My first phone conversation with this man did not go all that well. When I asked him if he needed to know the brand of the washer before setting the appt, he said, "Well, YEAH" in a tone of voice that left me feeling as if he thought I was stupid. I felt uncomfortable after that and was kinda worried about his visit, but kept telling myself he was probably just having a bad day and feeling frustrated about work and that everything would be fine. When he stood me up the next day, however, I decided to call someone else. When I picked up the phone to call another repairman I found a voicemail from Steve. He had shown up on the wrong day and was annoyed with me for standing *him* up. I was positive I was correct about the day, but people make mistakes, so I decided to give him another chance. When he came over he seemed nice enough. He diagnosed the problem and I was so grateful, because obviously I would have never figured it out by myself. He told me that he had a flat one-time fee of $79.95 for diagnosis and/or repair. If I wanted to order the part needed, I would be charged $142 for the part, with no additional service charges to proceed with the repairs. 'What, really?' I thought. I was surprised, but he confirmed this info. I told him $142 was a lot for me and I'd call him back after speaking with my fiance as to whether to proceed with the repairs. When it came time to leave, I asked him if he needed me to sign the invoice. He said in an irritated voice, "I need you to PAY me today." Taken aback, I said that I had always intended to pay him, but just wanted to know if he also needed me to sign. He did, so I signed, and I paid. I called Steve the next business day and asked him to go ahead and order the part. He gave me no timeline for its arrival, and didn't say it was on backorder or anything. I thought everything was fine, and thought the part would arrive within a few weeks if not much sooner. A month went by and I didn't hear from him. My fiance called and Steve said, "the part isn't in yet." Six weeks after his visit I called and told Steve that I was getting worried and that I never expected the repair to take this long. He said, "Let me call my supplier and call you tomorrow." Steve did not call me the next day, or the next day, or the next day, or the next. 4 or 5 days later I left him a flustered, p*****-off message in which I said that I had been expecting to hear back from him a few days ago, and I wanted to know what was going on with the part, because I *really* needed my washing machine fixed. It's been almost another a week since then and he still hasn't returned my call. Is the part on backorder? Can he not get a hold of the supplier? If so, why wouldn't he tell me? Is the man just scamming me, and did he intend to do so along? Update, June 29th-- Never heard from the guy, never received service or my money back, had to find someone else.
Description of Work: Steve from Certified Appliance was to fix my washing machine. He came over, diagnosed the problem, took my money and said he would order the part necessary, never returned, never let me know what was going on, and eventually stopped returning my calls.

Steve is one of those valuable service people that can be trusted with a garage door code. The work gets done when he says it will and is priced fairly.
Description of Work: My refrigerator was leaking water on to the floor. Steve had done some work on my dryer before, so naturally I called him for this. I also wanted to know if it was time to replace the fridge or was an easy fix. Sure enough, the problem was minor.
