It went well. I was a little concerned at first because their estimate was almost $3000.00 less than 2 other estimates. Although I did end up choosing the lower price my concern was that the workmanship might not be as good as the more expensive quotes. I don't know much about roofing, but it appears to have been a good job. They came when they said they would. They finished the job in several days, and they did a good job of cleaning up after the work. I did have one damaged piece of aluminum flashing. I called and they came right out and replaced it. It has only been about a month since they did the work but we have had rain almost every day since then and we have not seen any leaks.

This was my first experience with Angie's List - it was extremely disappointing and as a result we will never use Angies List again. I've had much better results in the past by perusing the yellow pages, interviewing on the phone and inviting 3 contractors for bids and selecting the best . As we have owned and restored many rental properties in the past we are not new to hiring contractors for building repairs We selected Quality Plus Roofing in Bradenton, Florida from Angies List t to remove our old roofing, replace any damaged boards and apply a new barrier and shingles. We have no complaint with the secondary barrier or shingles but they have not been time tested. I am disturbed and concerned that Quality Roofing replaced some our our damaged roof boards with cheap softwood boards instead of pressure treated, cedar or other insect resistant wood. I am afraid that these roofers have created a varitable banquet for our voracious Florida dry wood termites. The estimator, Jon Pedone, was helpful during our initial contact before we signed the contract and said repeatedly that his company provides quality work for the best price; in fact, they are not the lowest bid. After our experience with them I also question the "quality" claim. Despite my request for a hard copy of their insurance confirmation and verification that the members of their crew were employees covered under their policy, I did not receive one - only a verbal reassurance. The crew showed up on time, but when I saw 6 or 7 of them scrambling around on a small slippery roof without safety precautions; I realized I should have been much more demanding from the start. Did they really have insurance and were these really employees or day laborers? Fortunately there were no accidents and the old roofing materials were removed and the new ones were installed.; hopefully correctly. Jon Pedone assured us that drop cloths would be in place to catch the debris from the old roof; thereby protecting our property. In addition, the property would be returned to the condition as it was found before Quality Roofing began, including "sweeping" the perimeter of the house with magnets to pickup up any stray nails. The bulk of the old shingles and tarpaper were picked up ;and hauled away, but otherwise, the property was a mess, especially the interior of the house. Quality Plus Roofers had swept the roof with a course broom and brushed a hugh amount of gravel, shredded shingles, tarpaper and nails into the ~3/4" gaps between the roofing boards. EVERY surface in the house (which is being restored) was covered with black grit, nails and roofing debris: including every chair, table, cabinet, counter, sill, power tool, open boxes of nails and hardware, appliance, rolls of insulation, electrical wires, circuit breaker box, etc, etc and of course the floors and the loft. The outside of the house was also littered with debris and within minutes of arriving at the property after the departure of Quality Pluss Roofing, I stepped on a brand new roofing nail (shiny with bright green sealing "washer" ) just a few feet from the building, in clear view on the cement walk on the side of our building. Fortunately the I stepped on the side of the nail and it did not puncture my To make matters worse, the roofers hit the cantilevered window seat extension of the house (apparently with their truck). Instead of reporting this to us, they crudely sawed off the lower segment of the 1x6" vertical trim board which they they apparently damaged on the cantilevered arcitectural extension. They ripped off thie section of board which they sawed, tearing off the caulk, paint and primer from the adjacent clapboards. To "cover" the accident they put up a new piece of bare soft pine which roughly matched the original upper segment and hammered it in place with roofing nails - no caluk, no primer and no paint ---- and no phone call. Worse yet, the cantilevered architectural window seat "box" is now slightly slumped downward; and the roof with it. I called Jon Pedone 3 times to report the above problems and told him to fix the problems or compensate us with a refund. For each problem he had a disclaimer or excuse. Now that he was paid in full (including the $400 over estimate) the "helpfullnes" I experienced during "pre-contract" period disappeared. Reluctantly, the company sent over a worker who broom swept the ground floor - a crude 15 minute gesture. The areas under tables, chairs and corners, etc were not attended to and all of the surfaces mentioned above including the loft, tools sills, etc.etc went untouched. I estimate that it will take 2 of us about 8 hours to vacuum up the mess that they created! Mr. Pedone initially denied the damage to the house despite the obvious facts that the damage happened while his crew was there and that they used their roofing boards and nails to "cover" the damage. Again, reluctantly he agreed to at least stop over to look at the damage. That is the last I have heard from him. I really think that, at the very least, Quality Plus Roofers owes us an apology and refund. Meanwhile we have directed 3 of our neighbors away from Quality Plus Roofing.
