Ok, so I know this review is on an old project and things change, but when Mark converted my porch he did such a great job so when I saw that I had the opportunity to review on Angie's list I just had to say it. He bid the job and stuck to his pricing. He had never don't his before but is obviously skilled at not only the work but knowing how to map out a project, he has the mind of an engineer. Mark is the consummate professional. He researched everything he would need did a fantastic job and kept everything neat and clean. I really don't remember how much it cost - probably more than I mentioned but it was so long ago. In the subsequent years I have had many people in my home restoring my kitchen and bath after water leaks and they have been terrible with a capital T. Unprofessional, rude, late or no-shows and they end up doing more damage than good. Mark did such a wonderful job and set the bar so high for professionalism and fantastic work that I have had no one meet his skill level since. I'm so glad to see he's on Angie's list as I lost his number years ago and I will be contacting him again soon. Mark is worth every penny.

Mark did an excellent job. I really appreciate his attention to detail and "getting tings done right." I had a difficult wall situation which when finished, I could hardly tell what he had to do to make it work. I am very pleased with his attention to details and craftsmanship. Thank you Mark.[
Description of Work: He installed unfinished pantry cabinet and bead-board on wall. He also trimmed out my window and sliding glass door. and installed crown molding along wall.

We had completed the remodel of our pool bathroom and found that the transition between the new tile floor and the door threshold was changed and the off-the-shelf metal threshold was not a good fit. In addition, the old door was not making an air-tight seal. Mark came right out to review the situation. He noted that the door was original with the house, over 30 years old and the lamination was starting to show signs of age and a little bit of rot. Mark suggested replacing the door with a fiber glass door. Being near the pool with the chlorine exposure, a fiber glass door would hold up well. He gave me an estimate and ordered the door and hinges. The door was installed with an air tight seal and it made our newly remodeled bathroom that much nicer. I would not hesitate to hire Mark again in the future.
Description of Work: Mark replaced the door from our pool bathroom to the pool deck.

Mark did not do the work or provide an estimate as he felt my job was too small for his company.
Description of Work: I am not sure what category of repairs Mark Goeden falls into. I found him under handyman, and his description said he doesn't do major repairs. When I contacted him, I was told handyman, not a contractor. If you have a small job, this company is not for you.

Sorry you feel offended by my honest reply. I,m in middle of a big job at present and said I did not do drywall repair which left your job with little for me to do to just fix a sticky door, so suggested a handyman. Wish you best in your search. Please people , I have every right to kindly not accept your job and your free to ask another carpenter/contractor to fill your needs. I respect people hope you do same. We spoke with Mark about 6 months ago and got a quote and decided to hold off on the work. Mark quoted and we paid 75 dollars for him to come out and measure. We called recently to get an update on the quote. He came out again to re measure and discuss the door we wanted and the associated trim. He didn't have any pictures to show us so we found some similar product on the Internet. Mark arrived promptly on the day he said he would do the installation. We were surprised he came to do the work without assistance given the size of the doors. He asked if we had purchased hardware for the door. He had previously asked what type hardware we wanted so we assumed it was part of the quote. So that morning, at the last minute, we ran over to purchase door hardware. From the outset of his work it appeared like he was not experienced in this type of install. He mentioned several times that it was a difficult install. I asked him if he was capable of doing the work and he responded affirmatively. He dropped one of the sidelights to the French door and the inside portion of the double insulated glass shattered. He indicated he would request a rapid replacement and pay the cost of the replacement. He emailed me that night to apologize for the difficulties and committed we would be very happy with the end product. As he committed he returned 3 days later and replaced the sidelight and installed trim. On one occasion he had to ask my wife to assist him with holding something. The finish product was okay but not what I would expect from a professional carpenter. We are disappointed.

I expected this review . It happens, sorry you were not please , wife said it looked great at end result. It was a problematic door and yes I had a bad day with sidelight which I promptly replaced my cost and time. Also was deep in my pocket like i usually am to get the outside and inside finish to work. The floor was done just prior to install ( I didn't know this was going to happen)which was way over leveled and made it worse to unlevel the opening. Unseen problems are expected in these type of doors and worked out to fit usually at my cost . Hardware is always an owner buy for their likes are not mine and I install but I may have overlooked mentioning the second time out. The sliders had to be cut out due to a tight installation not normal for the door. I've done many jobs alone without any problems , my reviews back me up , they just over worried when I discussed the issue at hand.I'm considering giving up patio door replacement due to the nature of extra unseen work to make it finish right. Like I said , the door turned out great but they were just too upset over the side light breaking. I did a lot of changes to get what they wanted but will not let that happen in future and only give the product that will work best to work in the given job. appreciate the work > not the poor review for finished project.

