold air was leaking). In addition a faulty condensate drainage had to be repaired. I suggest anyone who has bought an AC unit from this company, should check the air handler for air leaks and faulty installation. This is the first time I have been disappointed in an Angie's list contractor.
Description of Work: On 3 July 07, Bayside AC (Jim salesman) came out to give me a quote for one non-working AC unit. I ended up replacing three units, all with a 13 SEER rating (minimum required by the government). If he had explained the electric savings, I would have installed 15 SEER rated units (min recommended by Progress Energy). Two units are working fine, with both condenser and coil replacement. The third condenser unit was installed knowing the matching coil was not available. My wife was at the site, and if she had known about the problem, she would NOT HAVE let them install the new condenser alone. They installed the new condenser, leaving the old mismatched coil in place. Our working AC condenser was removed from our house and destroyed.

This customer is not being truthful when he says he did not know the difference between 13 and 15 SEER systems. He had done his own research, had estimates from several other companies and then Jim went over the energy charts showing him the difference. He bought the 13 SEER systems simply because they were cheaper. He purchased three 13 SEER condensers and 3 coils to go over his old gas furnaces. When we saw one of the coils was not going to fit the old furnace we offered a full refund on the coil. He refused and demanded we also give him the 13 SEER Condenser we installed outside for free? He then wanted us to remove all the equipment we had just put in and install new 15 Seer systems at no extra charge? When we refused this attempted shake down he filed a complaint with Angie's and the finance company he had used to pay for the job. The customer is correct that a piece of tape had come loose near his old furnace causing a small air leak and that was immediately corrected. What he forgot to mention is the job was inspected by a Pinellas County inspector and it passed with flying colors. This customer has also signed a letter stating that the work was completed to his FULL satisfaction. We feel we did a good job and did everything possible to satisfy a customer that was simply trying to get something for free.

WE ALL KNOW THIS IS THE LIGHTNING CAPITOL OF THE COUNTRY AND EACH YEAR THERE HUNDREDS OF HOME APPLIANCES IN THIS AREA DAMAGED BY LIGHTNING OR POWER SURGES. WE WOULD RECOMMEND HAVING YOUR ELECTRICIAN INSTALL A WHOLE HOUSE SURGE PROTECTOR ON YOUR MAIN ELECTRIC PANEL. THIS WILL STOP A POWER SURGE AT THE PANEL BEFORE IT CAN TRAVEL THROUGH THE WIRING TO THE REST OF THE HOUSE. IF YOU DON'T KNOW A GOOD ELECTRICIAN, CHECK ANGIE'S LIST FOR A ONE IN YOUR AREA. USUALLY WHEN A UNIT FREEZES UP IT IS LOW ON FREON AND IT CAN BE A VERY SLOW LEAK IN THE SYSTEM. IF THE REFRIGERANT LEVELS GET TO LOW, IT WILL FREEZE UP THE UNIT AND COULD CAUSE COSTLY WATER LEAKS OR OTHER REPAIR PROBLEMS. I scheduled an appointment to have my yearly A/C tuned up. I was told the technician would be here between 9am and 11am. The morning of the appointment, I was called saying that Dave would be my technician today and he would be here at 9:30am. I was in my car rounding the corner to get to my house before 9:30 when I saw the truck leaving my house at 9:15. I chased him down in my car and he pulled over and said it's too late for me to come back to your house now. Maybe I can fit you in later this afternoon. I was furious.

THE APPOINTMENT WAS CONFIRMED FOR 9 TO 9:30 AND WHEN THE TECHNICIAN ARRIVED AT 9 AM NO ONE WAS HOME. HE WAITED IN THE DRIVEWAY, AND OUR RECORDS SHOW HE WAS DISPATCHED TO HIS NEXT CALL AT 9:32. WHEN HE LEFT, THIS CUSTOMER PULLED HIM OVER A BLOCK FROM THE HOME AND DEMANDED HE RETURN RIGHT THEN TO DO THE MAINTENANCE SERVICE. HE TRIED TO EXPLAIN HE HAD JUST BEEN DISPATCHED TO AN EMERGENCY CALL, WHICH WAS A SMALL NURSING HOME WHO'S A/C SYSTEM HAD GONE DOWN. WHEN SHE BEGAN SCREAMING PROFANITY AT HIM, HE DROVE OFF AND REPORTED IT TO THE DISPATCHER. THE CUSTOMER THEN CALLED THE OFFICE AT 9:45 AND DEMANDED WE GET SOME ONE BACK OUT THERE IMMEDIATELY. THE DISPATCHER TRIED TO REARRANGE THE SCHEDULE AND GET ANOTHER TECH OUT LATER THAT MORNING BUT SHE HUNG UP AND HOPEFULLY FOUND ANOTHER COMPANY.

