George was great helping us with the design and choosing the tile, granite, and cupboards. He was very knowledgeable and had a low key, calm approach. Mary at the office was very organized, called us with times for workers and progress updates, so efficient! We had to delay work by one week as we had visitors coming, but the company was very obliging. The tear out was fascinating to watch and Rob did a heroic job carting things out and hauling up the new cabinets ( we live in a second floor condo). He also jackhammered out the old shower - who knew there were at least 6 inches of concrete to make the old floor!!! The cabinet installer did a great job also. He measured and leveled each piece so that the cabinets fit perfectly. The granite was fun to choose, and the man in charge of the crew absolutely knew what he was doing and we could tell he CARED about his work. It had to look just right. He knew exactly how to lay out the pattern and practiced taking it up and down the steps with the 3 turns necessary to maneuver it into the condo. We did have to have it come up in two pieces with a seam that you cannot see and a pattern that flows right through the seam. The two men who put in the bathroom tile were the most cheerful workers who did a great job of tiling and wiped down the floor after their work. The plumber came to do some work, and was called away. He was supposed to come back to finish the next day and forgot about us - the one down experience - but made up for it by eventually returning and offering to travel to purchase a new kitchen faucet for us that we found out we needed when our 3 year old faucet fell apart before the install. He brought back two faucets so we could choose the one we wanted. Jake was very knowledgeable and made all the necessary adjustments in door closings, shelf install, moulding strips, elecrical box attachment, and final walk through. The price was VERY reasonable for both bathroom and kitchen projects. We liked all the workers and staff at Academy Home and are very grateful for their work.
Description of Work: Academy Home removed our 40 year old kitchen cabinets, counter, bathroom shower, shower door, and bathroom floor. They installed new kitchen cabinets, a new kitchen granite countertop, and retiled the shower and bathroom floor. They added an new kitchen faucet, and a new shower head.

The install team came and did a very fast installation with 3-4 men working together. They came on several different days and stated they could not install the island in the kitchen unless the plumbing was moved. They could not install a full depth refrigerator cabinet because of installers mistakes on placement. They installed deco doors on either side of the cook top which were not ordered and substituted them for the spice racks which were desired. The cabinet doors scraped when opened and were doing damage to adjacent doors. The drawers were inserted with very obvious spacing errors. The laundry room cabinets were particularly poorly installed with cabinets impossible to open at the same time. Even the door handles were unevenly installed in an easy to eye the bad job. The cabinets in the master suite were done in a very bad manner with uneven doors and even questionable difference in the shades of white used. They have to be redone and drawers/doors repositioned to even them up. The wine rack was inserted wrong and a wine bottle would fall out of it if used. Four of the deco panels fell right off the cabinets because they will installed with pin nails, not glued or screwed to the cabinets. The overall errors of loose seams, crooked doors/drawers, have cheapened what otherwise should have been a high quality job done on a very nice house! We chose to opt out of the granite installation by this company. We certainly could not trust them to do any more work on this house. We were paid in full aside from the actual granite part of the agreement. The owner of Academy Home Kitchen and Bath was extremely incensed and refused to do the final walk through on this job. He threatened to take us to court for breach of contract. We signed off with him to move on with progress on this house and for our own peace of mind. We are left with making all the cabinet corrections by a professional cabinet installer. The corrections needed are well documented. It being such a mess may explain his defensive non professional posturing and refusal to make good or correct the horrible job he did. He is not truthful and certainly does not have the integrity of workmanship and reputation that Angie's List touted him to have. We are very sorry to have had this experience. He could not be negotiated with. We have no recourse but wanted to do this review. It may keep other people from the same horror story we have endured.
Description of Work: Designed cabinet layout for entire house. Ordered ready to assemble materials and did the assembly in own warehousing before bringing it to home to install. Parts on the statement of work were stated but not provided. Other parts were added but not discussed. Install was done but provider refused to do the final walk through with adjustments and warranty work from the cabinet company.