Mark picked up the first time I called and was very responsive throughout the process. He came over the next day to check out our front door. We had been hoping to replace the front door, which was rusty and outdated but wanted to keep the side lights, which are still in good condition. We had been told by two different door wholesalers that we could not replace a front door without replacing the side lights. Mark said he could do it and gave us the measurements to purchase the door. We purchased it, painted it and bought new hardware. On the install day, there were unexpected hiccups (as there always are), the door itself was not quite the right size (actually 1/2 inch shorter than the original) and the side lights themselves were not level. Mark managed to raise the door/frame (which made me happy because previously I could not have a small rug on the interior to protect the wood floors because the door could not clear it) level it, insulate it and trim it out. The door looks nice, opens cleanly and most importantly feels much more secure and safe than the old door. The door and side lights look like they were always together. Because of the unexpected problems, Mark spent 7 hours -- much longer than I'm sure he originally anticipated -- to complete the job. But he stuck to his original price without question and really impressed us.

Never received a call back.
Description of Work: I placed a call to Mark on Friday, May 3, 2013 and waited until Monday morning, May 6th for a call back which never came. I finally called him back, he said he never received the voice mail for him to call me and sounded very confused about me calling at all. When I told him what work I wanted done (Gable ends on house replaced) he said "that he doesn't do that kind of work anymore". I said well "thanks for the phone call back" so I can move on down my list.

Mark did a great job. He wasn't sure if he was going to be able to fit me in, but made it happen on short notice. He showed up on time with the door as we discussed. He grabbed the wrong door by mistake, so he had to step back out to return that door and get the right one. That was no big deal he was fast and came back with the right door. Installed the door as we discussed, was very careful not to damage anything and was very clean. He took the old door with him and made sure to clean up the entire area before leaving. He also let me get his discounted price on the door at home depot which was great as we were on a budget. Overall Mark did a great job and I would hire him again. I would also recommend him to any other angies listers.

Mark was able to work to my schedule and was very punctual, both for the initial estimate and the job. He was very professional, and came prepared with all the necessary tools and supplies. Took him about 5 hours to complete the job. He took the time to explain his work whenever I popped in to check on the progress. Since this was an exterior door, it was wrapped in stucco and was wired for an alarm. He was able to work around the issues with ease. The final result was very neat and clean. The price was the same as what was initally estimated, which was reasonable. I felt comfortable with Mark. My impression was that he is an honest and straight-forward worker who is competant in what he does and takes great pride in his craftsmanship. I would definitely use him again and recommend him to others.

The project went well. I did my part to have things ready for him when he arrived. He was always prompt, professional and ready to work. The only delay was due to rain and some door parts that I had to order. I was supposed to call Mark to complete the doors when the parts came; but I was able to do them myself.
Description of Work: Mark took two bookcases that I had and joined them to create a wall unit.He overcame a challenge with bookcases that were not an exact match. He anchored them firmly to the wall, put in bead-board backing, trim, and build them up. He told me that he usually builds his own. I was grateful that he took on the challenge, listening to what I told him that I wanted and working with me to keep expenses down. I was very pleased with the design that Mark created. He made them match beautifully and finished off my wall beautifully!

My front porch has post and rail system installed on it, and I discovered one of the 4" x 6" support beams had rotted out at the base, and was no longer supporting the roof. So I called Mark Goeden. He responded promptly, and gave me an estimate, with me .providing the wood. The day after the wood had been delivered, Mark was at my house, ready to go. Mark was fast, efficient, and very talented. A job that I was sure would be an all day affair at the least, took only 6 hrs. He cleaned up, I paid him , and he was gone. My wife and I have a kitchen that we plan on refurbishing, and we plan on him doing that as well.
Description of Work: Removed 2 support beams Load bearing ) on front porch, and about 25- 30 l.f. of rail and spindle ( rotten wood ). Replaced same with new wood.

Once the project was started Mark discovered there was no header above the original door and no backboard behind the original siding, only Tar Paper over the 2x4 studs. . He fabricated and installed a new 2x6 header on the spot and added the necessary backing. Mark installed the new prehung door and finished the interior with molding and casing, the exterior was also trimmed. At my choice the exterior siding above and besides the door is still unfinished as I hope to replace the siding on the porch as well and will have the new siding trimmed to the door at that time. You will notice the door is unfinished which is also my choice as I would like to seal the door myself. Mark showed up on time and completed the demolition and installation of the new door in one day so our home was never unsecure. The trim work was completed on the second day. Mark is very professional and meticulous. He removed all trash and kept our home clean during the entire process. I recommend Mark wholeheartedly.
Description of Work: Our foyer is small and the front door was originally set to the side. There was no natural light at all except what shown through from the other side of the house. Mark removed the door and existing framing, basically removed the entire wall and installed a prehung door with sidelights. The pricing you see is what was agreed upon between Mark and myself for labor. I purchased the prehung door, the molding and casing, 2x6's, 2x4's, plywood, drywall and all materials separately. Mark helped create the shopping list which I purchased and had delivered. The materials are not included in the cost listed.