We were using the AC Company (as the previous owner had used on the system). That company was a top well known company. Our air conditioning went out in 5/06 and they came out and fixed the problem. During the holidays, the cooling went out again and they were called out again for the same problem. The technician stated that he could not start the compressor, it could not be fixed and referred us to sales. I wanted a second opinion and contacted this company through Angie's List. They came out and replaced the Hard Start, and stated the other company had put on the wrong size. The air was working without the immediate replacing the whole unit. They did recommend replacing the whole unit due to it is 23 years old. Having this happen, I felt I could trust them and will definitely have them to replace the old unit.

Overall, well. The unit is old and really needs to be replaced, which they informed me. However, after some prodding, they did perform just the $44.95 maintenance special as requested. The unit was quite low on freon so I paid for a couple extra pounds on top of the 2# included in the service special. The unit is now cooling, but not real well which is what I expected; but, it has lasted a couple of months so far.

ITS ALWAYS A TOUCHY SITUATION WHEN WE HAVE TO ADD SEVERAL POUNDS OF FREON TO A OLD UNIT THAT WE SUSPECT IS LEAKING. THE STRINGENT E.P.A. LAWS, ENFORCED BY THE FEDERAL GOVT, DO NOT ALLOW US TO KNOWINGLY RELEASE REFRIGERANT INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND GIVE US A CALL IF IT SEEMS TO NOT BE COOLING PROPERLY. POSSIBLY WE CAN DO A LEAK SEARCH AND REPAIR AND GET A LITTLE MORE LIFE OUT OF IT FOR YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT REPORT!

Monday the A/C stopped working, it got to 86 degrees in the house, it was 91 degrees outside. I called Bayside, they came out the next day and found and fixed two leaks in the system and recharged the system, did a diagnostic, to ensure everything was good.
Description of Work: A/C had coolant leak and was not cooling. Bayside found two leaks fixed them both and now A/C works great.

Install went well, but I discovered later I was over charged. Another supplier installed a new system and broke the 1-year-old UV. When I had him replace the exact same, it came back as $130. Bayside had charged me $835. When I called and told them, they tried to tell me the difference was labor and overhead. I asked what labor costs for a one-hour job like this and the manager said he didn't know. I told him his explanation wasn't satisfactory and that he probably just lost a customer. He hung up the phone.
Description of Work: Installed ultraviolet light in HVAC system to keep mold from growing.

ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE WE UNFORTUNATELY FIND IT NECESSARY TO FIRE A CUSTOMER AND THAT SEEMS TO BE THE CASE HERE. THIS CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINTS STARTED WHEN WE FIRST SERVICED HIM BACK IN 9/7/05. HE HAD A VERY OLD, BADLY RUSTED AIR HANDLER THAT LEAKED WATER INTO HIS CEILING. HE WAS MADE AWARE THAT IT WAS INSTALLED IMPROPERLY AND HAD NO SAFETY FLOAT SWITCH TO PREVENT AN OVERFLOW BUT DECIDED TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. HE CALLED AND DEMANDED THAT WE PAY FOR THE CEILING DAMAGE BECAUSE WE DIDN'T CALL HIM FOR HIS SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. WHEN WE TOLD HIM OUR RECORDS SHOWED HE WAS CALLED THREE TIMES AND WE MAILED A POST CARD WITH NO REPLY, HE GOT BELLIGERENT AND INFORMED US HE WAS A WRITER FOR THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER. THEN ON 7/5/06 HE CALLED BACK AND ASKED FOR A QUOTE TO INSTALL A UV SYSTEM AND THREE WEEKS LATER HE DECIDED TO HAVE IT INSTALLED. NOW TEN MONTHS LATER HE CALLS TO DEMAND A DISCOUNT BECAUSE HIS ROOM ADDITION CONTRACTOR (THAT HE WAS ALSO UNHAPPY WITH) TOLD HIM HE WAS OVERCHARGED?? WHEN WE TRIED TO SEND HIM COMPARISONS FROM ANGIE'S LIST SHOWING WHAT OTHER REPUTABLE A/C CONTRACTORS IN THIS AREA CHARGE FOR THE SAME WORK AND HE REFUSED. WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT WE WERE NEVER GOING TO SATISFY THIS GENTLEMAN WE SUGGESTED HE MAY WANT TO FIND ANOTHER SERVICE PROVIDER AND HE HUNG UP. WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS IN THE PAST AND HOPE YOU FIND A COMPANY YOU ARE HAPPY WITH.
