Was given an estimate for moving a one bedroom apartment, two men at $75 an hour and was advised they should be finished within 3 hours. They sent 3 guys to move a very small one bedroom apartment and charged $90 an hour. I asked them to move all of the heavy items first as I had a tight budget and family to help with the small boxes...well they started with small boxes. It took two of them to carry a 20 pound bed frame that my 65 year-old mother can carry on her own...and it just went on like that for 3 hours! The 3 of them did not finish moving the apartment in the 3 hours, since as I stated was on tight budget and had to ask them to stop before it went over $350.

WE PACKED EVERYTHING UP AND HELPED TO MOVE IT INTO THE VAN. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE NEW HOUSE, THEY DEMANDED $780 CASH (EXTRA, ABOVE THE AGREED PRICE,) TO UNLOAD THE BOXES. IF WE DID NOT PAY THIS, THEY THREATENED TO HOLD OUR STUFF FOR $500 A DAY STORAGE FEE. THEY HAD EVERYTHING WE OWNED. WE CALLED THE POLICE AND THEY SAID IT WAS A CIVIL MATTER. WE HAD TO GET THE CASH TO GET OUR STUFF BACK.

I managed the company from 1992 to 1997 for my uncle Gene, we had the office staff, the drivers and the movers all trained and we had excellent service scores with repeat customers and referrals from most of our customers. I decided to pursue my career elsewhere and I managed several local large van lines agencies and I built a nationwide labor service to load storage POD containers. Unfortunately my Uncle had moved back up north and promoted one of our lead drivers to manage after me and the company lost its quality, its referrals and name. When my uncle decided to retire in September I was offered the company, we took over in October 2012. I have taken great pride in bringing quality service to my customers and treating others the way I would like to be treated. My main management crew consists of my wife of 25 years, which was a contract packer / crew chief for a major Tampa Bay van line and my three sons which have been drivers, crew chiefs, a dispatcher, a warehouse foreman, a customer service rep, a safety and claims rep and a trucking company owner, together they have 40 years experience. My three daughters one of which was a customer service rep and billing assistant for a major van line, and when my five grandsons are ready they will take over. I am sorry these customers received the services and treatment they have listed but as of now we are focusing on being Tampa Bay’s best once again, under my watch there won’t be any unhappy customers. THEY ARE DECEPTIVE IN PRICING. THEY TOLD ME ONE PRICE OVER THE PHONE AND THEN IT CHANGED. THEY NEVER EXPLAINED THE PAPER SIGNED BY MY WIFE, THEY HAVE SIGNED AND OWNER TOLD ME, IT WAS TO SIGN THEM IN.

THESE PEOPLE DON'T GIVE BUYERS ALL THE INFORMATION THEY NEED TO MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE. THEY KNOW THAT WHEN YOU FINALLY LEARN ABOUT ALL THE HIDDEN FEES IT WILL BE TOO LATE FOR YOU FIND SOMEONE ELSE AND SO YOU'RE STUCK PAYING ALL THEIR OUTRAGEOUS FEES.
Description of Work: I SELECTED FATHER & SON BECAUSE THEIR RATES WERE LOWER AND THEY OFFERED 3 MEN INSTEAD OF 2. THE DAY BEFORE MY MOVE, MR. PHILLIPS CALLED TO CONFIRM THE MOVE AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH PAYMENT. MY HUSBAND AND I JUST CLOSED ON OUR NEW HOME AND WIPED OUT OUR SAVINGS TO PAY CLOSING COSTS, ETC. LEARNING THE DAY BEFORE OUR MOVE THAT I NEEDED TO COME UP WITH ROUGHLY $1000 CASH WAS VERY UNNERVING. I EXPLAINED WHAT A HARDSHIP THIS WAS AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS POLICY WHEN I BOOKED THE MOVE AND WAS TOLD HE CAN'T REMEMBER EVERYTHING; HE IS ONLY HUMAN AND PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. SINCE IT WAS TOO LATE TO BOOK ANOTHER MOVER, I SCRAMBLED TO GET $1000 IN CASH IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN THE MOVERS ARRIVED, WE WERE GOING THROUGH THE CONTRACT AND I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE A 6% MOVING SURCHARGE AND A 5% DIESEL FUEL SURCHARGE AND AN EXTRA CHARGE FOR MOVING APPLIANCES. I WAS NOT INFORMED OF ANY OF THESE CHARGES! I REFUSED TO PAY AND HAD TO MOVE MYSELF!!

MEMBER WAS TOLD ABOUT PAYMENT BEFORE THE MOVE. WE HAVE HAD TOO MANY BAD CHECKS OVER THE YEARS SO WE ONLY TAKE CASH, CASHIER'S CHECK OR MONEY ORDER. THIS IS OK WITH THE STATE OF FLORIDA. THE SURCHARGE IS DUE TO THE RISING COST OF FUEL. ALL TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE HAVING TO DO THIS. I WOULD NOT HAVE CHARGED HER FOR APPLIANCES IF SHE WOULD HAVE CALLED ME. SHE SENT MY MEN HOME & WE DID NOT DO THE MOVE. I HAD TO PAY MY MEN FOR 3 HOURS AND FATHER AND SON MOVING WAS PAID NOTHING.