Response from Academy Home Kitchen & Bath
The reply below was our response to the Business dealings with the [Member Name Removed]'s. They have reviewed us on every platform possible but as we all know there are always 2 views on every situation this is ours. Also please keep In mind Mr [Member Name Removed] called the office on 4-15-16 3 weeks after initial review to ask us to service thier project. When we asked directly about the reviews, they denied having written them and said "We have no recollection of ever reviewing your company" The Baileys are untruthful, forgetful, and vindictive. If you research our company they are the only negative review and have used every platform possible to try to hurt us. Again this is our story with the Baileys Being this is our first Negative review in 14 yrs we will try our best to be as detailed as possible to explain our experience with the Baileys. Mrs [Member Name Removed] first visited our showroom in September of 2015. Very nice lady but unsure of her design idea and direction, Later to find out they designed and built the house themselves and it wasn't till her 4th visit to us and over 5 hours of meetings over 6 months that we were able to actually apply a material choice to an estimate. After choosing both RTA cabinets (Ready to Assemble) and Granite as a package deal for Kitchen, MB, GB, Pool bath, laundry the estimate was drafted. After we had gotten final choices from the baileys, we signed and next stage was delivery and install date. We started the install and all went well. Mid install they felt they needed added deco doors for area which we offered before contract and they declined. We ordered at cost and installed for no charge. 2 of the 12 decos Academy paid for personally. During install we couldn't install bathrooms bc drain lines were on the floor and would be under the cabinets, when we asked about the plumber the Baileys said he walked off the job and wouldn't return. Mr [Member Name Removed] said he would do the plumbing himself. We called our licensed plumber and he came and fixed several issues (Academy was not compensated for any of this additional work. We let the baileys pay him directly Which they didn't until later which you'll hear at the end of this response. The Baileys had made wall sizes that didn't correspond accurately with industry standard size cabinets especially RTA's sizes and Instead of 6" flat fillers Academy paid for 6" cubby drawer cabinets to make a use of an otherwise non functional space, this went unappreciated also. After the install was complete and signed off there was a valid punch list which we walked and they approved the final. When we went to schedule the granite template Mrs [Member Name Removed] said she changed her mind on the chosen granite (which we held for 3 months) and then said they haven't received money from the bank and couldn't make the next payment as the agreed contract. We let this go as they paid prior and we had no reason to believe they wouldn't honor the Contract. We later found out through ALL 3 of our Dist Mrs [Member Name Removed] had visited them over 6 times each shopping for granite after she had already contracted and held ours 3 months prior. The package we gave her included cabinets and granite. If it were just cabinets the promo wouldn't apply and it would have been a higher price. She then asked us to switch the granite from our material we stock at our facility and buy from the distributor. Even though under contract she's obligated to the stone we held for 3 months as we could have sold this Academy again helped the Baileys and relieved them of this obligation with no penalty. The price of the new chosen granite was 4x the price and 3 levels above what she chose at our facility. We even went as far as to to apply the funds allocated for the granite we held to apply towards her new choice. When we gave them the price they said it was to high and wanted to know if we could give them our price that we pay our distributor. All they had to do was ask for the invoice and they would have seen it Was the price we paid. After a week of no response on granite decision they asked us to come out to go over cabinets again after walk was Approved by Mr [Member Name Removed]. They said they hired company to supply their granite. We declined the walk though as we can't be liable with an unknown company in there after us. The breeched the contract and never paid the granite and the final. They came an signed an obligation release, we gave them a Lien release and then she finally paid plumber bill 4 weeks later. We will not rate customers as they did us, but I hope this helps you to be aware of the business practice of Norman and [Member Name Removed]. Call anytime for pics and sign off on this job 239-410-7080

We purchased kitchen cabinets and granite counter tops (plus bathroom cabinets) for a whole-house remodel through Academy. We worked with Rich (the owner) and Mary (our rep). Can't say how many great compliments we have received. The kitchen is absolutely gorgeous! The center focal point of the kitchen is the 6' by 8' solid granite slab island Academy installed in ONE PIECE. It has a beautiful chiseled edge that is unique and exciting. In our entire kitchen (with lots of granite) we have only one seam and would challenge most people to find it (it's that well done). Our kitchen is truly a show place! During the process Rich (and Mary) worked hard to get the exact cabinets and granite that we had envisioned. They were gracious and responsive. The installers were professional through and through. We highly recommend Academy for your remodel or new construction.

The installation went very well. They were able to install the largest part of the granite counter top in one solid piece. It was a little difficult, but they did it just fine. Very professional and polite workers. Clean up went well and the finished product looks great! I would recommend them to anyone. Their price was over $2000.00 less than a competitive offer for the exact same granite.

The removal of above mentioned items went well. It then took a few weeks to install the new cabinets, counter tops and tile flooring. The new cabinets arrived the approximately June 5. The week of June 9, they did go in and remove the old cabinets, counter tops and flooring. The new cabinets were installed in the kitchen and baths the following week. It took a few more days for the granite counter tops to be ready and delivered. I had made arrangements to be down at the house June 19. When I arrived late in the afternoon, they were still finishing up the tray ceiling and a few other things. The tray ceiling needed to be painted and I was only going to be there for a few days, so was told they had someone to do the painting and I agreed. The painter arrived next morning about 10:30 a.m. looked at the job and had to leave to go and get the equipment. I went out to get the paint needed. They came back around 1 p.m. and started painting. About 3 p.m. another painter arrived. At 6 p.m. I needed to leave and they were still working. I told them how to lock up the house when they left. I arrived home at 9 p.m. The next day they were there at 10 a.m. They painted until approximately 2:45 p.m. At that time I asked them to help me with something in the bathroom which they did and left about 3:30 p.m. A few days later I got an invoice for 17.5 hrs. of painting! I called the contractor and told him I was not happy with that. He did take off several hours. They are suppose to put a tiled back splash in the kitchen for me, but that still hasn't been done as of this date, Aug. 7, 2014. The owner is very charismatic and they do good work, when they do it. It is a fairly new company and I think they just have too much work for the number of employees. They start another job before they finish the one they are working on.
Description of Work: Removed old cabinets, counter tops and tile flooring in kitchen. Removed vanity and counter top in master bath and pool bath. They then installed new cabinets and counter tops and tile flooring in kitchen, installed new counter top and vanity in pool bath and master bath. They also removed old lighting and ceiling fan in kitchen and built in tray lighting.
