I would not recommend them to anyone. There was a lot of harassment from them all the way through every time I tried to state my case.
Description of Work: They called and said it would be $39 for the service call. The technician left and told me that I needed another A/C unit. He said it's $89 since he was there for the service call, and that if I didn't sign then he would charge another $89 if he had to come back again. He told me that there was one unit left, and I hadn't made a decision yet. I ended up signing a binding contract to get the new unit, when I did not agree upon it. It ended up costing me $4714.00. I ended up having to take money out of my savings to pay for this when I never officially decided whether or not I wanted to sign the contract with them. They had already installed it by the next day when I was trying to figure everything out and get to the bottom of this. I knew I was going to have to pay something for this, but I did not expect to be paying that much. Most other companies will cost about $2000-$3000, but not this much.

Description of Work: I entered into a one year service and Maintenance contract with Vans Heating and Cooling on 1/14/2012. On 5/3/2010, my air conditioner stopped working so I tried to call the company to come out and repair it. All of their phone numbers are no longer in service, so I cannot contact them. Apparently, they went out of business shortly after I signed the contract. If nothing else, they should call everybody that has an outstanding contract and tell them what their status is or provide a forwarding number for us.

Overall, the system was installed well. The job was clean and complete. It was the attitude and cost that sent us to another company for all future air conditioning needs.
Description of Work: New air conditioning system installed - emergency. Work completed in time and on time. Estimate $4000.00. Actual cost $6000.00. Included service call after 6 months - tried to sell extras. Basically, we felt overcharged - by a lot.

They are very good. They are very professional. They are very courteous and nice. Their prices are very fair. They are very honest and don't try to sell you something you don't need. They gave us a very fair price. They went over energy credits, etc. What we would get and what they would cost. They went over the size of units. They are very knowledgeable and professional. They are very fair with their price. They are also very punctual and quick to respond when you have a problem.
Description of Work: They replaced our air conditioning system. They also do our regular maintenance.

I only called them because they took over the phone number of the previous company that I used. Their representative came and he showed me a picture of a small child and said “this is who I really work for”. Anyways, my assumption is that I thought my air conditioning fan motor was making noise, but it was actually my neighbors’ that was 15 feet away. So he writes a bill for $1,900. He said he would knock down the motor to $560. He put in writing that a sanitization crew was going to come in even though I didn’t want it. He put it in writing that he would order the fan motor and when I asked how much it would cost to do a complete air conditioning system and he said they only do repairs, which means that he isn’t licensed. He went back up, without my permission, and I heard banging noise which was him acting like he was doing work. He came back down about 15 minutes later and added $419 to the bill off to the far left putting services performed. I call the manager at the store the next day and spoke with Charlie and told him I didn’t want anything done and wanted a refund. He said wait until my check clears and then they would refund the amount. So three days later I receive a refund for $80 and they kept the difference. We have a reputable AC company come out and look at everything and they told me that we did not need any work done at all and I still had to pay them $80 for that service call.
Description of Work: They write up an invoice and they check off a service call this comes to $80.

Response from Vans Heating & Cooling
The member states that our representative wrote up an invoice for a fan motor for $660.00 and was offered a Gold Sanitize package for $1,250.00. This is true. What is not valid in The member’s complaint is that he turned the sanitize package down. As we can prove on a signed contract from the member’s wife. A fax copy of this invoice will be sent under separate cover. Our invoice/work order number 8203 is clearly signed by the member’s wife and our products are clearly listed. The member states that a deposit of $500.00 was requested for the replacement of the fan motor and he issued us a check in the amount of $500.00 to proceed with the entire job as stated on our invoice which calls for a gold sanitize package and replacement motor. The total cost of the job is $1,910.00 and a $500.00 check deposit was received. Our invoice clearly breaks down the price of the fan motor and the gold sanitize package which was accepted by the member’s wife. This $500.00 check was not only for a fan motor replacement. The member also stated that we added an additional $419.95 in a “free” space of our contract. This is also not true. The work that was performed on site the day of the service call is clearly checked on our work order/invoice and initialed by our customer, the member’s wife. In speaking with our customer she acknowledged that her copy had the same information which she initialed at the time of service. Our invoice is a triplicate (pink copy is left with the customer and she clearly stated to us on the phone that her copy was in fact initialed as is ours. This was not added after as indicated by The member. We do not conduct business that way. The member makes reference to a Britt Air in his complaint of which we have no knowledge of and we never promised to refund the entire $500.00. We also reinvoiced his job for services rendered which totaled $419.95 and refunded him the difference of $80.05 based upon his check deposit of $500.00. We strive to ensure customer satisfaction and have not kept The member’s funds. We performed the full duct sanitization $385.00 and charged him for the initial clean and check for $34.95. As you can see The member obviously had a change of heart with his decision to proceed with the fan motor as well as the gold sanitize package which we respect. However, he is responsible for the services rendered at his home which the member’s wife initialed and verified that those services were in fact provided. We will send our paperwork for your review via fax along with a copy of our response. Thank you for your assistance in resolving this complaint.
