First let me say that no one but Chuck will ever touch anything in my house again. Chuck was the contractor from heaven that we all dream about getting and never do. The contract with him was itemized to a workable level. Going into the job, I knew what he agreed to do, and what he expected out of me. He would not rip out anything in my kitchen until the cabinets were delivered and built to make sure that everything was there and/or functional. When he was sure that everything could be installed as planned, then he ripped out the kitchen. He helped me plan a truly workable layout within my budget. He gave me choices of hardware, again within my budget, and was very forthcoming whenever I had a "good idea" about what the change order was going to cost. With the exception of the counters, he did all the work himself; there were never any strange sub-contractors in the house. I felt totally comfortable giving him the keys and letting him come and go at will. He not only respected my home, but didn't go "snooping" when I wasn't there. The counters were sub'ed out to H&B Granite, who did an excellent job, but he supervised them anyway. If that weren't enough, he showed up when he said he would and did what he said he was going to do. Chuck had an excellent sense of humor and was good about answering my stupid questions about why he was doing something the way he was doing it. (That's just me. I love knowing about the Process. If you don't care, he won't tell you, and I think that sometimes he would have rather I didn't care.) And for the women out there who care, there was not a single instance of me having to view a "vertical smile." A couple of things on the "con" side: Chuck does all the work himself. If you want your kitchen in three days, he is not the man for the job. If you want it "Done Right", he is. Chuck works around his children's schedule, so he begins later in the morning (around 10). (This was Not a "con" for me, I like sleeping in.) It means that he also works later in the evening, which means until he gets done everything that he wanted to get done that day. Another "con" is that Chuck is busy. If you want something done next week, he is not the man for the job. I have more work to be done and I am more than willing to wait for the three months necessary to get him back.