Findding Mark through Angie's List, I contacted him to see if he could help. He responded promptly, setting an appointment, providing an advanced estimate. He arrived as scheduled and even picked up some additional hardware "just in case" it was needed - and it was. That saved us time and helped him complete the job in one visit. He had even checked the manufacturer's website to see what hardware was already included. He completed the job with the utmost care for the new cabinets. He was very patient, working with my wife on just exactly where she wanted the pieces placed in the bathroom. He was very efficient and did not even leave one spec of dust behind. His experience and professionalism was a huge help. We were extremely pleased with the overall work and price.

I bought most of the material as per his suggestions (the plywood, the pine planks and the wrapping material). Mark is an early riser and he showed up on time, as promised. He brought all his tools and set up shop on my driveway. He started with the wall and started attaching the plywood from top to bottom. When he had gone half way, he then went to the wood planks on the ceiling. Then he started with wrapping the support beams and finished the plywood. Mark is very detail oriented. He installed some metal guards behind the plywood to prevent the stucco guys from nailing into my electrical cable. And his eye for great work shines when you look at the wrapped beams: he cut the edges at an angle, which made the new wrapped poles look like a built-in, factory install. The front entrance now 'pops’! You really need to look at the 'before and after pictures' below to appreciate this man’s craftsmanship. I would not hesitate to recommend him. He is an honest, hardworking, talented and affordable professional.
Description of Work: In my last review, I mentioned how I had Mark install a front door, where there was previously only a pass-through. That was a big deal to me because it wasn't your traditional door-swap install. He did such a great job that we discussed additional jobs, so I had him come back a month and a half later to install pine planks on the ceiling of my new entrance, and wrap some new support posts with decorative trim to make the house entrance look more 'finished'. Additionally, since an interior wall was now an exterior wall, and since I couldn't find the time to do it, Mark agreed to install some plywood on that wall to make it ready for stuccoing. The plywood install was not part of the original bid, and it made this one day job into a two day project, but we negotiated a deal and it worked out awesome.

Sorry again that we have rude people respond that want to hurt others with there personal angers. One I never physically viewed such door, only emails, and recall he never returned my emails . Yes we as tradespeople also deserve the same respect as we give the customer. As you can see I give all my customers respect and honest Carpenter rates/ prices, but yes there are those who are so called Handymen that do sup par work and low pricing below market. I cannot compete against them but will gladly try to compete. I will always provide quality work with quality material. I contacted a few contractors/handymen, from Angie's List and other sources. Some people i talked to would charge a estimate fee just to come out ( WHAT? are living in 1969 or something?) Mark DOES NOT charge this. He gives you an honest to goodness fair price, and has a great reputation that precedes him. Mark is VERY good at communicating with you via email. Weekdays/weekends/evenings - you ask a question he gets back to you very expeditiously. He asked for emailed pics of my door and the location I wanted it in. He then asked to come over for a look-over. After he felt confident he could tackle the job, we set a date for the install and he asked if he could arrive between 7:30 AM and 8 AM to get an early start, as we've been getting a LOT of rain as of late. He arrived at 7:25 AM (early, but hey, that's a good thing, right?). He put down a large piece of cardboard and a drop cloth to protect our wood floors. As he removed the trim very carefully to salvage and re-use what he could, he would clean up any debris that fell. He would then sweep and vacuum. He then installed the door AND the new hardware (lockset) we bought and re-purposed the interior trim. Needless to say: the area looks 1 Millions times better now that there is a door in there (a good looking door, that looks and opens/closes like a it was originally there from the beginning). We are extremely pleased with the level of professionalism and craftsmanship Mark Goeden posseses and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing some carpentry work done by a competent, courteous profressional, such as he!.
Description of Work: We contracted Mark to install a new front door. The opening where we wanted the door installed was the original front door location, but previous owners removed the door and made it into a trimmed out pass-through, while extending the front of the house by adding a covered space, like a foyer/mudroom, with a side front door entrance (this is very ugly - to say the least). We want to return the home to the original design and are removing this area, starting with adding a new, normal front door to the proper, original location.
