When work began in Master bath, Mark asked for payment in full for both. I paid him. When I added additional work, I paid the extra he requested. Work dragged on far too long. The over-the-commode shelving I asked for never was installed. After second attempt, I requested my money back for that portion. He refused! His workers were good. It was Mark himself who is/was the problem. I still have no shelves over the two commodes, and am out $614.00 that I prepaid.

I will start this review by saying have a good relationship with many builders, contractors, and remodelers in the Tampa bay and surrounding areas. I have been doing custom glass work in homes for almost 10 years. I met Mark Welch some years ago through working for a Glass company that he contracted to do work in a bathroom that he was remodeling. After completing the job and more conversation with Mark, he was interested in hiring me to do more glass work for him at other jobs. I offered to do glass work for him in my free time when I was not working for the glass company that I was employed by. The goal of this idea was to get him the same work that he can get at a glass company for a lower cost. (I was willing to do the work for less because I was struggling financially and I needed to do something to make ends meet) The very first job I ever went to do for Mark was a frameless glass shower enclosure installation at the “On top of the world” community in Clearwater. After starting the install process there was a problem right away, the brand new tile that Mark’s company installed was falling off of the wall, I contacted Mark and told him the glass couldn’t be installed on the lose/ improperly installed tile. He had me leave the job and told me he would fix it and reschedule the glass installation. I went back the 2nd time and the repair was done but it was done poorly, we still installed the glass but the tiles cracked because they were poorly installed again. I don’t believe that he ever fixed the cracked tiles and that is what the customer ended up with as a finished product and they probably never knew. The next time I did a job for Mark in Redington Beach, it was for the same customer that he had previously hired the glass company I was employed by to do some glass in the bathroom. He was now doing the guest bathroom, we showed up to do the glass that Mark ordered and the customer had to inform us that what we had was not what they ordered. They wanted a sliding door and Mark ordered a swinging shower door. They had to wait another week or 2 for the right glass to come. When we went back the 2nd time he had the right style of glass enclosure this time but it was not ordered correctly to fit the poorly built opening, Keep in mind that this is a newly remodeled shower that Mark’s company did so it should have been a square opening if the workmanship was any good (It wasn’t). We did what we had to do to get it in at Marks request but it took a lot of adjusting. Finished product there were some bad gaps between the glass and the tile and they were even too big to fill with silicone like the installation would normally call for, so in this case the customer ended up with a glass panel that was not fully sealed to the wall the way it should have been. There was also a piece of hardware missing so the shower that the customers had been waiting for so long was still incomplete. These customers actually shared with me there frustration with Mark and told me there had been a lot of complications with getting the job done. They were thrilled to finally be done but I felt bad because I think they were accepting subpar work because they were ready to be done. There were at least 3-4 other times working for Mark where the lack of correct materials or poor workmanship caused a subpar finished product, Hyde park job guest bath the glass didn’t fit and had to be re ordered, also the tiles in the master bath were installed crooked causing the shower door to sit crooked. Clearwater job tile installed incorrectly on curb had to be ripped out and re-done, 2nd trip wrong shower door handle. I also installed glass for the bathroom in Marks home in his upstairs bathroom, He didn’t even ask me how much he owed me, and he just assumed that $150 was good because that is what he had paid me for other installs. It was a type of enclosure that I had never installed for Mark before and it involved more labor than the $150 rate, when confronted about the price he never made it right and I made next to nothing after paying my helper but I still continued working for him because I needed the money. Moral of the story is that there are just so many better company’s out there that can do this work for you who won’t cut corners and will do the job right. Don’t accept subpar work when paying for something with your hard earned money. I kept quiet about Marks work until he decided not to pay me for some installations I did in Clearwater recently. I did (4) shower installations for him and he didn’t pay me at all for them and now will not return my calls or messages.

Mark and his crew were great to work with and I would recommend him to others. He had a lot of patience with my many design changes prior to signing a contract. He met his time line even when there were a few glitches in the schedule.

Wonderful team: thorough, dependable and extremely helpful. Mark has gained the deepest affection from all members of our family. It was obvious from the onset that he genuinely cared about us and the project he was undertaking. We were not just another “house”. It was important to him to provide a kitchen and baththat would not only meet our needs, but incorporate many of our wants and whims, as well.
Description of Work: I had the pleasure of working with Mark on the renovation of our kitchen and bathroom in 2011 and 2012. I can recommend him highly and without reservation. Throughout the course of the renovation, Mark was a consummate professional. He was accurate in his initial assessment of the scale and cost of our project. He was absolutely clear in his record keeping. He chose and managed the sub-contractors well. Our job was done with care and precision. He is a gifted woodcrafter and the custom bench and table he designed is absolutely gorgeous. In addition, he is extremely clean and tidy in the workplace. He and his assistant never left the worksite in disarray. They vacuumed all drywall dust daily. Mark took special care to prevent any of the job dust from trailing throughout the house.
