I hired XP Kitchen and Bath, located in Lakewood Ranch, FL to renovate my small kitchen and tile my home (840 sq. ft.). The owner, Fabiana Williams, promised the renovations would be completed in one week, which was the biggest selling point for me. Granted, I realize construction always has delays, but this has gone on unnecessarily too long. Another big selling point to me was that I would be supporting a local small business run by a woman. She left a bad impression for women business owners. On August 10, 2020 work was scheduled to begin. A lightbulb should have gone off in my head when I found out work had not begun. I was not even informed. (I left my home to stay in a motel with my dog until place was deemed livable). Fabiana had texted me before construction began that she would send pictures/updates every day and that she would “treat your home as if it were mine”. Unfortunately, this did not occur, unless I begged. If this is how she treats her home, I’d hate to see it. There were many, many days that she would not pick up the phone, reply to my text messages in a timely manner, or respond to my emails. We are now more than 8 weeks into this American horror story and we are no where near completion. Fabiana came to my home (very rare) so that I could point out what needed to be fixed and completed. I had 2 pages full of work. She did not take notes. She told me that my house would now be her number one priority from that day forward (this was on 9/16). On that day, I gave her $3000 in cash to continue renovations because she gave me such hope. THE only reason she actually showed up – not to take notes on what needed to be done, was for money! On 9/16 an electrician was scheduled to come at 3:30. I waited patiently. I received a text he would be here at 4:30. Then another text he would arrive at 4:45. He never showed up. A carpenter was scheduled to come Monday ,9/21, in the morning. He never showed up. I never received a call about this. Finally, I texted XP Kitchen and Bath and asked when the carpenter was coming. Three hours later, she texted back that she was trying to get a hold of him. He never showed up. Tuesday, a painter was scheduled to come in the morning. That also did not happen, nor did I get a phone call from Fabiana. . Numerous times Fabiana said “she was on her way over to my home”. Never,ever did she show u (except on 16th to get money). What work has been done has been “shoddy” (according to a contractor I had come over to evaluate the work and possibly take over the job.) Another contractor told me “it looks like this was someone’s first attempt at kitchen renovation”. One contractor didn’t even want to take over the job. The worst of the poor workmanship of this job includes: uneven door cabinets, cabinet doors that won’t close, wrong sized cabinets, no back panel to some of the cabinets, no pulls or knobs, incorrect granite installed, new fridge does not fit opening (can’t open door). I cannot return the fridge because that window of opportunity has passed. The workers broke a ceiling fan (which I bought a few months ago), bedroom and bathroom doors are still not back on hinges, incomplete backsplash, faucet doesn’t function properly and is not the one I wanted (I told her to save the faucet that was originally there. This was to be reinstalled when sink/countertops are finished. She threw my new $250 faucet out! Microwave opening is over 6 ft from floor) which makes it unreachable. Plastic wasn’t used to prevent dust from entering rest of house which has become a cleaning nightmare for me. Cups or bottles were placed on top of a $750 speaker and there are permanent marks on it. A deep cleaning was supposedly done on 9/22. The “deep cleaning” was done because “we are almost finished”. The only thing that was cleaned was stove top. Saw dust, drywall dust is everywhere. The worst part of this job was the total lack of communication. Fabiana said I would receive pictures/updates everyday. Did not happen. She never answers her phone. I have not had anyone working on the house in almost two weeks. The owner refuses to pick up the phone. She says she will only communicate with me via email. That is totally unacceptable. Who has home renovations done via email? I don’t know what is happening next or when I should be home. I have asked hundreds of times to let me know what is happening and she does not let me know. Even if something is scheduled it does not happen on the date and time specified. Fabiana has been to my home twice. I believe it is her responsibility to check on the contractor’s work on a daily basis. I also believe it is her responsibility to make sure contractors show up on time. She once told me she has no control over what the contractors do! During the last few days she has not picked up the phone at all – even when I had an emergency and texted her she needed to call me ASAP. She never called.
